Taking
a
shower
is
relaxing.
You
can
hum
a
song,
daydream
or
think
about
nothing,
leaving
the
real
world
behind
you.
But
did
you
know
that
showering
can
also
benefit
your
mind?
Research
by
Scott
Barry
Kaufman,
a
psychologist
from
Yale
University
interviewed
over
3,
000
people
around
the
world.
It
turned
out
that
nearly
two-thirds
of
the
interviewees
said
they
had
experienced
new
ideas
in
the
shower
and
were
more
likely
to
have
them
in
the
shower
than
at
work.
So
why
does
a
simple
shower
have
such
magic
power?
Science
can
explain
it.
Showering
can
help
to
raise
our
level
of
dopamine(多巴胺),
a
hormone
closely
related
to
our
creativity.
“People
vary
in
terms
of
their
level
of
creativity
according
to
the
activity
of
dopamine,
”
explained
Alice
Flaherty,
a
famous
American
neuroscientist.
“Taking
a
warm
shower
can
make
us
feel
relaxed
and
therefore
make
the
dopamine
level
rise
and
bring
‘Aha!
’
moment
to
us.
”
Besides
the
chemical
changes,
showering
may
give
you
a
break
from
what
you
feel
you
have
been
stuck
with.
Especially
when
you
have
thought
hard
all
day
about
a
problem,
jumping
into
the
shower
can
keep
you
from
the
outside
world
so
that
you
can
focus
on
your
inner
feelings
and
memories.
Compared
with
sitting
in
front
of
a
computer,
taking
a
shower
is
something
we
do
less
frequently
in
our
daily
life.
When
showering,
we
get
a
fresh
experience
with
the
change
of
location,
temperature
and
humidity.
“New
and
unexpected
experiences
can
lead
to
positive
changes
in
thinking,
”
explained
Kaufman.
“Getting
off
the
couch
and
jumping
in
the
shower
may
create
a
distance
and
force
you
to
think
from
a
new
point
of
view.
”
Showering
allows
us
to
enjoy
the
creative
juices
of
our
minds,
but
it
needn’t
just
be
the
bathroom
where
you
get
your
inspiration.
For
instance,
Gertrude
Stein,
a
female
American
writer
and
poet,
got
new
ideas
by
driving
around
a
farm
and
stopping
at
different
cows
until
she
found
the
one
that
most
inspired
her.
So
try
to
create
your
own
way
to
free
your
mind.
【文章大意】本文是一篇科普说明文。洗澡可以让人转移注意力并激发灵感,
但灵感产生的方式并不唯一,
人们要善于找到适合自己的激发灵感的方式。
1.

part
of
the
brain
free.
C.
Leading
to

closely
related
to
our
creativity.
“洗澡可以帮助提高我们的多巴胺水平,
多巴胺是一种与我们的创造力密切相关的激素。”可知洗澡可以提高多巴胺的分泌水平。
2.
If

【解析】选A。推理判断题。根据第五段可知,
洗澡可能会让你从你一直坚持的事情中解脱出来。尤其是当你一整天都在为一个问题苦苦思索的时候,
跳进淋浴间可以让你远离外界,
让你专注于自己内心的感受和记忆。由此推断洗澡能让人把注意力转向内心。
3.
According
to
Kaufman,
why
can
taking
showers
make
us
creative?
A.
Because
taking
showers
happens
more
often.
B.
Because
taking
showers
can
make
us

inspiring
us.
C.
Because
nothing

taking
showers
can
get
our
inspiration.
D.
Because
taking
showers
can
help
us

something
unexpected.
【解析】选B。细节理解题。根据倒数第二段可知,
洗澡时,
随着位置、温度和湿度的变化,
我们会获得全新的体验。考夫曼解释说:
“新的和意想不到的经历会导致思维的积极变化。”由此可知洗澡能让我们获得全新的体验,
并对我们有积极的影响。

