George
Gershwin,
born
in
1898,
was
one
of
America's
greatest
composers.
He
published
his
first
song
when
he
was
eighteen
years
old.
During
the
next
twenty
years
he
wrote
more
than
five
hundred
songs.
Many
of
Gershwin's
songs
were
first
written
for
musical
plays
performed
in
theatres
in
New
York
City.
These
plays
were
a
popular
form
of
entertainment
in
the
1920s
and
1930s.
Many
of
his
songs
have
remained
popular
as
ever.
Over
the
years
they
have
been
sung
and
played
in
every
possible
way

from
jazz
to
country.
In
the
1920s
there
was
a
debate
in
the
United
States
about
jazz
music.
Could
jazz,
some
people
asked,
be
considered
serious
music?
In
1924
jazz
musician
and
orchestra
leader
Paul
Whiteman
decided
to
organize
a
special
concert
to
show
that
jazz
was
serious
music.
Gershwin
agreed
to
compose
something
for
the
concert
before
he
realized
he
had
just
a
few
weeks
to
do
it.
And
in
that
short
time,
he
composed
a
piece
for
piano
and
orchestra
which
he
called
Rhapsody
in
Blue.
Gershwin
himself
played
the
piano
at
the
concert.
The
audience
were
thrilled
when
they
heard
his
music.
It
made
him
world-famous
and
showed
that
jazz
music
could
be
both
serious
and
popular.
In
1928,
Gershwin
went
to
Paris.
He
applied
to
study
composition
with
the
well-known
musician
Nadia
Boulanger,
but
she
rejected
him.
She
was
afraid
that
classical
study
would
ruin
his
jazz-influenced
style.
While
there,
Gershwin
wrote
An
American
in
Paris.
When
it
was
first
performed,
critics
were
divided
over
the
music.
Some
called
it
happy
and
full
of
life,
to
others
it
was
silly
and
boring.
But
it
quickly
became
popular
in
Europe
and
the
United
States.
It
still
remains
one
of
his
most
famous
works.
George
Gershwin
died
in
1937,
just
days
after
doctors
learned
he
had
brain
cancer.
He
was
only
thirty-nine
years
old.
Newspapers
all
over
the
world
reported
his
death
on
their
front
pages.
People
mourned
the
loss
of
the
man
and
all
the
music
he
might
have
still
written.

C
Some
years
ago,
writing
in
my
diary
used
to
be
a
usual
activity.I
would
return
from
school
and
spend
the
expected
half
hour
recording
the
day's
events,
feelings,
and
impressions
in
my
little
blue
diary.I
did
not
really
need
to
express
my
emotions
by
way
of
words,
but
I
gained
a
certain
satisfaction
from
seeing
my
experiences
forever
recorded
on
paper.After
all,
isn't
accumulating
memories
a
way
of
preserving
the
past?
When
I
was
thirteen
years
old,
I
went
on
a
long
journey
on
foot
in
a
great
valley,
well-equipped
with
pens,
a
diary,
and
a
camera.During
the
trip,
I
was
busy
recording
every
incident,
name
and
place
I
came
across.I
felt
proud
to
be
spending
my
time
productively,
dutifully
preserving
for
future
generations
a
detailed
description
of
my
travels.On
my
last
night
there,
I
wandered
out
of
my
tent,
diary
in
hand.The
sky
was
clear
and
lit
by
the
glare
of
the
moon,
and
the
walls
of
the
valley
looked
threatening
behind
their
screen
of
shadows.I
automatically
took
out
my
pen…
At
that
point,
I
understood
that
nothing
I
wrote
could
ever
match
or
replace
the
few
seconds
I
allowed
myself
to
experience
the
dramatic
beauty
of
the
valley.All
I
remembered
of
the
previous
few
days
were
the
dull
characterizations
I
had
set
down
in
my
diary.
Now,
I
only
write
in
my
diary
when
I
need
to
write
down
a
special
thought
or
feeling.I
still
love
to
record
ideas
and
quotations
that
strike
me
in
books,
or
observations
that
are
particularly
meaningful.I
take
pictures,
but
not
very
often—only
of
objects
I
find
really
beautiful.I'm
no
longer
blindly
satisfied
with
having
something
to
remember
when
I
grow
old.I
realize
that
life
will
simply
pass
me
by
if
I
stay
behind
the
camera,
busy
preserving
the
present
so
as
to
live
it
in
the
future.
I
don't
want
to
wake
up
one
day
and
have
nothing
but
a
pile
of
pictures
and
notes.Maybe
I
won't
have
as
many
exact
representations
of
people
and
places;
maybe
I'll
forget
certain
facts,
but
at
least
the
experiences
will
always
remain
inside
me.I
don't
live
to
make
memories—I
just
live,
and
the
memories
form
themselves.

