第二部分阅读理解(共20小题:每小题2.5分,满分50分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
A
A blocked airway can kill someone in three to four minutes, but it can take more than eight minutes for an ambulance to arrive. So a simple procedure such as opening someone抯 airway can save their life while they抮e waiting for emergency medical help. This means you抮e more likely to give first aid to someone you know than a stranger.
There are many misconceptions surrounding first aid. Below are the "most popular" ones with details of what you should do.
Top four first aid misconceptions:
You should put butter or cream on a burn. The only thing you should put on a burn is cold water梜eep the butter for cooking. Put the affected area under cold running water for at least ten minutes
The best way to treat bleeding is to put the wound under a tap. If you put a bleeding wound under a tap, you wash away the body`s clotting agents(凝血剂)and make it bleed more. Instead, put pressure on the wound with whatever is available to stop or slow down the flow of blood. As soon as possible call 911. Keep pressure on the wound until help arrives.
Nosebleeds are best treated by putting the head back. If you put the head back during a nosebleed, all the blood goes down the back of the airway. Instead, advise them to tilt(倾斜)their head forwards and ask them to pinch(捏)the end of their nose and breathe through their mouth.
You need lots of training to do first aid. You don’t—what you mostly need is common sense. You can learn enough first aid knowledge in a few minutes to save someone`s life梬hether it`s from reading a book, attending a course or watching videos online.
Remember that anyone can save a life.
36. The most important point to save an airway blocked person抯 life is to________.
A. keep his airway open
B. ensure the ambulance抯 arriving time
C. keep the surroundings quiet
D. ask for emergency medical help immediately
37. If a person is burnt, what you should do immediately is________.
A. put some cream on the burn area
B. heat up some butter for the burn
C. place the burn under cold running water
D. wash the affected area for a long time
38. If a bleeding wound is put under a tap, what will happen?
A. It will help the bleeding stop at once.
B. The wound will help produce more clotting agents.
C. It will produce more pressure on the wound.
D. The wound will bleed more and it is hard to stop the bleeding.
39. Which of the following statements is RIGHT?
A. When a person抯 nose bleeds, please put the head back.
B. You can learn first aid quickly in different ways.
C. When a person is burnt, keep pressure on the burn until help arrives.
D. Not everyone can do first aid to save a life.
40. The passage mainly tells us________.

While flat bread has a history that dates back to ancient Egypt, real pizza梡izza with tomato sauce梬as invented in Naples, Italy. Legend holds that pizza margherita梖illed with tomato, cheese, and basil, in the red white and green of Italy抯 flag梬as first created by Naples Pizzeria Brandi to honor Queen Margherita of Italy during an 1886 visit.
Today of course, there are all kinds of pizza shapes, sizes and flavors around the world, but the original Neapolitan pizza is round, with a soft, thin center and thinker, crunchier sides. You should be able to fold it in four and eat it like a crepe. And that's the delicious treat that's now up for protection as an irreplaceable piece of global human heritage: This year, Italy is putting "the art of the Neopolitan pizza maker" on the list of candidates to become treasures of world heritage recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization
Universally recognizable, "pizza" happens to to the Italian language's best-known word, but that doesn't mean it's a shoo-in. "UNESCO has never listed a cultural tradition linked to food production," Peirluigi Petrillo, who prepared the documents to be discussed at UNESCO, told The Local.
The European Union included pizza in its official list of 揼uaranteed traditional specialities in 2016. The list specifies that any pizza called 揘eapolitan must be no more than 35 cm wide, with crust of up to 2 cm high, topped with canned tomatoes, cheese from Naples, Campania region, oil and basil. The pizza must be cooked in a wooden oven, and be elastic and soft.
Italy also says that it has more UNESCO-recognized cultural treasures than any other country. The final decision on whether pizza-making makes one more will be announced in 2022, after discussion with all 193 UN member-states.

