From
this
issue,
we
explore
why
the

Extraterrestrial
Intelligence
(SETI)
Institute
hasn't
turned
up
anything
since
its
founding
in
the
1980s.

We
asked
our
Facebook
followers:
Do
you
think
that
astronomers
will
find
evidence
of
alien
life
in
your
lifetime?
Loran
McCormick:
1
think
they
already
have
it.
Judging
by
the
sudden
industrialization,
I
figure
they
found
something
that's
probably
been
here
since
before
humans
walked
the
Earth.
Jens
Avery:
We
may
find
life,
but
it
may
not
want
anything
to
do
with
us.
We
are
not
very
advanced
and
can't
even
get
along
with
each
other.
Steven
Buhrow:
I
think
the
more
important
question
is

will
any
government
ever
publicly
admit
it
in
our
lifetime?
I
fully
believe
that
we
could
discover
alien
life
today
and
the
government
would
simply
say
the
public
is
not
ready
for
this
information.
Jenna
Walsh:
I
think
we
already
see
it,
but
just
don't
realize
what
it
is.
Intelligent
alien
life
probably
doesn't
want
anything
to
do
with
the
disaster
that
is
Earth
at
this
point,
so
no
doubt
they're
playing
it
safe
and
observing
from
a
safe
distance.
Christopher
Harvey:
By
alien
life,
do
you
mean
intelligent
alien
life?
Then
no.
It
would
be
extremely
hard
to
find,
short
of
them
coming
down
to
Earth.
But
if
you
mean
unintelligent
alien
life,
like
bacteria
or
single
cell,
we
might.
1.
Why
did
we
ask
the
Facebook

the

A.
To

the
efficiency
of
SETI.
B.
To
confirm
the
appearance
of
aliens
on
earth.
C.
To
ensure
the
existence
of
aliens.
D.
To
complain
about
the
failure
to
find
aliens.
2.
Who
doubts
the
ever
visits
of
aliens
to
the
earth?
A.
Loran
McCormick.
B.
Steven
Buhrow.
C.
Jenna
Walsh.
D.
Christopher
Harvey.
3.
Where
does
this

A.
An

C
No
one
ever
said
science
education
was
easy.
Certainly
the
concepts
we
teach,
like
conservation
of
momentum
(动量守恒)
or
quantum
mechanics
(量子力学),can
be
hard
to
grasp.
But
what
really
makes
our
reaching
complicated
is
that
we're
also
trying
to
teach
a
deeper
lesson
at
the
same
time

to
help
students
understand
the
nature
of
science
itself.
All
too
often,
young
people
get
the
impression
that
science
is
about
learning
certain
"laws"
and
then
applying
them
to
different
situations.
After
all,
that's
what
we
make
them
do
on
tests,
to
show
that
they've
been
doing
the
work.
But
that's
not
it
at
all.
Science
is
the
process
of
building
these
concepts
through
the
collection
of
experimental
evidence.
And
while
I'm
on
it
let's
call
these
concepts
what
they
really
are