A
year
ago,
shortly
after
Janey
Henriksen
saw
a
Brian
Williams
report
about
the
Little
Free
Library
organization,
a
Wisconsin-based
nonprofit
that
aims
to
promote
literacy
and
build
a
sense
of
community
in
a
neighborhood
by
making
books
freely
available,
she
announced
to
her
family
of
four,
“That's
what
we're
going
to
do
for
our
spring
break!”
Son
Austin,
now
a
10th-grader,
didn't
see
the
point
of
building
a
library
that
resembles
a
mailbox.
But
Janey
insisted,
and
husband
Peter
unwillingly
got
to
work.
The
51-year-old
owner
of
a
ship
supply
company
modified
a
small
wooden
house
that
he'd
built
years
earlier
for
daughter
Abbie's
toy
horses,
and
made
a
door
of
glass.
After
adding
the
library's
final
touches,
the
family
hung
a
signboard
on
the
front,
instructing
users
to
“take
a
book,
return
a
book,”
and
making
the
Henriksen
library,
now
one
of
several
hundred

more

2,500

the

They
stocked
it

20
or
so
books
they'd
already
read,
a
mix
of
science

reference
titles,
novels
and
kids'
favorites.
“I
told
them,
keep
in
mind
that
you
might
not

said
Janey,
a

mom.
Since

itself,

to
ongoing
donations
from
borrowers.

第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
  Both
men
and
women
are
living
longer
these
days
in
industrialized
countries. 36 In
general,
they
can
expect
to
live
six
or
seven
years
more
than
men.
One
reason
for
this
is
biological.
  One
important
biological
factor
that
helps
women
live
longer
is
the
difference
in
hormones
between
men
and
women. 37 Between
the
ages
of
about
12
and
50,women
produce
hormones
that
are
involved
in
fertility.These
hormones
also
have
a
positive
effect
on
the
heart
and
blood
flow.
In
fact,
women
are
less
likely
to
have
high
blood
pressure
or
to
die
from
heart
attacks.
   38 They
help
the
body
defend
itself
against
some
kinds
of
infections.
This
means
that
women
generally
get
sick
less
often
and
less
seriously
than
men.
The
common
cold
is
a
good
example:
women,
on
average,
get
fewer
colds

Well,
it

really
great
to
be
back
at

again.
The
thing
that
I
want
to
tell
you
today
is
this:
education
is
important.
When
I
came
to
the
U.S.,
I
was
only
thinking
about
being
a

but
I
could
not
read
the

I
could

movies
or
anything
like
this,
so
I
entered
the
city
college
to
take
English
classes
for
foreign
students.
I
was
very
proud
that
I
was
going
to
a
college
because
no
one
in
my
family
ever
went
to
any
college
or
to
any
university.
You
know,
when
you
are
15
years
old
in
my
country,
you
finish
school
and
then
you
learn
a
trade.
And
that’s
exactly
what
I
did.
When
I
was
15
years
old,
I
learned
how
to
be
a
carpenter.

year
later,
I
came
to
America.
Luckily,
I
met
a
very
good
teacher
who
encouraged
me
to
take
some
math
classes,
business
classes
and
history
classes
and
I
became
a
full-time
college
student.
And
today
when
I
look
back,
I’m
so
happy
because
you
never
know
where
life
will
take
you.
All
of
a
sudden,
I
started
making
money,
because
I
was
really
good
at
math.
You
know,
how
to
work
out
everything
with
math
is
so
important.
This
is
something
that
I
learned
when
I
started
my
own
business,
which
is
doing
really
well.

