六选四做题技巧指导
利用词汇复现或同义词解题
重复词汇是指关键词以同一形式或不同的词性在文章中反复出现,达到紧扣主题的目的。找到含
有与关键词相同或最接近的单词的选项,然后再来验证句意内容是否通顺。从而达到快而准的效果。一般来说,上下文中词汇的范畴越小,上下文的衔接关系越紧密。
例1:People
think
so
much
of
them
that
on
all
the
highest
pillars
in
the
great
cities
of
the
world
you
will
find
the
figure
of
a
conqueror
or
a
general.
____67____
Even
being
good
at
getting
others
to
fight
most
efficiently
is
not
being
civilized.
Most
people
believe
those
who
have
conquered
the
most
nations
are
the
greatest.
However,
every
year
conflicts
between
countries
and
nations
still
claim
thousands
of
lives.
And
not
only
has
it
won,
but
also
because
it
has
won,
it
has
been
in
the
right.
So
there
has
been
little
time
to
learn
in,
but
there
will
be
oceans
of
time
in
which
to
learn
better.
People
don’t
fight
and
kill
each
other
in
the
streets,
but
nations
still
behave
like
savages.
例2:You
can
show
your
child
how
to
make
choice
between
different
brands
of
a
product
so
that
you
can
save
money.
____5____
If
he
chooses
the
cheaper
brand,
allow
him
to
make
another
purchase
with
the
money
saved.
Wise
decisions.
The
value
of
money.
Permit
the
child
to
choose
between
them.
Tell
your
child
why
he
can—or
cannot—have
certain
things.
Ask
yourself
what
things
that
cost
money
are
most
important
to
YOU
Talk
about
how
the
money
bought
the
thing
after
you
leave
the
toy
store
G.
The
best
time
to
teach
a
child
anything
about
money
is
when
he
shows.
例3:Nonetheless,
doctors
and
nurses
are
finding
that
paying
attention
to
what
might
be
seen
as
superficial
concerns

hair
and
makeup

has
a
positive
effect
on
patients,
with
beauty
regimes
being
bright
spots
in
what
can
be
a
dreary
journey
through
radiation
and
other
therapies.
___2___
Feeling
good
about
oneself
played
a
very
big
role
in
a
patient’s
recovery.
Hospitals
are
forming
partnerships
with
local
salons
to
serve
their
patients.
Three
more
centers
are
scheduled
to
open
in
the
United
States
by
the
end
of
this
year.
Because
of
these
perceived
benefits,
programs
focused
on
cosmetic
solutions
are
spreading.
The
nationwide
program
has
volunteer
hairstylists,
cosmetologists,
wigmakers,
etc.,
who
make
periodic
appearances.
In
this

cosmetologists
specialize
in
assisting
cancer
patients
who
lose
their

to
their
skin
or
have
breasts

removed.
利用逻辑词解题

C.
How
can
we

F.
If

you
are
preventing
yourself
from
getting
the

例2:A

cannot
be
categorized

利用细节句与主题句的区别解题
这一技巧需要与空所在位置结合起来分析。主题句通常在段首,总结句通常在段尾,相当于再次点题。这两个位置多是需要概括性强的语句——主题句。而在段中通常是补充说明内容和议论过程,通常是需要含有内容的语句——细节句。先判断空的位置,然后在选项中筛选细节句与主题句。
例1:Self
Expression
___5___There
are
many
ways
to
express
thoughts
and
ideas—music,
acting,
drawing
building,
photography.
You
may

例2:Self-esteem
is
the
measurement
or
the
value
of
how
a
person
knows
his
worth
and
its
effects
are
life-changing
and
dramatic,
since
it
makes
up
a
person’s
attitude
and
outlook
towards
life.
___67___
But
when
self-esteem
is
low,
you
can
either
sulk
and
be
sad
or
be
afraid
to
try
out
new
things
or
take
risks
and
chances
with
your
love-life,
career,
relationships
and
self-improvement.
A.
Simply
put,
self-esteem
is
the
fuel
that
makes
you
feel
important
or
loved
by
others.
E.
When
your
self-esteem
is
high,
you
are
less
likely
to
be
affected
by
these
situations.
例3:Until
now,
predicting
exactly
what
makes
a
bestseller
was
somewhat
of
a
mystery,
yet
researchers
from
New
York
claim
to
have
created
an
algorithm
(算法)
to
do
just
that.
By
analyzing
the
words
used
in
classic
books,
the
algorithm
was
able
to
correctly
predict
which
books
were
bestsellers,
and
which
were
less
successful,
in
84
percent
of
cases.
___67___
E.
Overall,

and
plenty
of
quotes.
F.

