(一)
In
Los
Angeles,
a
waiter
served
a
group
of
teens.
The
waiter
remembered
his
experience
as
a
young
high
school
student.
So
he
wanted
to
make
sure
the
teens
had
a
pleasant
experience
at
the
restaurant.
And
he
made
sure
of
it.
After
serving
all
the
teens
doing
a
great
job,
he
was
left
a
tip(小费),
only
$3.28.
That
was
hardly
enough
to
buy
a
drink
at
Starbucks.
The
waiter
went
home.
And
he
felt
hatred
for
the
students
who
did
not
know
the
value
of
hard
work.
They
looked
down
on
people
like
him.
Or
so
he
thought.
After
several
days,
the
waiter
forgot
about
it.
His
life
went
on
as
usual.
But
ten
days
later,
he
received
a
letter
from
the
teens.
“About
a
week
and
a
half
ago,
on
October
7,
my
three
friends
and
I
came
to
eat
at
this
restaurant
as
our
own
homecoming
celebration.
It
was
an
exciting
experience
for
us
to
be
here
alone,
and
it
was
all
new
to
us.
And
you
were
the
best
waiter
we
could
ask
for.
You
were
kind,
helpful,
and
didn’t
treat
us
like
babies!
So
I
want
to
say
thank
you
for
making
our
‘grown-up’
experience
so
amazing
and
fun.
“I
would
also
like
to
say
sorry.
Since
we
were
new
to
all
of
this,
our
13-year-old
minds
didn’t
exactly
know
how
to
deal
with
the
bill.
The
bill
was
reasonable(合乎情理),
but
we
had
completely
forgotten
(and
didn’t
know,
to
be
honest)
what
a
tip
even
was,
let
alone
how
much
to
give.
So
we
emptied
our
pockets,
and
all
our
money
added
up
to
$3.28.
“Having
no
idea
of
how
small
this
really
was,
we
left.
Later,
we
realized
our
mistake
and
felt
terrible.
We
knew
we
had
to
make
it
right.
“So
together
with
this
letter,
you
will
find
the
correct
18%
tip
+
extra
for
simply
being
amazing.
Thank
you
for
your
help
and
patience
and
also
thank
you
for
making
our
night
fun.
Thank
you!”

tip
should
be
that
much.
3.
What

the
teens
write
the
letter?
A.
The
sorry
they
felt
for
the
waiter.
B.
The
way
the

for
it
C.
do
something
to
make

the
matter
As
is
often
the
case,
parents
are
very
shocked
to
discover
their
children
have
lied
to
them
for
the
first
time.
But
new
research
has
suggested
many
parents
may
not
even
notice
many
of
the
lies
their
children
tell
them.
Psychologists
have
discovered
that
most
parents
are
over-confident
in
their
children’s
honesty
and
this
may?impair?their
ability
to
discover
a
lie.
The
findings
may
help
to
explain
why
some
parents
seem
to
be
willing
to
let
their
children
get
away
with
almost
anything
even
in
the
face
of
the
evidence(迹象).
They
say
parents
suffer
from
a
“truth
bias(偏见)”
with
their
own
teenagers,
but
when
faced
with
lies
from
other
people’s
children,
they
have
less
difficulty
telling
if
a
statement
is
true
or
not.
Dr.
Angela
Evans,
a
psychologist
at
Brock
University
in
Canada,
said,
“The
close
relationship
that
parents
share
with
their
own
children
may
lead
to
parents
failing
to
discover
their
children’s
lies.
Parents’
truth
bias
may
result
in
parents
being
less
doubtable
of
their
children,
allowing
them
to
successfully
cheat(欺骗)
them.”
Most
children
are
thought
to
start
lying
as
early
as
two
years
old
but
start
telling
more
believable
lies
at
around
the
age
of
four
years
old.
Learning
how
to
lie
is
considered
as
a
key
part
of
cognitive
(认知的)
and
social
development
in
children.
But
many
parents
are
shocked
when
their
children
start
lying
to
them.
In
their
study,
Dr
Evans
and
her
colleagues
filmed
108
children
aged
between
8
and
16
as
they
performed
a
test
after
being
asked
not
to
look
at
the
answers.
They
were
then
asked
afterwards
if
they
had
looked,
with
about
45%
truthfully
denying(否认)
looking,
about
30%
lying
about
looking
and
8%
admitting
(承认)
to
looking.
Videos
of
those
denying
looking
were
then
shown
to
152
parents
of
children
aged
8
to
16.
Eighty
of
the
parents
had
children
who
had
taken
part
in
the
test.
The
researchers
found
that
the
parents
were
less
able
to
discover
lies
told
by
their
own
children
than
by
other
people’s
children.
1.
What
is
the
result
of
the
new
research?
A.
Parents
are
surprised
to
find
their
children
have
lied
to
them.
B.
Scientists
advised
the
parents
not
to
notice
theirs
children’s
first
lies
C.
Many
of
the
children’s
lies
may
not
be
founded
by
the
parents.
D.
Children
seldom
lies
to
their
own
parents.
2.
What
does
the
underlined
word
“impair”
in
Paragraph
2
mean?
A.
意识到
B.
削弱
C.
发展
D.
识别
3.
According
to
the
study,
how
many
students
admitted
to
looking
at
the
answer?
A.
9
B.
30
C.
49
D.
58
4.
What
does
Dr.
Evans
want
to
find
about
children’s
lying?
A.
What
makes
parents
lose
trust
in
their
children.
B.
What
causes
children
to
tell
lies
to
their
parents.
C.
What
makes
parents
fail
to
see
their
children’s
lies.
D.
What
affects
children’s
relations
with
their
parents.
5.
What
can
be
inferred
from
Dr.
Evans’s
study
in
the
last
two
paragraphs?
A.
Lying
is
a
part
of
children’s
development.
B.
Parents
prefer
to
protect
their
own
children.
C.
Children
aged
8
to
16
are
very
likely
to
tell
lies.
D.
Parents
can
easily
discover
lies
told
by
children
of
others.