not
laws,
but
models.
Science
is
all
about
building
and
testing
models.
It's
difficult
to
help
students
understand
that
aspect
of
science
when
we
just
give
them
the
models
to
begin
with.
Sure,
in
physics
we
often
include
historical
or
mathematical
evidence
to
support
big
ideas,
but
that
often
isn't
enough.
Of
course,
we
can't
start
from
scratch.
If
students
had
to
build
their
own
models
from
the
ground
up,
it
would
be
like
trying
to
learn
programming
by
inventing
computers.
As
Isaac
Newton
is
supposed
to
have
said,
we
stand
on
the
shoulders
of
giants.
We
must
take
models
built
by
others
and
go
from
there.
What
I'd
like
to
suggest
is
that
this
actually
provides
a
great
way
into
the
adventure
of
science
and
an
opportunity
to
meet
our
objectives
as
educators.
If
you
can
create
a
situation
that
challenges
students'
assumptions
and
produces
conceptual
conflict,
that's
a
great
opportunity
for
learning.
8.
What
is
the
misunderstanding
of
teaching
science?
A.
It's
complicated.
B.
It
focuses
on
the
nature
of
science.
C.
It's
very
difficult.
D.
It
lies
in
teaching
and
testing
“laws”.
9.
Which
way
to
teach
science
is
highly
recommended
by
the
author?
A.
Encouraging
students
to
always
start
from
scratch.
B.
Providing
students
with
some
models
to
follow
suit.
C.
Guiding
students
to
begin
with
models
built
by
others.
D.
Offering
students
proof
to
support
important
concepts.
10.
The
author
cites
Isaac
Newton's
words
to
.
A.
justify
the
experiment
B.
praise
the
statement
C.
show
the
achievement
D.
support
the
argument
11.
What
is
the
best
title
of
the
passage?
A.
Science
teaching
B.
Concept
building
C.
Science
learning
D.
Concept
conflicting
【答案】8.
D
9.
C
10.
D
11.
A
【解析】
【分析】这是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述了科学的定义和科学教学,并进行了理性思辨与阐发。
【8题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段“All
too
often,
young
people
get
the
impression
that
science
is
about
learning
certain
"laws"
and
then
applying
them
to
different
situations.
(年轻人时常认为科学是学习特定的“法则”,并将它们应用至不同的情境下)”及“But
that's
not
it
at
all.(但并不是)”可知,年轻人有这样一种认知误区,教科学就是教法则和验证法则,故选D项。
【9题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段“We
must
take
models
built
by
others
and
go
from
there.(我们必须借鉴前人已经建立的模型并且从他们那里开始)”可知,作者认为让学生自己创建模型是件很难的事情,借鉴前人已经建立的模型让学生一步步接触、学习并效仿才是最好的方法。故选C项。
【10题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段“Of
course,
we
can't
start
from
scratch.(我们当然不能从头开始)”及“We
must
take
models
built
by
others
and
go
from
there.(我们必须借鉴前人已经建立的模型并且从他们那里开始)”可知,作者反对让学生平地筑高楼的方法,认为难度过大。而作者认为最好的方式是借鉴前人,从前人的经验出发进行科研。牛顿的话意思是:我们站在巨人的肩膀上,即我们拥有很多可以参考的前人的经验和结论、理论模型能够用来借鉴。由此可知,作者引用牛顿的话是为了佐证自己的观点。故选D项。
【11题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第一段“No
one
ever
said
science
education
was
easy.(没人曾说过科学教育是简单的)”可知,文章从第一段就引入“科学教学”。后文又讲述了在科学教学方面的种种,进行了理性思辨与阐发。故选A项。
D
Each
day,
10-year-old
Seth
asked
his
mom
for
more
and
more
lunch
money.
Yet
he
seemed
skinnier
than
ever
and
came
home
from
school
hungry.
It
turned
out
that
Seth
was
handing
his
lunch
money
to
fifth-grader,
who
was
threatening
to
beat
him
up
if
he
didn’t
pay.
Most
kids
have
been
teased
by
a
brother
or
a
friend
at
some
point.
And
it’s
not
usually
harmful
when
done
in
a
playful
and
friendly
way,
and
both
kids
find
it
funny.
But
when
teasing
becomes
hurtful,
unkind,
and
constant,
it
crosses
the
line
into
bullying
and
needs
to
stop.
Bullying
is
intentional
tormenting(折磨)in
physical
or
psychological
ways.
It
can
range
from
hitting,
name-calling,
threats,
and
mocking
(嘲弄)
to
blackmailing
money
and
possessions.
Some
kids
bully
others
by
deliberately
separating
them
and
spreading
rumors
about
them.
Others
use
social
media
or
electronic
messaging
to
tease
others
or
hurt
their
feelings.
It’s
important
to
take
bullying
seriously
and
not
just
brush
it
off
as
something
that
kids
have
to
tolerate.
The
effects
can
be
serious
and
affect
kids’
sense
of
safety
and
self-worth.
In
severe
cases,
bullying
has
contributed
to
tragedies,
such
as
suicides
and
school
shootings.
Kids
bully
for
a
variety
of
reasons.
Sometimes
they
pick
on
kids
because
they
need
a
victim—someone
who
seems
emotionally
or
physically
weaker,
or
just
acts
or
appears
different
in
some
way—to
feel

