Race
walking
shares
many
fitness
benefits
with
running,
research
shows,
while
most
likely
contributing
to
fewer
injuries.
It
does,
however,
have
its
own
problem.
Race
walkers
are
conditioned
athletes.
The
longest
track
and
field
event
at
the
Summer
Olympics
is
the
50-kilometer
race
walk,
which
is
about
five
miles
longer
than
the
marathon.
But
the
sport’s
rules
require
that
a
race
walker’s
knees
stay
straight
through
most
of
the
leg
swing
and
one
foot
remain
in
contact
(接触)
with
the
ground
at
all
times.
It’s
this
strange
form
that
makes
race
walking
such
an
attractive
activity,
however,
says
Jaclyn
Norberg,
an
assistant
professor
of
exercise
science
at
Salem
State
University
in
Salem,
Mass.
Like
running,
race
walking
is
physically
demanding,
she
says,
According
to
most
calculations,
race
walkers
moving
at
a
pace
of
six
miles
per
hour
would
burn
about
800
calories(卡路里)
per
hour,
which
is
approximately
twice
as
many
as
they
would
burn
walking,
although
fewer
than
running,
which
would
probably
burn
about
1,000
or
more
calories
per
hour.
However,
race
walking
does
not
pound
the
body
as
much
as
running
does,
Dr.
Norberg
says.
According
to
her
research,
runners
hit
the
ground
with
as
much
as
four
times
their
body
weight
per
step,
while
race
walkers,
who
do
not
leave
the
ground,
create
only
about
1.4
times
their
body
weight
with
each
step.
As
a
result,
she
says,
some
of
the
injuries
associated
with
running,
such
as
runner’s
knee,
are
uncommon
among
race
walkers.
But
the
sport’s
strange
form
does
place
considerable
stress
on
the
ankles
and
hips,
so
people
with
a
history
of
such
injuries
might
want
to
be
cautious
in
adopting
the
sport.
In
fact,
anyone
wishing
to
try
race
walking
should
probably
first
consult
a
coach
or
experienced
racer
to
learn
proper
technique,
she
says.
It
takes
some
practice.
24.
Why
are
race
walkers
conditioned
athletes?
A.
They
must
run
long
distances.
B.
They
are
qualified
for
the
marathon.
C.
They
have
to
follow
special
rules.
D.
They
are
good
at
swinging
their
legs.
25.
What
advantage
does
race
walking
have
over
running?
A.
It’s
more
popular
at
the
Olympics.
B.
It’s
less
challenging
physically.
C.
It’s
more
effective
in
body
building.
D.
It’s
less
likely
to
cause
knee
injuries.
26
What
is
Dr.
Norberg’s
suggestion
for
someone
trying
race
walking?
A.
Getting
experts’
opinions.
B.
Having
a
medical
checkup.
C.
Hiring
an
experienced
coach.
D.
Doing
regular
exercises.
27.
Which
word
best
describes
the
author’s
attitude
to
race
walking?
A.
Skeptical.
B.
Objective.
C.
Tolerant.
D.
Conservative.
C
Most
cities
were
built
on
rivers.
People
originally
settled
in
Paris
because
of
the
Seine,
and
in
London
for
the
Thames.
A
third
of
New
York
City’s
surface
area
is
water.
For
centuries,
city
folk
used
rivers
for
shipping,
wastes,
fishing
and
play.
The
Industrial
Revolution
ruined
rivers
for
more
than
a
century.
Huge
new
urban
populations
overwhelmed
them
with
the
pollution
from
wastes,
factories
and
ships.
In
recent
decades,
rivers
lost
their
industrial
function
and
cities
began
cleaning
them
up.
The
Thames
is
now
the
cleanest
it
has
been
in
150
years
and
proud
of
seals
and
the
occasional
whale,
sometimes
alive.
In
cities
from
Chicago
to
provincial
China,
dirty
riverside
warehouses
have
been
turned
into
restaurants
and
apartments.
But
rivers
also
need
to
regain
their
original
purpose
as
transport
centers.
Cities
are
shifting
more
traffic
back
to
the
river
—
but
this
time
cleanly
and
silently,
using
the
coming
generation
of
electric
ferries.
Ferries
already
transport
2.1
billion
passengers
a
year.
Numbers
have
been
rising
in
San
Francisco,
New
York
and
Sydney,
while
London
plans
to
double
its
annual
total
of
riders
to
20
million
by
2035.
Imagine
using
the
huge
capacity
of
shipping
to
take
delivery
trucks
off
the
roads.
One
of
the
newer
Thames
boat
with
a
capacity
of
1,750
tons
can
replace
44
large
trucks.
Even
without
being
electric-powered,
it
uses
much
less
energy
per
ton
and
causes
less
noise
pollution.
In
other
words,
we
need
to
turn
truck
drivers
into
boat
captains.
Delivery
companies
will
need
to
build
new
distribution
centres
on
cheap
riverside
land.
When
their
boats
stop
at
the
new
downtown
wharves(码头),
electric
cargo(货物)
bikes
will
deliver
packages
the
last
mile.
Boat-to-bike
is
more
complicated
than
delivery
by
truck,
because
it
adds
a
stage.
You
might
have
to
pay
more
to
get
your
parcels
the
same
day.
As
for
the
advantage,
it
will
unblock
city
centres.
Rivers
are
the
reason
our
cities
are
where
they
are.
We
just
forgot
about
them.
28.Why
is
the
Thames
mentioned
in
paragraph
3?
A.To
praise
the
efforts
of
the
government.
B.To
explain
the
current
healthy
ecosystem.
C.To
stress
the
importance
of
the
Industrial
Revolution.
D.To
show
the
return
of
some
rivers’
original
conditions.
29.What’s
the
advantage
of
boat-to-bike
delivery?
A.It
cleans
up
the
rivers.
B.It
speeds
up
the
delivery.
C.It
is
likely
to
reduce
the
cost.
D.It
eases
the
pressure
of
traffic.
30.Which
is
the
following
may
the
author
agree
with?
A.Boat-to-bike
delivery
is
too
complex
to
make.
B.Rivers
should
serve
as
the
transport
center
like
before.
C.London
has
doubled
its
number
of
electric-bike
riders.
D.The
cleanups
of
the
river
put
an
end
to
its
industrial
function.

