B
“Anyone
who
offends(冒犯)China
will
be
killed
no
matter
how
far
the
target
is.”
That
is
the
tagline
for
Wolf
Warriors
2,
the
Chinese
box
office
hit.
It
sees
a
soldier
entering
into
an
African
war-zone
and
saving
hundreds
of
lives
from
Western
bad
guys.
It’s
basically
the
plot
of
your
typical
Hollywood
action
movie,
but
this
time
it’s
a
Chinese
man
upholding
justice
and
keeping
the
world
safe.
Following
in
the
footsteps
of
Jackie
Chan
and
Jet
Li,
martial
arts
expert
Wu
Jing
is
among
a
new
generation
of
directors
who
were
initially
Chinese
action
stars.
His
first
Wolf
Warrior
film
came
out
in
2014,
but
it
didn’t
catch
much
attention.
Mainstream
movies,
especially
those
promoting
patriotism(爱国主义),
usually
don’t
do
very
well
in
China.
Wolf
Warrior
2,
however,
has
become
a
phenomenon.
The
massive
response
in
China
also
made
the
film
top
the
global
box
office
worldwide
last
weekend,
beating
Hollywood
blockbuster
Dunkirk.
Many
moviegoers
said
online
that
they
were
touched
by
the
patriotic
plot.
“This
movie
is
the
best
Chinese
action
movie,”
one
social
media
user
wrote.
“Shockingly
good
—
hot
blood
and
tough
guys.
I
cried
after
watching
it,”
said
another.
One
reason
for
the
enthusiastic
response
compared
to
the
first
Wolf
Warrior
film
is
its
improved
action
scenes.
Many
in
China
have
praised
the
film
for
its
fighting
scenes
and
special
effects,
saying
they
are
of
“Hollywood
quality”.
The
movie,
which
is
entirely
privately
funded,
has
also
been
lauded
for
its
attention
to
details
and
features
of
close
replicas(复制品)of
many
of
the
latest
weapons
used
by
the
Chinese
army.
Timing
has
also
contributed
to
its
success,
with
the
Chinese
nation
in
the
times
of
a
new
wave
of
patriotism.
The
film
first
came
out
just
ahead
of
the
90th
anniversary
of
the
founding
of
the
Chinese
army,
a
hugely
symbolic
event
for
the
country.
Over
the
weekend,
the
People’s
Liberation
Army
(PLA)
held
a
grand
military
parade,
which
presented
the
latest
weapons
of
China.
In
a
serious
speech,
which
in
parts
was
not
different
from
lines
from
the
film,
President
Xi
Jinping
promised
to
fight
anyone
who
tried
to
tear
China
apart.
24.The

