As the temperature of the world's oceans has risen in recent years, coral reefs (珊瑚礁) around the world have begun to die off. As coral refs die, the sea animals that live in and around them move away. This effects(影响)the richness of sea animals and damages(损害) the health of oceans.
Luckily, scientists have found a new way to protect the coral reefs with underwater loudspeakers (水下扬声器). Many people think the underwater world is quiet, but that’s not really true. There are many different kinds of animals, and they make different sounds as they swim around in the ocean.
Scientists from the UK and Australia wanted to see if they could attract fish to damaged coral reefs by playing recorded sounds of a healthy coral ref. They decided to test their idea at the Great Barrier Reef. That's the world's largest coral reef and home to many sea animals. Bu it's really under threat(威胁)from rising ocean temperatures. During a 6-week scientific test on dead coral reefs in 33 different places around the Great Barrier Reef, the scientists found that the noisy places with underwater loudspeakers had twice as many fish as the quiet places. Those places also had 50% more different kinds of fish.
The scientists believe that their experiment (实验)shows one possible way to get sea life to come back to the damaged areas. They say this way won't get the coral reefs totally healthy again. But attracting more fish may make it easier for damaged reefs to regrow.