【解析】
【分析】本文是说明文。
文章说明了现在的校园欺凌问题对孩子造成的伤害,以及孩子的欺凌行为产生的原因。
【12题详解】
推理判断题。文章第一段中讲到10岁的赛斯每天向妈妈要午餐钱给一个五年级的学生;第一段最后提到
“…fifth-grader
who
was
threatening
to
beat
him
up
if
he
didn’t
pay”,那个五年级的学生威胁说如果他不给钱就揍他;第二段中提到“when
teasing
becomes
hurtful,
unkind,
and
constant,
it
crosses
the
line
into
bullying
and
needs
to
stop.(当取笑变得伤人、不友好和持续时,就越过了界限,变成了恃强凌弱,需要制止。)”由此可以推断,作者讲述Seth的故事的目的是为了引出下文关于校园欺凌的话题。故选A。
【13题详解】
词句猜测题。划线词前提到“It’s
important
to
take
bullying
seriously(认真对待校园欺凌行为很重要)”,not
just意思为“不仅仅,不只是”;划线词后提到“The
effects
can
be
serious
and
affect
kids’
sense
of
safety
and
self-worth.
In
severe
cases,
bullying
has
contributed
to
tragedies,
such
as
suicides
and
school
shootings.(这种影响很严重,会影响孩子的安全感和自我价值感。在严重的情况下,恃强凌弱已经造成了悲剧,如自杀和校园枪击。)”,是说明校园欺凌的严重后果。由此可知,作者认为应该认真对待校园欺凌,不应该将它看成是孩子必须忍受的事情而不管它。由此可以猜测,“brush
it
off”
意思为“置之不理”。故选B。
【14题详解】
细节理解题。文章第六段中提到“Sometimes
kids
torment
others
because
that’s
the
way
they’ve
been
treated.
They
may
think
their
behavior
is
normal
because
they
come
from
families
or
other
settings
where
everyone
regularly
gets
angry
and
shouts
or
calls
each
other
names.(有时候孩子们会折磨别人,因为他们就是这样被对待的。他们可能认为他们的行为是正常的,因为他们来自的家庭或环境中,每个人都经常生气,大喊大叫或互相辱骂。)”由此可知,校园欺凌存在的原因可能是因为恃强凌弱者从他们的原生家庭中学到这种行为,他们认为这种行为是正常的。故选C。
【15题详解】
推理判断题。文章最后一段中提到“Unless
your
child
tells
you
about
bullying—or
has
visible
injuries—it
can
be
difficult
to
figure
out
if
it’s
happening.(除非你的孩子告诉你他被欺负了,或者身上有明显的伤痕,否则很难判断它(欺凌)是否真的发生了。)”由此可以推断,在接下来的段落中应该要表达可以从哪些迹象判断孩子是否遭到欺凌。故选A。

【解析】
【分析】本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了普遍存在的健忘现象,并对如何对抗健忘提出几个办法。
【16题详解】
根据前文“Do
you
ever
walk
out
of
a
room
with
an
idea
in
your
head,
only
to
discover
moments
later
that
it’s
gone?
1f
so,
don’t
worry:
it’s
a
very
common
experience.”(你有没有过这样的经历:脑子里带着想法走出房间,片刻之后却不记得了?如果是的话,别担心:这是很常见的经历)和下文“The
problem
is
often
caused
by
"event
boundaries".”(这个问题通常是由“事件边界”引起的)可知,这里主要是解释健忘的原因,分析选项,E项(
科学家们相信我们可以解释和接近它)承前启后,符合语境逻辑,选项中的it指代的就是前面的a
very
common
experience,故选E。
【17题详解】
根据空前句“The
problem
is
often
caused
by
"event
boundaries"”(这个问题通常是由“事件边界”引起的)和后一句“They
make
you
believe
that
a
particular
mental
task
is
over.
”(它们让你相信一项特定的智力任务已经结束)可判断,选项D(这些就是你的记忆用来停止记忆的东西)衔接前后文符合语境,其中These和后一句中的They都指代前文"event
boundaries",故选D。
【18题详解】
根据空前句“Tests
have
proved
that
we’re
much
more
forgetful
when
we
move
from
one
location
to
another.”(实验证明,当我们从一个地方移到另一个地方时,我们会变得更健忘)结合空后“It's
because
anything
that
seems
like
the
end
of
a
task