is
meant
to
________.
A.introduce
a
recent
action
movie
B.explain
why
Wu
Jing
is
a
successful
director
C.compare
Wolf
Warriors
2
with
Hollywood
movies
D.claim
that
China
is
a
super
power
in
terms
of
weapons
production
25.The
reason
why
Wolf
Warriors
2
becomes
a
box
office
hit
is
that
________.
A.it
doesn’t
promote
patriotism
B.its
combat
scenes
are
of
higher
quality
C.the
weapons
in
the
movie
are
the
most
advanced
D.Wu
Jing
is
becoming
better
at
directing
after
failing
his
first
movie
26.According
to
the
passage,
which
of
the
following
is
true?
A.Dunkirk
has
attracted
more
audiences
compared
to
Wolf
Warriors
2.
B.Social
media
users
think
highly
of
Wu
Jing’s
acting
skills.
C.In
the
past,
movies
about
patriotism
often
appeal
to
the
public.
D.Jackie
Chan,
Jet
Li
and
Wu
Jing
were
actors
at
first.
27.The
word
“lauded”
in
paragraph
4
means
________.
A.encouraged
B.praised
C.criticized
D.awarded
C
A
new
batch
of
young
women—members
of
the
so-called
Millennial
(千禧的)
generation—has
been
entering
the
workforce
for
the
past
decade.
At
the
starting
line
of
their
careers,
they
are
better
educated
than
their
mothers
and
grandmothers
had
been—or
than
their
young
male
counterparts
are
now.
But
when
they
look
ahead,
they
see
roadblocks
to
their
success.
They
believe
that
women
are
paid
less
than
men
for
doing
the
same
job.
They
think
it’s
easier
for
men
to
get
top
executive
jobs
than
it
is
for
them.
And
they
assume
that
if
and
when
they
have
children,
it
will
be
even
harder
for
them
to
advance
in
their
careers.
While
the
public
sees
greater
workplace
equality
between
men
and
women
now
than
it
did
20-30
years
ago,
most
believe
more
change
is
needed.
Among
Millennial
women,
75%
say
this
country
needs
to
continue
making
changes
to
achieve
gender
equality
in
the
workplace,
compared
with
57%
of
Millennial
men.
Even
so,
relatively
few
young
women
(15%)
say
they
have
been
discriminated
against
at
work
because
of
their
gender.
As
Millennial
women
come
of
age,
they
share
many
of
the
same
views
and
values
about
work
as
their
male
counterparts.
They
want
jobs
that
provide
security
and
flexibility,
and
they
place
relatively
little
importance
on
high
pay.
At
the
same
time,
however,
young
working
women
are
less
likely
than
men
to
aim
at
top
management
jobs:
34%
say
they’re
not
interested
in
becoming
a
boss
or
top
manager;
only
24%
of
young
men
say
the
same.
The
gender
gap
on
this
question
is
even
wider
among
working
adults
in
their
30s
and
40s,
when
many
women
face
the
trade-offs
that
go
with
work
and
motherhood.
These
findings
are
based
on
a
new
Pew
Research
Center
survey
of
2,002
adults,
including
810
Millennials,
conducted
Oct.
7-27,
2019.
The
survey
finds
that,
in
spite
of
the
dramatic
gains
women
have
made
in
educational
attainment
and
labor
force
participation
in
recent
decades,
young
women
view
this
as
a
man’s
world—just
as
middle-aged
and
older
women
do.
28.
What
do
we
learn
from
the
first
paragraph
about
Millennial
women
starting
their
careers?
A.
They
can
get
ahead
only
by
striving
harder.
B.
They
expect
to
succeed
just
like
Millennial
men.
C.
They
are
generally
quite
optimistic
about
their
future.
D.
They
are
better
educated
than
males
counterparts.
29.
How
do
most
Millennial
women
feel
about
their
treatment
in
the
workplace?
A.
They
are
the
target
of
discrimination.
B.
They
find
it
satisfactory
on
the
whole.
C.
They
think
it
needs
further
improving.
D.
They
find
their
complaints
ignored.
30.
What
do
Millennial
women
value
most
when
coming
of
age?
A.
A
sense
of
accomplishment.
B.
Job
stability
and
flexibility.
C.
Rewards
and
promotions.
D.
Joy
derived
from
work.
31.
What
are
women
in
their
30s
and
40s
concerned
about?
A.
The
welfare
of
their
children.
B.
The
narrowing
of
the
gender
gap.
C.
The
fulfillment
of
their
dreams
in
life.
D.
The
balance
between
work
and
family.
D
In
the
mid-1980s,
a
study
compared
mtDNA
from
people
around
the
world.
It
found
that
people
of
African
descent
(后裔)
had
twice
as
many
genetic
differences
from
each
other
than
as
did
others.
Because
mutations
(基因突变)
seem
to
occur
at
a
steady
rate
over
time,
scientists
were
able
to
conclude
that
modern
humans
must
have
lived
in
Africa
at
least
twice
as
long
as
anywhere
else.
They
now
calculate
that
all
living
humans
descend
from
a
single
woman
who
lived
roughly
150,000
years
ago
in
Africa,
“Eve”.
If
geneticists
are
right,
all
of
humanity
is
linked
to
Eve
through
an
unbroken
chain
of
mothers.
This
Eve
was
soon
joined
by
“Y-Chromosome
(染色体)
Adam”,
the
genetic
father
of
us
all,
also
from
Africa.
DNA
studies
have
confirmed
that
all
the
people
on
Earth,
with
all
their
shapes
and
colors,
can
trace
their
ancestry
to
ancient
Africans.
What
seems
certain
is
that
at
a
remarkably
recent
date—probably
between
50,000
and
70,000
years
ago—one
small
group
of
people,
the
ancestors
of
modern
humans
outside
of
Africa,
left
Africa
for
western
Asia,
either
by
migrating
around
the
northern
end
of
the
Red
Sea
or
across
its
narrow
southern
opening.
Once
in
Asia,
genetic
evidence
suggests,
the
population
split.
One
group
stopped
temporarily
in
the
Middle
East,
while
the
other
commenced
a
journey
which
would
last
tens
of
thousands
of
years.
Moving
a
little
further
with
each
new
generation,
they
followed
the
coast
around
the
Arabian
Peninsula,
India,
and
Southeast
Asia,
all
the
way
to
Australia.
''The
movement
was
probably
unnoticeable,''
says
Spencer
Wells.
''It
was
less
of
a
journey
and
probably
more
like
walking
a
little
farther
down
the
beach
to
get
away
from
the
crowd.''
Although
archaeological
evidence
of
this
13,000-kilometer
(8,000-mile)
migration
from
Africa
to
Australia
has
almost
completely
disappeared,
genetic
traces
of
the
group
that
made
the
trip
do
exist.
They
have
been
found
in
the
DNA
of
native
peoples
in
the
Andaman
Islands
near
Myanmar,
in
Malaysia,
and
in
Papua
New
Guinea,
and
in
the
DNA
of
nearly
all
Australian
aborigines
(土著).
Modern
discoveries
of
45,000-year-old
bodies
in
Australia,
buried
at
a
site
called
Lake
Mungo,
provide
some
physical
evidence
for
the
theories
as
well.
People
in
the
rest
of
Asia
and
Europe
share
different
but
equally
ancient
mtDNA
and
mutations.
The
mutations
which
they
possess
show
that
most
are
descendants
of
the
group
that
stayed
in
the
Middle
East
for
thousands
of
years
before
moving
on.
Perhaps
about
40,000
years
ago,
modern
humans
first
advanced
into
Europe.
What
can
be
inferred
from
the
first
paragraph?
A.
Mutations
occasionally
take
place
over
time
B.
Modern
humans
probably
have
only
one
ancestor.
C.
Modern
humans
must
have
lived
in
Africa
for
a
shorter
time
than
anywhere
else.
D.
Scientists
confirm
all
of
humanity
is
linked
to
Eve
with
physical
evidence
.
33.
What
happened
to
the
first
group
of
humans
that
moved
from
Africa
into
Asia?
A.Most
of
the
migrants
turned
back
into
Africa.
B.They
separated
into
two
groups.
C.Most
of
the
migrants
moved
directly
into
Europe.
D.They
stayed
in
the
Middle
East
for
tens
of
thousands
of
years.
34.
Which
of
the
following
is
cited
as
evidence
for
the
great
migration
to
Australia?
A.Discovery
of
human
remains
in
Australia
B.DNA
of
people
in
Southeast
Africa
C.DNA
of
immigrants
to

