教材分析:
本课时设计的是外研版新标准高中英语必修四 Module 1 Life in the Future中的Reading and Vocabulary内容。本模块的主题为“未来的城市生活”, Reading and Vocabulary通过介绍人们对未来城市生活的预测以及美国大学生对于未来城市构想,旨在启发学生的思维,以想象且结合实际描绘未来城市的发展前景,并让学生学习如何用英语描述未来城市生活。本课时设计为本模块的第二课时,在Introduction教学后进行,在模块中处于重要的地位。
学生分析:
这是本模块的第二个课时,学生对现今居住城市生活有一定的了解,但对本课时涉及到的未来城市陌生,相关信息储备相对较少,对谈论相关话题的语言知识储备不充分。同时课文中出现的描述未来城市的词汇超前,学生理解上有一定难度,对于如何介绍未来城市以及构想未来城市生活的目的和意义理解和掌握不全面。
教学目标:

在阅读中识别新学词汇、短语并推断出其意义。
培养学生通过快速阅读掌握文章大意的能力;培养学生在细读中寻找记录细节信息的能力;培养学生小组合作的能力。
了解构建未来城市的目的和意义,了解掌握介绍建筑物的方法,学会描述建筑物常用的词汇、短语、句型等。
能阅读和理解来自其他资源的相关文章。
学习策略目标:
培养学生独立阅读、合作学习和合理利用学习资源等策略。
情感与态度目标:
通过让学生了解美国大学生对于未来城市预测,认识到这些构想在提升城市形象,体现城市宜居性,城市科技发展实力以及促进人类的发展方面所带来的积极影响。帮助学生了解世界发展的趋势,了解可持续发展的必要性,培养乐观的生活态度。鼓励学生参与对家乡成都建造“田园城市”的构想的活动,激发学生努力学习,为祖国和家乡做贡献的热情。
教学重、难点:
了解如何介绍未来城市,以及理解构想未来城市的目的和意义,结合本课所学的知识设计出对未来成都“田园城市”的预测,并通过角色扮演运用课堂所学词汇和基本句型将其介绍给大家。
教学过程
Teaching Procedure Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity Explanation
Pre-reading (5 mins) Help students to think about what urban problems we face nowadays. List urban problems. Arouse students’ thinking about present problems in city life.
Play a video clip and raise a question about urban problems mentioned in the video and introduce some new words to students. Write down urban problems mentioned in the video and get familiar with some relevant new words. Prepare students for reading practice.
Skimming (1 min) Guide students to find out the author’s attitude towards the city of the future. Skim and judge whether the author is optimistic or pessimistic about city in the future. Help students to hold an optimistic attitude to future city life.
Scanning(4 mins) Ask students to scan the passage and get the main idea of each part. Scan the passage and get the main idea of each part. Help them get the structure and main idea of the passage.
Help students find out aspects of city life in the future according to the passage. Tick the topics mentioned in the text. Make sure that students are clear about the aspects of city life in the future according to the text.
Careful-reading (19 mins) Ask students to read the passage carefully and get information of things we know for sure about the city of the future. Read the passage carefully and complete the sentences on the handout. Guide students to get detailed information and the general structure of the text.
Help students get to know measures taken to care about the environment. Find out the information and write it down.
Help them judge the predictions made by the US students are true or false. Decide whether the following expressions are true or false.
Post-reading (10 mins) Ask students to discuss in pairs about predictions of Chengdu in the future. Work in pairs and have a discussion about predictions about Chengdu in the future. Help students to master the expressions to make predictions. Develop students’ summarizing, creative and cooperative abilities. Cultivate students’ sense of responsibility for care for our city.
Invite them to give a role play. Perform a role play.
Assignment(1 min) Finish exercise 3 to 5 on page 3. Finish homework after class. Review the words and expressions they have learnt in this lesson. Train the students’ ability to write based on the words and expressions they have learned. Strengthen students’ understanding of the city in the future.
Assign a composition to them about of their predictions of our city in the future.
