As
early
as
1894,
the
newly
formed
International
Olympic
Committee
(IOC)
considered
ice
skating
as
a
possibility
for
the
first
modern
Olympic
Games
which
would
be
held
in
1896.
In
1911,
a
member
of
the
IOC
suggested
that
winter
sports
should
be
staged
as
part
of
the
1912
Olympics
in
Stockholm.Some
opposed
the
idea.At
last,
the
IOC
decided
to
hold
Winter
Olympic
Games
in
1916.
However,
World
WarⅠbroke
out
in
1914.
After
1920,
the
national
governing
bodies
for
winter
sports
in
several
countries
began
talking
about
the
possibility
of
a
separate
Winter
Olympics.
The
town
of
Chamonix,
in
the
French
Alps,
planned
to
hold
a
winter
sports
festival
in
1924;
at
the
same
time
Paris
was
to
host
the
Olympics.The
Marquis
de
Polignac,
a
member
of
the
IOC,
suggested
that
the
festival
be
formally
recognized
as
the
Winter
Olympic
Games.The
IOC
didn't
go
that
far,
but
did
agree
that
Chamonix
could
call
its
festival
an
“Olympic
winter
carnival”.
The
festival
drew
258
athletes
from
16
countries
to
compete
in
bobsledding(雪橇比赛),
figure?skating,
hockey,
Nordic
skiing
and
speed
skating.Charles
Jewtraw
from
the
United
States
won
the
first
gold
medal
in
the
500?metre
speed
skating,
but
the
festival's
hero
was
Claus
Thunberg
from
Finland.He
won
five
medals,
three
of
which
were
gold
in
speed
skating.
Weather
has
often
been
a
major
story
at
the
Winter
Olympics
and
so
it
was
at
Chamonix.The
festival
opened
with
rain
and
the
unseasonably
warm
temperature
turned
snow
and
ice
to
mud.Then
temperature
dropped
as
far
as
25
below
zero
and
the
mud
became
ice.
Despite
the
weather,
more
than
10,000
people
showed
up.In
1926,
the
IOC
recognized
the
Chamonix
festival
as
the
first
Winter
Olympics
and
decided
that
the
Winter
Games
would
be
held
every
four
years,
just
like
the
Summer
Olympics.
24.Why
were
the
first
Winter
Olympic
Games
not
held
in
1916?
A.Because
the
IOC
didn't
agree
to
it.
B.Because
it
was
still
under
discussion.
C.Because
some
people
opposed
the
idea.
D.Because
World
WarⅠbroke
out
in
1914.
25.We
can
know
from
the
passage
that
________.
A.the
weather
destroyed
the
first
Winter
Olympics
B.people
from
16
countries
watched
the
first
Winter
Olympics
C.Charles
Jewtraw
won
the
most
medals
in
the
first
Winter
Olympics
D.Finland
got
3
gold
medals
in
speed
skating
in
the
first
Winter
Olympics
26.Which
of
the
following
statements
is
TRUE
according
to
the
passage?
A.The
Winter
Olympics
were
held
every
two
years
in
the
beginning.
B.The
1924
Winter
Olympics
and
Summer
Olympics
were
held
in
the
same
city.
C.
The
Winter
Olympics
depend
much
more
on
the
weather
than
the
Summer
Olympics.
D.The
IOC
agreed
to
recognize
the
Chamonix
festival
as
the
first
Winter
Olympics
in
1924.
27.What's
the
best
title
for
the
passage?
A.The

I
like
watching
TV
very
much
for
I
think
it
has
many
advantages.
First
of
all,
watching
TV
is
a
good
rest.
After
a
day
of
hard
work,
we
need
a
good
rest.
Watching
TV
can
make
our
mind
and
body
not
tired
any
more
because
of
the
pleasant
music
and
TV
plays.
Besides,
watching
TV
is
entertaining.
There
are
many
kinds
of
entertainment,
such
as
sports
activities,
singing
and
dancing
concerts,
plays
and
films
all
over
the
world
at
every
time.
It's
not
possible
for
us
to
go
to
every
place
to
enjoy
all
the
activities
within
a
short
time.
We
need
at
least
over
ten
hours
to
fly
from
New
York
to
Paris,
a
week
by
train
from
Beijing
to
Moscow
and
an
hour
to
drive
from
Queens
District
to
Manhattan
District.
But
within
just
one
second,
TV
can
bring
us
from
an
NBA
game
in
New
York
to
a
fashion
show
in
Paris
by
changing
the
channels.
Most
importantly,
watching
TV
is
educational.
Our
children
can
learn
every
kind
of
subjects
through
the
educational
programmes
and
the
special
reports
on
TV,
and
it's
easy
for
them
to
learn
Chinese
from
a
Chinese
teacher
in
Beijing
and
to
learn
Russian
lessons
from
a
Russian
teacher
in
Moscow.
Even
we
can
learn
how
to
behave
well
from
the
TV
plays.
Besides,
a
teacher
can
teach
millions
of
students
without
a
huge
classroom.
24.The