such
as
“recognized”
and
“remembered”.
利用代词指代关系解题
英语中代词分为:人称代词、物主代词、反身代词、指示代词、关系代词、疑问代词、连接代词和不定代词等等。当一个句子中出现这样的代词就意味着在其上下问中需要把这层指代关系交代清楚,因此我们可以通过语境中内容(或代词)和选项中代词(或内容)的呼应关系来解题。
例1:It
doesn’t
matter
which
productivity
bird
represents
your
work
style.
(70)_______
It
depends
on
your
environment
and
energy
levels.
Do
you
have
the
drive
to
get

While
others
are
dreaming,
make
your
dreams
real.
B.
Many
believe
being
night
owls
is
better.
E.
They
both
can
work.
例2:You

day
as
everyone
else.
If
you
want
to
reach
your
goals
and
dreams
you
have
to
be
willing
to
pay
the
price.
(67)______Sometimes
it
is
your
time.
Sometimes
it
is
money.
And
sometimes
it
is
sleep.
One
of
the
best
times
to
get
ahead
and
be”in
the
zone”is
when
everyone
else
is
sleeping.
Get
up
early.
Or
stay
up
late.
Those
are
your
choices.
C.
Not
watching
mindless
TV
or
endlessly
surfing
the
Net.
D.
That
sacrifice
often
involves
giving
up
something.
例3:For
a
while,
the
gig
trend
was
seen
as
a
temporary
response
to
the
Great
Recession.
Victims
of
downsizing
took
on
as-needed
jobs
or
tried
to
make
a
go
of
entrepreneurship
because
that's
all
that
was
available.(69)___________________.However,
this
did
not
happen
on
the
scale
they
hoped.
This
shift
means
that
driving
for
ride-sharing
services
like
Uber
or
Lyft
has
become
one
of
the
most
common
new
jobs

that
many
gig
economy
workers
are
happy
with
their
new
roles
with
the
hourly
pay
may
be
better
than
what
they
earned
as
permanent
employees.
They
may
enjoy
work-hour
flexibility
that’s
perfect
for
their
family
or
education
needs.
And
they
may
even
find
they
good
at
being
their
own
boss.
D.They
hoped
that
“permanent”
hiring
would
return
as
the
overall
economy
recovered.
B.
These
temporary
workers
cannot
be
categorized
into
gig
workers.
利用句子中心实词解题
句子中心实词是指在一个句子表达中需要占据句子主干或者中心意思的一类实词。和代词一样,当一个句子中出现了表达某一特点概念的中心实词时,该句上下文就应该围绕这样的中心来展开,也就是说正确选项中不能呈现上下文没有交代的一个中心实词,因此我们可以利用这一现象来帮助我们找到正常选项或者排除错误选项。
例1:(68)_______
Ask
yourself
what
problem
the
audience
wants
to
solve,
and
talk
about
that
problem
first.
“Then
and
only
then,
talk
about
what
you
are
good
at
as
the
solution
to
that
problem,”
says
Morgan.
“Audiences
start
off
by
asking
why.
Why
am
I
here?
Why
should
I
care?
If
you
answer
those
questions
early,
then
they’ll
ask
how.
Your
job
is
to
answer
the
why
question
first
and
then
address
the
how.”
A.
Be
relevant
to
your
audience
C.
Focus
on
one
theme,
and
eliminate
everything
else.
例2:It
is
possible
they
are,
but
they
are
not
the
most
civilized.
Animals
fight,
so
do
savages;
so
to
be
good
at
fighting
is
to
be
good
in
the
way
an
animal
or
a
savage
is
good,
but
it
is
not
to
be
civilized.
____68_______.
People
fight
to
settle
quarrels.
Fighting
means
killing,
and
civilized
peoples
ought
to
be
able
to
find
some
ways
of
settling
their
disputes
other
than
by
seeing
which
side
can
kill
off
greater
number
of
the
other
side,
and
then
saying
that
the
side
which
has
killed
most
has
won.
A.
Even
being
good
at
getting
others
to
fight
most
efficiently
is
not
being
civilized.
C.
However,
every
year
conflicts
between
countries

nations
still
claim
thousands
of

例3:For
those
with
green
forgers,
the
pleasure
of
gardening
comes
from
getting
out
in
the
fresh
air,
in
all
weathers
and
communing
with
nature--even
if
there
are
a
few