D.Discoveries
from

“My

Paulette
Mouton,

daughter.“Because
of
her
reputation,
you
know
,
there'

people
in
and

all
day,
everybody'
s
family
comes

They

”(
One

Americans
could
go
hungry
in
2020
as
pandemic
persists.
)
But
Mayfield
hasn't
been
to
the
grocery
store
since
March.
And
there
is
little
about
Thanksgiving
2020
that'
s
usual.
Hundreds
of
thousands
of
American
families
have
re-imagined
the
holiday
with
virtual
celebrations,
canceled
or
delayed
travel
plans,
or
for
small
gatherings
with
people
in
their
households
in
response
to
COVID-19,
the
deadly
virus
that
has
killed
more
than
250
,000
in
the
U.
S.
and
spoiled
life
around
the
world.
This
year,
Mayfield
'
s
family
members
are
lamenting(
悲叹)
the
absence
of
a
big
gathering.
They've
explained
to
their
young
children
and
grandchildren
why
this
year
'
s
Thanksgiving
is
different.
Mayfield’s
youngest
daughter,
Michelle
Sanders,
says
it'
s
tough
helping
her
grandchildren
understand
why
they
can't
see
some
of
their
other
family
members.
“It's
really
hard,
trying
to
explain
to
them,
”Sanders
said.“When
you'
re
talking
to
them
and
they
want
to
come
over,
you
have
to
tell
them
no.
They
really
don't
know
how
to
be
careful.
”
Sanders
added,
“And,
they
don't
understand
that,
being
three,
four,
and
six,
you
know
they
don't
really
understand
that.
So,
it's
...
it's
really,
really
hard,
and
heartbreaking.”

inside
Biosphere(生物圈)

A
recent
study
of
tropical

planted
there
in
the
early
1990s
reported
a
surprising
result:
They
have
withstood
temperatures
higher
than
any
likely
to
be
experienced
by
tropical
forests
this
century.
The
study
adds
to
a
growing
number
of
findings
that
are
giving
forest

something
that's
been
in
short
supply
lately:
hope.

