Money is what people use to buy things they need or want. A long time ago, people didn't use money. So how did they get the things they wanted? Well, there is a long and interesting story about this.
At first, they would exchange something they had for something they needed. For example, if the shoemaker needed some bread, he would give the baker shoes and the baker would give him bread. This was called “bartering”. Bartering worked fine for a while. But after the baker had too many shoes, the shoemaker still needed more bread. What could they do? The solution to this problem was money.
Money is basically an agreement among people. People agree that some metal or paper will be worth a certain amount(数量) of bread or a certain number of shoes. There were many earlier forms of money, such as cattle, salt, grain(谷物) and shells. But it was not easy to move them or store them.
So coins began to take the place of things. Coins had a set value and could be stored long. A coin says right on it how much it is worth. Different coins are worth different amounts. It became possible for people to trade in a standardized(标准的) way.
About three hundred years ago, paper money came into wider use. Paper money is cheaper to make than coins. It is also easier to carry around. Now people use paper money and coins in most countries. We call these kinds of money cash.
Cash has been popular for hundreds of years. But these days, things seem to have changed. Cashless payment(无现金支付) has come into our lives and changed our world.
China was the first country in the world to use paper money. Now, centuries later, analysts(分析家) believe that China may soon become the first cashless society. Cashless payment apps such as Alipay and WeChat Pay are becoming more common in China. The buyer just scans(扫描) the quick response code(二维码) of the seller, or the other way around. Then they can get the things they want. No physical money is needed in this process. Is tomorrow already here?
( )21.Which is the correct order of the development of money?
①Coins ②Bartering ③Paper money ④Cashless payment
⑤Cattle, grain and shells
A.②⑤①③④ B.⑤③②①④
C.②⑤①④③ D.⑤④③②①
( )22.What can we learn from the passage?
A.Coins are the earliest form of money in the world.
B.People cannot buy things by showing the quick response code.
C.Both coins and paper money are very popular around the world.
D.Paper money costs more to make than coins because it is worth more.
( )23.What does the author want to tell us in the last paragraph?
A.China is the first cashless country in the world.
B.People will start using cashless payment tomorrow.
C.People won't use any physical money in the future.
D.Cashless payment is the new stage of money development.

A team of scientists say that playing sounds underwater can get fish to return to areas with damaged coral reefs(受损的珊瑚礁). They found fish returned after hearing recordings of the sounds of healthy coral reefs.
The scientists placed underwater speakers in areas with dying corals in Australia's northern Great Barrier Reef. They played the sounds for about six weeks and studied the results. The team reported that many fish arrived in areas with the sounds of healthy coral reefs. The number of fish is two times more than before. The species(物种) also increases(增加) by 50 percent in the area.
The scientists noted the importance of having many different kinds of fish. Different kinds of fish perform many activities that support the ocean environment and sea life.
Steve is a scientist who leads the research. He said, “Damaged coral reefs have a higher chance to regrow if they have healthy fish populations. Healthy coral reefs are very noisy places. They have the sounds of many kinds of fish and other sea animals. Young fish listen for these sounds when they are looking for a place to live.”
Playing the underwater speakers is a useful way to get young fish to come back. The return of these fish is the first step towards improving coral reefs. Fish can clean the reefs and create space for corals to regrow.

Nowadays, many teens are badly addicted to using phones. It probably won't surprise you that teens are texting more than ever before.
Instead of sleeping, Kenny Alarcon, 16, often texts with his friends through the night. Frances Garcia, a high school senior, sends and receives about 1,000 texts each day. Both Frances and Kenny wake up several times during the night to text. Kenny even sleeps with his phone beneath his pillow.
Dr Elizabeth Dowdell, a professor at Villanova University in Pennsylvania, says that it's common for teens to be interrupted by texts while sleeping. “If they often lose sleep,” Dr Dowdell says, “teens may become angry, or depressed. A lack of sleep can lead to weight gain and even obesity because many people turn to junk food for quick energy when they are tired.”
Some experts are worried about how texting is affecting teenagers' lives. One concern(担心) is that students might not learn correct grammar and spelling if most of the writing they do is made up of text messages. Some people also worry that teens don't spend enough time talking with others face?to?face, which could be hurting their relationships with friends and family. Moreover, all that texting takes away hours that could be spent studying, exercising, taking up a hobby, or just relaxing.
According to Dr Dowdell, teens need to learn that they can and should turn off their phones sometimes. She had Kenny and Frances do an experiment. These were the rules: No phone for 48 hours. No computer or Internet either, unless it was for schoolwork.
After 48 phone?free hours, Kenny and Frances were interviewed. “Wow, it was pure torture(折磨),” Kenny joked. Kenny missed his friends, and he was sad at times. But he also felt relief from the constant texting. He spent time reading books and talking with his family, which he really enjoyed. Frances had an even happier result. “I loved it!” she said. “I was going to the gym and hanging out with friends and playing basketball. I had a wonderful experience.” Frances decided to continue the experiment for a while. “I think I'll be so much smarter and healthier,” she explained. “Everybody in the world should try it.”
( )27.If teens keep waking up to text while sleeping, they may ________.
A.get overweight B.become happier
C.disturb their parents D.feel more relaxed
( )28.What is Paragraph 4 mainly about?
A.Mistakes in teens' text writing.
B.Time wasted on meaningless texting.
C.Worries about how texting affects teens.
D.Encouragement to teens' talking face?to?face.

A.advise people what to do without phones
B.show teens can live well without phones
C.explain phones are important in teens' lives
D.introduce how they make good use of phones

Stephen Hawking was born in England in 1942. He is one of the most well?known scientists on space and time in the world. Hawking was researching how the universe began and how it ends. He is called the King of the Universe.
When he studied maths and science at Oxford University, he became seriously ill, which made him unable to speak or breathe without the help of machines. He couldn't move or feed himself and he was helped to dress, eat and wash by a nurse. However, he had a wheelchair with a special computer, with which he could communicate with others.

In 1965, he got a Doctor's Degree of philosophy(哲学). Because of his serious illness, it was difficult for him to draw diagrams or to write. So he started to think in pictures. It has been sold more than 5.5 million copies in 33 different languages. He was once invited to China to give lectures. His self?confidence and humorous conversations impressed us deeply.
