Deirdre Barrett, a psychologist(心理学家), believes that she has found the secret of dogs’ dreams. She thinks that dogs always dream about their owners. She said, “Humans(人类) dream about the things that they are interested in at daytime. Animals also do the same thing. Dogs usually like their human owners, so they might dream of their owners’ faces.” She even advised dog owners to give their dogs more “happy daytime experiences” so that they can have nice dreams.
Dr. Barrett said that there is no way to know what your dogs really dream about. “We had many studies about humans’ dreams in the past, but we gained nothing. So of course, we knew much less about dogs’ dreams.” she said. However, with the help of other psychologists, she found that dogs also have similar dreams as humans. This is because dogs’ sleep models are similar to humans’. For example, both humans and dogs sleep at night and wake up in the daytime. “So we can guess dogs are dreaming, too.” she said. They also paint pictures, go to concerts and play instruments(乐器). They collect everything from books to butterflies and from shells to stamps.
People take up hobbies because these activities offer enjoyment, friendship, knowledge and relaxation. Sometimes they even get money from their hobbies. Everyone needs friends. 66
The American writer Sally Seamans tells young students some smart ways to find friends. Sally says founding (建立) friendship is just like planting a tree. 67
First, you should choose a friend. What makes a good friend? It is not because a person has money or a good look. 68 For example, if you have a bad day, a good friend could listen to your complains (抱怨) and do his or her best to help you. To make a friend, you can’t be too shy. You should make each other happy and share your life.
69 Even the best friends have fights. What should you do when you have a fight with your friend? You have to talk to him or her. When there is no one around, have a good talk. If he or she doesn’t want to talk, you can write a letter.
There are three steps to be friends again:
Tell him or her how you are feeling. Say what your friend did wrong. 70 Remember that friendship is one of the most important things in your life.