The
last
few

have
seen
a
flood
of
arming
reports
about
forests
and
climate

on
them.
Scientists
have
announced
that
the
Amazon

nearing
a
tipping
point;
tropical

globally
are
already
close
to
the
hottest
temperatures
they
can

and
climate
change
is
killing
off
old

One
thing
is
certainly
true:
Our
fossil

are
creating
a
climate
that
humans
have
never
seen
and
trees
haven'

in
a
very

Have
you
ever
heard
of
these
illnesses?
If
so,
you
.
likely
know
what
they
all
have
in
common.
These
are
a
few
of
the
diseases
spread
by
one
of
the
greatest
pests
known
to
humankind
-
-
the
mosquito.
Much
of
the
time,
mosquito
bites
are
just
itchy.
Nothing
ruins
a
backyard
barbecue
faster
than
a
mass
of
these
bloodsucking
insects.
However,
some
mosquitoes
carry
viruses
that
cause
deadly
illnesses.
In
fact,
some
experts
say
mosquitoes
are
a
bigger
threat
to
human
life
than
any
other
organism.
Over
the
centuries,mosquitoes
are
thought
to
have
caused
the
deaths
of
52
billion
people.
That’s
half
the
people
who
have
ever
lived
on
Earth!
Even
today,
illnesses
spread
by
mosquitoes
kill
more
people
each
year
than
war
does.
It
should
be
no
surprise
that
many
people
would
like
to
get
rid
of
mosquitoes.
What
if
we
could
wipe
out
the
entire
mosquito
population?
No
more
malaria.
No
more
Zika.
No
more
itchy
bumps
after
a
summer
day
spent
outdoors.
Doesn't
that
sound
great?
Not
so
fast.
Sure,
some
species
of
mosquitoes
harm
humans.
But
others
don't
pose
any
threat
at
all!
In
fact,
some
of
these
mosquitoes
play
important
parts
in
their
ecosystems.
Let'
s
look
at
a
few
ways.
Many
of
our
Wonder
Friends
already
know
that
bees
play
an
important
part
in
pollination(授粉).
It
turns
out,
mosquitoes
do,
too!
Most
mosquitoes
actually
drink
nectar(
花蜜)
instead
of
blood.
When
they
do
so,
they
help
pollinate
the
plants
they
feed
on.
It's
also
important
to
remember
that
even
mosquitoes
are
part
of
an
ecosystem.
Without
them,
the
food
chain
would
be
disturbed.
Adult
mosquitoes
are
a
food
source
for
bats,
birds,
spiders,
and
small
mammals.
Without
them,
these
animals
would
need
to
find
something
else
to
eat.
Some
experts
even
think
mosquitoes
could
be
used
to
help
humans.
32.
What
do
Zika
virus,
Malaria,
West
Nile
virus,
and
Dengue
fever
have
in
common?
A.
They
are
all
pests
from
the
wild
forest.
B.
They
can
not
be
cured
by
human
beings.
C.
They
can
all
be
spread
by
mosquitoes.
D.
They
are
all
caused
by
bacteria.
33.
What
does
the
underlined
phrase
in
the
fourth
paragraph
mean?
A.
Kill
something
completely.
B.
Bring
up
in
large
numbers.
C.
Control
something
completely.
D.
Rely
on
something
completely.
34.
What
is
the

s
attitude
towards
mosquitoes?
A.
Positive.
B.
Negative.
C.
Critical.
D.
Objective.
35.

may
the
author
continue
to
write
about
in
the
following?
A.
How
mosquitoes
are
harmful
to
human
beings.
B.
How
mosquitoes
are
helpful
to
human
beings.
C.
How
mosquitoes
cause
various
illness

Dear
Highlights,
My
sister
is
always
in
a
bad
mood,
which
gets
me
in
a
bad
mood.
What
should
I
do?
Tessa,
Virginia
It
can
be
hard
to
be
around
someone
who
is
in
a
bad
mood.
Since
you
can’t
change
another
person’s
mood,
try
to
focus
on
what
you
can
control:
your
own
mood
and
reaction.
You
might
find
it
easier
to
stay
in
a
good
mood
if
you
leave
your
sister
alone
when
she
feels
grumpy
(脾气暴躁的).
The
next
time
she
is
in
a
bad
mood,
go
to
a
quiet
place
in
your
house.
Read,
exercise,
draw,
listen
to
music
—
do
something
that
makes
you
feel
happy.
Your
parents