When
you
think
of
a
museum,
I
bet
you
won’t
think
of
a
place
where
children
run
around.
But
the
Science
Museum
is
different.
It’s
noisy.
You
can
get
to
the
Science
Museum
by
going
on
the
London
Underground
from
Wareloon
the
Jubilee
line
to
Westminster.
Then
take
the
Circle
or
the
District
line
to
South
Kensington.
When
you
walk
out,
take
a
look
around
you,
and
you
should
see
it.
What
to
bring:
at
least
two
bottles
of
drink
for
the
kids
and
£10
to
spend
in
the
cafes.
Entrance
is
free!
The
most
interesting
and
exciting
part
of
coming
here
is
to
go
to
the
Kids’
area,
the
Launch
Pad
on
the
third
floor.
At
busy
times,
you
may
have
to
wait
in
line,
but
staff(员工)will
provide
science
toys
for
you
and
the
kids
to
play
with.
It
is
great
fun
in
there.
And
if
you
love
science,
you
will
learn
about
science
in
a
fun
way.
There
are
also
simulators(模拟设备)
on
the
third
floor,
so
think
of
Floor
3
as
a
“fun
floor”.
If
you
want
to
learn
about
the
museum,
then
go
to
the
ground
floor.
They
have
something
which
will
interest
you.
Overall,
it’s
a
fun
experience
for
the
kids
and
you
may
enjoy
it,
too.
It’s
also
free
to
get
in!

Long
long
ago,
there
lived
a
man
and
a
woman
who
had
seven
sons.
The
couple
wanted
a
daughter
very
much,
and
finally,
they
had
a
girl.
She
was
very
pretty
and
her
parents
loved
her
very
much.
One
day
the
father
needed
water
for
the
child,
so
he
sent
the
seven
brothers
to
a
well
in
the
forest
to
get
it.
Once
there,
though,
the
boys
began
to
fight
and
the
water
jug
(壶)
fell
into
the
well.
The
boys
looked
into
the
well
and
thought
of
their
father.
They
were
afraid
to
go
home.
Hours
passed.
“Where
are
those
boys?”,
shouted
the
angry
father.
“They
are
probably
playing
a
game
and
have
forgotten
about
the
water.
I
wish
they
were
all
turned
into
ravens
(乌鸦)!”
And
when
he
looked
up,
he
saw
seven
blackbirds
flying
away.
The
father
was
shocked.
“What
have
I
done?”
he
thought.
But
it
was
too
late.
He
could
not
take
back
his
words.
Later,
the
girl
grew
up
and
discovered
she
had
brothers.
The
story
of
their
bad
luck
influenced
her
deeply,
and
she
decided
to
find
them.
For
years,
she
searched
and
did
not
stop.
She
made
up
her
mind
to
find
them.
Finally,
she
found
their
home.
To
enter,
she
needed
a
special
key
made
from
a
chicken
bone,
which
she
did
not
have.
The
girl
thought
for
a
moment,
and
then
took
a
knife
and
cut
off
one
of
her
fingers.
With
it,
she
opened
the
front
door
and
went
inside.
On
a
table,
there
were
seven
plates
and
seven
cups.
She
ate
and
drank
a
little
from
each
of
them.
In
the
last
cup,
she
accidentally
dropped
a
ring
that
her
parents
had
given
her.
Later
that
day,
the
ravens
returned
for
their
meal.
The
girl
hid
behind
the
door
and
watched.
When
the
seventh
raven
drank
from
his
cup,
something
hit
his
mouth.
The
raven
recognized
it
at
once—it
was
his
parents’
ring.
“I
wish
our
sister
were
here,”
he
said,
“and
then
we
could
be
free.
“At
that
moment,
their
sister
ran
to
them,
and
suddenly
the
ravens
were
human
again.
The
brothers
kissed
their
sister,
and
all
eight
of
them
went
home
together
happily.