A.TV

the

________.
A.TV
brings
different
parts
of
the
world
in
front
of
us
B.TV
stations
send

C.how
to
go
to
different
places
and
enjoy
ourselves
D.how
long
it
will
take
a
man
to
drive
to
different
places
26.According
to
the
writer
what
is
the
most
important
reason
for
watching
TV?
A.We
can
enjoy
ourselves.
B.Watching
TV
is
a
good
rest.
C.We
can
see
whatever
we
like.
D.We
can
learn
something
useful.
27.The

writes
the
text
to
________.
A.persuade
us
to
buy
a

some

programmes

ideas
about

C
Have
you
ever
wondered
why
birds
sing?
Maybe
you
thought
that
they
were
just
happy.
After
all,
you
probably
sing
or
whistle
when
you
are
happy.
Some
scientists
believe
that
birds
do
sing
some
of
the
time
just
because
they
are
happy.
However
they
sing
most
of
the
time
for
a
very
different
reason.
Their
singing
is
actually
a
warning
to
other
birds
to
stay
out
of
their
territory.
Do
you
know
what
a
territory
is?
A
territory
is
an
area
that
an
animal,
usually
the
male,
claims
as
its
own.
Only
he
and
his
family
are
welcome
there.
No
other
families
of
the
same
species
are
welcome.
Your
yard
and
house
are
your
territory
where
only
your
family
and
friends
are
welcome.
If
a
stranger
should
enter
your
territory
and
threaten
you,
you
might
shout.
Probably
this
would
be
enough
to
frighten
him
away.
If
so,
you
have
actually
scared
the
stranger
away
without
having
to
fight
him.
A
bird
does
the
same
thing.
But
he
expects
an
outsider
almost
any
time,
especially
at
nesting(筑巢)
season.
So
he
is
screaming
all
the
time,
whether
he
can
see
an
outsider
or
not.
This
screaming
is
what
we
call
a
bird's
song,
and
it
is
usually
enough
to
keep
an
outsider
away.
Birds
sing
loudest
in
the
spring
when
they
are
trying
to
attract
a
mate
and
warn
others
not
to
enter
the
territory
of
theirs.
You
can
see
that
birds
have
a
language
of
their
own.
Most
of
it
has
to
do
with
attracting
mates
and
setting
up
territories.
28.Some
scientists
believe
that
most
of
the
time
bird's
singing
is
actually
________.
A.a
way
of
warning
B.an
expression
of
happiness
C.an
expression
of
anger
D.a
way
of
greeting
29.What
does
the
underlined
word
“territory”(in
Paragraph
3)
mean?
A.A
place
where
families
of
other
species
are
not
accepted.
B.An
area
which
a
bird
considers
to
be
its
own.
C.An
area
for
which
birds
fight
against
each
other.
D.A
place
where
a
bird
may
shout
at
the
top
of
its
voice.
30.Why
do
birds
keep
on
singing
at
nesting
season?
A.Because
they
want
to
invite
more
friends.
B.Because
their
singing
helps
get
rid
of
their
fears.
C.Because
they
want
to
find
outsiders
around.
D.Because
their
singing
helps
frighten
outsiders
away.
31.How
does
the
writer
explain
bird's
singing?
A.By
describing
birds'
daily
life.
B.By
reporting
experiment
results.
C.By
comparing
birds
with
human
beings.
D.By
telling
a
bird's
story.

