A
When
you
were
trying
to
figure
out
what
to
buy
for
the
environmentalist
on
your
holiday
list,fur
probably
didn't
cross
your
mind.But
some
ecologists
and
fashion(时装)enthusiasts
are
trying
to
bring
back
the
market
for
fur
made
from
nutria(海狸鼠).
Unusual
fashion
shows
in
New
Orleans
and
Brooklyn
have
showcased
nutria
fur
made
into
clothes
in
different
styles.“It
sounds
crazy
to
talk
about
guilt?free
fur—unless
you
understand
that
the
nutria
are
destroying
vast
wetlands
every
year,”says
Cree
McCree,project
director
of
Righteous
Fur.
Scientists
in
Louisiana
were
so
concerned
that
they
decided
to
pay
hunters
$5
a
tail.Some
of
the
fur
ends
up
in
the
fashion
shows
like
the
one
in
Brooklyn
last
month.
Nutria
were
brought
there
from
Argentina
by
fur
farmers
and
let
go
into
the
wild.“The
ecosystem
down
there
can't
handle
this
non?native
species(物种).It's
destroying
the
environment.It's
them
or
us,”says
Michael
Massimi,an
expert
in
this
field.
The
fur
trade
kept
nutria
in
check
for
decades,but
when
the
market
for
nutria
collapsed
in
the
late
1980s,the
cat?sized
animals
multiplied
like
crazy.
Biologist
Edmond
Mouton
runs
the
nutria
control
program
for
Louisiana.He
says
it's
not
easy
to
convince
people
that
nutria
fur
is
green,but
he
has
no
doubt
about
it.Hunters
bring
in
more
than
300,000
nutria
tails
a
year,so
part
of
Mouton's
job
these
days
is
trying
to
promote
fur.
Then
there's
Righteous
Fur
and
its
unusual
fashions.Model
Paige
Morgan
says,“To
give
people
a
guilt?free
option
that
they
can
wear
without
someone
throwing
paint
on
them—I
think
that's
going
to
be
a
massive
thing,at
least
here
in
New
York.”Designer
Jennifer
Anderson
admits
it
took
her
a
while
to
come
around
to
the
opinion
that
using
nutria
fur
for
her
creations
is
morally
acceptable.She's
trying
to
come
up
with
a
label
to
attach
to
nutria
fashions
to
show
it
is
eco?friendly.

My
sister
Jeanne
and
I
were
born
only
14
months
apart,and
we
once
shared
many
happy
moments.She
liked
telling
jokes
to
me
and
I
would
laugh
heartily.
She
always
said
she
loved
my

and
it
was
the

by
the

we
had
years
without

and

to
family

age
19,I
had
moved
away
from
our
home
in
Wisconsin
to
live
on
my

in
Virginia.
Jeanne
got
married
at

became—well,I
didn't

what.We
lived

in
separate

our

somehow
ended.
Fast?forward
about
five
years.I
was

a

with
my
best
friend
to
New

City,a
place
I
had
never
been
to.It
was
so
different
from
my
hometown.I
was
used
to
riding
my
horse
to
the
corner
store
where
everyone
knew
everyone
and
everything
went
on
in
the
quiet
little
cowboy
town
of
Driver,Virginia.We
went
to
New

to
visit
my
friend's
cousin
and
see
the
sights.We
went
to
Little

the
Statue
of
Liberty,Chinatown,
and
several
Manhattan
clubs.I
had
never
seen
so
many
taxis
in
one
spot
in
all
my
life.
During
a
day
of
sightseeing,we
were
crossing
a
very
busy
street
loaded
with
people.Everyone
was
in
a
hurry.I
was
laughing
at
something
my
friend
just
said,and
then
I
suddenly
heard
my
name
yelled
from
somewhere
behind
me:“Cheryl!”The
voice
was
so
familiar.I
froze
in
my
steps
in
the
middle
of
the
road.Tears
welled
up
spontaneously(不由自主地)in
my
eyes.I
knew
without
a
shadow
of
a
doubt
that
it
was
my
sister
Jeanne.I
yelled
back
before
even
turning
to
look.“Jeanne?”
It
was
her.“Oh
my!”I
screamed,
and
I
began
pushing
people
out
of
my
way
to
get
to
her.The
crowd
started
to
part—even
by
New
York
standards,we
must
have
seemed
crazy.And
there
we
were,standing
in
the
middle
of
a
Manhattan
street,facing
each
other
and
smiling.I
couldn't
believe
it.