have
some
good
suggestions
for
you,
too.
Dear
Highlights,
I

How
can
I
do
better?
Jarom,

To
be
good
at
anything,
determination
and
practice
are
important.
Listen
closely
to
your
coach,
watch
other
players,
then
practice,
practice,
practice!
Professional

practice
their
sports
each

knowing
that
if
they
start

they
won’t
keep
or
develop
their
skills.
In
addition
to
practicing
with
teammates,
you
can
work
on
drills
on
your
own.
Learning
more
about
the
sport
may
help
too.
Your
coach
can
likely
direct
you
to
some
good
resources
on
skills
development.
Dear
Highlights,
I
was
moved
up
a
grade
a

years
ago.
Now,
almost
everyone
in
my
previous

asks
me
why.
It
wouldn’t
be

problem,
except
some
boys
ask
over
and
over
just
to
be
annoying.
What
do
I
do?
Allison
(by

If
you’re
sure
that
they
are
trying
to
be
annoying,
you
might
respond
with
something
humorous.
For
ex-ample,
you
could
say
something
like
“They
told
me
that
the
lunch
lines
would
be
shorter.”
Use
the
situation
to
turn
annoying
questions
into
something
to
laugh
about.

The
secret
of
happiness
could
be
as
simple
as
remembering
the
good
times
and
forgetting
the
regrets.
People
who
look
at
the
past
through
rose-colored
glasses
are
happier
than
those
who
focus
on
negative
past
experiences
and
regrets,
according
to
a
new
study
published
in
the
journal
Personality
and
Individual
Differences.
The
study
helps
explain
why
personality
has
such
a
strong
influence
on
a
person’s
happiness
and
the
findings
suggest
that
people
with
certain
personality
traits
(特征)
are
happier
than
others
because
of
the
way
they
think
about
their
past,
present
and
future.
“We
found
that
highly
extraverted(外向型的)
people
are
happier
with
their
lives
because
they
tend
to
hold
a
positive
view
of
the
past
and
are
less
likely
to
have
negative
thoughts
and
regrets.
On
the
contrary,
neurotic
(神经质的)
people
are
likely
to
have
the
exact
opposite
view
of
the
past
and
are
less
happy
as
a
result,”
said
Ryan
Howell,
assistant
professor
of
psychology
at
San
Francisco
State
University.
“This
is
good
news
because
although
it
may
be
difficult
to
change
your
personality,
you
may
be
able
to
change
your
view
of
time
and
improve
your
happiness,”
Howell
said.
The
authors
suggest
that
enjoying
happy
memories
or
reframing
(重新构筑)
painful
past
experiences
in
a
positive
light
could
be
effective
ways
for
individuals
to
increase
their
life
satisfaction.
“Personality
traits
influence
how
people
look
at
the
past,
present
and
future
and
it
is
these
different
perspectives
on
time
that
drive
a
person’s
happiness,”
Howell
said.

underlined
sentence
in
Paragraph

C.
have

According
to
Howell,
if
you

A.
change
your

your
painful
past
experiences

The
US

seek
to
expand
its
own
oil
production
in
an
attempt
to
reduce
dependence
on
imported
oil
and
bring

fuel
prices,
President
Obama
says.
New
contracts
for
exploration
will
be
signed
in
non-protected
areas
of
Alaska
and
in
the
Gulf
of
Mexico.
In
his
weekly
speech,
the
President
insisted
the
US
could
reduce
its
need
for
imported
oil
and
improve
safety.
Using
his
speech
to
tell
Americans
that
he
understood
their
concerns
about
rising
prices,
President
Obama
focused
particularly
on
the
price
of
fuel,
which
has
risen
in
recent
months.
US
consumers
have
historically
enjoyed
cheap
fuel,
but
have
seen
prices
rise
in
recent
months
even
though
US
oil
production
in
2010
reached
its
highest
level
for
seven
years.
Although
the
oil
spill
in
the
Gulf
of
Mexico
in
2010
was
serious,
Mr
Obama
said
the
Gulf
remained
a
key
part
of
the
country’s
future
energy
supply.
The
President’s
proposals
(议案)
come
after
Republicans
(共和党人)
introduced
a
series
of
proposals
that
would
expand
and
speed
up
oil
and
gas
production.
The
White
House
has
criticized
the
Republican
proposals
for
safety
reasons,
but
Mr
Obama
was
clear
in
his
speech
that
he
felt
safety
and
environmental
standards
could
be
maintained
even
though
production
might
rise.
“I
believe
that
we
should
continue
to
expand
oil
production
in
America
—
even
as
we
increase
safety
and
environmental
standards,”
he
said.
“As
a
nation,
we
should
be
investing
in
the
clean,
renewable
sources
of
energy
that
are
the
solution
to
high
gas
prices.”
Mr
Obama
has
previously
called
for
a
step-change
in
energy
policy,
saying
the
US
must
move
towards
getting
80%
of
its
electricity
from
clean
energy
sources
by
2035.
32.
Which
of
the
following
is
NOT
included
in
Mr
Obama’s
speech?
A.
The
dependence