Do
you
enjoy
reading?
Do
you
read
newspapers
or
magazines?
Chances
are,
if
you
do
any
of
these
activities,
your
preschool
child
is
on
his
way
to
becoming
a
reader.
The
process
of
learning
to
read
is
complex,
and
one
of
the
most
important
things
to
know
is
that
parents
can
help
their
children
learn
to
read.
As
children
have
conversations
with
adults,
they
hear
both
new
and
familiar
words
and
their
vocabulary
grows.
There
are
many
opportunities
for
adults
and
children
to
talk
together,
such
as
when
riding
in
the
car
or
in
a
bus,
doing
housework
like
fixing
dinner,
or
bathing
and
getting
ready
for
bed.
A
major
part
of
conversation
is
listening.
When
children
talk,
adults
listen
and
respond.
Then
children
listen
and
respond,
and
so
the
flow
of
conversation
happens.
Have
you
watched
your
preschool
child
pretend
to
read
to
his
younger
sisters
or
brothers?
Have
you
read
his
favorite
story
over
and
over?
These
experiences
tell
children
that
reading
is
fun.
And
when
things
are
fun
and
they
are
repeated,
your
child
will
see
letters.
He
begins
to
connect
them
to
familiar
words,
especially
the
letters
that
make
up
his
name.
A
natural
next
step
for
him
to
take
is
to
write
the
letters.
When
children
see
parents
make
a
grocery
list,
they
want
to
use
a
pencil
and
paper
to
make
their
own
list.
To
encourage
these
beginning
writing
activities,
have
pencils,
markers,
crayons
and
scrap
paper
within
your
children's
reach.
The
more
children
get
connected
with
talking,
listening,
reading
and
writing,
the
easier
it
is
for
them
to
become
active
readers.
While
you
as
a
parent
have
a
big
influence
on
these
early
behaviors,
it
is
important
to
remember
that
opportunities
for
literacy
experiences
happen
when
you
and
your
child
share
in
the
basic
routines(日常生活)
of
everyday
life.
32.The
third
paragraph
tells
us
that
parents
can
talk
with
their

________.
A.only
in
quiet
places
B.during
daily
routines
C.in
their
spare
time
D.when
they
are
eager
to

33.During
the
process
of
learning
to
read,
children
may
________.
A.waste
a
lot
of
paper
and
other
materials
B.prefer
to
talk
with
those
of
their
own
age
C.show
no
interest
in
reading
at
all
D.copy
the
action
of
the
adults
34.When
do
children
want
to
learn
to
write?
A.When
they
can
connect
letters
with
familiar
words.
B.When
they
believe
they
can
write
well.
C.When
they
know
what
they
want
to
know.
D.When
their
parents
ask
them
to
do
so.
35.The
passage
is
written
to
________.
A.talk
about
parents'
influence
on
their
children's
behavior
B.encourage
parents
to
set
a
good
example
to
their
children
C.advise
parents
to
make
reading
a
part
of
their
children's
daily
life
D.make
parents
believe
in
the
importance
of
early
reading