To
many
people,
art
is
a
human
expression
of
creativity.
But
in
recent
years,
you
may
have
read
news
about
artificial
intelligence(AI)
creating
its
own
art,
such
as
painting
or
writing
poems.
Some
people
worry
that
AI
might
someday
replace(替代)
artists.
But
this
worry
seems
to
be
unnecessary,
at
least
for
now.
Many
artists
today
are
turning
AI
into
a
useful
tool.
Instead
of
replacing
artists,
AI
is
bringing
artists
more
possibilities.
A
piece
of
music
created
by
AI
recently
attracted
attention.
AI
was
used
to
create
the
music
based
on
the
protein(蛋白质)
structure
of
COVID-19.
The
music
lasted
nearly
two
hours.
The
project
was
led
by
Markus
Buehler,
an
American
musician
and
MIT
professor
of
engineering.
He
assigned(指定)
a
unique
note(独特的音符)
to
each
amino
acid(氨基酸)
is
the
protein.
The
AI
then
translated
these
notes
into
music.
Listeners
found
the
project
“mind-blowing”.
“It
allows
me
to
see
the
virus
in
a
new
way,”
said
one
listener.
This
surprising
combination(结合)
between
science
and
art
could
not
be
achieved
without
AI.
As
The
Verge
wrote,
“AI
helps
artists
play
around
in
unpredictable
ways,
creating
things
beyond
what
they
have
ever
thought
was
possible.”
Apart
from
creating
imaginative
works,
AI
can
also
take
care
of
repetitive(重复乏味的)
tasks
for
artists.
For
example,
in
the
comic
and
cartoon
industries,
there
are
now
AI
tools
that
can
automatically
(自动)
colour
in
black-and-white
line
drawings.
Although
the
results
can
be
unpredictable
and
require
a
little
cleanup.
It
can
give
artists
room
to
experiment(做实验)
by
cutting
down
the
time
it
takes
to
colour
each
picture.
As
Peter
Ward
wrote
for
The
Culture
Trip.
“Art
of
every
kind
has
always
been
influenced
by
technological
developments.”
AI
can
become
a
useful
tool
to
bring
change
to
the
art
world
if
it’s
welcomed
and
not
unfairly
feared.
1.

“Clear

“Don’t

In
the
cafeterias
of

across
China,
banners
(横幅)
like
these
have
been
put
up
everywhere.
They
are
part
of
a
nationwide
campaign
(活动)
to
cut
down
on
food
waste
in
China.
Food
waste
has
become
a
big
problem
these
days.
According
to
the
United
Nations,
1.3
billion
tons
of
food
is
wasted
every
year---
that’s
about
a
third
of
the
word’s
total
food.
In
China
alone,
the
restaurants
wasted
17
to
18
millon
tons
of
food
a
year
from
2013
to
2015.
That
could
feed
30
to
50
million
people
for
a
whole
year,
accroding
to
Chinese
Academy
of
Sciences.
To
push
for
the
campaign
,
restaurants
and
catering
associations
(餐饮协会)
in
more
than
18
provinces
in
China
have
all
taken
action
to
control
food
waste.
In
Shanxi
province,
for
example,
restaurants
have
been
asked
to
serve
half
portions
(半份)
to
avoid
waste.
The
Wuhan
Catering
association
suggested
that
restaurants
use
the
“N-1
mode”.
For
example,
a
group
of
10
diners
should
only
order
enough
for
nine
people
at
first.
More
food
is
only
brought
to
the
table
if
required.
If
people
can’t
finish
their
meals,
they
are
also
encouraged
to
take
the
leftovers
(剩菜)
home.
A
related
online
activity
has
been
launched
on
Sina
Weibo.
Users
share
photos
or
videos
of
empty
plates
after
finishing
their