closing
a
study
book,
finishing
a
phone
call,
taking
a
cake
out
of
the
oven

can
have
the
same
effect.”(这是因为任何看起来像是任务结束的事情——合上一本学习用书,打完一通电话,从烤箱里拿出一块蛋糕——都会产生同样的效果。)可知,选项F(但当我们从一个活动转向另一个活动时,同样的情况也会发生)与前文构成转折关系,the
same指代前文中we’re
much
more
forgetful,后文是其原因,符合该段语境逻辑。故选F。
【19题详解】
上一段最后“Within
seconds,
much
information
in
your
mind
has
disappeared.”(几秒钟之内,你脑海中的许多信息就消失了)讲了人们的健忘现象,设空处是段落首句。根据后文“First,
stop
telling
your
brain
that...Second,
create
clues
to
carry
with
you...”可知,该段提出了对抗健忘的方法,选项A(但下面是如何反击的方法)作为主题句衔接后文符合语境,故选A。
【20题详解】
根据空前一句“We
actually
know
memory
depends
on
imagery.”(我们知道记忆依赖于想象)可知选项B(所以想象一下你想保留的细节)符合此处语境,选项中的picture与depends
on
imagery有内在联系,故选B。

for
their
guns”可知,孩子们手中是有枪的,所以这里应该是发生了枪击案,用shooting来表示。故选C。

Surprisingly惊人地;B.
Originally最初;C.
Accidentally意外地;D.

第二节
(满分20分)
57.
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Jonah
would
never
forget
how
he
managed
to
overcome
his
shyness
and
make
new
friends
all
because
of
the
timely
advice
he
had
followed
a
month
ago.
He
remembered
that
day
clearly.
The
bell
for
the
break
resounded
through
the
corridors
at
Glendale
School.
Instead
of
heading
to
the
canteen
like
the
other
children
did,
Jonah
fled
to
the
library.
He
pushed
open
the
door
and
headed
for
the
nearest
bookshelf.
Other
than
the
noise
of
the
air-conditioner,
the
library
was
quiet
and
there
was
barely
a
soul
in
sight.
Far
in
a
comer,
he
spotted
the
librarian,
who
seemed
too
busy
shelving
some
books
to
pay
any
attention
to
him.
The
windows
to
the
library
looked
out
to
the
canteen.
Jonah
could
hear
children
laughing
and
chatting.
He
wished
he
was
outside
playing
with
some
friends
but
he
did
not
let
this
bother
him.
Suddenly,
Jonah
heard
a
sound
in
the
corner.
He
turned
around
and
saw
the
librarian
walking
towards
him.
“Hi,
I’m
Mrs.
Lim.”
she
greeted
him
with
a
smile.
“Um...hi,
I’m
Jonah,”
Jonah
said,
his
face
flushed
red
with
embarrassment.
“Why
are
you
reading
here
when
you
could
be
playing
with
your
friends
instead?”
“Uh...”
Jonah
looked
around
the
library,
avoiding
her
gaze.
He
did
not
want
Mrs
Lim
to
know
the
real
reason
he
was
in
the
library.
She
had
the
same
look
in
her
eyes
as
Jonah’s
father
during
the
quiet
car
rides
home
from
school.
Jonah
was
helplessly
tight-lipped
whenever
his
father
asked
whom
he
had
played
or
eaten
with
at
school.
From
his
silence,
Jonah’s
father
knew
he
was
lonely.
It
was
not
that
Jonah
did
not
have
any
friends.
They
all
just
happened
to
live
really
far
away.
Jonah
would
stay
up
late
at
night
chatting
on
the
computer
with
his
old
friends
from
his
previous
school.
Somehow,
it
made
him
feel
close
to
them
despite
the
distance.
Tasered
to
this
new
school,
Jonah
found
it
difficult
to
make
new
friends.
Everyone
seemed
to
have
different
interests
and
their
own
circle
of
friends.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
“I
know
how
you

Mrs.

said
gently,
as

she

Jonah’s
mind.

