Beijing is a rather strange city to many western people. One of my foreign friends told me that when he came to Beijing, at first he couldn't understand why most people wear masks when spring comes to Beijing. He thought people wanted to keep their appearance a secret. Well, one of the symbols of spring coming to Beijing is that more and more people start wearing masks. The reason for it is the arrival of so called 搒andstorms.
It is said that each year sandstorms hit Beijing 4 to 5 times. The sand is brought to Beijing by wind from the western part of China. Tons of soil and dust travel hundreds of miles and blanket Beijing's streets, parked cars and apartment buildings. You would be amazed to see the ground has turned yellow overnight. The storm is so violent that you do not want to have a conversation with your friend on the road. If you open your mouth and then you close it, you may have the raw taste of sand in your mouth.
People in Beijing hate those storms. Sandstorms make the traffic jam in rush hours even more unpredictable, because the drivers have to drive slowly in order to have a clear view of the road conditions. Young students also hate sandstorms because whenever there is a sandstorm, they are not allowed to have any activities outside the classroom. It is so boring to sit in the classroom all day and the youngsters are so eager to go out and do some sports.
It is said that the closest desert is only 80 kilometers away from the city center. There is definitely much more to do for the local government to deal with the environmental problem.
8. Why do people in Beijing wear masks in the spring?
A. Because they are rather strange.
B. Because there are serious sandstorms.
C. Because their appearance are not beautiful.
D. Because they want to keep their face a secret.
9. What does the underlined word 揵lanket mean ?
A. cover. B. cross. C. destroy. D. dry .
10. What do people have to do when the storm come?
A. Drivers clean the road. B. They hold some activities.
C. Youngsters go out to do sports. D. Students stay in the classroom.
11. Which of the following would be the best title for the text?
A. People in Sandstorms B. How to Prevent Sandstorms
C. Sandstorms in Beijing D. What to Do in a Sandstorm

What you do after studying could have a big effect on how well you learn and remember. Today on Education Tips, we will explore two no-cost ways that can help you improve your learning: wakeful rest and sleep.
When many students finish studying, they often go straight to another activity. Perhaps they look at their phone or computer. They might even play a video game or watch television. But research suggests that resting after your study may help you remember what you have studied.
The basic idea is this: by stopping your activity after the study, your brain gets a chance to rest. Resting is difficult when you are playing computer games.
While this might sound unusual to you, many studies have explored the benefits of resting after learning梬hat is called 搘akeful rest.
A 2019 study found that both young and older adults were able to better remember information they learned after doing wakeful rest.
If you want to give 搘akeful rest a try, here are a few simple things to do. Rest quietly for five to ten minutes. Do not look at your phone, read stories or play games. It is really that easy!
Besides wakeful rest, sleep is also important for learning. The Division of Sleep Medicine at Harvard Medical School (HMS) notes that sleep helps people to learn in two ways. A report on the school抯 website explains that 揳 sleep-deprived(缺乏睡眠的) person cannot focus attention well and therefore cannot learn well”. It also says, “Sleep itself helps us to memorize and that memorizing is very important for learning new information.”
The National Sleep Foundation (NSF) suggests that adults between the ages of 20 and 64 get between 7 and 9 hours of sleep per day. Teenagers may need a little bit more, and people over the age of 65 may need a little less.
Try to get some 搘akeful rest after a study. Then try to get a good night抯 sleep. That抯 it梐 simple, no-cost way to help you remember what you learn.
12. What is paragraph 3 mainly about?
A. The importance of sleep. B. The good ways to get a rest.
C. The reason for having a rest. D. The types of resting activities.
13. Which activity might be recommended shortly after studying?
A. Reading a newspaper. B. Playing a video game.
C. Sitting there doing nothing. D. Having a nice sleep at night.
14. How long should teenagers sleep each day according to NSF?
A. Less than 7 hours. B. Just 7 hours.
C. No more than 9 hours. D. Around 9 hours.
15. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Low-cost Tips on Working
B. Good Things to Do After Your Study
C. Why Do We Need to Have a Good Sleep?
D. How Long Should We Rest After Learning?

Make sure you have a good sense of humor with them. Laughter is the key to happiness. Laugh a lot with them, and joke with them. Laughter may seem silly, but it's the secret to a lot in life. 19.
Make sure the communication is good. This goes along with trust, but always communicate how you feel, even if it's something that upsets you. Instead of screaming, talk to them. 20. It's important to communicate this to them, not to keep it bottled up.

A Successful Fun Game
Interesting games for all students were held on the school playground on March 11. There were various fun and exciting sports games, including tug of war, rope skipping and so on, among which balloon racing attracted more students than the other ones. Although it was cold outside, the playground was filled with the students laughters and cheers.
The Fun Game was organized for the first time to give the students a break from their heavy schoolwork pressure. It seemed to be a great success. A great many students said that they got a lot from that interesting game.
Hopefully, the laughters from the Fun Game will stay with them in their later study.