Lots
of
famous
pop
stars
have

the
habit
of

On
Wechat,
a

called
“Cleat

invites
people

People
can

It
was
a
cold
November
morning
several
years
ago.
My
alarm
clock
had
just
gone
off,
but
I
was
having
trouble
getting
out
of
bed.
My
dad
had
died
a
few
weeks
before.
I
felt
weighed
down
by
sadness.
Tough(结实的)and
strong,
my
dad
had
worked
so
hard
all
of
his
life
to
support
us.
He
had
a
temper
and
would
sometimes
shout
at
my
brothers
and
me,
but
I
always
knew
that
he
loved
me.
Still,
he
had
been
raised
in
a
traditional
way
and
raised
us
that
way
too.
I
couldn’t
remember,
for
example,
ever
being
hugged
by
him.
But
finally,
my
mom
and
grandma
passed
away.
My
dad
moved
into
a
house
right
close
to
the
flat
where
I
lived.
I
was
so
happy
to
have
him
close
by.
I
would
often
visit
him
and
just
talk
with
him
about
life.
But
we
seldom
touched
and
never
hugged.
Finally
his
own
health
began
to
rapidly
fail
and
within
a
few
months
he
left
us.
It
was
a
cold
morning
when
we
had
his
service,
but
I
was
too
cold
and
numb
(麻木的)
inside
myself
to
feel
it.
I
couldn’t
remember
when
we’d
had
our
last
hug.
I
sighed
(叹气)
and
got
out
of
my
bed.
I
turned
on
the
lights
and
walked
into
the
hallway.
I
saw
my
son
John
walking
down
the
hall
to
meet
me.
Suddenly,
he
opened
his
arms
and
gave
me
a
heart-felt
hug.
And
just
as
he
did,
I
heard
my
dad’s
voice
deep
inside
of
me
say,
“Joey,
this
hug
is
from
me!”
I
cried
and
smiled
at
the
same
time.
In
that
moment,
in
the
place
where
heart,
mind,
and
spirit
all
met,
I
felt
loved.
I
felt
loved
by
my
dad.
I
felt
loved
by
life.

Far
away
and
freezing
cold,
Antarctica(南极)
might
not
be
on
your
travel
plan.
But
as
the
last
"pure”
place
on
Earth,
it
is
attractive
to
scientists
all
over
the
world
who
want
to
study
the
rich
resources
and
environmental
conditions
there.
On
October
15,
50
Chinese
researchers
set
sail
from
Shenzhen,
heading
for
China's
research
stations
in
Antarctica.
The
new
ship
they
took,
Xuelong
2,
is
expected
to
give
them
a
good
journey.
Xuelong
2
is
China's
second
icebreaker
and
also
the
first
one
built
in
China.
This
trip
is
its
maiden
voyage(首航).
According
to
Zhao
Yanping,
captain
of
Xuelong
2,
this
new
icebreaker
can
perform
better
than
the
older
icebreaker
Xuelong,
as
it
has
many
new
features.
The
biggest
change
is
that
Xuelong
2
can
break
ice
from
two
directions
with
both
its
bow(船首)
and
stern(船尾).This
allows
it
to
work
in
areas
with
high
ice
density(密度).“Previously,
it
could
take
12
hours
for
Xuelong
to
turn
around
when
travelling
through
thick
ice.
But
now
we
don't
need
to
turn
around.
We
can
just
move
backwards,
"Zhao
told
China
National
Radio.
The
new
ship
is
also“smarter
because
there
are
many
sensors(传感器)
on
board
that
can
collect
data.
If
the
ship
moves
too
fast,
for
example,
it
will
sound
an
alarm
to
prevent
the
ship
from
being
damaged
by
ice.
In
the
front
of
the
ship,
there
is
sea
animal
detector(探测器).
It
helps
researchers
watch
and
study
sea
animals
more
easily.
Apart
from
studying
animals,
researchers
will
carry
out
many
other
tasks
during
the
trip,
including
research
on
the
southern
polar
area's
natural
resources,
atmosphere
and
ice
shelf.
They
will
also
help
build
China's
fifth
research
station.
If
everything
goes
as
planned,
Xuelong
2
will
arrive
in
Antarctica
later
in
November
and
return
to
China
in
late
March,
China
Daily
reported.
1.
Why
is
Antarctica
attractive
to
scientists
all
over
the
world?
A.
Because
the
mild
climate
in
Antarctica
is
quite
suitable
for
people
to
survive.
B.
Because
all
the
countries
want
to
build
as
many
research

as
possible.
C.
Because
Antarctica
is
one
of
the
most
famous

around
the

D.
Because
scientists
show

from
the
passage?
A.
Xuelong

Many
people
believe
the
glare(刺眼的光)
from
snow
causes
snow
blindness.
Yet,
with
dark
glasses
or
not,
they
find
themselves
suffering
from
headaches
and
watering
eyes,
and
even
snow
blindness
when
staying
in
snow
light
for
several
hours.
The
United
States
army
has
now
discovered
that
glare
from
snow
does
not
cause
snow
blindness
in
troops(军队)
in
a
snow-covered
country.
In
fact,
a
man’s
eyes
often
find
nothing
to
focus
on
in
a
broad
space
of
snow-covered
land.
So
his
eyes
keep
moving
over
the
whole
landscape
in
search
of
something
to
look
at.
Finding
something,
hour
after
hour,
the
eyes
never
stop
searching
and
the
eyeballs
become
tired
and
the
eye
muscles
ache.
Nature
makes
up
for
this
discomfort
by
producing
more
and
more
fluid
(液体)
which
covers
the
eyeball.
The
fluid
covers
the
eyeball
more
and
more
until
it
makes
eyes
difficult
to
see
clearly,
and
the
result
is
completely
snow
blindness,
even
though
for
a
short
time.
Experiments
led
the
army
to
a
simple
method
of
solving
this
problem.
Scouts
(侦察员)
ahead
of
the
troops
are
trained
to
shake
snow
from
evergreen
bushes,
creating
a
dotted
line
as
they
cross
completely
snow-covered
landscape.
Even
the
scouts
themselves
throw
lightweight,
dark-colored
objects
ahead
which
they
can
look
at,
too.
The
men
following
can
then
see
something.
Their
eyes
focus
on
a
bush
and
having
found
something
to
look
at,
stop
searching
the
snow-blanketed
landscape.
By
focusing
their
attention
on
one
object
at
a
time,
the
men
can
cross
the
snow
without
becoming
hopelessly
snow-blind
or
lost.
In
this
way
the
problem
of
crossing
a
continuous
white
land
is
solved.