It
can
also
be
seen
as

__68___
F.
Some

【答案】F
【分析】首先可以利用词汇同现的方法解答此题,试题前句的diagnostic(诊断上的),选项中的medicalize(医学化)以及空格后面的physical(身体上的)虽然不是近义词或同义词,但很明显它们属于同一医学范畴,因此属于同一范畴词汇对应;其次,还可以利用结构衔接法,选项中的defining
as(注意选项中有倒装结构,原结构应该是define
…as…)与空格后的reclassifying…as…是近义词表达法,都是表示"归类为,定义为";再次,可以利用词汇复现法,选项中的weakness
of
will(意志上的弱点)和空格后句中的character
flaws(性格的缺陷)是上下义词的关系,前者属于后者。

effect.
The
key
is
to
remember
that
your
morning
workout
doesn't
have
to
be
draining
or
exhausting.
【答案】F
【分析】选项F是最后一段的总起句。最后一段说明有氧训练并不需要太激烈,本段第二句中的You
don’t
have
to
wear
yourself
out与选项中的your
morning
workout
doesn’t
have
to
be
draining
or
exhausting对应。

__________
If

Nearly
all
of
the

that
we

were
preserved
in
rocks
formed
by
water

and
most
of
these
are
of

Thus
it
follows
that
there
must
be
many
kinds

A.
The

B.
Nevertheless,
we

about
many
of
them
because
their

C.The

F.
When

Trust
is
a
learned
behavior
that
we
gain
from
past
experiences,
It
is
putting
confidence
in
someone.
That
is
a
risk.
But
you
can’t
be
successful
when
there’s
a
lack
of
trust
in
a
relationship
that
results
from
an
action
where
the
wrongdoer
takes
no
responsibility
to
fix
the
mistake.
Unfortunately,
we’ve
all
been
victims
of
betrayal.
Whether
we’ve
been
suffer
from,
lied
to
,
misled,
or
cheated
on,
there
are
different
levels
of
losing
trust.
Sometimes
people
simply
can’t
trust
anymore,
__________
It’s
understandable,
but
if
you’re
willing
to
build
trust
in
a
relationship
again,
we
have
some
steps
you
can
take
to
get
you
there.
Learn
to
really
trust
yourself.
having
confidence
in
yourself
will
help
you
make
better
choices
because
you
can
see
what
the
best
outcome
would
be
for
your
well-being.
Stop
regarding
yourself
as
the
victim.
If
you’ve
been
betrayed,
you
are
the
victim
of
your
circumstance.
But
there’s
a
difference
between
being
a
victim
and
living
with
a
“victim
mentality”.
At
some
point
in
all
of
our
lives,
we’ll
have
our
trust
tested
or
violated.
You
didn’t
lose
“everything”.
Once
trust
is
lost,
what
is
left?
Instead
of
looking
at
the
situation
from
this
hopeless
angle,
look
at
everything
you
still
have
and
be
thankful
for
all
of
the
good
in
your
life.
Seeing
the
positive
side
of
things
doesn’t
mean
you’re
ignoring
what
happened.
Instead,
it’s
a
healthy
way
to
work
through
the
experience
to
allow
room
for
positive
growth
and
forgiveness.
D.
Remember
that
you
can
expect
the
best
in
return.
E.
They’ve
been

hurt
and
they
can’t
bear
to

it
happen
again.
F.
This
knowledge
carries

in
their
attitude
toward
their
future
relationships.
【答案】E
【分析】本题空格位置在段中,是衔接句;Sometimes

Sugar
is
blamed
for
fuelling
the
nation’s
obesity
crisis.
Yet
many
of
us
don’t
realize
just
how
quickly
our
intake
goes
up
and
the
crucial
link
it
has
to
health.
____1______
It
doesn’t
directly
cause
heart
disease
or
diabetes
so
there’s
nothing
wrong
with
the
occasional
sweet
treat.
The
problems
arise
because
most
of
us
are
eating
far
too
much.
There
are
different
types
of
sugar
and
it’s
found
in
all
sorts
of
everyday
foods.
It
occurs
naturally
in
fruit
and
is
added
by
manufacturers
to
make
snacks
such
as
cakes
and
biscuits.
All
types
of
sugar,
whether
found
in
cakes
or
fruit,
will
push
up
your
intake
of
calories.
If
you
don’t
burn
them
off
through
exercise
you
are
likely
to
get
fat.
That’s
where
the
real
health
problems
begin,
including
increased
risk
of
heart
disease,
diabetes
and
some
cancers.
_____2_____
This
sugar
can
play
a
role
in
making
us
overweight,
but
fruit
is
also
bursting
with
other
sources
of
goodness.
The
added
sugar
found
in
snacks
and
sweets
(also
known
as
sucrose)
doesn’t
contain
many
nutrients
so
we
are
encouraged
to
get
our
sugar
allowance
from
fruit
instead.
Tom
Sanders,
professor
of
dietetics
and
nutrition
at
King’s
College
London,
says:
“we
advise
people
to
eat
up
to
three
portions
of
fruit
a
day
but
only
have
sweet
snacks
occasionally,
because
sweet
snacks
also
tend
to
be
high
in
fat.”
_____3_____
And
Professor
Sanders
adds:
“Sugar
is
empty
calories.
Generally
it
is
better
to
get
most
of
your
carbohydrate
intake
from
starchy
foods
such
as
bread,
rice,
potatoes
and
pasta
because
they
also
contain
useful
amounts
of
other
nutrients
such
as
proteins
and
vitamins.”
It
is
recommended
that
no
more
than
11
per
cent
of
our
total
daily
calories
intake
should
come
from
sugars.
Professor
Sander
says:
“This
translates
into
60g
of
sugar.”
“There’s
no
evidence
that
sugar
is
addictive”,
adds
the
professor,
“but
it
is
habit
forming.”
“____4______

