绿靴子”在珠峰已经沉睡20余年，可谓是珠峰上最知名的“路标”，从尼泊尔境内南坡登顶的人，几乎都能看到“绿靴子”躺在那儿。
“绿靴子”遇难者名叫帕尔乔，是1996年遇难的28岁印度人，帕尔乔生前曾为印度边境警察，从小在喜马拉雅山脚下长大，1996年5月，帕尔乔加入8人印度登山队，挑战人类最高峰珠峰，结果不幸遇难。
就这样，帕尔乔永远的留在了珠峰8500米处，他的身上穿着桔色棉衣，脚踩绿靴子，由此得名，“绿靴子”也成为珠峰凶险的最著名见证者。
弗兰西丝还是第一个不带辅助氧气登顶珠峰的女登山者，虽然她创造了历史，但也直接导致了她的死亡。1998年5月，弗兰西丝和丈夫谢尔盖一起攀登珠峰，在登顶返程途中，弗兰西丝由于缺氧逐渐体力不支，她在珠峰8600米处停下休息，丈夫谢尔盖下山求援。
在珠峰，每一秒都可能面临死亡，弗兰西丝在经过一个小时的等待后，最终长眠于此，中途有数名登山者路过，企图营救弗兰西丝，但在珠峰上，想要带一个完全不能行走的成年人下山是不可能的，最终过路登山者只能无奈放弃，任由奄奄一息的弗兰西丝瘫在雪山之上。
戴维·夏普遇难的地方旁边就是“绿靴子”，很多登山者都会选择在此短暂休息后再爬，因此当戴维·夏普抱膝而坐时，其他登山者都以为他只是在休息，因而没人上前查看，直到一名登山者登顶返回时，才返现戴维·夏普已经死亡。虽然充满争议，但其实在珠峰上有个不成文的规定，不要去试图营救奄奄一息的人，因为不但救不了，反而可能搭进去更多人命。