One
day,
you
open
the
fridge
and
find
some
moldy(发霉的)food.
But
before
you
can
throw
it
away,
your
mother
stops
you.
She
doesn't
want
to
waste
food.
She
cuts
off
the
moldy
part
and
eats
the
rest.
Is
it
safe
to
do
this?
Mold(霉菌)can
grow
on
almost
all
kinds
of
food.
Mold
is
usually
green,
white,
black
or
grey.
Mold
makes
food
soft
and
changes
its
color.
Moldy
food
tastes
quite
bad
and
it's
not
safe
to
eat.
If
you
find
mold
in
soft
food,
just
throw
it
away.
Soft
food,
such
as
bread,
tomatoes
or
hot
dogs,
usually
contains(包含)water.
This
allows
mold
to
easily
grow
below
its
surface.
Bacteria(细菌)can
also
grow
along
with
it.
But
it's
easy
to
remove
mold
from
hard
food.
The
mold
can't
grow
very
deeply
inside
this
kind
of
food.
According
to
the
BBC,
you
should
cut
about
2.5
cm
around
and
below
the
mold
to
remove
it.
It's
OK
to
cut
the
moldy
parts
out
of
hard
food
and
eat
the
rest.
But
if
the
food
is
completely
covered
with
mold,
you
should
still
throw
it
away.
Most
kinds
of
mold
are
bad
for
us.
But
some
kinds
of
mold
can
be
used
to
make
food.
For
example,
penicillium(青霉菌)can
be
used
to
make
many
types
of
cheeses,
such
as
blue
cheese.
These
cheeses
are
safe
to
eat
and
they're
quite
delicious
as
well.
1.
If
you
find
mold
on
a
tomato,
______.
A.
it
is
safe
to
eat
it
B.
you
can
cut
off
the
moldy
part
and
eat
the
rest
C.
you
should
throw
it
away
D.
you
can
boil
it
in
hot
water
first
and
then
eat
it
2.
Which
of
the
following
is
TRUE
about
mold?
A.
It
is
more
likely
to
grow
on
hard
food.
B.
We
can't
see
it
with
our
eyes.
C.
It
grows
faster
when
it
is
cold.
D.
It
makes
the
food
taste
bad.
3.
To
remove
mold
on
hard
food,
you
need
to__________.
A.
cut
about
2.5
cm
around
and
below
the
mold
B.
cut
the
food
in
half
C.
cut
about
1.5
cm
around
and

that
penicillium__________.
A.
tastes
quite
delicious
B.
can
be
used
to

wheels
burning
with
fire
.Yet
the
figure(形象)
in
the
new
film
is
quite
different.
Take
the
film
in
1979
called
Prince
Ne
Zha’s
Triumph
against
the
Dragon
king(哪吒战胜龙王)
for
example.
Ne
Zha
in
the
1979
Move
is
good-looking
and
is
ready
to
help
others.
Yet
in
the
new
film,
the
character
has
gaps
in
his
teeth,
dark
circles
under
his
eyes
and
instead
of
standing
for
selflessness,
he
messes
around
and
causes
trouble.
The
character
has
been
a
hit
within
people.
The
film
has
a
score
of
8.7
out
of
10
on
a
rating
site,
making
it
the
highest
scored
Chinese
cartoon
film
over
the
past
three
decades(数十年)
In
the
film,
Ne
Zha
was
meant
to
be
born
a
god
,but
instead
is
reincarnated(转世)as
a
demon(恶魔)by
mistake.
From
the
very
day
he
is
born,
people
live
in
fear
of
the
child
and
ask
his
father
to
kill
him
to
prevent
him
from
causing
disasters.
Fortunately,
his
parents
choose
to
protect
him.
Unlike
other
works
about
Ne
Zha,
his
parents
love
and
protect
him
in
the
new
film.
This
may
be
another
reason
why
the
film
has
caught
the
hearts
of
people.
The
movie
took
Yang
Yu,
the
director,
two
years
to
refine
the
story,
and
the
film
was
in
production
for
three
years.It
is
the
most
complex(复杂的)cartoon
production
ever
made
in
China
.
Ne
Zha
has
more
than
1,300
special
effects
shots
,
and
it
took
over
20
Chinese
special-effects
companies
and
more
than
1,600
people
to
realize
the
film's
fairy
tale
setting.

