Why do some clothes fit us and some don’t It became clear to Louise Wannier in a fashion design class. "We were learning to draw body proportions (比例) just from one model," Wannier, 53, says. "Since women come in all sizes and shapes, I asked the teacher when we would learn about other body proportions. And she said, 'We don’t. There are 5,000 designers, and each one designs only for his own model.’"
Suddenly, Wannier understood why fitting rooms(试衣间) everywhere are full of frustrated women. "I knew right then that there was a business in helping women quickly find clothes for their shape and that it needed to be online."
Wannier, who had already started two successful technology companies, rushed home to begin working on the idea. Two years later, in October 2006, she set up . Customers go online to enter their measurements and are given one of seven body types based on their body proportions.
Seeing models of various shapes and sizes, many businessmen were impressed with Wannier’s idea and put up $32 million, helping her develop the business plan.
Once Wannier set up an online survey for potential customers. Within 24 hours, she got over 700 responses (响应) and a third of them signed up. "We were astonished," recalls Wannier. "It made us believe there was really a demand."
Today, with 700,000 customers and 300 designers, the site has proved its usefulness. "For some weeks," says Wannier, "we get 100-percent customer satisfaction. And designers are very happy: they get a new channel to sell their products and more customers."
While My Shape continues to sign up customers and designers, the company isn’t yet profitable (盈利的). "We just get one percent of the price of the clothes," says Wannier. "In order to make money, we have to attract more customers that will come back again and again."

When students are studying poetry, it’s very important for them to get a feel for the rhythms and sounds of poems —more so than for most pieces of prose(散文). This isn’t always easy in a second language, but listening to the teacher read the poem, or to a professional recording, perhaps by a poet or an actor, can be very helpful.
As with any listening activity, students will need some kind of preparation so as to become actively engaged. They might be asked to check predictions made during a warm-up discussion, to compare rhyming couplets(韵律)they produced with the poet’s, or to identify stressed words and syllables (音节).
You might also want to get your students to listen to recorded or live discussions about poems. This can take the form of a couple of teachers or a group of students giving their views on a poem, or of an interview with the poet.
Information gap activities are often very popular with students, and help them take an active part in listening. For such an activity you might like to:
◆divide your students into two, or even three groups.
◆give each group a different cassette or CD, and a different task to work on.
◆have them share with the class what they have learned when they’ve finished.
Remember that your own enthusiasm is a key factor in any activity related to literature.
Finally, don’t forget to encourage art for art’s sake. Listening for pleasure to poetry (or to anything else, for that matter) motivates students, and encourages them to master new vocabulary. Many good song lyrics are a kind of poetry, and can be treated accordingly in the classroom, copyright laws permitting.
64. We can learn from the passage that _______.
A. English poems are hard for Chinese students to understand
B. listening to recordings is the best way to learn poems
C. teachers should keep silent when students are discussing poems
D. most song lyrics are adapted from poems
65. Which of the following are appropriate preparations for listening
activities
a. Predicting what the poem is about.
b. Having a warm-up discussion.
c. Sharing one’s own work with the class.
d. Making it clear how to pronounce words.
e. Pointing out which syllables are stressed.
A. abc B. abe C. cde D. bcd
66. What do we learn about "information gap" exercises from the passage
A. They often motivate students to learn actively.
B. They reveal a gap in understanding between teachers and students.
C. They can lead to classes going out of control.
D. They can spread information quickly to students.
67. The author intends to tell us ________.
A. how to make good preparation when learning poetry
B. how to make students learn poetry effectively
C. that teachers should encourage students to study poems
D. that preparations should be done before teaching poems
D
The influence of the Internet has caused a change in the way we communicate. The Internet is probably most famous for its ability to spread information.
There is no doubt that easy access to the Internet has changed the nature of people’s connection to others in their social world. But has this communication revolution changed the pure nature of interpersonal and group processes
On the one hand, since the primary use of the Internet is for communication, some people might think that the Internet will have positive social consequences in people’s everyday lives because it increases the frequency and quality of interpersonal communication among people. People with easy access to others would feel better connected and more strongly supported by others, leading to happiness and engagement in families, organizations, communities, and society more generally.
But, on the other hand, the ease of electronic communication may lead to weaker social ties, because people have less reason to leave their home and actually interact (交往) face to face with other people. The Internet allows people to more easily handle all kinds of things from their home. However, researchers show that people sooner or later will convert their cyber contacts into more traditional face-to-face ones, the same as I do. And instead of technology changing people’s social and psychological reality, people change their use of technology to facilitate their creation of a desired social reality.
Internet life cannot stand by itself without real-life communication. Internet users should closely examine their behavior, to ensure that excessive time online will not negatively impact their personal well-being. We shouldn’t throw our computers out the window, but neither should we charge on blindly into complete dependence on the Internet. It should be used in moderation. As with many things in life, it seems that balance is the key to maximizing (使最大化) the Internet’s positive effects.
68 .The underlined phrase "in moderation" probably means"____".
A. properly B. definitely C. frequently D. politely
69.Some people take a very positive view towards the effects of the
Internet on communication because they think it ________.
A. helps improve their computer skills
B. changes their characteristic of shyness
C. makes them communicate more frequently
D. increases their ability to spread information
70. The author suggests Internet users __________.
A. limit their time spent chatting online
B. examine their behavior in real-life communication
C. create a desired social reality through the Internet
D. avoid the negative effects of online contacts
第二节 任务型阅读(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面的短文,并根据要求完成文章后的题目(请注意词数要求)。
Are you so busy to achieve your goals that you are missing out on the views along the way I encourage you to pause for a moment to reflect on your busyness. You should think not only about what you are so busy doing but also how you can do things with less effort and more fun. This will ensure you are moving toward a more enjoyable life.
Following are some practical suggestions for how you can be more effective in your busyness, without the stress.
Organize
Did you know that disorganized people spend up to 30% of their time looking for things If you are busy but continually wasting time searching for car keys or the files you need for your next meeting, then spend some time getting organized.
Make Sure Others Value Your Time
Does the failure of others to keep their promises waste your time Ensure people know that you expect them to value your time. If someone has agreed to do something for you and hasn’t fulfilled on their promise, don’t ignore it. Follow up on it with them. Politely point out that you feel they are not respecting your time, which you value very highly, and ask them to be punctual in the future.
Remove Energy Draining(消耗)"Tolerations"
In life you will get what you tolerate. This refers to those things you often don’t do anything about because, on their own, they don’t seem important enough to bother with. Yet they all add up to weaken the quality of your day.
If there are things in your life that drain your energy, don’t just complain about or put up with it, do something about it! As a general rule in life, you will get whatever you’re prepared to put up with.

Dear Tom,
Glad to hear from you and welcome you to China. In response to your letter, I will tell you some Chinese etiquette you should pay attention to when invited to a Chinese family.
Firstly, you should be a few minutes late, say, about ten minutes so that the host has enough time to get everything prepared. Secondly, you can bring some small gifts; some flowers or cakes should be OK. Thirdly, when you begin to have dinner, guests and seniors should be invited to be seated first. You should pay much attention to your table manners. Last but not the least, when you leave, you should thank the hosts and invite them to dinner at your home next time.
That’s about all that you may wish to take note of. With this, I hope you enjoy your visit!
Best wishes!
Yours sincerely,