a
process
that

prevent
the
catastrophic

of
ice

to
researchers.
A
study
published
in
the
journal
Science
provides
a
glimmer
(一丝)of
hope
for
a
region
affected
by
climate
change.In
recent
years,several
studies
have
warned
that
the
ice
sheet,which
contributes
to
a
quarter
of
melted
ice
worldwide
annually,is
very
easy
to
break
up.Scientists
fear
even
slightly
melting
could
cause
global
sea
levels
to
rise
by
3
metres.
Researchers
at
the
Technical
University
of
Denmark
set
out
to
answer
how
the
bedrock
underneath
the
ice
sheet
of
West
Antarctica
behaves
as
the
ice
melts.To
study
the
land,the
team
analyzed
data
collected
by
high?precision
GPS
equipment
positioned
on
remote
rock
formations
in
West
Antarctica,which
measured
movements
of
the
land
down

over
a

period.
“After

team
has
been
rewarded
with
incredibly
valuable
data,which
tell
an
incredible
story
about
the
Earth,”
wrote
Valentina
Barletta.
The
team
found
that
the
Earth
was
pushing
the
bedrock
to
rise
faster
than
expected.In
2014,the
surface
rose
by
41
millimetres:
four
to
five
times
quicker
than
predicted.In
100
years,the
land
could
be
up
to
10
metres
higher
than
it
is
currently.
It
is
hoped
that
as
the
ice
melts,the
Earth's
crust
(地壳)will
bounce
back
much
faster
than
previously
expected.In
turn,this
could
stabilize
what
the
researchers
described
as
the
“catastrophic
collapse”
of
the
ice
sheet.
Barletta
told
Newsweek
the
ice
sheet
will
never
be
stable
if
global
warming
becomes
too
extreme.“Reducing
the
greenhouse
gas
will
give
the
ice
sheet
a
better
chance
of
survival
because
that
would
allow
some
known
and
unknown
feedback
to
create
better
conditions
for
the
ice,”
she
said.

2.So
why
did
these

Firstly,
there
are
few

in
the
region.
Building
the
terraces
therefore
meant
that
they
could
increase
the
areas
in
which
they
could
grow
rice.
Secondly,
although
the
region
has
plenty
of
rain,
the
mountains
are
steep
and
the
soil
is
shallow.
The
flat

catch
the

prevent

Some

make
any
real

to
the
world?
I
recently
learned
something
about
flamingos(火烈鸟)which
like
to
get
together
in
groups
of
a
thousand
or
more.Every
year
when
the
time
comes
for
migration,a
few
of
them
first
take
off
from
the
lake.But
none
of
the
others
seem
to
notice,so
the
small
group
returns.However,the
next
day
they
try
again.This
time
a
few
more
fly
along
with
them,but
most
of
them
still
pay
no
attention,so
they
return
again.They
try
for
several
times.Every
time
a
few
more
birds
join
in
but,since
the
thousands
of
others
still
take
no
notice,the
great
migration
plan
is
once
more
stopped.
Then
one
day
something
changes.The
same
small
group
of
birds
once
again
starts
flying
and
a
small
number
more
join
in
just
as
before,then
more.Finally,they
all
take
flight
and
the
migration
really
begins.What
a
spectacular
sight
it
must
be—thousands
of
flamingos
taking
off
into
the
sky
at
once!A
few
can
make
a
difference.Even
if
you're
the
one
to
take
the
first
step,and
continue
trying,others
will
someday
take
notice
and
together
we
will
solve
even
our
greatest
problems.

(比如先行词表示时间,常和on,in,by搭配;表示地点,常与on,in,at搭配;表示原因,与for搭配;表示方式,常与in,by,with搭配)
表示部分的词语常见的有:不定代词neither,either,some,any等数词(含基数词、序数词、分数和百分数);数词+名词;the+最高级/比较级,以及表示数目或数量的词语,如many,most,few,several,enough,half,a
