第二部分 阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)
( 共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
Passage A
We have some practically secret national parks on our lists that you'll want to visit this spring.
Guadalupe Mountains National Park
The most visually striking point here is El Capitan. The massive cliff (悬崖), 2.5 times as tall as the Empire State Building, towers over the rest of the park, which offers you a perfect spot for taking impressive pictures. You can also wander the Salt Basin Dunes, 2,000 acres of shockingly white sands. If you're taking very long hikes, bring plenty of water and some protein-rich snacks.
Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument
The Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument preserves more than 87,500 acres of wild rivers and thick forests. In addition to hiking and camping, Katahdin is a great spot for hunting and fishing. Bring some hiking boots and perhaps trekking poles (登山杖)to cross these rocky forest trails. The park has a day use fee of $5, and the first-come, first-serve campsites cost $8 per night.
North Cascades National Park
Though the snowy peaks of the North Cascades are dangerous in the winter, it turns into a thick and green park in the warmer months, filled with beautiful mountain valleys and clear lakes. You can take a guided nature hike or go fishing. Winter driving conditions in the North Cascades can be dangerous, due to water, frost, snow, or ice on the roads.
Organ Mountains.—Desert Peaks National Monument
This is not a national park, but is a national monument. It is home to several rare species of plants and animals, and lava (熔岩)flow. There are excellent chances for hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, and nature photography, as well as overnight hiking. You can also go primitive camping anywhere in the monument for free. It's highly recommended that you should bring plenty of water and sunscreen, and know your fitness level ahead of time.
21.What may attract a photographer most to go to the first park?
A.The steep cliff. B.The low ticket price.
C.The towers in the park. D.The particularly white sands.
22.How much should one pay for camping in the second park for 2 days and 1 night?
A.$15. B.$18. C.$21. D.$24.
23.What can you do when camping in the fourth park?
A.You are only allowed to camp in daytime.
B.You can only stay one night there for free.
C.You can feed rare animals.
D.You should be well-prepared.
Passage B
Darrell Blatchley, a marine biologist and environmentalist based in the Philippine city of Davao, received a call from the Philippines, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (渔业与水产资源局) early Friday morning reporting a death of a young whale.
When the necropsy (尸检) was performed, Blatchley told NPR, he was not prepared for the amount of plastic they found in the whale’s stomach. “It was full of plastic nothing but nonstop plastic.” he said “It was filled to the point that its stomach was as hard as a baseball.” That means that this animal has been suffering not for days or weeks but for months or even a year or more,” Blatchley added.
Blatchley is the founder and owner of the D’Bone Collector Museum, a natural history museum in Davao. In the coming days, the museum will display all the items found in the whale’s system. Blatchley and his team work with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources and other organizations to assist in rescue and recovery of marine animals.
“Within the last 10 years, we have recovered 61 whales and dolphins just within the Davao Gulf,” he said. “Of them, 57 have died due to man whether they took plastic or fishing nets or other waste, or gotten caught in pollution — and four were pregnant.”
Blatchley said he hoped that the latest incident would launch the issue of plastic pollution in the Philippines and across the globe. “If we keep going this way, it will be more uncommon to see an animal die of natural causes than it is to see an animal die of plastic,” he said.
24.What can be inferred from the second paragraph?
A.The whale was starved to death.
B.Blatchley was shocked at what he found.
C.The dead whale must have swallowed a baseball.
D.Blatchley didn’t make preparations for the necropsy.
25.What will be shown in the D’Bone Collector Museum?
A.Waste collected from the ocean.
B.The whole system of the whale.
C.Things found in the whale’s body.
D.Many different tools of whaling.
26.What does Blatchley think of plastic pollution in the Philippines?
A.Uncommon. B.Worrying. C.Inspiring. D.Mild.
27.What is the best title for the text?
A.A Whale Found Dead of Plastic
B.Stand Up for Protecting Whales
C.Plastic Threatening Our Existence
D.Natural Death or Merciless Murder
Passage C
Not all bad emotions (情感) are necessarily bad. In fact, they can direct your behaviour in useful ways. If you’re stuck in traffic, anger with the situation might motivate you to find an alternative route (线路), which will then relieve your stress. But anger is less useful if you’re in the same situation, but stuck on a motorway with no option to alter directions.
Emotions have physiological effects, such as raising the level of cortisol in your bloodstream, which can affect your health. Indeed, a new study, published in Psychology and Aging, shows that high levels of anger are associated with poor health in older people.
The Canadian study did the study on 226 adults aged 59-93. They took blood samples to assess levels of chronic (慢性的) low-grade inflammation (炎症) and asked the participants to report any age-related chronic illnesses they might have. The participants also completed a short questionnaire about the level of anger or sadness they experienced in three typical days over a one-week period.