As a saying goes, "Don`t use a lot where a little will do." I recently saw a reality show about helping change struggling restaurants. The premise(前提)is that an expert comes in to help save a family business, and in the process helps the owners rebuild their relationships and their lives. In the beginning, the expert suggested the family reduce their menu from multiple pages to just one. They originally created a massive list of selections because they assumed this created more value. But in many instances, less is more.
This is a big part of the philosophy behind the website桾iny Buddha. I publish one post from the community every day, which allows me to spend a great deal of time with writers. Traditional wisdom of the web suggests that more content leads to more page views, which eventually creates a successful site. Yet I抳e found the opposite is true.
Having a lower quantity allows more time to focus on quality, and also allows more time for connection through comments. In this way, it抯 not about building a large community; it抯 about developing and improving an engaged one. As far as I抦 concerned, there抯 no greater success than that. Regardless of your project or dream, the "less is more" philosophy can go a long way in creating value and enabling progress.
You may not have a large number of hours to commit, but this means you are encouraged to prioritize your goals, and that just may help you focus and become the most effective. You may not have abundant resources, but this means your passion and purpose may be your greatest possession, and there`s no limit to what you can accomplish when you invest yourself in a vision(构想)that moves and inspires you. You may not have countless readers or customers, but this means you can focus on providing excellent service, which can be far more valuable than dozens of cursory(粗略的)connections and standard experiences.
Most importantly, when we focus on doing less and doing it well, instead of doing more and assuming it better,we are less scattered(分散的), more deliberate, less harried, and more attentive. And really, isn’t that what we want? It`s not just the goals and the outcomes we imagine; it’s the happiness and satisfaction we imagine we抣l experience when we get there. It may be the biggest advantage to do less: we create more space to enjoy those things now.
46. Which word can take the place of the underlined word "multiple"?
A. Only. B. Little. C. Many. D. Thin.
47. We can learn from Paragraph 2 and 3 that_________.
A. the more content a website has, the more page views there will be
B. the more pages a website has, the better its quality will be
C. the less content a website has, the more time can be invested in quality
D. the "less is more" rule can apply to many aspects of making money
48. How does the author develop Paragraph 4?
A. By making lists. B. By making assumptions.
C. By making comparison. D. By analyzing reasons
49. What will we face when we focus on doing less?
A. Being less considerate B. Being more careless.
C. Being more harried D. Being more concentrative
50. What抯 the best title of the passage?
A. Tiny Wisdom: When Less Is Less
B. Tiny Wisdom: When More Is More
C. Tiny Wisdom: When Less Is More
D. Tiny Wisdom: When More Is Less
D
Latest research provides some good news for those who hope to someday live in a world where women coders and surgeons are as plentiful as their male workmates: Today s elementary school girls are actually more interested in pursuing a STEM(science, tech, engineering, math)career than their male classmates are.
What’s more, while young boys’ ideal jobs have stayed relatively unfluctuating over the past 20 years of the century, young girls’ career dreams have grown more ambitious. Back in 1998, a study found that 11-year-old boys were most interested in becoming an athlete, a service member, or an engineer. Now, a new survey of children 10 and younger found that boys` career dreams have stayed relatively stable. In this study, girls said they aspired(渴望)to be teachers, nurses and hairdressers.
Also notable: Overall, girls are more likely to say they are interested in a STEM job than their male workmates. Indeed, 41% of girls express interest in technical careers, vs. 32% of boys.
"Yet while girls’ increased interest in scientific careers is clearly something to celebrate, there is still progress to be made to make it a reality," said Simon Isaacs, a researcher. "We can celebrate the girls focus on STEM, but if we look at children aged 1 through 10 right now, we still have a long way to go with regard to getting girls involved in engineering, computer programming and other tech fields." Other recent studies have similarly found that despite their great interest in STEM careers, most American girls believe they are relatively unlikely to end up in a job that requires computer science or engineering skills simply because they don’t think these jobs belong to girls. "Even as we talk about being a generation that is growing up more gender-non-conformist(无性别意识的)than any other generation, we aren`t necessarily seeing that translate into what kids want to be," said Isaacs.
Isaacs said that he decided to pursue this research to better understand how today’s culture of role models—who are as diverse as Mark Zuckerberg and Malala Yousafzai梐re hugely shaping the next generation of students career ambitions.
"What we find at the elementary level is that kids are often basing their aspirations on whatever they抳e been exposed to in the media," said Tony Wagner, an expert. Wagner says that gender standards described in the media have begun to change, specifically with regard to female characters in medicine and science. Wagner has found that girls are more interested in careers that are described as having a direct human connection, like medicine and education. "What they don抰 understand is that much of engineering and other STEM work, is profoundly human-centered. The problem lies in how it抯 taught," he said.
51. According to the latest study________.
A. there will be more female engineers and doctors than males in the future
B. more girls show interest in having a job in STEM related areas than boys.
C. boys career choices have greatly changed compared with those of 20 years ago.
D. most girls would like to become teachers, nurses and hairdressers in the future.
52. The underlined word "unfluctuating" can be replaced by________.
A. necessary B. unchanging C. wider D. impossible
53. Simon Isaacs and other recent surveys tend to indicate that________.
A. more boys under 10 years old prefer STEM
B. there are more girls in tech fields than boys
C. girls who will really work on STEM are not as many as imagined
D. many boys can抰 end up with STEM careers, either
54. It can be inferred that________.
A. we can抰 see the change in careers between girls and boys
B. gender difference still exists in career tendency
C. there is no sex difference in career choices for kids
D. we can抰 expect that all children like STEM
55. What is the main influence on kids tendency of the career choice?
A. Social culture. B. School education.
C. Family influence. D. Economic development.
第Ⅱ卷(非选择题,共35分)
第一节阅读表达(共5小题:每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,并根据题目要求用英语回答问题。
Diana Rae of Tenino, Washington, demonstrates Virtua/(虚拟的)Urgent Care with Dr. Ben Green in Seattle, who consults with her via Skype.
Telemedicine is the name for when doctors give advice to patients by telephone or the Internet, or when health care providers in rural areas connect with specialists in big cities.
Telemedicine has existed for a long time, but the rise of smartphone, tablets and webcam-equipped computers is raising telemedicine to new levels. Some health care systems in the United States now offer Virtual Urgent Care, patients see a doctor by video chat without having to leave home.
Diana Rae recently demonstrated how Virtual Urgent Care works. She used an iPad tablet and Skype-the video chat service.
Doctor Green first has the patient describe her symptoms. Then the doctor performs a physical exam by demonstrating what he wants her to do. Doctor Green decides that the problem is an infection and gives her some penicillin for medicine. He says about 3 out of 4 patients who have health problems can be treated like this梩hrough Virtual Urgent Care, which means a video chat could substitute a visit to the doctor抯 office.
Franciscan charges $35 for this kind of virtual house call, that is much less than the cost of going to an emergency room, a doctor抯 office or an urgent care clinic. After trying the video conference, Diana Rae says she would be happy to pay the 35 dollars, when she was recently home with a bad cold. "I would have paid twice that for the convenience of getting taken care of without having to sit in a waiting room, wait, and get exposed to everyone else抯 germs." Rae said.
But a company official says state rules have not kept progress with development in telemedicine. The workers who provide Virtual Urgent Care must be licensed separately in each state where the company does business. For now, that means Franciscan doctors can treat patients in Washington state and California, for example, but not in neighboring Oregon or Idaho.
56. What is helping telemedicine to rise to new stages?(No more than 8 words)
57. What does the underlined word "substitute" mean?(1 word)
58. Why would Diana Rae be happy to pay Virtual Urgent Care even more?(No more than 10 words)