About
50
feet
from
shore
of
the
Northern
California’s
Trinidad
State
Beach,
two
brothers
were
fighting
for
their
lives.
They
had
been
swept
out
to
sea
in
a
rip
current
(激流),
their
mouths
barely
able
to
stay
above
the
water.
Thick
fog
made
it
difficult
for
beachgoers
to
see
the
guys,
but
the
screams
were
unmistakable.
And
every
second
counted.
The
brothers,
aged
15
and
20,
were
wearing
shorts
and
T-shirts,
unsuitable
for
a
November
day,
let
alone
the
freezing
water.
Keven
Harder,
a
supervising
ranger
(巡查员),
told
the
North
Coast
Journal
in
nearby
Eureka
that
swimming
in
such
a
temperature
“takes
the
fight
right
out
of
you.”
Luckily,
four
surfers
in
wet
suits
were
nearby.
Narayan
Weibel,
Spenser
Stratton,
and
Adrian
York,
all
16,
along
with
Taj
Ortiz-Beck,
15,
were
on
their
surfboards
riding
up
and
down
the
coast
on
five-foot
waves
when
they
heard
the
cries.
They
turned
and
saw
two
bobbing
heads
and
four
struggling
arms.
“We
looked
at
each
other
and
knew
these
guys
were
about
to
drown,”
Weibel
told
the
Washington
Post.
Weibel,
Stratton,
and
Ortiz-Beck
paddled
toward
the
distressed
swimmers
while
York
headed
to
shore
to
warn
someone
to
call
911.
He
then
dived
back
in
to
help
his
friends.
As
the
surfers
drew
close,
the
brothers
were
still
fighting
hard
for
their
lives.
“It
was
pretty
stressful,
but
there
wasn’t
any
time
to
think
about
it,
and
that
helped
me
keep
my
cool,”
Ortiz-Beck
says.
Ortiz-Beck
pulled
up
alongside
the
younger
brother.
Grabbing
him
under
his
arms,
he
raised
him
up
onto
his
board.
Stratton
and
Weibel,
meanwhile,
hurried
to
help
the
older
brother.
He
was
large,
250
to
300
pounds,
and
he
was
panicked.
“I
told
them,
‘Calm
down—we
got
you!’”
says
Weibel.
“They
thought
they
were
going
to
die.”
York
arrived
in
time
to
help
get
the
older
brother
atop
the
second
board.
The
surfers
then
paddled
several
minutes
through
choppy
water
to
the
medical
help
waiting
onshore.
The
brothers
were
scared
but
fine.
“When
we
get
a
call
like
this
one,
it’s
usually
too
late
by
the
time
we
get
there,”
says
Dillon
Cleavenger,
a
first
responder.
“I
can’t
say
enough
about
what
these
boys
did.
They
were
willing
and
prepared
to
risk
their
lives.”
What
can
we
know
from
the
first
paragraph?
Two
brothers
were
almost
drowned
in
the
sea.
Beachgoers
happened
to
meet
the
two
brothers.
The
supervising
ranger
warned
them
not
to
swim
then.
Surfers
barely
wore
T-shirts
and
shorts
in
such
weather.
What
were
the
four
boys
doing
when
they
heard
the
screams?
A.
Swimming
in
a
rip
current.
B.
Surfing
on
high
waves.
C.
Struggling
with
their
arms
to
shore.
D.

28.
Which
of
the
following
words
can
best
describe
the
four
surfers?
A.
Hardworking
and
friendly.
B.
Kind

C
Scientists
may
have
found
a
way
to
reduce
shortage
of
type
O
blood.
Type
O
is
the
kind
of
blood
that
hospitals
most
often
need.
What
the
researchers
are
testing
is
an
easier
way
to
make
type
O
blood
out
of
other
kinds
of
blood.
There
are
four
main
kinds
of
blood.
Most
people
born
with
one
of
these
four:
Type
A,
Type
B,
Type
AB
or
Type
O.
Type
O
can
be
safely
given
to
anyone.
So
it
is
commonly
used
when
a
person
is
injured
or
sick
and
has
to
have
blood.
Type
O
is
the
most
common
blood
group.
But
the
supplies
of
it
available
in
hospitals
and
blood
banks
are
usually
limited.
This
is
because
of
the
high
demand
for
it.
Type
O
blood
is
used
in
emergencies
when
there
is
no
time
to
identify
the
patient’s
blood
type.
Giving
A,
B
or
AB
to
someone
with
a
different
blood
type,
including
O,
can
cause
a
bad
reaction
by
the
person’s
defense
system.
Their
immune
system
(免疫系统)
can
reject
the
blood.
This
immune
reaction
can
be
deadly.
The
differences
among
blood
types
are
linked
to
whether
or
not
red
blood
cells
contain
certain
kinds
of
sugar
molecules.
These
molecules
are
found
on
the
surface
of
the
cells.
They
are
known
as
antigens
(抗原).
These
antigens
are
found
with
type
A,
B
and
AB
blood
but
not
with
type
O.
A
year
ago,
scientists
found
that
the
antigens
could
be
removed
to
create
what
they
called
universal-type
cells.
They
could
be
removed
with
chemicals
called
enzymes
(酶).
But
large
amounts
of
enzymes
were
required
to
make
the
change.
Doctor
Henrik
Clausen
of
the
University
of
Copenhagen
in
Denmark
led
the
study.
The
next
step,
he
says,
is
to
complete
safety
tests.
The
team
is
working
with
the
American
company
ZymeQuest
to
test
the
new
method.
If
it
meets
safety
requirements,
it
could
become
a
widely
used
life-saving
tool
to
increase
the
supply
of
universal
blood.
28.
How
do
scientists
deal
with
the
problem
of
lacking
type
O
blood?
A.
Make
type
O
blood
out
of
other
kinds
of
blood.
B.
Make
the
most
of
the
present
type
O
blood.
C.
Develop
new
ways
of
using
type
O
blood.
D.
Appeal
to
more
people
to
donate
type
O
blood.
29.
What
make
people
have
different
kinds
of
blood?
A.
Sugar
molecules
in
red
blood
cells.
B.
People's
different
living
conditions.
C.
The
variety
of
people's
cells
and
genes
D.
People's
various
immune
systems.
30.
What
can
we
infer
from
the
text?
A.
Antigens
could
easily
be
removed
to
create
universal
blood.
B.
A
Danish
company
wanted
to
involve
itself
in
studying
blood.
C.
Type
O
blood
can
be
safely
given
to
anyone.
D.
The
new
method
is
not
safe
enough
to
be
put
into
use
in
hospitals
now.
31.
What
is
the
best
title
for
the
text?
A.
Four
different
kinds
of
blood.
B.
A
new
way
to
make
type
O
blood.
C.
The
latest
research
on
blood

