Mobile
phones
are
one
of
the
most
useful
inventions
of
the
last
50
years,
but
not
everything
that
is
said
about
them
is
good.
Mobiles
are
often
believed
to
be
the
cause
of
a
number
of
things
from
poor
eyesight
and
headaches
to
house
fires.
There's
even
one
theory
that
mobile
phones
should
be
responsible
for
the
disappearance
of
bees!
The
theory
is
that
the
radiation
(辐射)
given
off
by
mobile
phones
does
great
harm
to
bees'
navigation
systems
(导航系统).
Bees
have
built-in
system
a
bit
like
GPS
and
this
helps
them
find
their
way
back
to
their
hives.
But
recently,
thousands
of
bees
have
failed
to
find
their
way
home.
It
is
believed
they
are
dying
far
from
their
hives.
The
problem
was
first
noticed
by
beekeepers
in
America
and
is
a
lot
more
serious
than
it
at
first
seems.
The
important
thing
about
bees
is
that
most
of
the
crops
in
many
countries
of
the
world
are
pollinated
by
them.
Without
bees,
the
crops
can't
continue
to
grow.
Many
beekeepers
in
Europe
have
reported
losing
between
50
and
70
percent
of
their
bees.
Jim
Piper,
London
beekeeper,
said
to
the
reporter,
"My
business
is
becoming
worse.
Twenty-nine
of
my
forty
hives
are
now
empty."
Nobody
knows
for
sure
whether
the
theory
is
true
or
not,
but
it's
a
fact
that
bees
are
disappearing
in
very
large
numbers.
And
we
can't
manage
without
them.
Einstein
said
that
if
all
our
bees
disappeared,
man
would
only
live
for
four
more
years!
If
the
mobile
phone
theory
is
correct,
we
need
to
do
something
about
it
right
now—before
it's
too
late.

What
does
the

in
the
passage
say?
A.
Bees
have
GPS
inside
their
bodies.
B.
Mobiles
have
an
influence
on
bees'
hives.
C.
The
radiation
makes
bees
unable
to
fly.
D.
The
radiation
makes
bees
lose
their
way
home.

Up
to
now,
Wood
has
published
more
than
60
diaries,
and
he
still
updates
the
diaries
frequently
on
social
media
websites.
In
his
first
diary,
he
mentioned,
“news
is
going
around
about
a
bad
cold
virus
in
Wuhan,
but
I
feel
worlds
away
from
me
and
few
people
wear
masks
in
public.”
He
recorded
in
his
diaries
that
thousands
of
medical
workers
from
different
provinces
and
cities
went
to
Hubei
to
help
with
the
anti-epidemic
(抗疫).
Restaurants
and
shops
were
closed
down,
while
supermarkets
checked
people’s
body
temperatures.
And
community
workers
across
the
country
took
strict
action,
asking
people
to
stay
at
home
and
helping
the
old
buy
daily
necessities.
“People
in

countries
said
these
measures
could
cause
panic
among
the
public.
However,
my
experience
in
China
shows
these
efforts
are
useful
and
effective,
which
finally
removed
people’s
fear,”
Wood
said.
Wood’s
diaries
soon
attracted
the
world’s
attention.
Over
10,000
people
left
him
messages
on

and
he
was
interviewed

that

government
had

and

However,since
more
countries
and
regions
have
been

by
the
virus,
more
and
more
people
came
to
realize
how
proper
and
important
China’s

and

measures
are.”
Wood
is
working
with
the
New

his

In

can
build

Hello,
everyone!
I’d
like
to
tell
you
something
about
a
famous
scientist
named
Qian
Xuesen.
He
was
born
in
Hangzhou,
Zhejiang
Province

graduated
from

Jiao
Tong
University

a
chance
to

a
teacher
as
well

a
researcher
who
studied
rockets
and
missile
theories.
When
he
was
44,

to
his
motherland
and
the
country’s
space
research
was
almost
a
blank.
In

on
October

at
the
age
of
98,
but

expressed
in
his
saying,
“My
career
is
in
China,
my
success
is
in
China
and
my
destination
is
in
China!”
When
someone
said
he
could