For the analysis, the researchers considered whether age could affect the results. They found that higher levels of anger were associated with inflammation and ill health in the oldest participants (aged 80 and above), but not the youngest ones (59-79 years). Sadness was not associated with inflammation or ill health in either age group.
The study is cross-sectional, meaning that it assessed a group of people at a single point in time. To get a fuller understanding of the relationship between bad emotions and health, we need studies that follow participants for a period of time — so-called prospective observation studies. Future studies should also take into account other factors that might relate, such as other emotions, stress and personality.
Although this new research shows a link between emotion and health in older age, we do not know whether anger causes inflammation and illness or whether health problems make people angrier.
28.What does the underlined word “alter” in paragraph 1 mean?
A.Change. B.Control. C.Measure. D.Operate.
29.Why were participants taken blood samples?
A.To analyze their levels of health.
B.To fill in the form of questionnaires.
C.To know the levels of some inflammation.
D.To compare the change of anger in three days.
30.What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.Anger is the greatest danger to health.
B.The influence of anger on illness is unclear.
C.People in poor health are easy to get angry.
D.Evidence is needed to prove the effect of health.
31.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Adjusting Our Emotions Is Necessary
B.Bad Emotions Affect People’s Feelings
C.New Conclusions Make People Amazed
D.Anger Is Linked to Illness in Old Age
Passage D
It is reported that a record-breaking high-speed rail will connect Inner Mongolia in the north to Hainan in the south. According to the Shaanxi Development and Reform Commission, the proposed line will operate at a speed of 350 kilometers per hour(217 mph).

How to stay focused in class
Being relaxed during class is a bad habit, and it is also bad to your grade. Focusing in class not only proves to teachers that you are a capable student but also shows that you have the ability to control yourself, which will be very important.
36 . No matter how much you want to sit with your friends during the class, try your best to avoid them. Talking with friends around you is not going to give you the focus in class. This will get you into trouble.
Look at teacher and make eye contact. Your teacher is not just standing up there talking. 37 . Show the teacher that he or she has your full attention by looking them in the eye. This person should have your full attention at all times during class.
Take notes. By taking notes, you'll be able to "get into" the lesson. Write down key points as your teacher speaks. And listen to the key phrases such as "This is important" "This is the main idea" "This will be the test" etc. 38 .
Get involved in class discussions. This is a wonderful way to become a more focused, successful student. When a teacher asks a question, offer to answer it. 39 . This shows the teacher that you are listening carefully during the class.
Ask a question. 40 . This really shows your teacher that you want to be better, and can recognize
the things you are having difficulty with. Chances are that someone else in the class has the same question ( and was too afraid to ask!). They'll be relieved, and so will you.
A. Avoid sitting with friends.
B. This can help you listen more attentively.
C. If he or she ask for an opinion, share your own.
D. Talking with friends makes you lose interest in class.
E. He or she is trying to give you an acceptable education.
F. The more quickly you answer, the more attention you pay.
G. If you don't understand something, never be afraid to ask.

I have a warm story to share with you. The school in San Francisco not only accepted a deaf student, but also teach the entire class sign language to allow them to better communicate with him.
It was in September last year when a woman asked the primary school to accept her six-year-old son, James, who, unfortunate, has a hearing disability. The teacher, Lily, was agreed almost immediately. Therefore, on the first day of school, she noticed James sit all by himself, unable to communicate with any of his classmates. To find a solution, he came up with a brilliant idea — getting the whole class to learn sign language along with James. So they got a sign language teacher on board. And a couple of month later, James was able to communicate all his classmates about homework and games.

作文范文
Dear Tom,
You are a celebrity in aiding those who are in trouble because of personal life and work. I'm writing to ask you of a favor and hope you will be kind enough to give me some instructions.
Recently,Lisa,my best friend from my childhood, didn't treat me the way before. What made our relationship less close was an accidental argument on how to get on well with parents. We hold quite different opinions on that. Since then we have seldom spoken to each other, which really makes me sad and depressed. I am at such a loss over what I can do to make up and in need of your help. I will be extremely grateful if you could give me some advice.
Looking forward to your early reply. Best wishes for you.
Yours Li Hua
录音原文
Text 1
M: Can you come to my house tonight, Maria? I’ve got a new video game.
W: I don’t like video games, Joe. But I want to hang out with you in the park after I finish my homework.
M: Sounds like a good idea. (1)
Text 2
M: Remember, when you go to America, you must wait until the light turns green before you cross the road.