D
As
data
and
identity
theft
becomes
more
and
more
common,
the
market
is
growing
for
biometric
(生物测量)technologies
—
like
fingerprint
scans
—
to
keep
others
out
of
private
e-spaces.
At
present,
these
technologies
are
still
expensive,
though.
Researchers
from
Georgia
Tech
say
that
they
have
come
up
with
a
low-cost
device(装置)
that
gets
around
this
problem:
a
smart
keyboard.
This
smart
keyboard
precisely
measures
the
cadence
(节奏)with
which
one
types
and
the
pressure
fingers
apply
to
each
key.
The
keyboard
could
offer
a
strong
layer
of
security
by
analyzing
things
like
the
force
of
a
user’s
typing
and
the
time
between
key
presses.
These
patterns
are
unique
to
each
person.
Thus,
the
keyboard
can
determine
people’s
identities,
and
by
extension,
whether
they
should
be
given
access
to
the
computer
it’s
connected
to
—
regardless
of
whether
someone
gets
the
password
right.
It
also
doesn’t
require
a
new
type
of
technology
that
people
aren’t
already
familiar
with.
Everybody
uses
a
keyboard
and
everybody
types
differently.
In
a
study
describing
the
technology,
the
researchers
had
100
volunteers
type
the
word
“touch”
four
times
using
the
smart
keyboard.
Data
collected
from
the
device
could
be
used
to
recognize
different
participants
based
on
how
they
typed,
with
very
low
error
rates.
The
researchers
say
that
the
keyboard
should
be
pretty
straightforward
to
commercialize
and
is
mostly
made
of
inexpensive,
plastic-like
parts.
The
team
hopes
to
make
it
to
market
in
the
near
future.
32.
Why
do
the
researchers
develop
the
smart
keyboard?
A.
To
reduce
pressure
on
keys.
B.
To
improve
accuracy
in
typing.
C.
To
replace
the
password
system.
D.
To
cut
the
cost
of
e-space
protection.
33.
What
makes
the
invention
of
the
smart
keyboard
possible?
A.
Computers
are
much
easier
to
operate.
B.
Fingerprint
scanning
techniques
develop
fast.
C.
Typing
patterns
vary
from
person
to
person.
D.
Data
security
measures
are
guaranteed.
34.
What
do
the
researchers
expect
of
the
smart
keyboard?
A.
It’ll
be
environment-friendly.
B.
It’ll
reach
consumers
soon.
C.
It’ll
be
made
of
plastics.
D.
It’ll
help
speed
up
typing.
35.
Where
is
this
text
most
likely
from?
A.
A
diary.
B.
A
guidebook.
C.
A
novel.
D.
A
magazine.