he
explains.
“Sweet
tastes
give
us
pleasure,
unlike
bitter
and
acidic
flavors.”
Sugar
is
a
type
of
carbohydrate.
With
sugar
found
naturally
in
fruit,
there’s
a
balance.
We
have
special
taste
receptors
for
sugars
on
our
tongue.
With
the
help
of
experts
we
discover
the
unlikely
sources
of
sugar.
An
increase
in
sugar
without
the
relevant
exercise
will
encourage
weight
gain.
There’s
nothing
unhealthy
about
sugar
so
we
shouldn’t
try
to
eliminate
it
from
our
diets
completely.

America

more

A.There
is
a
difference
between
the
food
that
people
eat
in
the
countryside
and
the
food
people
eat
in
big
cities.
B.Consequently,
many
Italians
worry
that
they
are
losing
their
sense
of
nationality,
as
foreign
food
becomes
more
common.
C.In
addition,
people’s
opportunity
to
experiment
with
foreign
food
was
very
limited,
since
only
pizza
and
pasta
were
available
in
the
local
town

D.Possibly
the
global
popularity
of
Italian
eating
habits
is
the
increasing
popularity
of
foreign
cuisine,
especially
Indian,
Chinese
and
Japanese
foods.
E.
Globalization
has
had
a
significant
influence
on
the
way
that
Italians
eat.
F.
In
summary,
globalization
has
had
a
significant
influence
on
the
way
that
Italians
eat.
Globalization
has
significantly
influenced
food
consumption
in
most
parts
of
world,
but
one
country
whose
food
has
a
long
history
of
being
globalized
is
Italy.
If
you
walk
down
any
main
street
in
any
major
world
city,
you
will
find
at
least
one
Italian
restaurant.
Furthermore,
Italy
has
seen
changes
in
its
own
eating
habits
due
to
influence
from
other
countries.
Food
has
always
been
very
important
for
Italian
families.
Italians
take
a
lot
of
pride
in
the
making
and
preparation
of
food.
Until
recently,
pasts---a
basic
Italian
food---
would
have
been
made
by
people
in
their
local
area.
Families
would
also
have
made
the
sauces
to
eat
with
the
pasta
at
home._______67_______.
Nowadays,
however,
Italian
eating
habits
appear
to
have
changed.
People
no
longer
spend
so
much
time
preparing
their
meals.
Indeed,
frozen
or
takeaway
Italian
meals
have
become
very
popular
in
Italy.
Furthermore,
dried
pasta
is
now
mass-produced
and
sold
relatively
cheaply
in
the
last
five
years,
according
to
one
manufacturer.
_______68_____.
This
trend
is
more
common
in
urban
areas
such
as
Rome,
Milan
and
Venice,
although
many
smaller
towns
are
also
experiencing
similar
changes.
These
changes
have
both
advantages
and
disadvantages.
On
the
plus
side,
globalization
has
increased
the
range
of
food
available
in
Italy.
Italians
now
have
much
more
choice
in
terms
of
what
they
eat.
They
also
do
not
need
to
spend
so
long
preparing
and
making
food,
unless
of
course
they
want
to.
In
contrast,
it
can
be
argued
that
large
restaurant
chains
are
becoming
increasingly
powerful,
resulting
in
the
destruction
of
local
and
national
specialties.
_______69______.
_____70_____.
Convenience
foods
have
replaced
many
of
the
traditional
home-cooked
meals,
and
the
availability
of
foreign
fruits
has
greatly
increased.
While
this
extra
choice
is
welcomed
by
some,
others
fear
that
the
damage
it
may
cause
to
Italian
traditions.