【答案】
“I
know
how
you
feel.”
Mrs.
Lim
said
gently,
as
if
she
could
read
Jonah’s
mind.
Jonah
was
surprised
as
he
had
not
expected
a
total
stranger
to
sense
his
loneliness.
Mrs.
Lim
added,
“I
can
see
it
in
your
face.
You
look
lonely.”
Jonah
sighed,
not
knowing
what
to
do
next.
“Just
say
hello
to
someone
today,”
she
encouraged,
“I
promise
they’ll
respond.
Once
you’ve
made
the
first
move,
it
just
gets
easier.”
Mrs.
Lim
obviously
did
not
understand
how
challenging
that
was
going
to
be
for
him,
Jonah
thought.
But
still
he
appreciated
the
advice
and
thanked
her
before
making
his
way
out
of
the
library.
In
the
hallway

a

Jonah’s
class
was
picking
up
something
on
the
floor.
Pens,
pencils,
and
highlighters
had
dropped
out
of
his
pencil
case.
Fighting
the
urge
to
just
walk
away,
Jonah
leaned
down
and
picked
up
a
few
pens.
Then,
he
remembered
what
Mrs.
Lim
had
advised
him.
“Hello,
I’m

Let
me
help
you,”
he
offered.
The
boy
looked
up
at
him.
“Thank
you.
My
name
is
Ruben.”

last,
Jonah
thought,

of
himself.

【分析】本文以人物为线索展开,讲述了Jonah是个害羞的孩子,这天他一个人躲到了图书馆里去了,遇到了图书管理员Lim太太,她问为什么Jonah不出去和其他孩子玩耍,他却不想让Lim太太知道他在图书馆的真正原因。最后,Jonah在Lim太太的鼓励下,第一次和别人打了招呼。
【详解】1.段落续写:
①由第一段首句内容“‘我知道你的感受’Lim太太温和地说,好像她能读懂Jonah的心思似的。”可知,第一段可描写Lim太太是如何鼓励Jonah通过和别人打招呼迈出第一步的。

Kunsang
Darje,
a
railway

worker
in
Nagchu,
said
that
apart
from
maintaining
the
railway
and
highway,
he
also
collects
trash

responsibility
there,"
he
said.

C.
Tibet's
rural
residents
can
get
annual
training
D.
Tibet's
rural
residents
can
earn
extra
money
7.
What
can
be
inferred
from
Kunsang
Darje's
words?
A.
He
asks
his
colleagues
not
to
litter
everywhere.
B.
He
attaches
importance
to
raise
animals

railway
and
highway

C
No
one
ever
said
science
education
was
easy.
Certainly
the
concepts
we
teach,
like
conservation
of
momentum
(动量守恒)
or
quantum
mechanics
(量子力学),can
be
hard
to
grasp.
But
what
really
makes
our
reaching
complicated
is
that
we're
also
trying
to
teach
a
deeper
lesson
at
the
same
time

to
help
students
understand
the
nature
of
science
itself.
All
too
often,
young
people
get
the
impression
that
science
is
about
learning
certain
"laws"
and
then
applying
them
to
different
situations.
After
all,
that's
what
we
make
them
do
on
tests,
to
show
that
they've
been
doing
the
work.
But
that's
not
it
at
all.
Science
is
the
process
of
building
these
concepts
through
the
collection
of
experimental
evidence.
And
while
I'm
on
it
let's
call
these
concepts
what
they
really
are