You don抰梬hat you mostly need is common sense.

While flat bread has a history that dates back to ancient Egypt, real pizza—pizza with tomato sauce—was invented in Naples, Italy. Legend holds that pizza margherita—filled with tomato, cheese, and basil, in the red white and green of Italy抯 flag梬as first created by Naples Pizzeria Brandi to honor Queen Margherita of Italy during an 1886 visit.

It`s not just the goals and the outcomes we imagine; it抯 the happiness and satisfaction we imagine we抣l experience when we get there. It may be the biggest advantage to do less: we create more space to enjoy those things now.
46. Which word can take the place of the underlined word "multiple"?
A. Only. B. Little. C. Many. D. Thin.
47. We can learn from Paragraph 2 and 3 that_________.
A. the more content a website has, the more page views there will be
B. the more pages a website has, the better its quality will be
C. the less content a website has, the more time can be invested in quality
D. the "less is more" rule can apply to many aspects of making money
48. How does the author develop Paragraph 4?
A. By making lists. B. By making assumptions.
C. By making comparison. D. By analyzing reasons
49. What will we face when we focus on doing less?
A. Being less considerate B. Being more careless.
C. Being more harried D. Being more concentrative
50. What抯 the best title of the passage?
A. Tiny Wisdom: When Less Is Less
B. Tiny Wisdom: When More Is More

Latest research provides some good news for those who hope to someday live in a world where women coders and surgeons are as plentiful as their male workmates: Today s elementary school girls are actually more interested in pursuing a STEM(science, tech, engineering, math)career than their male classmates are.
What’s more, while young boys’ ideal jobs have stayed relatively unfluctuating over the past 20 years of the century, young girls career dreams have grown more ambitious.

【答案】51. B 52. B 53. C 54. B 55. A
第Ⅱ卷(非选择题,共35分)
59. Why can’t Virtual Urgent Care develop fast now?(No more than 10 words)
60. What do you think of Virtual Urgent Care’s future? Why?(No more than 20 words)
【答案】56. The rise of smartphones, tablets and webcam-equipped computers

60. I think it will have a bright future/ It will develop and become very popular because it is convenient and safe and charge/price is reasonable.