34.
What
can
we
learn
from
the
text?
A.
The
US
has
got
most
of
its
electricity
from
clean
energy.
B.
US
oil
production
is
too
small
to
keep
the

C.
The
US

D.
The
Gulf
is
still

The
new
garbage
sorting
regulation
has
taken
effect
in
Shanghai
starting
July
1.
Many
citizens
are
still
confused
about
the
classification
of
the
four
different
types
of
trash.
Thankfully,
authorities
have
released
an
official
guideline
to
clarify
the
new
rules.
The
guideline,
published
by
the
Shanghai
Greenery
and
Public
Sanitation
Bureau,
provides
a
rather
clear
definition
on
the
four
kinds
of
waste:
recyclable
waste,
hazardous
(有害的)
waste,
household
food
waste
and
residual
(剩余的)
waste.
Hazardous
waste,
as
the
name
suggests,
includes
assorted
poisonous
materials
like
used
batteries,
light
bulbs,
out-of-date
medicines,
paint
and
pesticides.
Household
food
waste,
which
is
translated
to
“wet
trash”
in
Chinese,refers
to
food
leftovers,
rotten
food,
pet
food,
fruit
peels,
remains
of
TCM
herbs
(中药)
and
flowers.
Paper,
plastic,
glass,
metal
and
textiles
(纺织品)
are
counted
as
recyclable
waste.
The
definition
of
residual
waste
is
a
little
confusing.
Anything
that
is
not
listed
above
belongs
in
this
category.
As
specific
as
the
new
guideline
is,
residents
still
have
a
hard
time
sorting
trash
correctly
and
are
finding
it
challenging
to
memorize
them
all.
For
instance,
both
plastic
bottles
and
bubble
tea
or
coffee
cups
are
plastic
materials.
However,
the
former
falls
to
the
category
of
recyclable
waste
and
the
latter
belongs
to
residual
waste.
To
save
the
hassle,
some
netizens
have
come
up
with
their
own
ways
to
sort
trash.
“We
should
do
this
from
a
pig’s
angle,”
commented
one
netizen.
“Those
edible
(可食用的)
for
pigs
are
household
food
waste.
Those
even
pigs
don’t
want
to
eat
are
residual
waste.
If
a
pig
consumes
something
and
dies
of
it,
then
something
must
be
hazardous
waste.
Those
which
can
be
sold
and
the
money
we
gain
can
be
used
to
purchase
pigs
are
recyclable
waste.”
The
new
regulation
has
gone
into
effect
on
July
1.
Those
who
do
not
sort
their
trash
properly
will
be
fined
RMB200.

What
do
the

thrown-away
sweaters

to?
A.
Residual
waste.
B.
Hazardous
waste.

waste.

Household
food
waste.
29.
What
does
“wet
trash”
have
in
common?
A.
They
are
completely
wet.
B.
They
all
come
from
plants.
C.
They
can
give
off
bad
smell.
D.
They
can