not
laws,
but
models.
Science
is
all
about
building
and
testing
models.
It's
difficult
to
help
students
understand
that
aspect
of
science
when
we
just
give
them
the
models
to
begin
with.
Sure,
in
physics
we
often
include
historical
or
mathematical
evidence
to
support
big
ideas,
but
that
often
isn't
enough.
Of
course,
we
can't
start
from
scratch.
If
students
had
to
build
their
own
models
from
the
ground
up,
it
would
be
like
trying
to
learn
programming
by
inventing
computers.
As
Isaac
Newton
is
supposed
to
have
said,
we
stand
on
the
shoulders
of
giants.
We
must
take
models
built
by
others
and
go
from
there.
What
I'd
like
to
suggest
is
that
this
actually
provides
a
great
way
into
the
adventure
of
science
and
an
opportunity
to
meet
our
objectives
as
educators.
If
you
can
create
a
situation
that
challenges
students'
assumptions
and
produces
conceptual
conflict,
that's
a
great
opportunity
for
learning.
8.
What
is
the
misunderstanding
of
teaching
science?
A.
It's
complicated.
B.
It
focuses
on
the
nature
of
science.
C.
It's
very
difficult.
D.
It
lies
in
teaching
and
testing
“laws”.
9.
Which
way
to
teach
science
is
highly
recommended
by
the
author?
A.
Encouraging
students
to
always
start
from
scratch.
B.
Providing
students
with
some
models
to
follow
suit.
C.
Guiding
students
to
begin
with
models
built
by
others.
D.
Offering
students
proof
to
support
important
concepts.
10.
The
author
cites
Isaac
Newton's
words
to
.
A
justify
the
experiment
B.
praise
the
statement
C.
show
the
achievement
D.
support
the
argument
11.
What
is
the
best
title
of
the
passage?
A.
Science
teaching
B.
Concept
building
C.
Science
learning
D.
Concept
conflicting
D
Each
day,
10-year-old
Seth
asked
his
mom
for
more
and
more
lunch
money.
Yet
he
seemed
skinnier
than
ever
and
came
home
from
school
hungry.
It
turned
out
that
Seth
was
handing
his
lunch
money
to
fifth-grader,
who
was
threatening
to
beat
him
up
if
he
didn’t
pay.
Most
kids
have
been
teased
by
a
brother
or
a
friend
at
some
point.
And
it’s
not
usually
harmful
when
done
in
a
playful
and
friendly
way,
and
both
kids
find
it
funny.
But
when
teasing
becomes
hurtful,
unkind,
and
constant,
it
crosses
the
line
into
bullying
and
needs
to
stop.
Bullying
is
intentional
tormenting(折磨)in
physical
or
psychological
ways.
It
can
range
from
hitting,
name-calling,
threats,
and
mocking
(嘲弄)
to
blackmailing
money
and
possessions.
Some
kids
bully
others
by
deliberately
separating
them
and
spreading
rumors
about
them.
Others
use
social
media
or
electronic
messaging
to
tease
others
or
hurt
their
feelings.
It’s
important
to
take
bullying
seriously
and
not
just
brush
it
off
as
something
that
kids
have
to
tolerate.
The
effects
can
be
serious
and
affect
kids’
sense
of
safety
and
self-worth.
In
severe
cases,
bullying
has
contributed
to
tragedies,
such
as
suicides
and
school
shootings.
Kids
bully
for
a
variety
of
reasons.
Sometimes
they
pick
on
kids
because
they
need
a
victim—someone
who
seems
emotionally
or
physically
weaker,
or
just
acts
or
appears
different
in
some
way—to
feel
more
important,
popular,
or
in
control.
Although
some
bullies
are
bigger
or
stronger
than
their
victims,
that’s
not
always
the
case.
Sometimes
kids
torment
others
because
that’s
the
way
they’ve
been
treated.
They
may
think
their
behavior
is
normal
because
they
come
from
families
or
other
settings
where
everyone
regularly
gets
angry
and
shouts
or
calls
each
other
names.
Some
popular
TV
shows
even
seem
to
promote
meanness—people
are
“voted
off”,
ignored,
or
ridiculed
for
their
appearance
or
lack
of
talent.
Unless
your
child
tells
you
about
bullying—or
has
visible
injuries—it
can
be
difficult
to
figure
out
if
it’s
happening.
12.
What
is
the
author’s
purpose
of
telling
Seth’s
story?
A.
To
introduce
the
topic.
B.
To
raise
public
concern.
C.
To
analyse
the
cause.
D.
To
display
harmful
effects.
13
The
phrase
“brush
it
off”
in
paragraph
4
means
________.
A.
removing
bullying
B.
ignoring
bullying
C.
avoiding
bullying
D.
stressing
bullying
14.
Why
does
bullying
exist
in
schools?
A.
Bullies
consider
school
bullying
interesting
and
rewarding.
B.
Bullies
want
to
dominate
everyone
physically
and
mentally.
C.
Bullies
have
taken
the
behavior
from
their
original
families.
D.
Bullies
are
intentionally
taught
by
some
popular
TV
shows.
15.
What
is
predicted
to
convey
in
the
following
session
of
the
passage?
A.
Signs
of
bullying.
B.
Love
for
kids.
C.
Problems
of
bullying.
D.
Advice
for
kids.

