The
Supreme
Court
is
the
highest
court
in
the
United
States.
Let’s
meet
some
of
the
great
women
who
have
left
their
mark
on
our
country’
s
highest
court.
Margaret
Brent
In
the
early
years
of
our
nation,
women
were
generally
prevented
from
practicing
law.
However,there
were
some
exceptions.
One
such
exception
was
Margaret
Brent,
who
settled
in
Maryland
with
her
sisters
in
1638
and
became
a
wealthy
landowner.Brent
appeared
before
courts
several
times
to
file
lawsuits
against
people
who
owed
her
money.
Lucy
Terry
Prince
Lucy
was
well-known
for
her
skills
as
a
public
speaker,
and
in
1796
she
became
the
first
black
woman
in
America
to
argue
before
a
Supreme
Court
justice.
The
case
arose
from
a
land
dispute,
and
Lucy
argued
against
two
leading
lawyers.Chief
justice
Samuel
Chase,
who
oversaw
the
case,said
that
Prince
"made
a
better
argument
than
he
had
ever
heard
from
a
lawyer
in
Vermont.”
Ruth
Bader
Ginsburg
Born
in
Brooklyn,
New
York,
in
1933,
Ginsburg
attended
Cornell
University
and
Columbia
Law
school.
Between
1972
and
1978,
Ginsburg
argued
six
cases
before
the
Supreme
Court
concerning
laws
that
kept
women
out
of
certain
occupations.
She
won
five
of
them.
In
the
spring
of
1993,
Justice
Byron
White
retired
from
the
Supreme
Court.
President
Bill
Clinton
then
picked
Ginsburg
to
be
his
replacement.
Myra
Bradwell
In
1872,
the
Illinois
Supreme
Court
denied
Myra
Bradwell’
s
admission
to
the
Illinois
Bar
despite
the
fact
that
she
had
passed
the
state
bar
exam.
Bradwell
then
asked
the
U.
S.
Supreme
Court
to
overturn
the
Illinois
court’s
decision.Unfortunately
for
Bradwell,
the
tables
weren’t
turned.
The
Supreme
Court
claimed
that
there
was
nothing
unconstitutional
about
denying
a
woman
the
chance
to
practice
as
a
lawyer.
21.
Which

the
following

Considerate
and
optimistic
D.
Traditional
and
scholarly
22.
What
was
Samuel
Chase’
s
attitude
to
Lucy’s
argument?
A.Favorable
B.
Uncaring
C.
Doubtful
D.
Grateful
23.
What
does
the
author
mean
by
the
underlined
sentence
in
the
text?
A.
Bradwell
failed
the
state
bar
exam
B.
Bradwell'
s
request
was
unconstitutional
C.
The
Illinois
Supreme
Court

