第二部分 阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
(A)
Cold weather has a great effect on how our minds and our bodies work. Maybe that is why there are so many expressions that use the word “cold”. For centuries, the body’s blood has been linked closely with the emotions. People who show no human emotions or feelings, for example, are said to be cold-blooded. Cold-blooded people act in a merciless way. They may do brutal things to others, and not by accident. For example, a newspaper says the police are searching for a cold-blooded killer. The killer murdered someone, not in self-defense. He seemed to kill with no emotion.
Cold can affect other parts of the body, the feet, for example. Heavy socks can warm your feet, if your feet are really cold. But there is an expression梩o get cold feet梩hat has nothing to do with cold or your feet. The expression means being afraid to do something you decided to do. For example, you agree to be president of an organization. But then you learn that all the other officers have resigned. All the work of the organization will be your responsibility. You are likely to get cold feet about being president when you understand the situation.
Cold can also affect your shoulder. You 揼ive someone the cold shoulder when you refuse to speak to him. You treat him in a distant, cold way. The expression probably comes from the physical act of turning your back towards someone, instead of speaking to him face-to-face. You may give a cold shoulder to a friend who has not kept a promise he made to you or to someone who has lied about you to others.
揂 cold fish is not a fish. It is a person. But it is a person who is unfriendly, unemotional and show no love or warmth. A cold fish does not offer much of himself to anyone.
“Out in the cold” is an expression often heard. It means not getting something that everybody else got. A person might say that everybody but him got a pay raise. He was left out in the cold. And it is not a pleasant place to be.
21.The passage is intended to tell us that________
A.cold weather has a great effect on human bodies
B.many English expressions contain the word “cold”
C.cold is a word closely linked with human emotions
D.the word “cold” has many different meanings in English
22.The underlined word “brutal” in Paragraph 1 most probably means“________”.
A.impolite B.illegal C.cruel D.extreme
23.You can say Tom ____ if the teacher gives all the boys except him a pen as a prize.
A.is given the cold shoulder B.is left out in the cold
C.has got cold feet D.is murdered by a cold-blooded killer
24.We can draw a conclusion from the passage that ________.
A. all the expressions of the “cold” in this passage have negative meanings
B. all the expressions containing the word cold have something to do with cold
C. people who show no human emotions or feelings have cold blood
D. many parts of the human body can be badly affected by cold

He expressed his joy just as he抎 witnessed her defeating Mount Qomolangma! 揝he cheered and celebrated! I wish I抎 recorded it! His words comforted me. My daughter had beat her mountain.
As she ran toward me, I recognized something I hadn抰 before. I saw her perseverance(毅力). I saw her strength. I saw a hero.

For the first time, a generation of children is going through adolescence with smartphones ever-present. Jean Twenge , a professor of psychology at San Diego State University, has a name for these young people born between 1995 and 2012:"iGen". She says, “Members of this generation are physically safer than those who came before them. They drink less they learn to drive later. " "But psychologically," she argues, "they far more easily get hurt. It's not an overstatement to describe iGen as being on the edge of the worst mental health crisis in decades.''
Today's teens are just not spending as much time with their friends face-to-face where they can really read each others' emotions and get that social support. And we know from lots of research that spending time with other people in person is one of the best predictors for psychological well-being and one of the best protections against having mental health issues. They're more likely than young people just 5 or 10 years ago to say that they're anxious, and that they have symptoms of depression.
How much of a factor is parenting? 揚arenting is playing a role. Many parents are worried about their teens driving, and going out with their friends and drinking. Yet parents are often not worrying about their teens who stay at home on their phones all the time. But they should be worried about that. I think parents are worried about the wrong thing," Professor Twenge remarked.
She proposes several helpful solutions, "The first is just awareness that spending a lot of time on the phone is not harmless and that if you're spending a lot of time on the phone, then it may take away time from activities that might be more beneficial for psychological well being, like spending time with people in person. And then for parents, I think it is a good idea to delay giving your child a smartphone as long as you can.
29. What does iGen refer to according to the text?
A. Generation with high intelligence.
B. Generation in information age.
C. Physically strong generation.
D. Psychologically healthy generation.
30. How can today's teens avoid mental health crisis?
A. By making more friends online.
B. By seeing psychologists frequently.
C. By reading others' emotions constantly.
D. By communicating with friends face to face.
31. What should parents concern according to Professor Twenge?
A. Their teens' chatting with classmates.
B. Their teens' poor school performance.
C. Their teens' addiction to smart phones.
D. Their teens' staying out with their friends.

Why have so many awards ceremonies appeared recently? Shakespeare never won a prize, nor did Leonardo da Vinci or Adam Smith or Charles Dickens.
It would be possible to say, however, that in the past, scientists and artists could win 搒upport from rich people梐 king or a lord would give the artist or scientist money to have them paint their palaces or help them develop new ways of making money. With the change in social systems across the world, this no longer happens. A lot of scientific research is now either funded by the state or by private companies. Perhaps awards ceremonies are just the most recent face of this process.
However, there is more to it than that. When a film wins an Oscar, many more people will go and see it or buy the DVD. When a writer wins the Nobel prize, many more people will buy his or her books. When a group wins the MTV awards, the ceremony is seen by hundreds of thousands of people across the world. The result? Undoubtedly, the group will sell lots more records.
Most awards ceremonies are now sponsored by big organizations or companies. This means that it is not only the person who wins the award that benefits but also the sponsors. The MTV awards, for example, are great for publicizing not only music but also MTV itself!
On the surface, it seems to be a 搘in-win situation, with everyone being happy, but let me ask you two questions梙ow far do you think that publicity and marketing are winning here, and how much genuine recognition of achievement is taking place?
32.Why are some successful people like Shakespeare mentioned at the beginning of the passage?________
A. To show great admiration. B. To answer the question.
C. To prepare for the topic. D. To provide the background.
33.Artists and scientists used to receive money from .?
A. rich people’s support B. the government
C. different awards D. sales of their works
34.The writer thinks awards actually do a better job in .?
A. getting the winners’ great achievements recognized
B. earning more money for the awards ceremony sponsors
C. improving the status of the greatest scientists or artists
D. financially supporting a scientist抯 or an artist抯 work
35.What is the writer抯 attitude towards awards ceremonies?
A. Subjective. B. Indifferent. C. Doubtful. D. Approving.

第二节:书面表达(满分25分)
Dear Tom,
Glad to receive your letter. And I'm writing to tell you something about Chinese high school students' physical exercise.
With the increasing pressure from the national college entrance exam, more and more students have to sacrifice the time for sports to prepare for the exam, which is so important for their future development. They only have one P.E. class a week, obviously not enough. Actually, most of the students are eager to take part in sports, but they are so occupied with their study.
In my view, although it is important for them to have a better performance in the exam, health is equally important. Without a strong body, we would achieve nothing in our life. I hope all students can reorganize their timetable and try to build up their body.
Yours
Li Hua