If
you
were
like
most

you
probably
got

when
your

by
a
brother’s
or
sister’s
name.
How
could
she
not
know
you?
Did
it
mean
she

you
less?
Probably
not.
According
to
the
first
research
to
deal
with
this
topic
head-on,
misnaming
the
most
familiar
people
in
our
life
is
a
common
cognitive
(认知的)
error
that
has
to
do
with
how
our
memories
classify
and
store
familiar
names.
The
study,
published
online
in
April
in
the
journal
Memory
and
Cognition,
found
that
the
“wrong”
name
is
not
random
but
is
always
fished
out
from
the
same
relationship
pond:
children,
friends,
brothers
and
sisters.
The
study
did
not
examine
the
possibility
of
deep
psychological
significance
to
the
mistake,
says
psychologist
David
Rubin,
“but
it
does
tell
us
who’s
in
and
who’s
out
of
the
group.
”
The
study
also
found
that
within
that
group,
misnamings
occurred
where
the
names
shared
initial
or
internal
sounds,
like
Jimmy
and
Joanie
or
John
and
Bob.
Physical
resemblance
between
people
was
not
a
factor.
Nor
was
gender.
The
researchers
conducted
five
separate
surveys
of
more
than
1,
700
people.
Some
of
the
surveys
included
only
college
students;
others
were
done
with
a
mixed-age
population.
Some
asked
subjects
about
incidents
where
someone
close
to
them—family
or
friend—had
called
them
by
another
person’s
name.
The
other
surveys
asked
about
times
when
subjects
had
themselves
called
someone
close
to
them
by
the
wrong
name.
All
the
surveys
found
that
people
mixed
up
names
within
relationship
groups
such
as
grandchildren,
friends
and
brothers
and
sisters
but
hardly
ever
crossed
these
boundaries.
In
general,
the
study
found
that
undergraduates
were
almost
as
likely
as
old
people
to
make
this
mistake
and
men
as
likely
as
women.
Older
people
and
women
made
the
mistake
slightly
more
often,
but
that
may
be
because
grandparents
have
more
grandchildren
to
mix
up
than
parents
have
children.
Also,
mothers
may
call
on
their
children
more
often
than
fathers,
given
traditional
gender
norms.
There
was
no
evidence
that
errors
occurred
more
when
the
misnamer
was
frustrated,
tired
or
angry.

when
they
were
misnamed?
A.
Unwanted.
B.
Unhappy.
C.
Confused.
D.
Indifferent.
【解析】选B。细节理解题。根据第一段第一句:
如果你像多数小孩子一样,
你很可能在你妈妈用你兄弟或姐妹的名字叫你时感到很沮丧。通过got

6.
What
did
David

【解析】选A。推理判断题。根据第三段可知,
这项研究发现错误的名字不是随机的,
但总是源自相同的关系网。这里fished

pond表示“源自相同的关系网”,
换句话说就是来自对名字是否属于同一关系网的记忆。故A选项切合文意。
7.
What

【解析】选D。推理判断题。根据第五段的内容可知,
调查发现人们会混淆关系网群组内的名字,
比如孙子、朋友和兄弟姐妹的名字,
但几乎不会超越这些界限。这和选项D.
It

C.
They
communicate
more
with
their
children.
D.
They

【解析】选C。推理判断题。根据文章最后一段可知,
妈妈们因为性别的缘故,
也许比父亲更高频率地和她们的孩子交流。这里call
on
的意思是“短暂拜访”,
即“短时间交谈”,
换句话说就是和孩子们交流比父亲更多一点,
故选项C.
They
communicate

Fathers
have
a
strong
influence
on
their
children.
And
one
of
the
areas
in
which
researchers
look
for
the
influence
is
in
the
development
of
language.
What
begins
with
gestures
and
sounds
develops
into
competence
with
language
by
around
age
3.
Fathers
are
proving
to
be
an
important
part
of
this
process,
as
Lynne
Vernon-Feagans
of
the
University
of
North
Carolina
and
her
colleagues
are
finding
out.
They
have
done
some
of
the
most
interesting
work
looking
at
children’s
language
development
in
both
middle-class
and
poor,
rural
families.
They’ve
found,
to
their
surprise,
that
not
only
are
fathers
important
for
children’s
language
development,
but
that
fathers
matter
more
than
mothers.
For
example,
they
found
that
fathers’
use
of
vocabulary
when
reading
picture
books
to
their
children
at
6
months
of
age
was
significantly
related
to
the
children’s
expressiveness
at
15
months
and
use
of
advanced
language
at
age
3.
This
held
true
no
matter
what
the
mother’s
educational
level
was
or
how
she
spoke
to
the
children.
Vernon-Feagans
was
surprised
by
the
difference
between
mothers
and
fathers.
She
had
thought
they
would
be
equally
involved
in
encouraging
their
children’s
language
development.
Why
would
fathers
be
more
important
in
this
regard
than
mothers?
Maybe
it’s
because
mothers
are
more
familiar
with
their
kids,
typically
spending
more
time
with
them
than
fathers
do.
That
makes
mothers
more
likely
to
choose
words
the
kids
know.
Fathers
aren’t
as
familiar
with
their
kids,
so
they
use
a
broader
vocabulary,
and
the
kids
learn
new
words
and
concepts
as
a
result.
Vernon-Feagans
thought
there
might
be
another
factor
at
play
as
well.
Because
fathers
usually
spend
less
time
with
their
kids,
they
are
more
of
a
novelty.
That
makes
them
more
interesting
playmates.
“I
do
think
our
children
see
it
as
very
special
when
they
do
book
reading
with
their
fathers,
”
she
said.
“They
may
listen
more
and
acquire
language
in
a
special
way.
”?
The
researchers
found
that
wealthier
fathers
produced
a
greater
rise
in
their
children’s
IQs
than
did
similarly
active
low-income
fathers.
It
might
sound
discouraging,
but
it
suggests
that
improving
men’s
educational
or
financial
status
would
bring
benefits
not
only
to
them
but
to
their
children
as
well.