B
On
the
first
day
of
fourth
grade,
my
teacher,
Mrs.
Brown,
told
my
class
a
story
about
her
husband
Rob,
who
is
a
brain
cancer
survivor.
After
what
Mrs.
Brown
experienced
with
Robs’
illness,
she
decided
to
devote
part
of
her
life
to
an
organization
called
Be
head
Strong,
which
works
to
support
families
with
a
member
suffering
from
brain
cancer.
Along
with
typical
math
and
science,
throughout
the
year,
Mrs.
Brown
shared
stories
with
us
about
people
in
Be
Head
Strong
who
had
overcome
some
tough
and
unfair
battles.
Mrs.
Brown
never
showed
any
sadness
or
confusion
toward
the
disease.
She
instead
spoke
only
with
words
of
determination
to
find
a
cure.
Whether
news
from
Be
Head
Strong
was
good
or
bad,
she
always
looked
at
the
situation
as
an
opportunity
to
improve
and
do
more.
My
parents
taught
me
from
a
very
young
age
that
making
wise
choices
with
my
money
is
important.
I
would
always
set
aside
most
of
my
$
2.50-a-week
allowance.
By
the
end
of
the
school
year,
I
had
saved
over
one
hundred
dollars,
$
131.30
to
be
exact.
One
day
was
wondering
what
to
do
with
it.
I
did
not
feel
like
any
game
or
toy
was
worth
the
time
I
had
spent
saving.
I
thought
about
the
stories
Mrs.
Brown
told
us,
then
I
decided
that
was
where
I
wanted
my
money
to
go.
As
the
last
day
of
school
approached,
my
mom
helped
me
wrap
the
heart-shaped
box
full
of
dollars
and
coins.
After
all
the
other
kids
had
left
on
the
last
day
of
school,
I
handed
Mrs.
Brown
the
present.
As
she
opened
it,
I
told
her
that
I
wanted
the
money
to
go
to
Be
Head
Strong
to
help
people
like
Rob.
She
broke
into
tears
and
hugged
me
tightly.
People
may
not
always
realize
how
big
of
an
influence
one
kind
gesture
can
make.
One
teacher
encouraged
a
decision
in
my
life
that
has
changed
the
way
how
I
live.

The
“24
solar
terms”
(节气)
originated
and
was
firstly
used
in
China.
It
was
created
thousands
years
ago
on
the
basis
of
practical
needs
of
agriculture.
Ancient
Chinese
people
used
it
to
guide
agriculture
production,
special
climate
signs
and
even
healthy
living
tips.
Last
year,
the
24
solar
terms
was
added
to
UNESCO’s
world
cultural
heritage
list.
Now,
it
has
been
brought
to
life
thanks
to
a
creative
designer
from
Southwest
China’s
Guizhou
province.
On
the
eve
of
this
year’s
Qingming
Festival,
Shi
Changhong
released
(发布)
his
version
of
re-produced
and
packaged
characters
for
each
solar
term
in
the
form
of
“moving
art”
of
gifts.
Since
their
first
release
on?Zcool?on
March

the
gifts
have
won
great
praise
among
the
general
public
and
quickly
flooded
social
media
with
millions
of
hits
during
the
festival
period.
To
maximize
publicity,
Shi
released
his
work
in
three
forms:
video,
animation
and
picture.
The
background
sounds
add
to
the
brilliance.
“When
I
watch
the
short
video,
I
can
strongly
feel
the
Chinese-style
elements
hidden
in
them.
And
it
is
really
cool
to
liven
up
Chinese
traditional
culture
in
such
a
unique
way.”
WeChat
user
Xiao

said.
“It
is
really
a
comfort
to
me
to
see
so
many
people
like
my
latest
work.
To
be
honest,
it
would
really
surprise
me
if
the
work
does
not
arouse
great
interest
among
Chinese
people.
The
24
solar
items
is
a
deeply
rooted
concept
that
covers
the
essence
of
Chinese
wisdom.
However,
only
a
small
portion
of
people
know
all
the
names
or
the
correct
order
of
those
terms.
My
intention
is
to
increase
Chinese
people’s
self
awareness
to
learn
more
about
our
traditional
fine
culture.
Actually,
the
24
solar
items
work
is
only
a
part
of
my
whole
design
program
‘Charm
China’,
which
I
started
over
a
year