main
idea
of

As
they
reach
school
age,
about
90
percent
of
children
will
have
experienced
a
condition
in
which
fluid
(液体)
fills
the
middle
ear,
muffling
(使模糊)
sound
and
sometimes
causing
infection.
The
fluid
usually
clears
on
its
own,
but
if
not,
it
can
lead
to
a
painful
ear
infection
called
acute
otitis
(中耳炎)
media.
In
some
cases
the
fluid
can
persist
for
more
than
a
year,
causing
hearing
loss
during
this
period,
and
slowing
down
their
development
of
language
and
social
skills.
Diagnosis
usually
requires
a
visit
to
a
specialist—but
researchers
have
now
developed
an
app
that
detects
this
fluid
just
as
accurately,
with
only
a
smartphone
and
a
paper
funnel
(漏斗).
Doctors
typically
detect
the
problem
by
peering
into
the
ear
for
a
visual
assessment.
Yet,
this
method
has
only
a
50
percent
accuracy
rate.
“Right
now,
if
you
bring
your
child
to
a
pediatrician,
or
to
any
urgent
care
family
doctor,
the
way
they
look
at
whether
or
not
there’s
fluid
in
the
middle
ear
is
by
looking
at
the
eardrum,”
says
Sharat
Raju,
a
surgeon
in
the
department
of
head
and
neck
surgery
at
the
University
of
Washington.
For
a
cheaper
and
more
accessible
alternative,
researchers
at
the
University
of
Washington
turned
to
smartphones.
First
the
user
follows
a
template
to
cut
and
tape
a
piece
of
paper
into
a
funnel,
which
can
be
placed
between
a
smartphone
and
the
patient’s
ear.
Next
the
app
plays
a
chirping
sound
through
the
phone’s
speaker;
the
sound
waves
bounce
off
the
eardrum
and
hit
the
phone’s
microphone,
where
they
register
and
are
analyzed
by
the
app.
An
eardrum
with
fluid
behind
it
will
vibrate
(振动)
differently
than
if
the
middle
ear
is
full
of
air,
as
it
normally
is.
To
develop
the
app,
the
researchers
first
played
chirps
for
patients
with
and
without
fluid
in
their
ears.
They
recorded
the
echoes
(回音),
which
indicate
the
eardrum’s
mobility.
Then
they
used
a
machine
learning
model
to
classify
the
returning
sound
waves,
determining
which
audio
characteristics
indicated
a
normal
ear
and
which
suggested
the
presence
of
fluid.
Once
they
tested
the
app
on
98
children,
ranging
from
18
months
to
17
years
old,
at
Seattle
Children’s
Hospital.
It
correctly
detected
fluid
in
85
percent
of
cases,
and
correctly
identified
fluid-free
ears
in
82
percent.
The
researchers
are
currently
trying
to
get
FDA
approval
for
the
app,
and
have
founded
a
company
to
commercialize
it.
They
hope
to
make
it
available
by
the
end
of
the
year,
to
help
parents
track
children’s
ear
health
at
home.
32.
What
do
we
know
about
the
fluid
from
the
first
paragraph?
A.
It
is
mostly
part
of
children’s

B.
It
is
unavoidable
for
any
child.
C.
It
is
a
permanent

D.
It
is
beyond
any
medical
means.
33.
What
does
the
underlined
word
“pediatrician”
refer
to
in
Paragraph
3?
A.
A
hospital.
B.
A
specialist.
C.
A
relative.
D.
An
app.
34.
What
is
the
fourth
paragraph
mainly
about?
A.
The
application
of
the
app.
B.
The
causes
of
the
kid’s
ear
problem.
C.
The
purpose
of
developing
the
app.
D.
The
experiment
of
the
smartphone.
35.
What
do
the
researchers
expect
of
the
app?
A.
It
will
upgrade
the
medical
technology.
B.
It
will
hit
the
market
in
the
near
future.
C.
It
will

Hanfu,
meaning
“Han
clothing”,
is
based
on
the
idea
of
costumes
worn
in
the
past
times
by
China’s
Han
ethnic
group.
Some
of
the
most
popular
styles
are
from
the
Ming,
Song
and
Tang
dynasties.?About
three-quarters
of
hanfu
customers
are
between
16
and
24
years
old.
Members
of
this
generation
often
see
it
as
a
way
to
rediscover
and
engage
with
their
country’s
traditional
culture.
It
has
seen
a
reappearance
in
recent
years,
despite
some
public
resistance
in
the
beginning.
It’s
pretty
exciting
to
see
young
Chinese
people
building
up
their
self-confidence
and
developing
their
individuality
to
show
the
world
what
they
love.
For
more
Chinese,
this
dress
code
might
become
a
good
starting
point
to
further
explore
the
beauty
of
the
country’s
traditions.
Yang
Na
is
one
of
those
hanfu
enthusiasts
who
have
been
dedicated
to
the
revival
(复兴)
of
the
costume
for
over
a
decade.
As
a
media
professional,
she
wears
hanfu,
talks
about
it
and
has
even
written
a
book
about
it,
titled
“Hanfu
Returns”.
Hanfu
enthusiasts
refer
to
themselves
online
as?tongpao,
which
means
wearing
the
same
type
of
gown
(长袍)
as
a
symbol
of
comradeship.
There
were
more
than
2
million
hanfu
enthusiasts
in
China
in
2018,
according
to
a
survey
by
iMedia
Research,
a
year-on-year
rise
of
nearly
73
percent.
The
total
value
of
the
hanfu
industry
was
more
than
1
billion
yuan.
After
16
years
of
development
from
the
so-called
“fantastical
dress”
to
daily
wear,?hanfu
has
been
through
quite
the
change
in
status.
Whatever
the
arguments
behind
the
new
trend,
some
traditional
beauty
on
modern
streets
will
indeed
add
a
bit
of
vitality
and
diversity
to
urban
life.?