Do
you
ever
walk
out
of
a
room
with
an
idea
in
your
head,
only
to
discover
moments
later
that
it's
gone?
1f
so,
don't
worry:
it's
a
very
common
experience.
___16___
The
problem
is
often
caused
by
"event
boundaries".
___17___They
make
you
believe
that
a
particular
mental
task
is
over.
Tests
have
proved
that
we're
much
more
forgetful
when
we
move
from
one
location
to
another.___18___It's
because
anything
that
seems
like
the
end
of
a
task

closing
a
study
book,
finishing
a
phone
call,
taking
a
cake
out
of
the
oven

can
have
the
same
effect.
Within
seconds,
much
information
in
your
mind
has
disappeared.
___19___First,
stop
telling
your
brain
that
its
work
is
done.
This
can
be
as
simple
as
leaving
a
book
open
instead
of
putting
it
back
on
the
shelf.
Second,
create
clues
to
carry
with
you
across
any
unavoidable
event
boundary.
Notice
when
these
end-points
are
coming
up,
and
spend
a
moment
improving
your
memory.
If
possible,
say
the
key
points
out
loud:
the
job
you're
walking
off
to
do
in
the
next
room,
for
example,
or
the
plans
you've
just
made
on
the
phone.
We
actually
know
memory
depends
on
imagery.
___20___
Every
day
you're
faced
with
event
boundaries
that
may
restrict
your
recall.
But
by
avoiding
them
when
you
can,
and
disguising
them
when
you
can’t,
you'll
find
that
much
less
of
your
learning
gets
lost.
A.
But
here's
how
to
fight
back.
B.
So
picture
the
details
you
want
to
keep.
C.
Many
of
us
don't
know
how
to
deal
with
it
properly.
D
These
are
what
your
memory
uses
to
stop
remembering.
E.
And
scientists
believe
that
we
can
explain
and
approach
it.
F.
But
the
same
happens
when
we
go
from
one
activity
to
another,
too.
G.
And
only
in
this
way
can
we
overcome
event
boundaries
successfully.

Jonah
would
never
forget
how
he
managed
to
overcome
his
shyness
and
make
new
friends
all
because
of
the
timely
advice
he
had
followed
a
month
ago.
He
remembered
that
day
clearly.
The
bell
for
the
break
resounded
through
the
corridors
at
Glendale
School.
Instead
of
heading
to
the
canteen
like
the
other
children
did,
Jonah
fled
to
the
library.
He
pushed
open
the
door
and
headed
for
the
nearest
bookshelf.
Other
than
the
noise
of
the
air-conditioner,
the
library
was
quiet
and
there
was
barely
a
soul
in
sight.
Far
in
a
comer,
he
spotted
the
librarian,
who
seemed
too
busy
shelving
some
books
to
pay
any
attention
to
him.
The
windows
to
the
library
looked
out
to
the
canteen.
Jonah
could
hear
children
laughing
and
chatting.
He
wished
he
was
outside
playing
with
some
friends
but
he
did
not
let
this
bother
him.
Suddenly,
Jonah
heard
a
sound
in
the
corner.
He
turned
around
and
saw
the
librarian
walking
towards
him.
“Hi,
I’m
Mrs.
Lim.”
she
greeted
him
with
a
smile.
“Um...hi,
I’m
Jonah,”
Jonah
said,
his
face
flushed
red
with
embarrassment.
“Why
are
you
reading
here
when
you
could
be
playing
with
your
friends
instead?”
“Uh...”
Jonah
looked
around
the
library,
avoiding
her
gaze.
He
did
not
want
Mrs
Lim
to
know
the
real
reason
he
was
in
the
library.
She
had
the
same
look
in
her
eyes
as
Jonah’s
father
during
the
quiet
car
rides
home
from
school.
Jonah
was
helplessly
tight-lipped
whenever
his
father
asked
whom
he
had
played
or
eaten
with
at
school.
From
his
silence,
Jonah’s
father
knew
he
was
lonely.
It
was
not
that
Jonah
did
not
have
any
friends.
They
all
just
happened
to
live
really
far
away.
Jonah
would
stay
up
late
at
night
chatting
on
the
computer
with
his
old
friends
from
his
previous
school.
Somehow,
it
made
him
feel
close
to
them
despite
the
distance.
Tasered
to
this
new
school,
Jonah
found
it
difficult
to
make
new
friends.
Everyone
seemed
to
have
different
interests
and
their
own
circle
of
friends.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
“I
know
how
you
feel,”
Mrs.
Lim
said
gently,
as
if
she
could
read
Jonah’s
mind.

In
the
hallway
outside
the
library,
a
boy
from
Jonah’s
class
was
picking
up
something
on
the
floor.
