1961年4月12日,前苏联的“东方”号宇宙飞船进入太空,尤里.加加林成为世界上第一个进入宇宙空间并从宇宙中看到地球全貌的航空勇士。
1969年7月16日,美国率先登陆月球。
2003年10月15日,中国神州5号飞船的航天员杨利伟登陆月球。
人类首次登上月球(1969年7月21日) 1969年7月16日,巨大的“土星5号”火箭载着“阿波罗11号”飞船从美国肯尼迪角发射场点火升空,开始了人类首次登月的太空征程。美国宇航员尼尔·阿姆斯特朗、埃德温·奥尔德林、迈克尔·科林斯驾驶着阿波罗11号宇宙飞船跨过38万公里的征程,承载着全人类的梦想踏上了月球表面。这确实是一个人的小小一步,但是整个人类迈出的伟大一步。他们见证了从地球到月球梦想的实现,这一步跨过了5000年的时光。

首先,人类居住的地球的能源总归有一天会枯竭,寻求新能源,是人类面临的一重大科研课题。月球作为地球最忠实的卫星,是人类未来赖以生存的能源仓库,它上面的玄武岩里钛铁矿的体积占25%,钛大概有100万亿吨以上,将来人类能直接用这种玄武岩生产水、液氧燃料等资源。月球上还有丰富的矿产资源,象地球上稀缺的铀、稀土等 ,特别是月球土壤中特有的氦―3作为核聚变的原材料,将改变人类社会的能源结构,将成为人类未来取之不竭的能源宝库,月球表面土壤中蕴藏着几百万吨的氦―3,1吨的氦―3所产生的电量足以供全人类使用1年……月球潜在的矿产资源和能源的开发利用前景,是主要航天国家组织探月登月的最主要的动力。
第二、月球表面具有高真空、无磁场、地质构造稳定、弱重力和高洁净的环境,可以进行生物制品和新材料的开发研究;月球背面不受地球无线电波干扰,可以建立月球天文观测基地、实验室,把月球建成人类探求宇宙星空的前沿哨所。总之,月球是人类研究月球科学、天体化学、空间物理、生命科学、对地观测科学与材料科学的理想场所
第三,人类探月登月引发的一系列技术革命和进步,成为社会、经济发展的新技术支撑,带动和促进了一系列基础科学、科学技术的创新和发展,形成了一大批高科技工业群体,产生了显著的社会经济效益。当年美国“阿波罗”登月工程耗资是巨大的,达265亿美元,但它在无线电制导、合成材料、高性能计算机等高科技方面创造出3000多项新技术,从经济效益方面评估,“阿波罗”登月工程每投入1美元就能产出了4到5美元的效益,这说明人类探月登月的经济效益是巨大的,无法估量的。