七选五(共5题,每题2分,共10分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Forgetfulness
can
be
a
normal
part
of
aging.
31
As
a
result,
some
people
may
notice
that
it
takes
longer
to
learn
new
things;
they
don’t
remember
information
as
well
as
they
did,
or
they
lose
things
like
their
glasses,
cellphones
or
other
small
items.
These
are
usually
signs
of
mild
forgetfulness,
not
serious
memory
problems.
32
For
example,
medication
side
effects,
vitamin
B12
shortage,
alcoholism,
tumors(肿瘤)or
infections
in
the
brain
can
cause
memory
loss.
A
doctor
should
treat
serious
medical
conditions
like
these
as
soon
as
possible.
Emotional
problems,
such
as
stress,
anxiety
or
depression,
can
make
a
person
more
forgetful.
For
instance,
someone
who
has
recently
retired
or
who
is
coping
with
the
death
of
a
relative
or
a
friend
may
feel
sad,
lonely
or
worried.
33
The
confusion
and
forgetfulness
caused
by
emotions
are
usually
temporary
and
go
away
when
the
feelings
fade.
The
emotional
problems
can
be
eased
by
supportive
friends
and
family.
34
Treatment
may
include
counseling,
medication
or
both.
If
you’re
concerned
that
you
or
someone
you
know
has
a
serious
memory
problem,
talk
with
your
doctor.
35
Health
care
professionals
can
recommend
ways
to
manage
the
problem
or
make
suggestions
on
treatment
or
services
that
might
help
you
out.
A.Consider
participating
in
clinical
trials
or
studies.
B.It’s
advisable
to
have
health
issues
treated
in
time.
C.He
or
she
can
diagnose
the
problem
or
refer
you
to
a
specialist.
D.But
if
they
last
for
a
long
time,
it
is
necessary
to
get
help
from
a
doctor.
E.Some
memory
problems
are
related
to
health
issues
that
may
be
treatable.
F.As
people
get
older,
changes
occur
in
all
parts
of
the
body,
including
the
brain.
G.Trying
to
deal
with
these
life
changes
leaves
some
people
confused
or
forgetful.

完形填空(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分)
We’ve
all
seen
ambulances
come
speeding
down
the
road,
prepared
to
help
when
disaster
36
.
But
sometimes
even
an
ambulance
can’t
37
fast
enough
to
save
someone’s
life.
In
38
like
that,
Eli
Beer
hopes
to
save
the
day.
Beer
is
the
founder
of
United
Hatzalah,
a
volunteer-run
organization
in
Israel,
39
to
saving
lives.
Every
year
many
people
die
waiting
for
an
ambulance
to
arrive
because
the
ambulance
got
40
in
traffic
or
was
simply
too
far
away.
Trying
to
solve
this
problem
by
using
motorcycles,
Beer
41
a
team
of
volunteers
from
all
42
and
stages
of
life
and
trained
them
to
respond
to
emergencies.
He
then
gave
each
of
them
a
motorcycle
equipped
with
medical
43
.
Then
the
volunteer
went
44
to
their
daily
lives.
United
Hatzalah
has
a
call
center
staffed
45
by
volunteers.
When
someone
calls
to
tell
them
of
an
emergency,
they
answer
it
in
three
46
or
less.
Then
Beer’s
technology
calculates
which
volunteer
is
closest
to
the
47
.
As
soon
as
that
volunteer
is
notified(通知),
he

the
50
.
The
goal
is
51
:
Keep
the
patient
alive
until
the
regular

arrives.
According
to
Beer,
an
ambulance’s
average
response
time
is
12
to
15
minutes,
while
United