B
George
Gershwin,
born
in
1898,
was
one
of
America's
greatest
composers.
He
published
his
first
song
when
he
was
eighteen
years
old.
During
the
next
twenty
years
he
wrote
more
than
five
hundred
songs.
Many
of
Gershwin's
songs
were
first
written
for
musical
plays
performed
in
theatres
in
New
York
City.
These
plays
were
a
popular
form
of
entertainment
in
the
1920s
and
1930s.
Many
of
his
songs
have
remained
popular
as
ever.
Over
the
years
they
have
been
sung
and
played
in
every
possible
way

from
jazz
to
country.
In
the
1920s
there
was
a
debate
in
the
United
States
about
jazz
music.
Could
jazz,
some
people
asked,
be
considered
serious
music?
In
1924
jazz
musician
and
orchestra
leader
Paul
Whiteman
decided
to
organize
a
special
concert
to
show
that
jazz
was
serious
music.
Gershwin
agreed
to
compose
something
for
the
concert
before
he
realized
he
had
just
a
few
weeks
to
do
it.
And
in
that
short
time,
he
composed
a
piece
for
piano
and
orchestra
which
he
called
Rhapsody
in
Blue.
Gershwin
himself
played
the
piano
at
the
concert.
The
audience
were
thrilled
when
they
heard
his
music.
It
made
him
world-famous
and
showed
that
jazz
music
could
be
both
serious
and
popular.
In
1928,
Gershwin
went
to
Paris.
He
applied
to
study
composition
with
the
well-known
musician
Nadia
Boulanger,
but
she
rejected
him.
She
was
afraid
that
classical
study
would
ruin
his
jazz-influenced
style.
While
there,
Gershwin
wrote
An
American
in
Paris.
When
it
was
first
performed,
critics
were
divided
over
the
music.
Some
called
it
happy
and
full
of
life,
to
others
it
was
silly
and
boring.
But
it
quickly
became
popular
in
Europe
and
the
United
States.
It
still
remains
one
of
his
most
famous
works.
George
Gershwin
died
in
1937,
just
days
after
doctors
learned
he
had
brain
cancer.
He
was
only
thirty-nine
years
old.
Newspapers
all
over
the
world
reported
his
death
on
their
front
pages.
People
mourned
the
loss
of
the
man
and
all
the
music
he
might
have
still
written.

New
Yorkers
D.performed
in

25.What
do
we
know
about
the
concert
organized
by
Whiteman?
A.It
attracted
more
people
to
theatres.

could
be
serious
music.

made
Gershwin
leader
of
the
orchestra.

26.A
27.A
【解析】
这是一篇人物传记。文章主要讲述了美国著名作曲家乔治·格什温的生平以及他在音乐方面的巨大贡献。
D 考查细节理解。从第二段的“Over
the
years
they
have
been
sung
and
played
in
every
possible
way—from
jazz
to
country.”可知,乔治·格什温的音乐作品是以各种形式演唱或演奏的。故选D。
B 考查推理判断。根据第三段的“Gershwin
himself
played
the
piano
at
the
concert.
The
audience
were
thrilled
when
they
heard
his
music.
It
made
him
world-famous
and
showed
that
jazz
music
could
be
both
serious
and
popular.”可知,这个音乐会充分证明爵士音乐流行的同时,也可以庄重、严肃。
A 考查细节理解。从第四段的第二句可知B项不正确;从第四段的“When
it
was
first
performed,
critics
were
divided
over
the
music.”可知,不是格什温与评论家争辩,故C项不正确;没有提到他音乐风格的改变,故D项不正确;从第四段的最后一句“It
still
remains
one
of
his
most
famous
works.”可知A项是正确的。
A 考查推理判断。从全文看乔治·格什温创作了很多的音乐,其演奏的形式多样化,并得到观众赞赏,这体现了他是一位很有才华,且多产的作曲家。故选A。
C
Some
years
ago,
writing
in
my
diary
used
to
be
a
usual
activity.I
would
return
from
school
and
spend
the
expected
half
hour
recording
the
day's
events,
feelings,
and
impressions
in
my
little

