作文一(15’)
Sunshine Charity Sale
In order to support the students in mountainous and poverty-stricken areas, our school held the Sunshine Charity Sale last Saturday morning on the square. All of the teachers, students and kind-hearted people attended the event.
In the beginning, a wonderful performance warmed up all the participants. After that, students from each class traded their spare school supplies including interesting magazines, dictionaries and so on with each other. At noon, the host announced that the activity was a complete success, and all the money raised would go to the students in need.
From the activity we know that only if everyone offers a bit of love will the world become a better place to live in.
作文二(25’)
Finally I arrived at Room 512. I turned the key into the lock and pushed the door a little open, with Dad still complaining about a hurting knee or something. I put my head in, expecting the worst. But much to my surprise, the room wasn’t empty at all! It was furnished with two sets of desks and chairs, bookshelves, curtains, a TV, and several pleasant paintings on the walls.
And there on a well-made bed sat a girl, my new roommate. She was dressed simply but neatly. Greeting me with a nod, she said in a soft voice, "Hi, I’m Amy, you must be Cori." Then, she turned down the music and looked over at Dad, "And of course, you’re Mr. Faber,” she said smiling. "Would you like a glass of iced tea?" Dad’s face turned decidedly less red before he could bring out a "yes". I knew then that Amy and I would be friends and my first year of college would be a success.

M: Could you tell me what time the train to Miami leaves?
W: Yes, the next train leaves at 11:00 a.m.
M: Do you know how long it takes?
W: Sure, it takes four hours.

W: I’ve put our photograph on the wall, Tom. It didn’t look good above the cupboard.
M: But you can’t see it by the window. Shall we put it next to the phone?
W: It’ll fall off there. Let’s leave it where it is.
Text 3
W: Dan, could you bring some kind of meat dish to the party for me?
M: Oh, you are asking the wrong person. I only eat fruit and vegetables.
W: Sorry. I forgot. Well, maybe you could bring something else. Let me look at my list to see what else we need.
Text 4
W: Do you have a specific problem that’s bothering you, Mr. Sutcliff?
M: Yes, that’s why I came in for this check-up. This tooth on the right has been giving me a bit of trouble.
Text 5
W: Karl, it says there’ll be a big snowstorm sometime this week. We might have to change our plan to go fishing this weekend.
M: Don’t worry. The weather report says it will be sunny at the weekend.
W: Great!
Text 6
W: Hi, Jim.
M: Hi, Mrs. Black. What’s the matter?
W:⑥Jim, weren’t the new job descriptions supposed to be handed out today?
M: Yes, but the copy machine was broken, so we had to go to a printing company to get them done.
W: Good. ⑥We need the newly hired workers to follow the new job descriptions. Can you make sure this is done today?
M: Sure. ⑦I’ll call the printing company to make sure they finish on time.

M: Hi, Jack speaking.
W: This is Rose. I’ve phoned about the wall a couple of times and I’m afraid nothing’s happened.
M: I’m sorry, Rose. I’ll get someone to fix it.
W: The wet area is spreading all the time and it’s getting closer to the electricity wires. It could be very dangerous. ⑨If nothing is done about it soon, I’ll have to find somebody myself to deal with it, and it really won’t be my fault if you receive a very large bill.
Text 8
M: Look at that dog in this video! It looks like it’s dancing!
W: Poor thing. That’s because people put shoes on it. Dogs aren’t supposed to wear shoes.
M: I think it’s great. It keeps the dogs’ feet clean when they go out for a walk. You wouldn’t go outside without shoes on, would you?
W: I’m not a dog. It looks silly.
M: I don’t think so. It looks very cute, actually.
W: And the owners put the poor dog on the Internet, as if it weren’t bad enough that they walk it through the park like that...
M: I would take my dog to the store with shoes on this afternoon.
W: Well, that doesn’t make it right. It’s an animal, not a toy. People shouldn’t dress their animals up like humans and put them online.

M: Welcome to your first week of training in Montana. I’m your captain. You can call me Captain Jones. During this winter term, we will teach you the importance of exercise, teamwork, and communication.
W: We drove all the way here from California! It took a whole day. But it’s worth it!
M: Great! I have your name here on this list, Julia, so you’re already checked in. Go ahead and meet your group and get to know each other.
W: First, I want to know about the special guest that is coming to speak to us!
M: Ah, you’re thinking of General Thompson. He was the captain of the Air Force in World War Ⅱ.
W: Yes! That’s him! My friend Nick and I really want to meet him. We saw a movie about him called Last in Flight.
M: Well, Last in Flight was actually about the general of the Navy, General Richards. He is our special guest next month.
W: What? That’s the whole reason I came to this camp!
M: He is giving a speech in his hometown in Minnesota, so he could not come for this term.

W: A few years ago, everyone was crazy about DIY projects, and the idea of doing-it-yourself became popular. From that idea came a new culture called the maker culture. It’s got the same idea, but it’s based on technology. The idea is to make something new out of existing things. Makers could be young people or old people, but they all are interested in knowledge. They don’t always need the things they’re creating. They usually are doing it because they want to learn new skills. They work with robots, computers, and 3D printers. They get ideas about how to use these things by going on the Internet. There are websites for makers to share their plans and ideas. Why is the maker culture new?People have always loved making things, but even a few years ago, 3D printers were too expensive for the common person to use. Now, most people can buy robots and all kinds of technology. Anything is possible now!
