必修4 Unit 3重点单词、短语和句型必背
学好英语背单词很重要，但是若只会机械地背英语单词，而不会熟练地使用单词，则想学好英语是很难的。若想熟练地使用英语，则多背每一个单元的重点单词、短语和句型的例句，则是一个行之有效的方法。若能坚持每天多背诵单词、短语以及句型的例句，学以致用，日积月累，则会收到事半功倍的效果。为此，笔者特意整理了本人讲课的每个单元的重要单词、短语和句型的经典例句，希望对广大英语学习者有很大的启发与帮助。
重点单词
content adj. 满足的；满意的 n. 内容；目录；容量；满足；所含之物 vt. 使满足
He made people laugh at a time when they felt depressed, so they could feel more content with their lives. 在人们感到沮丧的时候，他可以使人们开怀大笑，于是人们对自己的生活感到比较满足。
My parents are content to live in the country, where the air is fresh and clean. 我父母住在农村很满足，那里空气新鲜干净。
astonish vt. 使惊诧
You may find it astonishing that Charlie was taught to sing as soon as he could speak... 你可能会感到惊讶，查理刚会说话时大人就教他唱歌……
What made him astonished was that his son had been caught cheating in the exams. 让他感到惊讶的是他儿子被抓到考试舞弊。
failure n. 失败；失败的人或事
Harry’s ambitious plans ended in failure. 哈里雄心勃勃的计划以失败而告终。
The whole thing was a failure from start to end. 整个事情从始至终都很失败。
convince vt. 使确信；使信服
Only by persuading facts and reasoning things out can we convince people. 摆事实，讲道理才能让人服气。
I am firmly convinced of the significance of honesty, which will contribute to building a warm and harmonious society. 我坚信诚信的重要性，它有助于建立一个温暖和谐的社会。
particularly adv. 特殊地；特别地
Children particularly would burst into laughter at his behaviour. 尤其是孩子们看到他的举止就会捧腹大笑。
This kind of food is rich in nutrition, and in particular it contains a lot of minerals. 这种食物营养丰富，尤其是它含有丰富的矿物质。
occasion n. 时刻；场合
I’ve seen Julie with them on several occasions. 我在好几个场合看到朱莉和他们在一起。

whisper n. 耳语；低语 vt. & vi. 低语；小声说

mess n. 杂乱

The earthquake left the town in a mess. 地震使这个小镇乱七八糟。
重点短语
badly off 穷的；缺少的
As far as I know, the school is rather badly off for equipment and books. 据我所知，这所学校相当缺乏设备和书籍。
We shouldn’t complain about being poor because many families are much worse off. 我们不应该抱怨贫穷，因为很多家庭更加贫困。
pick out 挑出；辨认；挑选
Then he picks out the lace of the shoe and eats it as if it were spaghetti. 然后他挑出鞋带来吃，像是吃意大利面条一样。
He picked out the good seeds for the coming year. 他为来年挑选好的种子。
cut off 割掉；切断；使隔绝
Charlie cut off the leather top of the shoe and shares the shoe with the other fellow. 查理把皮鞋上端的皮子切下来，然后把皮鞋分享给他的其他同伴。
When you give a speech, you’d better cut out unimportant details. 当你演讲时，最好删掉那些不重要的细节。
