1. What does he look like 他长得什么样?
(1)“What does/do+主语+look like ”这个句型用来询问某人的外貌特征,意为“……看上去什么样 ”常用“主语+be+描述人物外貌特征的形容词”或“主语+have/has+名词(名词前可以有多个形容词修饰)”两种方式回答。
—What does your friend look like 你的朋友长得什么样
—He is short and thin.他矮并且瘦。
—What does Jerry look like 杰瑞长的什么样?
—He has short curly hair and is of medium build.他留着短卷发,中等体格。
(2)本句中的like为介词,意为“像;如同”,look为系动词,意为“看起来”。look like意为“看起来像……”,后接名词、代词作宾语。
Does she look like her mother 她长得像她母亲吗?
2. Do you know I have a new friend in Class Five 你知道我在五班有一位新朋友吗?
(1)这是一个含有宾语从句的一般疑问句,主句为Do you know,从句为I have a new friend in Class Five,句中省略了引导词that。Do you know…?意为“你知道……吗?”其后可接名词、代词或从句,如果其后接从句,从句中的语序应为陈述句语序。
Do you know your parents love you so much?你知道你父母很爱你吗?
(2)Class Five是由普通名词构成的专有名词,首字母要大写。在英语中,应先说名词,再说数词,意为汉语时先数词再名词。若有年级,要先写小范围(班级),再写大范围(年级)。
3. Xu Qian loves to tell jokes. 徐倩爱讲笑话。
(1)love为动词,意为“喜爱;热爱”,其后可接名词、代词、动词不定式或动名词作宾语。
I love my mother.我爱我的妈妈。
We love to dance.=We love dancing.我们爱跳舞。
(2)tell jokes意为“讲笑话”。tell意为“讲述,告诉”,其后常接故事、笑话等,也常用于tell sb(not)to do sth结构中,意为“告诉某人(不要)做某事”。
My mother often tells me not to play with fire.
我妈妈常告诉我不要玩火。
4. Do you remember Johnny Dean, the pop singer with funny glasses and long curly hair 你记得约翰尼·迪安,那个戴着滑稽的眼镜,留着卷曲长发的流行歌手吗?
(1)本句中的Johnny Dean和the pop singer指的是同一个人,the pop singer作Johnny Dean的同位语,起补充说明的作用。
Do you remember my English teacher , a beautiful woman?你还记得我的英语老师,一个美丽的女人吗?
(2)句中的with为介词,意为“戴着;有”。With funny glasses and long curly hair作后置定语。
He is a funny person with big glasses.他是一个带着大眼镜的有趣的人。
5.“I don’t think he’s so great,”says Ruth from New York.“But my mom does.” “我认为他不那么棒,”来自纽约的鲁思说。 “但是我妈妈认为他很棒。”
(1)本句中I don’t think he’s so great是含有否定转移的复合句。在否定I think后的宾语从句时,常发生否定转移,即否定主句,但not仍放在从句中翻译。
I don’t think the meeting will be put off. 我想会议不会延期举行。
(2)But my mom does.中的does代替上文中的动词,这是一种避免重复的用法。在英语中,常常用do, does或did代替上文的动词(短语)。
I don’t have long hair ,but my sister does。我没有长发,但我妹妹有。
五、语法技巧
一、询问某人的外貌特征
询问某人长什么样子,常用“what+助动词+sb look like?”回答常用“be+形容词”或“have+名词”。
What does your brother look like 你哥哥长得什么样?
He is tall and thin.他又高又瘦。
What does your aunt look like 你姑姑长得什么样?
She has short curly hair. 她留着短卷发。
二、多个形容词修饰一个名词的位置排列
当两个以上的形容词修饰一个名词时,形容词要按规定的顺序排列。当几个形容词一起修饰同一个名词的时候,形容词排列的先后顺序是:(1)冠词或形容词性物主代词;(2)数词;(3)描绘性形容词;(4)表示大小、长短的形容词;(5)表示性状的形容词;(6)表示老少、新旧的形容词;(7)表示颜色的形容词;(8)表示国籍、质地的形容词。