六选四做题技巧指导
利用词汇复现或同义词解题
重复词汇是指关键词以同一形式或不同的词性在文章中反复出现,达到紧扣主题的目的。找到含有与关键词相同或最接近的单词的选项,然后再来验证句意内容是否通顺。从而达到快而准的效果。一般来说,上下文中词汇的范畴越小,上下文的衔接关系越紧密。

____67____
Even
being

others

fight
most
efficiently
is
not
being
civilized.
Most

However,
every

lives.
And
not

has
it
won,
but
also
because
it
has
won,
it
has

So
there
has

there
will

oceans

in
which
to

利用细节句与主题句的区别解题
这一技巧需要与空所在位置结合起来分析。主题句通常在段首,总结句通常在段尾,相当于再次点题。这两个位置多是需要概括性强的语句——主题句。而在段中通常是补充说明内容和议论过程,通常是需要含有内容的语句——细节句。先判断空的位置,然后在选项中筛选细节句与主题句。
例1:Self

and
ideas—music,

drawing
building,
photography.
You
may

in
new
ways.
G.
Being
able
to
communicate
ideas
in
a

way
is
a

skill.
例2:Self-esteem
is
the
measurement
or
the
value
of
how
a
person
knows
his
worth
and
its
effects
are
life-changing
and
dramatic,
since
it
makes
up
a
person’s
attitude
and
outlook
towards
life.
___67___
But
when
self-esteem
is
low,
you
can
either
sulk

be
sad
or
be
afraid
to
try
out
new
things
or
take
risks
and
chances
with
your
love-life,
career,
relationships
and
self-improvement.
A.
Simply
put,
self-esteem
is
the
fuel
that
makes
you
feel
important
or
loved
by
others.
E.
When
your
self-esteem
is
high,
you
are
less
likely
to
be
affected
by
these
situations.
例3:Until
now,
predicting
exactly
what
makes
a
bestseller
was
somewhat
of
a
mystery,
yet
researchers
from
New
York
claim
to
have
created
an
algorithm
(算法)
to
do
just
that.
By
analyzing
the
words
used
in
classic
books,
the
algorithm
was
able
to
correctly
predict
which
books
were
bestsellers,
and
which
were
less
successful,
in
84
percent
of
cases.
___67___
E.
Overall,
they
found
that
successful
books
contained
a
high
number
of
nouns
and
adjectives
and
plenty
of
quotes.
F.
The
most
popular
books
also
featured
more
verbs
relating
to
“thought-processing”
such
as
“recognized”
and
“remembered”.
利用代词指代关系解题
英语中代词分为:人称代词、物主代词、反身代词、指示代词、关系代词、疑问代词、连接代词和不定代词等等。当一个句子中出现这样的代词就意味着在其上下问中需要把这层指代关系交代清楚,因此我们可以通过语境中内容(或代词)和选项中代词(或内容)的呼应关系来解题。
例1:It
doesn’t
matter
which
productivity
bird
represents
your
work
style.
(70)_______
It

on
your
environment
and
energy
levels.
Do
you

make
your
dreams
real.
B.
Many

is
better.
E.
They
both
can
work.
例2:You
have
the
same
amount
of
time
each
day
as
everyone
else.
If
you
want
to
reach
your
goals
and
dreams
you
have
to
be
willing
to
pay
the
price.
(67)______Sometimes
it
is
your
time.
Sometimes
it
is
money.
And
sometimes
it
is
sleep.
One
of
the
best
times
to
get
ahead
and
be”in
the
zone”is
when
everyone
else
is
sleeping.
Get
up
early.
Or
stay
up
late.
Those
are
your
choices.
C.
Not
watching
mindless
TV
or
endlessly
surfing
the
Net.
D.
That
sacrifice
often
involves
giving
up
something.
例3:For
a
while,
the
gig
trend
was
seen
as
a
temporary
response
to
the
Great
Recession.
Victims
of
downsizing
took

that's
all
that

this
did
not

This
shift
means
that
driving
for
ride-sharing
services
like
Uber
or
Lyft
has
become
one
of
the
most
common
new
jobs
in
the
US.
Surveys
find
that
many
gig
economy
workers
are
happy
with
their
new
roles
with
the
hourly
pay
may
be
better
than
what
they
earned
as
permanent
employees.
They
may
enjoy
work-hour
flexibility
that’s
perfect
for
their
family
or
education
needs.
And
they
may
even
find
they
good
at
being
their

that
“permanent”