W: So I can’t cross, even if the road is clear of traffic?
M: No, otherwise you can be fined. (2)
Text 3
W: If your flight is at 3:00, you need to be at the airport 2 hours earlier to check in.
M: Yes, I know. I want to leave the house at 11:30. That way I can arrive at the airport at 12:30. (3)
Text 4
M: Hi, Linda! What are you doing in this neighborhood? Don’t you live on Main Street downtown?
W: Hi, Nick! My husband and I just moved to a house not far from you. (4) That’s a lot bigger than our old downtown apartment. I was going to visit you tomorrow.
Text 5
W: Did you see that lightning? A big storm is coming. I love storms. They’re so exciting!
M: I don’t mind them as long as I’m already inside a house! (5) But I have to drive home from work later. I hope it doesn’t rain too hard when I’m on the road.
Text 6
M: I don’t think I’ll ever go back to that restaurant again. (6)
W: Do you think the service was bad? Even if it was, the food was good.
M: No. It’s not that. Honestly, I just can’t get over the fact that we had to ask for new plates and forks. Neither was washed correctly. (6)
W: I think it’s just a new restaurant. I am going to leave an honest review online, but I will still say some good things.
M: It’s good to be honest. We’re almost arriving at your house. Should I park in the driveway? (7)
W: Yes, (7) there’s room behind my car.
Text 7
W: I can’t stand it!
M: What’s wrong? Did you fail the history test again?
W: No, not that. We’re reading a part of Hard Times in English literature class. (8) I can’t understand any of it. There are so many people in the story, and I can’t remember who is who! (9)
M: That’s one of Charles Dickens’ greatest stories! It reflects English society of the era. I can’t believe the teacher is only making you read one small part. You won’t be confused if you read the whole book. (9) (10) I can lend you my copy.
W: Thanks, but how can I find the time to read the whole book?
M: The story is quite exciting, and you will read quickly unconsciously. Just try it. (10) Then you will remember everything about it.
W: OK. Thanks for your advice.
Text 8 (第11题为推断题)
W: Hello, Mr. Brown. This is Shirley. I wonder if it would be possible for me to come in a bit late today.
M: What’s up? Is your car broken down on the way or was your bus late?
W: No, no. It’s just that my parents are returning from a long trip, and I’d like to go and pick them up at the train station. (12) Would you mind if I came in at 9:30?
M: What time are your parents coming?
W: The train gets in at 8:10. It means I’ll be about one hour late for work. Would that be all right?
M: Well, Shirley, you know this morning’s meeting with our customers at 9:30 is very important. (13) Isn’t there anyone else in the family who could go?
W: No, I’m afraid there isn’t. I’m the only one with a car. (12) I hope you don’t mind.
M: All right, I suppose you’ll have to go, then. I’ll put off the meeting for half an hour. (13) Try not to be late.
W: OK, thank you very much. Goodbye.
Text 9 (第14题为总结题)
M: I stopped watching TV because the local news and international news were upsetting me. I want to stay informed, but not at the cost of extra anxiety.
W: I understand what you mean. I was getting frustrated with the national news. (15) Then I found the Good News Network. They only show happy news.
M: Really? Like what?
W: There are many things. They have videos of animals seeing their owners again after a long time away. There was also a story about people opening a new stadium in their neighborhood.
M: Was that your favorite? I know you love sports.
W: No, actually. My favorite story was about these two children in Ohio. Apparently, their neighbor was too sick to leave her home. The kids wanted to do something nice so they put on a performance for her. (16) (17)
M: What did they do, dance in the street or something? I can’t imagine two kids could manage a show like a play.
W: No. They played the classical music on their violins. (17) There’s a video on the Internet if you’d like to see. Let me show you on my phone.
M: Sounds good.
Text 10
Japan has built a new stadium for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games which took over 3 years to make. The stadium is big enough to hold 60,000 people and has 5 floors above ground and 2 underground floors. (18) It has a great design which is environmentally friendly, meaning it will not cause damage to the surrounding area and its materials can be taken apart and rebuilt in the future. The idea is to make the stadium be like a forest stadium, because it is made out of wood from trees from all over Japan. (19) It will also become greener in the summer, not because of the color it has been painted, but because about 50,000 plants have been planted around the stadium to make it look more natural. The stadium’s main space does not have any air conditioners but instead lets the wind cool the stadium down, which saves money on electricity. (20) The 2020 Tokyo Olympics were supposed to start in July 2020, but the delay was announced due to the coronavirus. It will be the first summer Olympic event held in Asia since the Beijing Olympics in 2008 and the Seoul Olympics back in 1988.
