A teaching plan speech for Reading and Vocabulary 1 of M 3
By Litong
Hello, everyone. Today I’m very pleased to have an opportunity to talk about some of my teaching ideas. My topic is Oliver Asks for More taken from Module 3 in Book 7. It is made up of five parts.
Part 1 Analysis of the teaching material
Oliver Asks for More is an excerpt from Oliver Twist, one of the greatest novels of Charles Dickens. It plays an important part in this module, including much information and important vocabulary and language points.
Part 2 Analysis of the students
The students of Grade 2 have their own opinion and are active to get more knowledge and show themselves, but they have less information about Charles Dickens’s works.
So I designed the teaching goals and important and difficult points as follows:
*Teaching goals:
1. Knowledge aim: Master vocabulary and language points
Understand the text.
2. Ability aim: Develop reading skills step by step
Enrich reading strategies
Act out the scene
Write a short description of the main character, Oliver Twist
3. Emotional aim: Make the Ss enjoy Charles Dickens’s works and get more
about the poor in London during the 19th century.
Train the teamwork of the students by pair and group work.
*Teaching important points

Understand the text
*Teaching difficult points

Use your own words to retell the text
Part 3 the teaching methods
According to the teaching material, I adopted task-based teaching method and Audio-visual teaching method to carry out the following theories: Make the Ss the real masters in class while the teacher acts as director;
Part 4 the learning methods