romantic
relationship”,this
“loss
of
self”
is
much
more
likely
to
lead
to
depression
when
it
happens
to
girls.
Young
girls
who
have
romantic
relationships
usually
like
hiding
their
feelings
and
opinions.
They
won’t
tell
that
to
their
parents.
Dr
Marianm
Kaufman,an
expert
on
young
people
problems,says
15%
to
20%
young
people
will
have
depression
during
their
growing.
Trying
romance
often
causes
the
depression.
She
advises
kids
not
to
jump
into
romance
too
early.
During
growing
up,it
is
important
for
young
people
to
build
strong
friendships
and
a
strong
sense
of
self.
She
also
suggests
the
parents
should
encourage
their
kids
to
keep
close
to
their
friends,attend
more
interesting
school
activities
and
spend
enough
time
with
family.
Parents
should
watch
for
signs
of
depression—eating
or
mood
changes—and
if
they
see
signs
from
their
daughters
or
sons,they
need
to
give
help.
The
good
news
is
that
the
connection
between
romance
and
depression
seems
to
become
weak
with
age.
Love
will
always
make
us
feel
young,
but
only
maturity
gives
us
a
chance
to
avoid
its
bad
side
effects.
28.What’s

is
more
likely
to
have
depression?

for
their
behavior.
30.What
can

less
likely
she
seems
to
lose
herself
in
romance.
B.Lacking
love
can
lead
young
people
to
grow
up
more
quickly.
C.Early
love
makes
young
people
keep
close
to
their
friends
and
parents.
D.Parents
should
help
their
children
to
be
aware
of
signs
of
depression.
31.What’s

Tree
planting
used
to
be
regarded
as
an
effective
means
of
controlling
climate
change.
Perhaps
it’s
time
for
us
to
rethink
this
practice.
Trees
pull
carbon
dioxide
or
CO2
from
the
air.
This
effectively
removes
CO2
from
the
atmosphere,
making
trees
an
important
part
of
the
fight
against
climate
change.
But
trees
only
hold
onto
carbon
dioxide
as
long
as
they’re
alive.
Once
they
die,
trees
decay
(腐烂)
and
release
that
CO2
back
into
the
atmosphere.
Recent
studies
have
found
that
trees
around
the
world
are
growing
faster
than
ever.
Rising
atmospheric
CO2
is
probably
driving
that
rapid
growth,
said
Roel
Brienen.
High
levels
of
this
gas
are
boosting
temperatures,
which
in
turn
speeds
tree
growth
in
those
areas,
he
added.
The
faster
trees
grow,
the
faster
they
store
carbon.
It
seems
like
good
news.
However,
it
is
known
that
fast-growing
tree
species,
in
general,
live
shorter
lives
than
their
slow-growing
relatives.
In
order
to
see
whether
this
is
a
universal
phenomenon,
Brienen
and
his
colleagues
analyzed
over
210,000
individual
tree
ring
records
of
110
tree
species
from
more
than
70,000
sites
worldwide.
“By
measuring
tree
rings’
widths
one
can
tell
how
fast
trees
grew,
while
counting
rings
provides
information
on
tree
ages
and
allows
making
inferences
about
trees’
maximum
lifespan
(寿命).”
Brienen
explained.
The
team
also
created
a
computer
program
that
modeled
a
forest.
Early
on,
it
showed
that
“the
forest
could
hold
more
carbon
as
the
trees
grew
faster”,
Brienen
reported.
But
after
20
years,
these
trees
started
dying
and
losing
this
extra
carbon
again.
“We
must
understand
that
the
only
solution
to
bring
down
CO2
levels
is
to
stop
emitting
(排放)
it
into
the
atmosphere,”
said
Brienen.
What
is
the
first
paragraph
mainly
about?
Why
trees
against
climate
change
should
be
rethought.
Whether
trees
will
be
planted
or
not.
Why
the
atmosphere
can
remove
carbon
dioxide.
Where
carbon
dioxide
or
CO2
is.
Why
are
trees
growing
faster
than
ever
according
to
recent
studies?
A.
They
give
off
and
store
lots
of
CO2.
B.
They
belong
to
fast-growing
species.
C.
Rising
atmospheric
CO2
may
help
them.
D.
The
surrounding
trees
may
affect
them.
According
to
tree
rings’
widths,
we
can
know
a
tree’s
_______.
A.
growth
speed
B.
height
C.
age
D.
top
lifespan
What
might
be
talked
about
in
the
following
paragraph?
Why
the
team
founded
the
computer
program.
Why
the
faster
trees
grow,
the
longer
they
live.
How
to
make
the
old
trees
live
a
little
longer.
How
to
deal
with
dying
trees
emitting
their
extra
carbon.
