When I was in school, I joined an undergraduate program to chat with specific patients and then discuss it with others. But I had no specific training in this, and introducing myself to strangers was not one of my natural talents.
On one special visit, I cautiously entered a darkened room to find an elderly man lying in the bed. There was no one else in the room, and I firstly thought he was sleeping. When I moved a little closer to the bed, I realized that he was very much awake, but also very confused and anxious. He desperately wanted to communicate something to others, but I couldn't understand what he was saying. He seemed weak, and I couldn't tell if he was in pain, or just scared. I knew nothing about this man's life or history, and at that time I felt totally helpless. He obviously didn't want me to leave, but I felt so lost and uncomfortable that I had to leave the room after only a couple of minutes.
The next time I was at the hospital, I was asked to make followup visits with the same list of patients. I expected my time with the confused man to be just as short as the last time... if he was even still alive. It seemed pointless to prevent myself from trying to talk with someone who was so weak.
As I arrived at the room, the first thing I noticed was that the lights were on. His daughter was there chatting with him. He was sitting up in the bed and looked a bit better than before. I introduced myself to the daughter and explained to her that I had come by before. Addressing the patient, I then suggested that I was certain he didn't remember me at all.
To my surprise, he corrected me immediately.

Michael sat on the wooden bench outside the house holding a fourleaf clover (四叶草). Michael had believed that fourleaf clovers brought good luck, but he started doubting that kind of power.
Michael was eleven. It had been two months since his mom and dad died in an accident. A widow by the name of Jill adopted him. Michael had a dislike for Jill. Her voice was loud. She also made him do her chores (家庭杂务). Michael felt not as much as a son to her. He dreamed a lot. He spoke little. He cried secretly. He had even been working on a plan for two weeks to flee the house.
That was, until he heard Jill parking her Honda into the garage.
Michael stuffed the fourleaf clover in his left pocket. Before he realized it, Jill was standing in front of him, with a small beagle (毕格尔犬) in her hand. She put the beagle down. It ran to Michael and sat on his Nike tennis shoes. Michael knelt down to pet it. After a while, he looked up: “Is the dog for me?”
Jill laughed: “Of course! You are the slowest little boy ever! I've got you a little puppy to make you work faster.”
Michael couldn't see how a beagle would help with his chores, but he thought it would be nice to have a friend. “Give him a name,” Jill said.
Michael thought for a moment. He saw a big, black spot on his back. That's it! Spot! “I'll name him Spot!” Michael announced.
“Spot, Spot, stupid name but it'll do. Now, you'd better clean the bathroom and finish your homework before dinner's ready.”
“Yes, ma'am.”
Michael ran to the bathroom, with Spot by his side.

“What do you think about my audition (试奏) yesterday? My trill (颤音) should have been better, don't you think?” Abbie asked Mel and closed the lid of her violin case before school.
“It's no big deal, Abbie,” Mel said as they walked out the door. Mel didn't have time to worry about her little sister's mood. It turned out to be a busy day. She had a test in science class. She hit two home runs in softball. After school, she and her friends talked about their summer plans.
She forgot about the audition results until Abbie dragged her to the music room. Mel thought she'd probably be in the first violins.
Mel and Abbie found the list of names on the board. Abbie. Concertmaster. Abbie screamed, “I can't believe it!” “I can't wait to tell Mum and Dad!” Abbie rushed toward home. Mel kept reading. Mel. Second violins. What? There had to be some mistake. She'd figure out tomorrow.
When Mel got home, Abbie was playing her audition piece there. Music poured from Abbie's bow like water from a teapot — pure and perfect. And the trill sounded like a bird singing. Abbie was good — really good — but that wasn't the point. “Mr. Benson must have made a mistake,” Mel thought.
The next morning, Mel slipped into the music room. Gathering her courage, Mel said, “Mr. Benson, I want to talk to you about the orchestra (管弦乐队) seats.”
“Yes — you must be proud of your sister,” Mr. Benson smiled. “Abbie is a rare student. If she continues to practice hard and grow as a musician, she could become a professional. Then we'll look back on our little orchestra and think about how lucky we were.”
Mel froze as there wasn't any mixup.

阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。
The plot of the muchloved film, Paddington 2, centers around a unique popup book (立体书) and a bear. Paddington, a goodsouled bear, who is the leading role of the film, performs several odd jobs to purchase the popup book in Samuel Gruber's antique shop for Aunt Lucy's 100th birthday. After opening it, Paddington is transported into a dreamlike world of London's city scene, from where Paddington really starts his journey.
In the movie, the dustcovered popup book is made up of London city landmarks. The River Thames plays an important role in the popup book — the ocean liner coming in under Tower Bridge, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament giving way to the view of the boat traffic on the river. Paddington's wonder at seeing these landmarks is meant to show how books, pictures and construction can fuel a child's imagination.
The film is based on the children's books of the author Michael Bond, who 60 years ago, published the first book, A Bear Called Paddington, in 1958. There were 15 Paddington titles in all, plus picture and gift books, a cook book and a guide to London. The books describe Paddington's life, travels and adventures in London, which usually involve a considerable number of tricks and troubles.
In the movie, Paddington 1, Paddington is found by the Browns with a note “Please look after this bear. Thank you.” Bond has said he was inspired by children who had to leave London on trains during World War Ⅱ. “They all had a label round their neck with their name and address on and a little case or package containing all their treasured possessions,” he said. “So Paddington, in a sense, was a refugee (难民), and I do think that there's no sadder sight than refugees.”