the
law
D.
The
Supreme
Court
ruled
against
Bradwell
B
Five
years
ago,
when
I
taught
art
at
a
school
in
Seattle,
I
used
Tinkertoys
as
a
test
at
the
beginning
of
a
term
to
find
out
something
about
my
students.
I
put
a
small
set
of
Tinkertoys
in
front
of
each
student,
and
said:”Make
something
out
of
the
Tinkertoys.
You
have
45
minutes
today
-
and
45minutes
each
day
for
the
rest
of
the
week.”
A
few
students
hesitated
to
start.
They
waited
to
see
the
rest
of
the
class
would
do.
Several
others
checked
the
instructions
and
made
something
according
to
one
of
the
model
plans
provided.
Another
group
built
something
out
of
their
own
imaginations.
Once
I
had
a
boy
who
worked
experimentally
with
Tinkertoys
in
his
free
time.
His
constructions
filled
a
shelf
in
the
art
classroom
and
a
good
part
of
his
bedroom
at
home.
I
was
delighted
at
the
presence
of
such
a
student.
Here
was
an
exceptionally
creative
mind
at
work.
His
presence
meant
that
I
had
an
unexpected
teaching
assistant
in
class
whose
creativity
would
infect(感染)
other
students.
Encouraging
this
kind
of
thinking
has
a
downside.
I
ran
the
risk
of
losing
those
students
who
had
a
different
style
of
thinking.
Without
fail
one
would
declare,
”But
I’m
just
not
creative.”
“Do
you
dream
at
night
when
you’re
asleep?”
“Oh,
sure.”
“So
tell
me
one
of
your
most
interesting
dreams.”
The
student
would
tell
something
wildly
imaginative.
Flying
in
the
sky
or
in
a
time
machine
or
growing
three
heads.
“That’s
pretty
creative.
Who
does
that
for
you?”
“Nobody.
I
do
it.”
“Really-at
night,
when
you’re
asleep?”
“Sure.”
“Try
doing
it
in
the
daytime,
in
class,
okay?”
24.
The
teacher
used
Tinkertoys
in
class
in
order
to
________?
A.
know
more
about
the
students
B.
make
the
lessons
more
exciting
C.
raise
the
students’
interest
in
art
D.
teach
the
students
about
toy
design
25.
What
do
we
know
about
the
boy
mentioned
in
Paragraph
3?
A.
He
liked
to
help
his
teacher.
B.
He
preferred
to
study
alone.
C.
He
was
active
in
class.
D.
He
was
imaginative.
26.
What
does
the
underlined
word
“downside”
in
Paragraph
4
probably
mean?
A.
Mistake.
B.
Drawback.
C.
Difficulty.
D.
Burden.
C
What
thing
in
your
home
is
most
germy
?
If
you
said
the
toilet
seat,
your
answer
is
fallacious.
Kitchen
cleaning
brushes
top
the
list.
But
cell
phones
are
pretty
dirty
too.
They
contain
around
10
times
as
many
germs
as
toilet
seats.
People
touch
their
phones,
laptops,
and
other
digital
devices
all
day
long,
yet
rarely
clean
them.
In
one
incident,
a
thief
paid
a
terrible
price
for
stealing
a
germy
cell
phone.
He
stole
it
from
a
hospital
in
Uganda
during
an
epidemic
of
the
deadly
disease
Ebola,
The
phone’s
owner
reported
the
stealing
before
dying
from
the
disease.Soon,
the
thief
began
showing
symptoms
and
admitted
his
crime.
In
that
unusual
case,
a
cell
phone
carried
dangerous
bacteria.
But
not
all
germs
are
bad.
Most
cause
no
harm.
In
fact,
they
could
provide
helpful
information.
Look
at
the
surface
of
your
phone
carefully.Do
you
see
some
greasy
smudges
?“
That’
s
all
you,"
says
microbial
ecologist
Jarrad
Hampton-Marcell.
"That’
s
biological
information.
It
turns
out
that
the
types
of
germs(also
known
as
microbes)
that
you
smudge
all
over
your
phone
are
different
from
those
of
your
friends
and
family.
They’re
like
a
fingerprint
that
could
identify
you.
Some
day
in
the
future,
police
may
use
these
microbial
fingerprints
to
solve
crimes.
Phones
and
digital
devices
may
be
one
of
the
best
places
to
look
for
evidence.”
In
a
2017
study,
researchers
sampled
a
range
of
surfaces
in
22
participants’
homes,
from
beds
and
floors
to
computer
mice.
Then
they
tried
to
match
the
microbial
fingerprints
on
each
object
to
its
owner.
The
office
equipment
was
easiest
to
match
to
its
owner.
In
an
earlier
study,
a
different
group
of
researchers
found
that
they
could
use
microbial
fingerprints
to
identify
the
person
who
had
used
a
computer
keyboard
even
after
the
keyboard
sat
untouched
for
two
weeks
at
room
temperature.
One
day,
microbial
signatures
might
show
where
people
have
gone
and
what
they
have
touched.
They
could
prove
that
an
unmarked
device
is
yours.
So,
sure,
your
phone
is
pretty
germy.
Does
that
inspire
you,
or
does
it
frighten
you?
27.What
does
the
underlined
word“
fallacious”in
paragraph1
mean?
A.
Wrong
B.
Quick
C.
Direct
D.
Honest
28.
What
does
the
Ugandan
hospital
incident
show?
A.Ebola
is
a
very
serious
disease
B.
Cell
phones
are
heaven
to
germs
C.
Crimes
in
hospitals
are
easy
to
solve
D.
Using
others'
cell
phones
may
give
you
a
disease
29.
What
idea
is
conveyed
in
Jarrad
Hampton-Marcell’s
words
?
A.
Everyone
carries
a
unique
set
of
germs
B.
Digital
technology
helps
a
lot
in
crime-solving
C.
People
can
be
identified
from
their
fingerprints
D.
People
may
become
sick
after
using
phones
a
lot
30.
What
was
a
result
of
the
2017
study?
A.
The
mouse
owner
was
identified
most
quickly
B.
Computer
keyboards
carried
most
germs
C.
Germs
live
well
at
room
temperature
D.
Our
homes
are
also
homes
to
germs