did
not
really
need
to
express
my
emotions
by
way

words,

I
gained
a
certain
satisfaction
from
seeing
my
experiences
forever
recorded
on
paper.After
all,
isn't
accumulating
memories
a
way
of
preserving
the
past?
When
I
was
thirteen
years
old,
I
went
on
a
long
journey
on
foot
in
a
great
valley,
well-equipped
with
pens,
a
diary,
and
a
camera.During
the
trip,
I
was
busy
recording
every
incident,
name
and
place
I
came
across.I
felt
proud
to
be
spending
my
time
productively,
dutifully
preserving
for
future
generations
a
detailed
description
of
my
travels.On
my
last
night
there,
I
wandered
out
of
my
tent,
diary
in
hand.The
sky
was
clear
and
lit
by
the
glare
of
the
moon,
and
the
walls
of
the
valley
looked
threatening
behind
their
screen
of
shadows.I
automatically
took
out
my
pen…
At
that
point,
I
understood
that
nothing
I
wrote
could
ever
match
or
replace
the
few
seconds
I
allowed
myself
to
experience
the
dramatic
beauty
of
the
valley.All
I
remembered
of
the
previous
few
days
were
the
dull
characterizations
I
had
set
down
in
my
diary.
Now,
I
only
write
in
my
diary
when
I
need
to
write
down
a
special
thought
or
feeling.I
still
love
to
record
ideas
and
quotations
that
strike
me
in
books,
or
observations
that
are
particularly
meaningful.I
take
pictures,
but
not
very
often—only
of
objects
I
find
really
beautiful.I'm
no
longer
blindly
satisfied
with
having
something
to
remember
when
I
grow
old.I
realize
that
life
will
simply
pass
me
by
if
I
stay
behind
the
camera,
busy
preserving
the
present
so
as
to
live
it
in
the
future.
I
don't
want
to
wake
up
one
day
and
have
nothing
but
a
pile
of
pictures
and
notes.Maybe
I
won't
have
as
many
exact
representations
of
people
and
places;
maybe
I'll
forget
certain
facts,
but
at
least
the
experiences
will
always
remain
inside
me.I
don't
live
to
make
memories—I
just
live,
and
the
memories
form
themselves.

【答案】
32.D
33.C
34.C
35.A
【解析】
文章主要讲述了Janey
Henriksen一家建立微型图书馆的故事。
32.
D 细节理解题。根据文章第三段第一句可知Janey
Henriksen是因为看到一篇关于the
Little
Free
Library
organization准备建社区图书馆的报道后受到启发才建这样特殊的图书馆的。
33.
C 细节理解题。根据文章第四段第一句可知C项正确。
34.
C 推理判断题。根据文章第五段可知,这个标牌要读者拿走一本书一定要归还,其目的是使图书馆能够持续更长的时间。
35.
A 主旨大意题。根据文章倒数第二段第一句可知借书者经常捐书给图书馆,因此A项正确;文章没有提到给图书馆筹备书应获得报酬,因此B项错误;文章最后一段提到Peter经常收到借书者的感谢信,而不是借书者收到感谢信,因此C项错误;根据文章倒数第二段第二句可知D项错误。
第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
  Both
men
and
women
are
living
longer
these
days
in
industrialized
countries. 36 In
general,
they
can
expect
to
live
six
or
seven
years
more
than
men.
One
reason
for
this
is
biological.
  One
important
biological
factor
that
helps
women
live
longer
is
the
difference
in
hormones
between
men
and
women. 37 Between
the
ages
of
about
12
and
50,women
produce
hormones
that
are
involved
in
fertility.These
hormones
also
have
a
positive
effect
on
the
heart
and
blood
flow.
In
fact,
women
are
less
likely
to
have
high
blood
pressure
or
to
die
from
heart
attacks.
   38 They
help
the
body
defend
itself
against
some
kinds
of
infections.
This
means
that
women
generally
get
sick
less
often
and
less
seriously
than
men.
The
common
cold
is
a
good
example:
women,
on
average,
get
fewer
colds
than
men.
   39 Scientists
are
still
not
exactly
sure
how
genes
influence
aging,
but
they
believe
that
they
do.
Some
think
that
a
woman’s
body
cells
have
a
tendency
to
age
more
slowly
than
a
man’s.
Others
think
that
a
man’s
body
cells
have
a
tendency
to
age
more
quickly. 40
A.However,
women,
on
average,
live
longer.
B.Therefore,women
are
more
healthy
than
men
and
can
live
a
better

【答案】
36.A
37.G
38.D
39.C
40.E
【解析】
本文是一篇说明文,文章探究了女性比男性活得更长的原因。
36.【解析】选A。考查上下文逻辑关系。前句谈到如今的男性和女性都活得更长,而后句谈到女性会比男性多活6至7年,由此可知,此空与前句为转折关系,应该谈及女性比男性活得更长。
37.【解析】选G。考查上下文逻辑关系。前句谈到女性活得更长的一个生物因素是男女之间荷尔蒙的差异,而后句都是有关荷尔蒙的情况,由此可知,空白处应解释荷尔蒙这一名词。
38.【解析】选D。考查段落主旨。第二段谈到荷尔蒙使女性较少患高血压和心脏病,这是荷尔蒙保护女性的一种方式,而本段谈到荷尔蒙保护女性身体免于某些感染,由此可知,这是荷尔蒙保护女性的另一种方式。
39.【解析】选C。考查上下文逻辑关系。后句谈到科学家还不太确信基因是如何影响衰老的,此处关键词为基因,七个选项中只有C项有基因一词。
40.【解析】选E。考查上下文逻辑关系。前面谈到两种观点,即有些科学家认为女性细胞比男性细胞衰老得更慢,而其他科学家认为男性细胞衰老得更快,这里提出了两种可能性,故选E项“最近的调查看来支持这两种可能性”。此处关键词为both。