Daniel Hernandez always knew he wanted to help people. Before he’d even graduated from high school, he trained to be a certified nursing assistant and volunteered at a nursing home. A big kid with a gentle, efficient manner, he learned to use needles to draw blood, to lift patients in his strong arms, and to respond swiftly and calmly to every emergency.
He never quite got around to taking the exam to become fully certified, though, because by then he’d decided he wanted to work in public service. He felt inspired by the good that responsible lawmakers can do, so in his junior year at the university, he declared a major in political science and began volunteering in political campaigns. One hero of his was his local congresswoman (国会女议员), Gabrielle Giffords, the kindest, warmest human being he thought he had ever met in his entire life.
He was overjoyed when he was picked for an internship (实习期) with her, and he gladly gave up a part-time sales job for the chance to work on her team. So eager was he that he started work four days earlier than he was supposed to. On Saturday morning, he arrived at his workplace, where about 30 people were gathering to meet Giffords. It was Hernandez’s job to sign people in and guide them into a queue in order to get each to have a photo taken with the congresswoman.
At 10:10 a.m., Hernandez heard loud sounds. “Gun!” someone yelled. He heard people screaming and saw them falling to the ground. Hernandez was standing 30 feet away from Giffords when she fell down. In seconds, figuring there was danger to the congresswoman, he was at her side.
Before the doctors came, Hernandez tried his best to remain calm at that fateful moment. Giffords was lying on the sidewalk with blood streaming down her face from a bullet wound to her head. Gently, Hernandez lifted her into a sitting position against his shoulder so she wouldn’t choke on her blood. Then, with his bare hand, he applied pressure to the wound on her forehead to stop the bleeding.

参考答案:
A
To my surprise, he corrected me immediately. “I remember you. You are the kind man!” he said excitedly. I thought he must be mistaking me for someone else, but he then accurately told me enough details of our first meeting. I was so confused about that. In my first visit to this weak patient, I did absolutely nothing to help this man except show up. Then he explained that my presence last time gave him hope to live. We talked a little more that day and said goodbye.
After this visit, the words the old man said to me were always in my mind. I must admit that a stranger in hospital whose name I even didn't know changed my attitude to the life with a single comment. It reshaped the way I see life, the way I see myself, and the way I see others. It makes me want to offer whatever kindness I can to others, and I try to recognize and appreciate the kindness that others offer to me. Obviously, we couldn't know the impact our actions, or even just our presence, has on life.

Michael ran to the bathroom, with Spot by his side. This time he didn't feel lonely when cleaning, for the little dog was just there accompanying him. It was just a beginning. Now having a friend to play with, Michael didn't even have time to think about his escape plan. Instead, feeding and training Spot became his source of fun. And surprisingly, even Jill's loud voice didn't seem that annoying to him.
Two weeks passed, and everyone could see something changed in Michael. He was happy again. In the school he performed better and made more friends. After a day filled with pleasure, Michael came back to his room with Spot. “Were it not for Spot, I wouldn't lead such a happy life.” He thought to himself. And then inside his left pocket, he found the fourleaf clover, which was considered as an indicator of good luck. He believed in it again.
C
Mel froze as there wasn't any mixup. She realized she was the one who'd made a mistake. Her little sister had earned the first chair through efforts — and she hadn't even congratulated her. Mel walked down the hall. Most days, she spent her time thinking about softball, her classes and her friends. Every day was so full that she didn't always practice her violin while Abbie played every day. Determined to make a change, Mel decided to have a talk with Abbie.
After school, Mel found Abbie on a bench outside, playing the violin. Mel made up her mind to apologize to Abbie after a brief inner struggle. She cleared her throat and started, “I'm so proud that you're concertmaster. I'm sorry I've been so mean. I guess I was jealous.” Abbie was surprised. “But you're popular, Mel. You get better grades. You're better at sports. You can do everything.” Mel shook her head. “I can't make a trill like you can.” “You can if you keep practicing.” Abbie smiled and asked if Mel would like to play with her. Mel agreed delightedly.

Paragraph 1:
Minutes later, ambulances and doctors arrived on the scene. They gently put Giffords into one ambulance. Still Hernandez stayed with her, holding her hand and talking to her constantly when she was conscious on the way to hospital. He told her not to be afraid and he would be with her until her husband came. He repeated she wouldn’t be alone and would surely survive. His words were really helpful to her situation in that emergency.
Paragraph 2:
Six out of nineteen victims died while Giffords, though seriously wounded, survived. Everything is OK now. Obviously, people give the credit to Hernandez who did quick and selfless actions. They are grateful Daniel Hernandez felt driven to be of service, but he himself refuses to mention those horrible minutes. Actually, he doesn’t see himself as a hero. He always thinks it a duty for doctors and public servants to spend their lives helping others, even if sometimes they give their lives that way.