A
Chinese
song
could
be
heard
in
a
classroom
in
Sana,
the
capital
of
Yemen(也门),where
around
20
Chinese-learning
schoolchildren
were
singing
“I
love
to
learn
the
Chinese
language
because
it
is
very
nice,
important
and
I
want
to
travel
to
China
to
complete
my
studies
there,”
Karim
al-Areqi,
a
student
of
the
private
Languages
Model
School
in
Sanaa,
told
Xinhua.
Teacher
Mohammed
Al-Ansi,
who
learnt
the
language
in
China
and
received
a
university
degree,
stressed(强调)the
importance
of
learning
the
Chinese
language.
“It
is
the
language
of
the
future
and
it
is
necessary
for
all
people
to
get
advantages
from
the
great
development
in
China,”
he
said.
Like
many
other
private
primary
and
secondary
schools
in
Yemen,
the
Chinese
language
is
a
basic
part
of
the
Languages
Model
School's
courses,
where
the

study
Chinese
as
actively
as
math
and
science
subjects.
“In
teaching
the
Chinese
language,
I
succeeded
in
educating
students
in
a
simple
way
that
fits
everyone,”
al-Ansi
said
proudly,
stressing
that
teaching
Chinese
has
changed
his
life
without
doubt.
Al-Ansi
expects
that
Yemen
and
China
will
work
together
to
set
up
centers
and
schools
for
teaching
the
Chinese
language
in
Yemen
so
that
many
young
Yemenis
can
learn.
“I
hope
that
a
branch
of
the
Confucius
(孔子学院)
could
be
built
in
Yemen
to
teach
the
language
and
spread
the
Chinese
culture
to
many
students
and
researchers
who
are
interested
in
learning
the
Chinese
culture
and
language,”
he
said.
Many
Yemenis
see
that
learning
a
foreign
language
may
open
a
way
of
hope
to
a
new
life,
such
as
getting
a
good
job,
making

paving(铺平)the

It
was
last
January,
when
I'd
just
finished
a
charity(慈善)and
was
on
the
train
back
home,
that
I
put
down
my
phone
and
started
writing
thank-you
notes
to
people
who
had
helped.
When
I
got
off
the
train,
I
felt
amazingly
good.
The
next
day,
I
wrote
more
thank-yous
and
the
same
feeling
of
happiness
hit
me
again.
I
suddenly
had
the
idea:
Why
not
keep
on
doing
this
for
every
day
of
the
year?
To
keep
on
task,
I
decided
to
pick
out
a
different
theme
for
each
month.
January
was
charity.
February
would
be
neighbors,
I
decided.
And
I
thought
of
a
number
of
names
right
away:
the
owner
of
our
local
bookstore,
who
let
me
and
my
little
son
in
before
the
store
opened
and
offered
to
play
his
favorite
songs;
our
babysitter,
who
dropped
off
a
bag
of
old
board
games
for
our
kids
to
play;….
While
writing
the
notes,
I
realized
how
often
I
had
spent
my
time
on
the
phone
moving
from
app
to
app,
appreciating(欣赏)other
people's
lives.
Writing
thank-you
notes
allowed
me
the
time
to
do
something
different,
paying
more
attention
to
my
own
life.
In
the
following
months,
I
wrote
to
my
friends,
doctors,
teachers
and
parenting
role
models.
In
July,
my
"food"
month,
I
wrote
to
Julie,
who
used
to
cook
at
my
favorite
restaurant.
It
went
like
this:
Dear.
Julie,
I've
been
finding
myself
missing
you
recently.
Thank
you
for
hosting
and
cooking
beautiful
and
thoughtful
food.
Jake
and
I
will
never
forget
when
you
sent
out
biscuits
shaped
into
the
number
VI
for
our
sixth
anniversary
(周年纪念日).
We
talk
about
it
every
year.
Thank
you.
We
miss
you.
Love,
Gina
I
was
happy
to
receive
a
note
back
from
her.
Julie
replied,
"I
don't
think
I've
ever
received
such
a
touching
letter
before.
I'm
going
through
a
hard
time
right
now,
and
this
helps.
"
On
December
31,I
wrote
my
last
card—to
Jake,
my
husband,
and
our
two
kids.
And
I
took
a
picture
of
us,
so
I
could
remember
the
feeling
welling
up
inside
me.
Gratitude(感激).