B.
These
temporary

利用句子中心实词解题
句子中心实词是指在一个句子表达中需要占据句子主干或者中心意思的一类实词。和代词一样,当一个句子中出现了表达某一特点概念的中心实词时,该句上下文就应该围绕这样的中心来展开,也就是说正确选项中不能呈现上下文没有交代的一个中心实词,因此我们可以利用这一现象来帮助我们找到正常选项或者排除错误选项。
例1:(68)_______
Ask
yourself
what
problem
the

and
talk
about
that

Why
should
I

If
you

those
questions
early,
then
they’ll

how.
Your

is
to
answer
the

and
then
address
the
how.”
A.
Be
relevant
to
your
audience
C.
Focus

eliminate
everything
else.
例2:It

____68_______.
People

civilized
peoples
ought
to

If

its

More

Nearly
all

in
rocks

and
most
of
these

Thus
it

that
there
must

many
kinds

A.
The

B.
Nevertheless,
we
know
a
great
deal
about
many
of
them
because
their
bones
and
shells
have
been
preserved
in
the

C.The

F.
When

Trust
is
a
learned
behavior
that
we
gain
from
past
experiences,
It
is
putting
confidence
in
someone.
That
is
a
risk.
But
you
can’t
be
successful
when
there’s
a
lack
of
trust
in
a
relationship
that
results
from
an
action
where
the
wrongdoer
takes
no
responsibility
to
fix
the
mistake.
Unfortunately,
we’ve
all
been
victims
of
betrayal.
Whether
we’ve
been
suffer
from,
lied
to
,
misled,
or
cheated
on,
there
are
different
levels
of
losing
trust.
Sometimes
people
simply
can’t
trust
anymore,
__________
It’s
understandable,
but
if
you’re
willing
to
build
trust
in
a
relationship
again,
we
have
some
steps
you
can
take
to
get
you
there.
Learn
to
really
trust
yourself.
having
confidence
in
yourself
will
help
you
make
better
choices
because
you
can
see
what
the
best
outcome
would
be
for
your
well-being.
Stop
regarding
yourself
as
the
victim.
If
you’ve
been
betrayed,
you
are
the
victim
of
your
circumstance.
But
there’s
a
difference
between
being
a
victim
and
living
with
a
“victim
mentality”.
At
some
point
in
all
of
our
lives,
we’ll
have
our
trust
tested
or
violated.
You
didn’t
lose
“everything”.
Once
trust
is
lost,
what
is
left?
Instead
of
looking
at
the
situation
from
this
hopeless
angle,
look
at
everything
you
still
have
and
be
thankful
for
all
of
the
good
in
your
life.
Seeing
the
positive
side
of
things
doesn’t
mean
you’re
ignoring
what
happened.
Instead,
it’s
a
healthy
way
to
work
through
the
experience
to
allow
room
for
positive
growth
and
forgiveness.
D.
Remember
that
you
can
expect
the
best
in
return.
E.
They’ve
been
too
badly
hurt
and
they
can’t
bear
to
let
it
happen
again.
F.
This
knowledge
carries

in
their
attitude
toward
their
future
relationships.

Bill
Gates

When
it

the
billionaire
Microsoft
giant

admits
his
wife
Melinda

"My

Gates

Gates
joked.
___47___
They
followed
a
1970s
"Love
and
Logic"
parenting
model.
The
core
idea
of
the
philosophy
is
centered
on
the
idea
of
exerting
emotional
control,
essentially
minimizing
emotional
reactions
like
shouting
or
scolding
kids.___48___
Gates
admits
he
and
his
wife
haven't
been
perfect
at
carrying
out
the
approach.
"Can
you
get
rid
of
the
emotion?
You
can't
totally
do
it,"
he
said.
Aside
from
ruling
in
hot﹣blooded
parent
tempers,
the
love
and
logic
model
also
stresses
the
importance
of
not
leaning
into
rewards
for
kids,
but
instead
demonstrating
unconditional
love
and
admiring
kids
for
who
they
are,
not
what
they
do
(or
don't)
achieve,
like
a
poor
test
score.
"Many
highly
successful
people
struggled

