In this procedure, try to make students know how to describe a school leavers’ party.
Here I want you to look at two pictures. Please tell me what they are doing.

They are having a School Leavers’ Party. They are very happy.
I think at the school leavers’ party, maybe some of you will sing and dance. Now look at the picture on Page 80 and answer the questions.
(The students are talking about the picture.)

Listening
1. First read the words in the box in Activity 2 after the teacher in order to read them fluently and have a clear understanding of them.
2. Read through the questions in Activity 2 in order to know what the material is about.

It was the last day of the final examination in a college. On the steps of building, a group of engineering students were waiting for the last exam. On their faces was confidence.
They knew the exam would be easy. The professor (a teacher at a college) had said they could bring any books or notes during the test.
Right after they came into the classroom. The professor handed out the papers. There were only five questions on it.
Three hours passed. Then the professor began to collect the papers. The students no longer looked confident. On their faces was nervous expression. The professor watched the worried faces before him, and then asked, "How many of you have completed all five questions?" No hand was raised. "How many of you have answered four?" Still no hands. "Three? Two?" The students moved restlessly in their seats. "One, then? Certainly somebody has finished one." But the class kept silent. The professor said, "That is exactly what I expected. I just want to make you know clearly that even though you have completed four years of engineering, there are still many things about the subject you don't know. These questions you could not answer are common in everyday practice. " Then, smiling, he added, "You will all pass this course, your education has just begun. "

(合成构词法) and Derivation(派生构词法).
英语的构词法主要有两种,一种是合成,另一种是派生。合成指由两个或多个单词合成一个新词,而派生是通过加前缀或后缀构成新词。
1.合成构词法
合成构词法是一种比较灵活的方法,可以合成名词、形容词、副词、代词、动词等。常用单词afternoon, birthday, blackboard, bathroom, newspaper, airplane, classmate, grandfather就是通过合成法构成的名词;kind-hearted, middle-aged, hard-working 等为合成形容词;however, maybe, himself, everyone, nothing等也都是通过合成法构成的新词。Can you give some examples about compounds?
S1: roommate, policeman, grandparents, which are all nouns by Compounding.
S2: well-educated, warm-hearted, which are adjectives by Compounding.

Years ago, a college teacher gave a group of graduate students this job: Go to a poor place. Take 200 boys, between the ages of 12 and 16, and find out their living environment. Then predict their chances for the future.