A
serious
earthquake
can
be
a
terrible
experience,
and
it
is
easy
to
forget
safety
measures(措施)
in
disorder(混乱).
Fortunately,
most
earthquake
safety
measures
are
common
sense,
but
if
you
forget
everything
else,
remember
the
following
instructions:
drop,
cover,
and
hold
on.
Also,
most
of
earthquake
deaths
happen
after
the
earthquake,
so
remember
that
the
danger
does
not
end
when
the
shaking
does!
If
you
stay
indoors
during
an
earthquake,
move
away
from
unsupported
areas
and
windows.
Try
to
get
under
a
doorway
or
another
area
of
the
building
which
is
held
up
by
strong
beams(梁).
Stay
under
a
table
or
desk
only
if
it
is
very
strong.
Do
not
rush
to
lifts,
because
it
is
far
safer
to
stay
where
you
are.
Cover
your
head
with
your
arms
around
it
and
curl
(蜷缩)
into
a
ball,
and
wait
for
the
shaking
to
stop.
If
you
stay
outdoors
during
an
earthquake,
move
to
an
area
which
is
as
open
as
possible.
Don’t
move
to
buildings,
electric
poles
and
other
objects
which
may
fall
during
an
earthquake
and
injure
you.
Protect
your
head
and
stay
low
to
the
ground
till
the
shaking
ends
and
it
is
safe
to
move.
After
an
earthquake,
many
buildings
are
less
strong,
although
they
appear
safe.
If
you
stay
indoors,
move
people
from
the
building
quickly
and
help
disabled
or
injured
people.
Once
outdoors,
move
well
away
from
the
building
so
that
if
it
falls
down,
you
will
not
be
injured.
Wait
till
public
safety
officials
announce
that
it
is
safe
to
stay
indoors.
By
planning
ahead
and
keeping
calm
during
an
earthquake,
you
can
greatly
increase
your
chances
of
survival
without
injury.

are

Long
long
ago,
there
lived
a
man
and
a
woman
who
had
seven
sons.
The
couple
wanted
a
daughter
very
much,
and
finally,
they
had
a
girl.
She
was
very
pretty
and
her
parents
loved
her
very
much.
One
day
the
father
needed
water
for
the
child,
so
he
sent
the
seven
brothers
to
a
well(井)in
the
forest
to
get
it.
Once
there,
though,
the
boys
began
to
fight
and
the
water
jug(壶)
fell
into
the
well.
The
boys
looked
into
the
well
and
thought
of
their
father.
They
were
afraid
to
go
home.
Hours
passed.
“Where
are
those
boys?
”shouted
the
angry
father.
“They
are
probably
playing
a
game
and
have
forgotten
about
the
water.
I
wish
they
were
all
turned
into
ravens(乌鸦)!”And
when
he
looked
up,
he
saw
seven
black
birds
flying
away.
The
father
was
shocked.
“What
have
I
done?
”he
thought.
But
it
was
too
late.
He
could
not
take
back
his
words.
Later,
the
girl
grew
up
and
discovered
she
had
brothers.
The
story
of
their
bad
luck
influenced
her
deeply,
and
she
decided
to
find
them.
For
years,
she
searched
and
did
not
stop.
She
made
up
her
mind
to
find
them.
Finally,
she
found
their
home.
To
enter,
she
needed
a
special
key
made
from
a
chicken
bone,
which
she
did
not
have.
The
girl
thought
for
a
moment,
and
then
took
a
knife
and
cut
off
one
of
her
fingers.
With
it,
she
opened
the
front
door
and
went
inside.
On
a
table,
there
were
seven
plates
and
seven
cups.
She
ate
and
drank
a
little
from
each
of
them.
In
the
last
cup,
she
accidentally
dropped
a
ring
that
her
parents
had
given
her.
Later
that
day,
the
ravens
returned
for
their
meal.
The
girl
hid
behind
the
door
and
watched.
When
the
seventh
raven
drank
from
his
cup,
something
hit
his
mouth.
The
raven
recognized
it
at
once-it
was
his
parents'
ring.
“I
wish
our
sister
were
here,

he
said,
“and
then
we
could
be
free.
”At
that
moment,
their
sister
ran
to
them,
and
suddenly
the
ravens
were
human
again.
The
brothers
kissed
their
sister,
and
all
eight
of
them
went
home
together
happily.