East
Africa
is
experiencing
the
worst
desert
locust
outbreak
in
decades.
Climate
events
have
accelerated
breeding
of
the
pest
across
the
region,
and
with
a
sudden
rise
in
the
locust
population
expected
in
coming
weeks,
urgent
actions
and
funds
are
needed
to
prevent
a
human
crisis.
Twenty
million
people
in
six
of
the
eight
East
African
countries
are
most
affected
by
an
ongoing
desert
locust
outbreak
at
risk
of
serious
food
insecurity.
Considered
among
the
most
destructive
of
moving
pests,
an
adult
locust
can
consume
2g
of
plants
per
day,
affecting
crops
and
grasslands.
A
group
typically
holds
20
to
150
million
locusts
per
square
kilometer
and
can
move
hundreds
of
kilometers
per
day,
invading
areas
covering
millions
of
square
kilometers.
An
active
group,
therefore,
can
destroy
crops
and
grasslands
within
a
very
short
period
of
time.
That
global
warming
could
increase
the
risk
of
desert
locust
crisis
was
proposed
over
ten
years
ago,
and
in
February,
the
UN
Secretary-General
António
Guterres
stated
that
the
current
outbreak
is
linked
to
the
effects
of
climate
change:
“warmer
seas
mean
more
perfect
breeding
ground
for
locusts”.
The
outbreak
has
its
origins
in
2018,
when
a
series
of
windstorms
in
the
Arabian
Peninsula
(阿拉伯半岛)
enabled
the
warm
and
wet
conditions
the
desert
locust
requires
to
breed
and
band
undetected
in
remote
regions.
Though
our
focus
here
is
migration
west,
dreadful
outbreaks
of
the
desert
locust
have
been
experienced
to
the
east.
The
situation
is
going
out
of
control.
A
rescue
operation
and
financial
support
admit
no
delay.
The
Food
and
Agricultural
Organization
(FAO)
can
take
out
only
US$138
million
for
rapid
response
and
immediate
action—
controlling
the
spread
of
the
desert
locust
and
safeguarding
livelihoods.
They
say
the
maths
is
clear:
about
half
the
funding
(资助)
is
needed
for
supervision,
ground
and
sky
control,
and
uniting
efforts;
the
other
half
is
needed
for
livelihoods
and
food
security
of
farmers.
As
for
the
huge
gap,
they
have
called
on
the
international
community
to
act
now
through
funding.
However,
by
the
end
of
February,
just
US
$69
million
had
been
promised.
This
most
alarming
crisis
has
developed
and
is
worsening
in
East
Africa.
The
funds
needed
to
control
the
situation
become
very
difficult
to
achieve
and
the
gap
is
a
big
concern.
【文章大意】本文是一篇新闻报道。文章讲述了东非发生了严重的沙漠蝗虫灾害,

Why
does
the

there.
B.
There

grasslands.
C.
Africa

D.
Good

【解析】选D。细节理解题。根据第一段可知,
东非正在经历几十年来最严重的沙漠蝗虫灾害,
气候活动加速了该地区害虫的繁殖。即蝗虫危机在东非发生的原因是气候条件有利于蝗虫的繁殖。故选D。
2.

A.
To

C.
To

D.
To

a
picture
of
the

Africa.
【解析】选A。推理判断题。根据第二段可知,
八个东非国家中有六个国家的
2
000万人受持续不断的沙漠蝗虫的影响最大,
面临严重的粮食不安全风险。蝗虫被认为是最具破坏力的害虫之一,
一只成年蝗虫每天可以吃掉2克植物,
从而影响农作物和草原。通常每平方千米的一个蝗虫群会有2
000万至1.
5亿只蝗虫,
它们每天可以移动数百千米,
入侵面积达数百万平方千米的地区。因此,
移动中的蝗虫群可以在很短的时间内破坏农作物和草原。因此判断出作者在第2段中列出这些数字是为了警告人们蝗虫会造成严重的损失及破坏。

【解析】选B。推理判断题。根据倒数第二段可知,
对于资金的严重不足,
粮食及农业组织呼吁国际社会立即筹款。然而,
到2月底,
仅筹措到6
900万美元。因此我们可以推断出需要更多资金来预防危机。