【解析】
本文是一篇说明文,介绍了美国旧金山庆祝春节的方式。
61.[解析]cultures 设空处前有other修饰,指不止一种文化,culture应用复数形式。故填cultures。
62.[解析]what 句意:旧金山的中国新年庆祝活动就是一个很好的例子,该庆祝活动和我们在上海的庆祝活动类似。分析句子结构可知,设空处引导宾语,从句中缺少do的宾语,表示“……的事物”。故填what。
63.[解析]is
watched 句意:旧金山的中国新年庆祝活动中最著名的环节便是游行,每年有超过三百万人观看。设空处为从句的谓语,which指代the
parade,和watch之间是被动关系,根据时间状语every
year可知,时态要用一般现在时。故填is
watched。
64.[解析]marching 句意:一百多个参赛者参加游行,穿过市中心和唐人街。句子谓语take
part
in与march之间无连词连接,设空处应用非谓语形式;entries与march之间是逻辑上的主动关系,应用现在分词作状语。故填marching。
65.[解析]with 句意:在游行的过程中,人群的欢呼声与音乐交织在一起,同时当地社区的人群也会挥舞横幅和旗子并手提灯笼。mix
...with
...意为“将……与……混合”,为固定搭配,此处为其被动形式。故填with。
66.[解析]a 句意:中式的彩车会经过,其中包括一条很长的金龙,它需要100个人来共同操作。此处泛指“一条很长的金龙”,应用不定冠词修饰。故填a。
67.[解析]takes 句意见上一题解析。设空处为定语从句中的谓语,that指代的a
long
Golden
Dragon
float为第三人称单数形式,从句的谓语动词也应用第三人称单数形式。故填takes。
68.[解析]their 句意:对于许多美国人来说,庆祝他们祖先的文化与庆祝美国文化一样重要,他们二者都庆祝。ancestral
culture为名词短语,应用形容词性物主代词their修饰,表示“他们祖先的文化”。故填their。
69.[解析]important 句意见上一题解析。as
...as
...结构中应用形容词或副词的原级,且此处作is的表语,所以应用形容词。故填important。
70.[解析]to
visit 句意:如果你有机会去美国游览,你可能有机会亲眼看到这些庆祝活动。chance意为“机会”,其后常接不定式作定语。故填to
visit。

【解析】

72.passes改为passed
考查动词时态。根据前面的“I
was
only
four…”可知,用一般过去时。
73.much改为
well/clearly
考查副词词义及用法。根据句意可知,我很清楚地记得我的爷爷。
74.shoulder改为shoulders
考查名词单复数的用法。根据常理可知“人有两个肩膀”,所以用复数形式。
75.toward改为to/into考查介词的用法。根据句意可知,这里指黑胡子变成了花白胡子,所以用turn
from…to/into…的形式。
76.himself改为him
考查代词的用法。句意:他深沉的声音把他和别人区别开来。所以用him。
77.he前加and
考查连词的用法。根据句中结构可知两个分句是并列关系,所以用and连接。
78.去掉fact前的a
考查冠词的用法。根据固定短语in
fact可知,去掉a。
79.during改为when
考查状语从句的连接词。“…they
came
over
to
play
or
do
homework
with
me.”是句子,所以,用连词when。during是介词,不能连接状语从句。
80.never改为
ever
考查副词词义及语境理解。根据句意“他是我认识的最绅士的人”可知,将never改为ever。

【答案】
Dear_Editor,
As_a_student_reader,_I_am_writing_to_talk_about_the_English_textbooks_published_by_your_house.
These
books
have
many
advantages.
One
of
them
is
that
we
can
find
a
variety
of
topics,
such
as
science,
culture
and
history.
These
topics,
I
think,
are
very
popular
with
us
students.
What's
more,
along
with
the
texts
there
are
many
beautiful
and
colorful
pictures,
which
can
help
us
understand
English
better.
Even
the
students
who
used
to
dislike
English
have
turned
out
to
be
interested
in
the
subject.
However,
some
of
the
texts
have
too
many
new
words
and
expressions
which
are
hard
for
us.
Therefore,
I'd
like
to
suggest
changing
them
into
easier
ones.
