绿靴子”在珠峰已经沉睡20余年,可谓是珠峰上最知名的“路标”,从尼泊尔境内南坡登顶的人,几乎都能看到“绿靴子”躺在那儿。
“绿靴子”遇难者名叫帕尔乔,是1996年遇难的28岁印度人,帕尔乔生前曾为印度边境警察,从小在喜马拉雅山脚下长大,1996年5月,帕尔乔加入8人印度登山队,挑战人类最高峰珠峰,结果不幸遇难。
就这样,帕尔乔永远的留在了珠峰8500米处,他的身上穿着桔色棉衣,脚踩绿靴子,由此得名,“绿靴子”也成为珠峰凶险的最著名见证者。
弗兰西丝还是第一个不带辅助氧气登顶珠峰的女登山者,虽然她创造了历史,但也直接导致了她的死亡。1998年5月,弗兰西丝和丈夫谢尔盖一起攀登珠峰,在登顶返程途中,弗兰西丝由于缺氧逐渐体力不支,她在珠峰8600米处停下休息,丈夫谢尔盖下山求援。
在珠峰,每一秒都可能面临死亡,弗兰西丝在经过一个小时的等待后,最终长眠于此,中途有数名登山者路过,企图营救弗兰西丝,但在珠峰上,想要带一个完全不能行走的成年人下山是不可能的,最终过路登山者只能无奈放弃,任由奄奄一息的弗兰西丝瘫在雪山之上。
戴维·夏普遇难的地方旁边就是“绿靴子”,很多登山者都会选择在此短暂休息后再爬,因此当戴维·夏普抱膝而坐时,其他登山者都以为他只是在休息,因而没人上前查看,直到一名登山者登顶返回时,才返现戴维·夏普已经死亡。虽然充满争议,但其实在珠峰上有个不成文的规定,不要去试图营救奄奄一息的人,因为不但救不了,反而可能搭进去更多人命。
