五、阅读单选
The
story
I
would
like
to
tell
happened
about
a
year
ago.
I
accepted
a
position
in
a
company.
John,
who
I
knew,
told
me
much
about
the
job
and
took
my
curriculum
vitae
(简历)
to
his
manager.
I
did
not
see
him
as
a
friend
because
at
the
time
we
did
not
take
part
in
activities
together
outside
of
work,
nor
did
our
wives.
The
first
week
was
fine.
Nothing
was
clearly
strange
with
John
at
first
until
the
second
week,
when
our
communication
began
to
get
a
little
strange.
John
began
making
conversations
like
"you
would
have
had
to
pay
an
employment
agency(职业介绍所)several
hundred
dollars
for
a
job
like
this".
I
soon
forgot
his
words
till
the
next
day
when
he
made
another
similar
conversation.
Right
then
I
started
to
really
pay
attention
to
what
he
meant.
He
acted
as
if
I
owed
him
money
for
helping
me
to
get
the
job.
He
began
to
get
short
with
me
and
I
had
only
been
there
for
two
weeks.
He
should
train
me
in
building
our
e-mail
servers(服务器).
Instead,
he
went
through
the
process
so
fast
that
even
an
experienced
worker
could
hardly
keep
up.
He
would
not
slow
down
or
check
whether
I
was
with
him
or
not.
If
there
was
something
wrong
with
a
server,
he
would
just
deal
it
by
himself
and
not
stop
to
say
anything
like
"you
might
want
to
remember
this.
"
I
was
in
a
bad
mood
from
then
on.
By
the
third
week
I
began
to
get
tired
of
his
condescension
(傲慢).
So
I
began
to
challenge
him
in
a
way
that
was
only
one
to
one.
He
would
reply
to
a
question
of
mine
with
a
question
or
just
make
me
repeat
it,
and
then
cut
in
on
me.
I
began
to
hate
him.
Later
I
tried
to
avoid
him
as
much
as
I
could.
He
stopped
me
one
day
and
asked
me
what
had
happened.
I
told
him
he
was
very
condescending.
He
asked
me,
“What
can
I
do
so
that
you
will
not
feel
like
this
way
in
the
future?”
I
simply
asked
him
to
treat
me
with
the
same
respect
he
would
like
to
be
treated
with.
He
did
it
and
we
got
along
better
slowly.
I
believed
there
was
hope
and
finally
we
would
become
friends
and
now
we
are.

saying
the

good.

express
his

3.Which
of
the
following
is
TRUE
according
to
the
third
and
fourth
paragraphs?
A.John
was
an
experienced
and
hard-working
employee.
B.The

was
very
slow
in
learning
new
things.

hardly
lent
an
ear
to
what
the
writer
expressed.
D.The

slowly
got
used
to
his
work

On

The

dark.
All
the

in
the

stooped
for
a
moment,
and
then
everybody
started
talking
together.
“What’s
happened
to

“Ooh,
it’s
a

Some
people

One

replied
the

“Fortunately,

the

Once
again,
ladies
and
gentlemen,
I

My
father
said
to
me,
“Let’s

He
and
I
went
out
of
the
front

and
looked

down
the
street
Sure
enough,
it
was
in
total
darkness.
We
went
back
in
and
sat
at
the
table
with
my
mother.
Our
faces
were
lit
up
by
the
candlelight.
The
waiter
brought
our
meals
and
started
eating.
“You
know,
I
don’t
mind
this
at
all,”
said
Dad.
He
looked
around
at
the
restaurant.
It’s
quite
pretty!
And
I
feel
special—I’m
having
a
birthday
dinner
by
candlelight!
“You

on
the

side!”
said
Mum.
We
all
laughed.

