Do you always focus on studying and getting "A" grades in school? But in the United States, you might be considered a bookworm if you cannot socialize. Socializing is as important as your grades. If you just study all the time and don't socialize, your life won't be complete. So, how does one socialize with students in the US?
Lots of high schools often have soccer games during the autumn term. I didn't know anything about soccer, but I joined some of the soccer games in order to have fun with my friends. I thought I could learn the rules from others. However, to my surprise, some American students don't even know the rules but still go to the games in order to socialize. They cheer for the soccer players and have fun together.
The other common way to socialize is to join after-- school clubs. You can choose clubs that you are interested in and make a lot of new friends. For example, one of my friends started a sketch club. I was interested, so I joined the club. There I met lots of students who were also interested in sketching. We soon became friends with each other.
Socializing is an important thing in the US. But grades are still important, too. A complete student should have the ability to balance his or her studying and socializing.

Amanda
Dear Amanda,
It does sound like your parents are being quite unfair. It is not right for them to think that they can control everything in your life, even down to the clothes you wear.
Now, to be clear, you should follow your parents' instructions most of the time. They're usually right when they remind you to focus on your study or do your chores. But in your case, it sounds like they're being a bit too strict.
However, there's a way to solve this problem, and it can satisfy(满足) both sides. Have a conversation with your parents and remind them that one day you will have to go into the world on your own as an adult. You will need to be able to make your own choices and balance your time wisely. If you're not allowed to improve your abilities as a teen, how will you be able to use them as an adult?

As a proverb(谚语) says, " Your tongue has the power of life and death." This means that your words have power to finally cause things to happen, even life or death.
We may all experience the power of words in our life, even when we were very young. A child is blamed(责备) by teachers or parents, and after that, he might probably think of himself as a bad child. Most kids have that experience. They say it is important to praise children four times for each negative(负面的) word. Blaming will make things worse, while positive words are helpful especially when being in trouble or in need. When we fail the exam, encouraging words from our teachers or parents make us work harder at our lessons.
Encouraging words can go quite a long way. They lift people up. For example, encouraging words to someone who is sad can help him make it through the day. Words can have a powerful effect on your brain. And it will in turn(相应地) have a great influence on your action.
Everything you do depends on what you choose to do. It's not your parents, your past relationships or your job, but you and only you that are responsible for every goal you set. If you have dreams in life, write them down and speak them out. Your words are likely to bring out something amazing.

I want to say thank you
I want to say thank you to my dear mother. She not only cares about my life, but always helps me out.
Once I argued with my best friend Lucy, because she always pointed out my shortcomings face to face. My mother talked with me and advised me to think about her words carefully. I did so and found what Lucy said was helpful to me. I apologized to her and promised to correct my mistakes immediately. With my mother's help, I didn't lose my best friend and learned how to deal with problems with friends.
She does all that she can do for me. No matter what will happen in the future, I will love her forever.