Don't
talk
to
strange
people.
B.
Your
parents
always
know
best.
C.
Work
hard
and
you
will
be

D.
Think

about
what
to

(十六)
It's
a
common
belief
that
over
time,
pet
owners
start
to
look
like
their
animals.
Now
comes
the
terrifying
news
that
cats
look
up
to
their
owners
as
role
models
and
copy
their
behavior.
Next
time
you
reach
for
your
fridge,
think
twice.
If
your
cat
is
watching,
she
will
probably
overeat
as
well.
In
a
new
study
from
the
University
of
Messina,
it
turns
out
that
indoor
cats
who
live
closely
to
their
owners
“mirror”
the
lives
of
their
caregivers.
They
sleep
at
the
same
time,
eat
at
the
same
time,
and
can
even
become
more
or
less
social
depending
on
the
behavior
of
their
owners.
“Cats
are
clever
animals
with
a
long
memory,”
Jane
Brunt,
director
of
the
Catalyst
Council,
told
Discovery
News.
“They
watch
and
learn
from
us,
noting
the
patterns
of
our
actions,
knowing
where
their
food
is
kept
and
what
time
to
expect
to
be
fed,
how
to
open
the
cupboard
door
that's
been
improperly
closed,
and
where
their
feeding
and
toileting
areas
are.”
Because
cats
copy
our
habits,
if
you
spend
a
lot
of
time
raiding(搜刮)the
fridge,
your
cat
will
return
to
its
food
bowl
for
that
midnight
snack,
too.
According
to
the
study,
this
explains
why
“human
and
cat
overweight
rates
often
seem
to
match”.
There's
no
word(证据)
if
drinking
green
tea
and
making
sure
you
go
to
yoga
will
benefit
(使受益)
your
catbut
based
on
the
study,
it
sounds
like
sticking
to
a
healthy
eating
and
sleeping
habit
is
best
for
both
of
you.
There's
a
lot
we
can
learn
from
our
cats
in
return.
“When
they
sit
softly
breathing
,
eyes
half
closed,
the
sense
of
peace
and
calm
that
comes
over
us
is
like
a
private
less
on
in
inner
meditation(冥想),”Brunt
said.
They're
probably
pretty
good
at
remaining
calm.
So,
according
to
science,
though
we
think
that
cats
are
not
close
to
us
all
these
years,
it
turns
out
they
are
in
fact
learning
from
us
and
looking
up
to
us.
Scary,
huh?

the
door
while
Mr.
Brownlow
led
Monks
into
a
back
room.
"What
kind
of
treatment
is
this?"
said
Monks,
"from
my
father's
oldest
friend?"
"Yes,
I
was
your
father's
oldest
friend,
and
that
is
why
I
am
treating
you
with
kindness
now.
"said
Mr.
Brownlow.
"What
do
you

said
Monks.
"You

a

Mr.

"Later,

Do
you
know
that,
in
summer,
the
average
American
family
pays
about
40%
of
their
energy
bill
for
air
conditioning
of
the
house?
But
it
doesn’t
have
to
be
this
way,
use
these
simple
tips
to
help
you
keep
your
house
cool
and
significantly
reduce
your
energy
bills
during
the
hot
months.
If
you
need
to
cool
only
one
room,
don’t
use
your
central
air
conditioning.
Buy
an
air
conditioner
that
can
be
moved
easily,
instead.
Such
an
air
conditioner
has
a
very
high
energy
efficiency
rating(效率等级),
so
it
will
cool
your
room
well
and
save
you
a
lot.
Fix
mini-blinds(百叶窗)or
white
window
shades.
Mini-blinds
can
be
very
effective
and
can
reduce
heat
gain
from
direct
sunlight
by
40-50
percent.
You
can
also
hang
bamboo
shades
outside
your
windows.
This
will
stop
up
to
80
percent
of
the
sun’s
heat
from
getting
through
your
windows.
It
is
best
to
clean
your
air
conditioner
filter(过滤器)at
least
once
a
month.
Dust
build-ups
can
greatly
reduce
air
flow.
When
buying
an
air
conditioner
unit,
make
sure
that
it
is
the
right
size
for
your
room.
A
unit
that
is
too
small
will
not
cool
your
room
well,
and
an
A/C
that
is
too
large
will
use
much
more
energy
than
necessary.
If
your
air
conditioner
is
old,
consider
replacing
it
with
a
modern
high
efficiency
unit.
Older
A/C
systems
have
a
SEER
(seasonal
energy
efficiency
ratio)
of
only
6
or
7,
while
the
best
air
conditioners
on
the
market
today
offer
SEER
as
high
as
13.
That
means
that
it
will
use
almost
50%
less
energy.
Cooking,
drying
cloth
or
dishwashing
produces
a
lot
of
heat.
Try
to
begin
these
activities
later
until
the
evening,
when
it
gets
cooler.

does
the
writer
advise
us
to
fix
mini-blinds

our
room
more
beautiful.
B.
Because
they
can
reduce
noises
outside
the
room.
C.
Because
they
can
replace
the
air
conditioner
to
cool
the
room.
D.
Because
they
can
prevent
the
room
from
gaining
too
much
heat
from
sunlight.
3.Which
of
the
following
is
NOT
mentioned
in
the
passage?
A.
Try
to
keep
your

conditioner
filter
clean.

buying
an
expensive
air
conditioner.
C.

your
old
air
conditioner
if
necessary.
D.
Make
sure
the
size
of
your
air
conditioner
fits
your