I’d
gone
snowboarding
in
France
with
my
little
brother,
and
we
made
up
for
what
we
lacked
in
skill
with
enthusiasm.
That
day,
fresh
snow
had
been
falling,
and
we
were
in
high
spirits.
I
let
my
brother
disappear
into
the
trees
ahead,
figuring
I
would
soon
catch
up.
I
began
to
pick
up
speed
when
I
was
suddenly
thrown
off
balance.
Just
as
I
was
regaining
control,
I
ran
into
the
trunk
of
a
large
tree.
It
was
like
hitting
a
solid
wall.
The
pain
was
instant.
I
knew
immediately
that
my
back
was
broken
and
quickly
realized
the
situation
could
get
very
serious.
Nobody
would
be
coming
past.
There
was
no
phone
signal.
It
was
snowing
and
cold.
If
I
waited,
I
would
probably
freeze
to
death
before
the
rescue.
I
tried
to
stand
but
fell
down
and
almost
blacked
out
with
pain.
I
managed
to
get
the
board
off
from
my
feet
and
moved
it
under
my
stomach
so
I
was
lying
on
it.
It
took
about
two
hours
before
a
skier
found
me
and
I
got
help.
The
mountain
rescue
team
came,
with
my
brother
arriving
shortly
afterwards.
I
couldn’t
feel
my
hands
or
my
toes
from
the
cold,
but
I
knew
I
was
safe.
A
helicopter
took
me
to
hospital.
There,
I
had
an
operation.
I
felt
very
painful,
but
it
wasn’t
as
bad
as
seeing
the
pain
and
worry
I
put
my
family
through.
The
recovery
road
was
tough,
but
I
was
lucky.
Gradually,
I
was
able
to
walk,
then
swim,
then
cycle
and
then
run.
I
haven’t
been
back
to
snowboarding
yet,
but
it
will
happen
someday.
I
will,
however,
be
sticking
to
the
paths
more
carefully
and
safely.

Multiple
measures
have
been
taken
to
cut
down
on
food
waste,
but
one
young
man
is
making
a
big
difference
with
technology.
Liu
Jichen,
23,
a
student
from
Tsinghua
University,
has
developed
a
WeChat
mini-program
called
“Clear
Your
Plate”.
After
a
meal,
users
can
open
the
mini-program
and
take
a
picture
of
their
empty
plates.
Once
the
image
is
recognized
by
the
AI,
students
can
collect
points
and
use
them
to
buy
gifts
or
purchase
charity
meals
for
children
in
poor
rural
areas.
Liu
and
his
team,
together
with
other
organizations,
launched
the
“Clear
Your
Plate”
campaign
in
November
for
the
third
year.
It
has
swept
over
1,017
universities
across
the
country.
Furthermore,
the
one-month
campaign
attracted
almost
1.6
million
participants
and
collectively
reduced
food
waste
by
862
tons
and
carbon
emissions
by
3,337
tons,
China
Youth
Daily
reported.
“Technological
innovation
is
a
good
way
to
reduce
food
waste,”
Liu
thought.
He
organized
a
team
to
work
on
the
project
at
the
end
of
2017.
To
solve
the
AI’s
problem
of
identifying
photos
of
empty
plates,
the
team
spent
half
a
year
collecting
over
100,000
samples
in
canteens
and
restaurants.
In
2018,
the
mini-program
was
officially
put
into
operation
on
Oct
16,
World
Food
Day.
They
then
launched
a
campaign
later
that
year.
“There
were
so
many
unknowns
in
research
and
development.
For
our
team
members,
the
biggest
challenge
was
whether
we
were
confident
enough
to
complete
it,”
Liu
said.
They
not
only
achieved
their
goal,
but
now,
the
mini-program
has
more
than
5
million
registered
users.
“We
hope
our
efforts
can
start
a
new
trend
among
the
younger
generation
by
encouraging
them
to
cherish
their
food
and
contribute
Chinese
wisdom
and
solutions
to
global
food
security
challenges,”
he
added.