the

fill
in
the
blanks
with
proper
words.(在短文的空格内填入适当的词,使其内容通顺,每空格限填一词,首字母已给。)
Eat
Less
Meat,
Please!
There
are
many
ways
to
save
the
Earth.
We
can
use
less
water,
plant
more
trees,
d__1_
less
and
bike
more.
Now,
some
scientists
have
put
forward
one
more
way
to
avoid
dangerous
climate
change—eat
less
meat.
Their
new
research
finds
farm
animals
like
caws
and
pigs
p__2__
much
more
greenhouse
gases
than
we
thought.
W__3__
action,
the
influence
will
become
far
worse
as
the
world
population
continues
to
grow.
And,
as
global
income
rises,
more
people
will
afford
and
eat
meat-rich
diets.
One
of
the
researchers
is
Johan
Rockstrom.
He
is
a
professor
from
Germany.
“Feeding
a
world
population
of
ten
billion
is
p__4__,
but
only
if
we
change
how
we
eat,”
the
scientist
said.
“Greening
food
production
creating
up
our
planet—this
is
what
is
on
the
menu
today.”
A
U.N.
report
also
warns
that
eating
less
meat
and
dairy
is
important.
The
current
trends,
however,
are
in
the
o__5___
direction.
Rockstrom
calculated
that
on
average
we
needed
to
eat
75
percent
less
beef,
90
percent
less
pork
and
half
the
number
of
eggs.
Education,
taxes
and
changes
to
school
and
workplace
menus
can
help
achieve
this
goal.
In
some
countries,
people
have
become
more
aware
of
the
importance
of
changing
their
diets.
In
the
Netherlands,
young
people
have
been
eating
less
meat.
“We
know
food
choices
are
very
personal.
That
behavior
change
can
be
difficult”
said
Rockstrom.
“But
the
evidence
is
how
clear.
We

八、回答问题
In
1871,
when
she
was
twelve
years
old,
Plorence
Kelley’s
father
took
her
to
a
Pennsylvania
glass
factory
to
show
her
the
wonders
of
America’s
factories.
When
she
went
inside,
she
saw
small
children
working
with
pots
full
of
acid
(酸).
Kelley
was
angry.
She
later
learned
that
there
were
over
one
million
children
working
in
hot,
crowded
and
unsafe
factories.
The
work
was
very
dangerous.
Every
year
tens
of
thousands
of
kids
died
or
were
seriously
hurt.
In
1889,
Kelley
knew
that
she
had
to
do
something.
She
wrote
a
book
called
Our
Tolling
Children.
Kelley
asked
people
not
to
buy
things
made
by
child
workers.
Kelley
started
giving
speeches
and
writing
reports.
Within
a
few
years,
she
became
famous.
Everyone
knew
her
as
the
leader
against
child
labor
(劳动力).
In
1893,
Kelley
fought
for
new
law
in
Illinois,
which
said
no
factories
could
employ
(雇佣)
child
workers
under
the
age
of
fourteen.
In
the
same
year,
a
new
job,
Chief
Factory
Inspector,
was
also
created,
and
Kelley
got
the
job
to
make
sure
everyone
followed
the
law.
However,
in
Kelley’s
second
year
as
Chief
Factory
Inspector,
something
had
happened.
Smallpox
(天花)
broke
out
in
Illinois.
Lots
of
people
died
of
it.
Kelley
knew
that
smallpox
was
passed
easily
from
one
person
to
another.
It
was
even
passed
by
clothing.
When
Kelley
knew
that
sick
people
were
still
making
clothes
and
giving
the
clothes
to
the
children
and
people
in
their
village,
she
then
visited
factory
after
factory.
Whenever
she
saw
sick
workers,
she

例文:
Besides
study,
I
also
pay
attention
to
the
environment
There
is
no
doubt
that
we
students
should
pay
more
attention
to
our
study.
However,
if
we
ignore
the
importance
of
the
environment,
we
will
have
many
difficulties
in
gaining
knowledge.
First
of
all,
when
there
is
too
much
noise,
we
will
not
be
able
to
concentrate
on
what
we
are
thinking
about
and
our
mind
will
be
greatly
disturbed.
What’s
more,
air
pollution
may
make
us
feel
sick.
As
a
result,
we
may
be
so
weak
that
we
will
have
neither
enough
energy
nor
a
clear
mind
to
learn
what
we
want.
Above
all,
we
should
try
to
take
immediate
methods
to
protect
the
environment
so
that
it
can
provide
us
with
a
better
environment
for
living
and
learning
as
well.
