Can you remember what kind of sports interest you most during childhood Looking back to years ago, you are probably find excitement and great fun in just racing around the playground or skipping rope for hours. At that time, you were thinking entertainment rather than fitness.
However, nowadays with so much high-tech home equipment and so many underused gym memberships, people seem to have forgotten the simple joy of jumping rope. Actually, restoring it will give you a total-body exercise and keep you healthy.
Jumping rope has never gained really widespread acknowledged although it’s regarded as an excellent form of exercise. There are two essential reasons for that。
For one thing, while most people recognize jumping rope as an excellent form of cardiovascular (心血管的) exercise , they also believe that it is simply too difficult to continue jumping for the near 20 minutes that it takes to achieve a beneficial physical outcome.
For another, a lot of people consider it somewhat to be boring and overly repetitive instead of enjoyable or entertaining.
In fact, jumping rope can be great fun and exciting as long as you find a proper way to practice it. For instance, you can change your pattern every 10 or 20 jumps instead of doing the usual two-foot bounce over and over again. A single bounce, a double –bounce, a skip , a knee-up , side swings , as well as a variety of other easy-to-learn free-style rope-jumping .
Now scientists’ research is discovering that jumping rope also prepares the brain for learning and memory. It is an exercise allowing both brain hemispheres(半球)to perform in parallel (平行) to each other .
Come and join us in jumping rope—a life-long activity requiring little equipment, time and space, yet leading to a much healthier life.

It’s true that quite a few most respected scientific authorities have confirmed that the world is becoming hotter and hotter. There’s also strong evidence that humans are contributing to the warming. Countless recent reports have proved the same thing. For instance, a 2010 summary about the climate science by the Royal Society noted that: “The global warming over the last half-century has been caused mainly by human activity.”
You may not believe that humans could change the planet’s climate, but the basic science is well understood. Each year, billions of tons of greenhouse gases are released into the atmosphere because of human activity. As has been known for years, these gases hold heat that would otherwise escape to space, wrapping the planet in an invisible(看不见的) blanket.
Of course, the earth’s climate has always been changing due to “natural” factors such as volcanic eruption(熔化) or changes in solar, or cycles concerning the Earth’s going around the sun. According to the scientific research, however, the warming observed by now matches the pattern of warming we would expect from a build-up of greenhouse gas in the atmosphere – not the warming we would expect from other possible causes.
Even if scientists did discover another reasonable explanation for the warming recorded so far, that would give birth to a difficult question. As Robert Henson puts it: “If some newly discovered factor is to blame for the climate change, then why aren’t carbon dioxide and the other greenhouse gases producing the warming that basic physics tells us they should be ”
The only way to prove with 100% certainty that humans are responsible for global warming would be to run an experiment with two identical Earths – one with human influence and one without. That obviously isn’t possible, and so most scientists are careful not to state human influence as an absolute certainty.
72. In most scientists’ opinion, the global warming is mainly caused by ________.
A. solar activity
B. volcanic activity
C. natural factors
D. human factors
73. The text is developed by ________.
A. giving typical examples
B. following the order of space
C. analyzing a theory and arguing it
D. comparing and finding differences
74. The underline word “identical” in the last paragraph probably means ________.
A. totally different
B. exactly the same
C. extremely important
D. partly independent

A. Are All the Scientists Really Scientific

As we know, many companies set high standards and requirements for job seekers. A master’s degree is often a must when they advertise for new employees, which means fresh college graduates cannot find a good job. As a result, in order to broaden horizons and learn more professional skills, more and more young people choose to stay on campus for further education. They believe taking a post-graduate course is a good way to enrich their knowledge and make themselves better equipped for a promising future. In other words, they hope to look for a better-paid job in a competitive society with a higher degree.

Earthquakes may happen anywhere on the earth. When some plates of the earth moves suddenly, an earthquake happens. Many earthquakes begin under the sea. They often happen near the mountains too. During an earthquake, the shaking makes rocks rise suddenly and even crack open. Houses fall, people are killed or hurt, and sometimes the whole villages or cities are destroyed.
In the future, scientists will be able to tell when and where an earthquake will be before they happen.