as
children,"
Fay
wrote
on
his
site.
"___49___"
The
model
is
a
bit
like
the
ideal
method,
in
that
it
pushes
parents
to
focus
on
asking
questions
of
their
kids
and
getting
them
to
think
about
how
to
solve
their
own
problems,
instead
of
feeding
them
answers.
___50___.
However,
he
knew
he
wanted
to
do
things
differently
with
his
own
kids.It
wasn't
the
only
way
he
set
boundaries
for
his
children
while
they
were
growing
up.
None
of
his
kids
owned
a
cell
phone
until
they
were
14
years
old.
And
they
will
each
get
about
﹩10
million
of
their
parents
fortune
as
inheritance,a
mere
fraction
of
the
giant's
roughly
﹩90
billion
net
worth.
"We
want
to
strike
a
balance
where
they
have
the
freedom
to
do
anything,
but
not
a
lot
of
money
showered
on
them
so
they
could
go
out
and
do
nothing,"
Gates
once
told
TED.
A
Sugar
is
blamed
for
fuelling
the
nation’s
obesity
crisis.
Yet
many
of
us
don’t
realize
just
how
quickly
our
intake
goes
up
and
the
crucial
link
it
has
to
health.
____1______
It
doesn’t
directly
cause
heart
disease
or
diabetes
so
there’s
nothing
wrong
with
the
occasional
sweet
treat.
The
problems
arise
because
most
of
us
are
eating
far
too
much.
There
are
different
types
of
sugar
and
it’s
found
in
all
sorts
of
everyday
foods.
It
occurs
naturally
in
fruit
and
is
added
by
manufacturers
to
make
snacks
such
as
cakes
and
biscuits.
All
types
of
sugar,
whether
found
in
cakes
or
fruit,
will
push
up
your
intake
of
calories.
If
you
don’t
burn
them
off
through
exercise
you
are
likely
to
get
fat.
That’s
where
the
real
health
problems
begin,
including
increased
risk
of
heart
disease,
diabetes
and
some
cancers.
_____2_____
This
sugar
can
play
a
role
in
making
us
overweight,
but
fruit
is
also
bursting
with
other
sources
of
goodness.
The
added
sugar
found
in
snacks
and
sweets
(also
known
as
sucrose)
doesn’t
contain
many
nutrients
so
we
are
encouraged
to
get
our
sugar
allowance
from
fruit
instead.
Tom
Sanders,
professor
of
dietetics
and
nutrition
at
King’s
College
London,
says:
“we
advise
people
to
eat
up
to
three
portions
of
fruit
a
day
but
only
have
sweet
snacks
occasionally,
because
sweet
snacks
also
tend
to
be
high
in
fat.”
_____3_____
And
Professor
Sanders
adds:
“Sugar
is
empty
calories.
Generally
it
is
better
to
get
most
of
your
carbohydrate
intake
from
starchy
foods
such
as
bread,
rice,
potatoes
and
pasta
because
they
also
contain
useful
amounts
of
other
nutrients
such
as
proteins
and
vitamins.”
It
is
recommended
that
no
more
than
11
per
cent
of
our
total
daily
calories
intake
should
come
from
sugars.
Professor
Sander
says:
“This
translates
into
60g
of
sugar.”
“There’s
no
evidence
that
sugar
is
addictive”,
adds
the
professor,
“but
it
is
habit
forming.”
“____4______

he
explains.
“Sweet
tastes
give
us
pleasure,
unlike
bitter
and
acidic
flavors.”
Sugar
is
a
type
of
carbohydrate.
With
sugar
found
naturally
in
fruit,
there’s
a
balance.
We
have
special
taste
receptors
for
sugars
on
our
tongue.
With
the
help
of
experts
we
discover
the
unlikely
sources
of
sugar.
An
increase
in
sugar
without
the
relevant
exercise
will
encourage
weight
gain.
There’s
nothing
unhealthy
about
sugar
so
we
shouldn’t
try
to
eliminate
it
from
our
diets
completely.

The

either
arguing
for
the

A.There
is
a
difference
between
the
food
that
people
eat
in
the
countryside
and
the
food
people
eat
in
big
cities.
B.Consequently,
many
Italians
worry
that
they
are
losing
their
sense
of
nationality,
as
foreign
food
becomes
more
common.
C.In
addition,
people’s
opportunity
to
experiment
with
foreign
food
was
very
limited,
since
only
pizza
and
pasta
were
available
in
the
local