he
laughed
and
said,
“My

His

pretty
usual
question.
Simon
shook
his
head,
smiling.
He
hardly
listened
or
tried
hard
in
class.
Talking
was
so
much
fun.
He
wanted
to
be
heard
rather
than
listen.
"Listen,
and
you'll
learn
something."
Mrs.
Jacobs
tried
every
day,
but
Simon
never
paid
attention.
That
evening,
his
throat
really
hurt.
The
next
morning,
when
he
opened
his
mouth
to
say
"Good
morning",
nothing
came
out
but
a
croak.
Simon's
mother
looked
at
him.
"Honey,
you've
lost
your
voice."
"Can
I
stay
home?"
He
tried
to
ask,
but
words
didn't
come
out.
Instead,
his
mother
checked
him
for
a
fever
and
decided
it
was
good
for
him
to
go
to
school,
even
if
he
couldn't
talk.
When
he
got
to
school,
Mrs.
Jacobs
said
"Hello"
to
him,
and
he
just
nodded.
When
his
friends
asked
him
what
TV
shows
he
watched
last
night,
he
just
shrugged.
By
the
time
the
bell
rang
for
class,
almost
everyone
was
looking
at
him
as
if
he'd
grown
a
third
eye.
Penny
raised
her
hand.
"Mrs.
Jacobs,
why
isn't
Simon
talking?"
"He
never
stops
talking."
Richard
said
worriedly.
Everyone
started
talking
at
once.
They
were
excited,
worried,
and
surprised.
Simon
sat
in
class
bored.
He
watched
them
talk
to
each
other
as
if
the
teacher
wasn't
there,
but
he
couldn't
even
do
that.
In
math
class
he
could
hold
up
fingers
if
the
answer
was
less
than
10,
but
that
wasn't
fun.
He
decided
to
try
to
pay
attention.
He
could
do
his
homework
that
night.
It
gave
him
TV
and
game
time
with
his
work
all
done.
The
next
day,
even
though
his
voice
was
coming
back,
he
stayed
quiet
again.
The
third
day,
he
could
talk
fine,
but
he
listened
and
raised
his
hand
to
speak.
What
a
difference
that
one
day
made!

What
was
the
problem
with
Simon
that
day?
A.
He
got
a

B.
He
was
late

The
two
boys,
Tom
and
Huck,
were
very
frightened
because
they
worried
about
being
found
by
Injun
Joe
and
his
friend.
Through
the
hole
in
the
floor,
the
two
boys
upstairs
saw
the
men
eat
and
talk.
Then
the
men
were
tired
and
fell
asleep.
Tom
and
Huck
lay
there
for
a
very
long
time.
Finally,
the
two
men
woke
up
and
lifted
up
a
stone
in
the
ground
and
took
out
some
money
they
had
stolen.
Then
Injun
Joe
lifted
up
another
stone
and
found
a
box.
"What's
this?"
Injun
Joe
asked.
The
two
men
pulled
the
box
out
of
the
ground
and
opened
it.
The
two
boys,
Tom
and
Huck,
could
see
there
was
much
money
in
it.
They
were
very
excited.
"There's
thousands
of
dollars
in
the
box!"
said
his
friend.
"It
must
have
been
left
here
by
Murrel,"
said
Injun
Joe.
"What
will
we
do
with
it?"
"We'll
take
it
to
my
hideout(隐匿处)."
"Number
one
or
number
two?"
"Number
two,
under
the
cross."
Then
Injun
Joe
and
his
friend
saw
some
tools
in
the
corner
and
decided
to
go
upstairs.
But
the
stairs
broke
when
Injun
Joe
stood
on
them!
So
the
two
men
left
the
house
and
went
towards
the
river.
Tom
went
home
as
quickly
as
he
could.
The
next
day,
the
two
boys
remembered
the
"Number
two",
thinking
this
must
be
the
number
of
the
room
in
the
hotel.
They
got
all
the
keys
they
could
find
anywhere.
But
Tom
discovered
the
door
was
not
locked.
He
opened
it!