【解析】选C。主旨大意题。通读全文可知,
文章讲述了东非发生了严重的沙漠蝗虫灾害,
预计在未来几周内蝗虫数量会急剧增加。粮食及农业组织呼吁国际社会立即筹集资金采取行动控制沙漠蝗虫灾害。目前控制局势所需的资金变得非常难以实现,
缺口是一个大问题。因此文章的最佳标题是C项(蝗灾危机的资金缺口)。

With
the
undeniable
increase
in
greenhouse
emissions
on
Earth,
there
can
be
no
doubt
that
the
earth
is
becoming
warmer,
and
scientific
studies
have
proven
that
if
we
carry
on
living
the
way
we
do,
then
global
temperatures
will
rise
even
more.
So
what
exactly
does
this
mean
for
the
future
of
our
planet?
Global
warming
will
in
fact
cause
extreme
weather
conditions,
meaning
that
our
winters
would
be
even
colder
than
they
are
now.
More
than
that,
warmer
temperatures
will
lead
to
the
melting
of
ice
in
the
north
and
south
poles,
which
in
turn
will
lead
to
rising
sea
levels
across
the
globe.
This
is
particularly
troubling
for
low
coastal
regions
and
some
island
countries.
In
1,
000
years
or
so,
all
these
places
will
be
flooded
underwater.
So
where
will
we
be
able
to
live?
Unless
we
can
find
a
way
to
evolve
into
mermaids
and
mermen,
which
doesn’t
look
promising,
the
only
solution
is
to
move
elsewhere.
There
will
be
little
choice
left
once
a
large
proportion
of
the
land
is
lost
to
the
sea,
and
other
remaining
places
will
be
so
hot
that
it
will
be
absolutely
impossible
for
us
to
survive.
Countries
that
we
consider
to
be
hot
these
days
will
be
even
more
so
if
temperatures
increase
by
5,
10,
even
15
degrees.
It
is
possible,
then,
that
the
once
frozen
poles
of
the
Arctic
and
Antarctica
will
be
suitable
enough
to
live
in,
having
melted
its
ice
and
warmed
up.
It’s
scary
to
think
of
our
descendents(后代)
struggling
to
survive
in
a
virtually
uninhabitable
world.
Perhaps
if
people
start
to
realize
how
their
actions
now
can
have
such
an
impact
on
future
generations,
they
will
change
their
attitude
and
start
to
think
more
about
caring
for
the
environment.
If
not,
we’ll
be
living
in
a
world
underwater
and
will
need
to
think
of
a
way
to
turn
ourselves
into
mermaids!
【文章大意】如果不改变我们现在的生活方式,

girls.
Recently,
while
out
on
my
morning
hike
before
starting
lessons,
I
noticed
that
the
sky
was
a
beautiful
blue,
and
the
air
was
filled
with
the
sweet
smell
of
flowers.
That’s
why
I
decided
that
the
day’s
lessons
would
be
taught
outside,
although
I
remembered
that
my
daughters
hadn’t
had
any
science
classes
from
my
husband
for
a
while.
I
returned
to
the
house
to
get
the
girls
ready.
We
headed
up
into
the
forest,
settling
ourselves
by
a
pond
that
rarely
has
any
visitors.
My
daughter
Saoirse
started
to
pick
up
pond
weeds
and
catch
frogs,
while
my
other
daughter
Ula
looked
at
me,
waiting
to
be
instructed.
I
handed
her
a
drawing
board
and
colored
pencils.
“We
wait,
”
I
told
her,
“and
see
if
something
comes
along.
In
the
meantime,
just
draw
what’s
around
you.
”
We
worked
for
more
than
an
hour,
hardly
speaking.
A
bird
flew
across
the
water,
and
then
settled
in
front
of
a
fallen
tree.
I
quickly
told
Ula,
worried
that
she’d
not
seen
the
creature.
But
she
had,
and
she
started
drawing
it.
An
hour
later,
she
finished
her
picture
and
I
stared
down
at
it.
She
drew
the
bird
on
her
paper
with
amazing
accuracy.
But
there
was
one
other
interesting
fact
about
this
drawing:
she
also
drew
me,
sitting
beside
her.
I
realized,
as
I
stared
at
this
child’s
drawing
of
us
watching
a
bird,
how
I’d
lived
for
40
years,
gathered
10
years
of
higher
education,
and
never
understood
the
foundation
of
science
before
this
moment.
The
foundation
of
science
is
a
sense
of
wonder;
it
isn’t
about
accurately
reciting
words
from
a
textbook.
It
is
first
and
foremost
about
stepping
outside
our
busy
lives
and
marvelling
at
the
world
around
us.

SPA

a

capable
of

that
attracts

To
compare,
it’s
the
same

a

Paul

the
inventor
of
SPA,
knows
all

well
the

that’s

The