D.Possibly
the
global
popularity
of
Italian
eating
habits
is
the
increasing
popularity
of
foreign
cuisine,
especially
Indian,
Chinese
and
Japanese
foods.
E.
Globalization
has
had
a
significant
influence
on
the
way
that
Italians
eat.
F.
In
summary,
globalization
has
had
a
significant
influence
on
the
way
that
Italians
eat.
Globalization
has
significantly
influenced
food
consumption
in
most
parts
of
world,
but
one
country
whose
food
has
a
long
history
of
being
globalized
is
Italy.
If
you
walk
down
any
main
street
in
any
major
world
city,
you
will
find
at
least
one
Italian
restaurant.
Furthermore,
Italy
has
seen
changes
in
its
own
eating
habits
due
to
influence
from
other
countries.
Food
has
always
been
very
important
for
Italian
families.
Italians
take
a
lot
of
pride
in
the
making
and
preparation
of
food.
Until
recently,
pasts---a
basic
Italian
food---
would
have
been
made
by
people
in
their
local
area.
Families
would
also
have
made
the
sauces
to
eat
with
the
pasta
at
home._______67_______.
Nowadays,
however,
Italian
eating
habits
appear
to
have
changed.
People
no
longer
spend
so
much
time
preparing
their
meals.
Indeed,
frozen
or
takeaway
Italian
meals
have
become
very
popular
in
Italy.
Furthermore,
dried
pasta
is
now
mass-produced
and
sold
relatively
cheaply
in
the
last
five
years,
according
to
one
manufacturer.
_______68_____.
This
trend
is
more
common
in
urban
areas
such
as
Rome,
Milan
and
Venice,
although
many
smaller
towns
are
also
experiencing
similar
changes.
These
changes
have
both
advantages
and
disadvantages.
On
the
plus
side,
globalization
has
increased
the
range
of
food
available
in
Italy.
Italians
now
have
much
more
choice
in
terms
of
what
they
eat.
They
also
do
not
need
to
spend
so
long
preparing
and
making
food,
unless
of
course
they
want
to.
In
contrast,
it
can
be
argued
that
large
restaurant
chains
are
becoming
increasingly
powerful,
resulting
in
the
destruction
of
local
and
national
specialties.
_______69______.
_____70_____.
Convenience
foods
have
replaced
many
of
the
traditional
home-cooked
meals,
and
the
availability
of
foreign
fruits
has
greatly
increased.
While
this
extra
choice
is
welcomed
by
some,
others
fear
that
the
damage
it
may
cause
to
Italian
traditions.

A.
It

B.
George
Eastman
was
not

interested
in
commercial

but
also
in

C.
In
an
era
of
easy
digital

when
we

a

of
anything
at
any

we
cannot

was

D.
For

its

E.
Before

photography
to
people,
painting

people
to

F.
It
is
impossible
to
understand
the
20th
Century
without
recognizing
the
role
of
the
Eastman
Kodak
Company.
“My
work

Those
words
were

penned
by
George
Eastman.
He

them
in
his

note.
They
mark
an
ignoble

a

the
leave

of
a
truly
great
man.
The
same
words
could
now
be
said
for
the
company
he
left
behind.
Actually,
the
Eastman
Kodak
Company
is
through.
It
has
been
mismanaged
financially,
technologically
and
competitively.
______67______.
One
of
America’s
bedrock
brands
is
about
to
disappear,
the
Kodak
moment
has
passed.
But
George
Eastman
is
not
how
he
died,
and
the
Eastman
Kodak
Company
is
not
how
it
is
being
killed.
Though
the
ends
be
needless
and
premature,
they
must
not
be
allowed
to
overshadow
the
greatness
that
came
before.
Few
companies
have
done
so
much
good
for
so
many
people,
or
defined
and
lifted
so
profoundly
the
spirit
of
a
nation
and
perhaps
the
world.
______68______.
Kodak
served
mankind
through
entertainment,
science,
national
defense
and
the
stockpiling
of
family
memories.
Kodak
took
us
to
the
top
of
Mount
Suribachi
and
to
the
Sea
of
Tranquility.
It
introduced
us
to
the
merry
old
Land
of
Oz
and
to
stars
from
Charlie
Chaplin
to
John
Wayne,
and
Elizabeth
Taylor
to
Tom
Hanks.
_____69_____.
When
that
sailor
kissed
the
nurse,
and
when
the
spy
planes
saw
missiles
in
Cuba,
Kodak
was
the
eyes
of
a
nation.
From
the
deck
of
the
Missouri
to
the
grandeur
of
Monument
Valley,
Kodak
took
us
there.
Virtually
every
significant
image
of
the
20th
Century
is
a
gift
to
generation
from
the
Eastman
Kodak
Company.
_____70_____.
Yes,
there
were
photographers,
and
for
relatively
large
sums
of
money
they
would
take
unnatural
pictures
in
studios
and
formal
settings.
But
most
people
couldn’t
afford
photographs,
and
so
all
they
had
to
remember
distant
loved
ones,
or
earlier
times
of
their
lives,
was
memory.
Children
could
not
know
what
their
parents
had
looked
like
as
young
people,
grandparents
far
away
might
never
learn
what
their
grandchildren
looked
like.
Eastman
Kodak
allowed
memory
to
move
from
the
uncertainty
of
recollection,
to
the
permanence
of
a
photograph.
But
it
wasn’t
just
people
whose
features
were
savable;
it
was
events,
the
precious
times
that
families
cherish.
The
Kodak
moment,
was
humanity’s
moment.