Electric
Cars
Electric
vehicles(电动车辆)
have
been
around
for
more
than
a
hundred
years.
But
they
have
really
been
liked
by
a
large
number
of
people
over
the
last
ten
years.
More
than
three
million
all-electric
cars
trucks
and
vans
are
now
on
the
road
worldwide.
Helping
the
Environment
Most
cars
run
on
gasoline(汽油).
Burning
gasoline
and
other
fossil
fuels(矿物燃料)
produces
greenhouse
gases.
Electric
vehicles
don’t
burn
gasoline.
Instead,
strong
batteries
run
their
electric
engines.
So,
electric
vehicles
don’t
directly
produce
greenhouse
gases.
Poop
Power!
Electric
vehicles
are
better
for
the
environment.
But
they
are
not
perfect.
Their
batteries
often
use
electricity(电)
that
was
made
by
burning
fossil
fuels.
But
an
electric
vehicle
uses
less
energy
than
a
vehicle
that
runs
on
gasoline.
Plus
some
of
the
electricity
comes
from
“greener”
sources,
such
as
solar
and
wind
power.
And
some
may
soon
come
from
a
new
source
—
cow
poop(牛粪)!
An
electric
car
company
has
worked
together
with
a
large
dairy
farm.
They

to

One
of
the
problems
for
electric
vehicles
is
their
limited
range.
This
is
how
far
they
can
travel
before
their
batteries
need
another
charge(充电).
But
now
their
range
is
improving.
Some
new
electric
vehicles
can
travel
almost
three
times
as
far
as
older
ones
did.
Another
problem
is
finding
a
place
to
recharge
the
batteries.
But
the
number
of
charging
stations
is
going
up
as
well.
China
now
has
thousands
more
charging
stations
than
it
did
ten
years
ago.
In
Sweden,
engineers
have
even
designed
a
road
that
will
charge
electric
vehicles
as
they
drive
along.

Part
of
Earth's
beauty
comes
from
its
oceans.
Ocean
scientists
study
the
chemical
make-up
of
the
ocean,
weather
patterns,
the
geography
of
the
ocean
floor,
and
many
other
areas.
Their
work
is
exciting,
although
sometimes
dangerous.
Using
technology
to
do
certain
tasks
helps.
For
example,
robotic
arms
are
used
for
very
dangerous
tasks.
One
basic
part
of
ocean
study
is
understanding
waves
and
how
they
work.
Wind
is
the
great
maker
of
waves.
The
waves
we
know
are
mostly
produced
by
winds
blowing
over
the
sea.
They
are
directly
connected
with
the
wind
speed
and
the
time
that
wind
lasts.
Sometimes
ocean
life
can
be
seen
in
the
wave.
Living
things
seem
to
be
staying
within
the
wave,
moving
slowly
inside
it
as
if
they
were
weightless.
Besides
the
beauty
of
waves,
scientists
are
interested
in
their
technical
ways.
The
diagram
of
waves
shows
how
scientists
examine
waves.
Waves
are
measured
(测量)
from
the
top
(crest)
to
the
bottom
(trough).
This
allows
scientists
to
find
out
the
height
of
a
wave.
They
also
measure
waves
from
crest
to
crest
to
determine
(测定)
the
length
of
a
wave.
During
serious
storms,
huge
waves
might
cut
a
sea
ship
apart.
Ships
are
at
great
risk
of
winding
up
as
broken
pieces
after
being
hit
by
the
force
of
a
huge
wave.
By
understanding
the
ocean,
scientists
can
prevent
this
breakup
of
ships
by
predicting
when
the
water
will
be
too
dangerous
for
people
and
their
ships.
The
study
of
waves
and
the
ocean
also
allows
scientists
to
make
sure
how
certain
beaches
were
formed.
By
studying
the
oceans,
a
great
deal
can
be
learned
about
the
surface
we
live
on.
