On
November
7,
Lewis
Pugh
completed
a
one-kilometer
swim
in
the
freezing
waters
of
King
Edward
Cove,
off
South
Georgia
in
Antarctica.
He
was
wearing
only
his
swimming
glasses,
cap
and
speedos!
Pugh
is
an
advocate
for
our
oceans
and
seas,
working
to
protect
these
ecosystem
with
their
large
diversity
of
marine
life.
When
asked
why
he
doesn’t
wear
a
wetsuit,
Lewis
says,
“I
ask
world
leaders
to
do
everything
they
can
to
protect
our
oceans.
Sometimes
the
steps
they
need
to
take
are
difficult
and
unpopular.
If
I’m
asking
them
to
be
courageous,
I
must
also
be.
Swimming
in
a
wetsuit
would
not
send
the
right
message.”
It
took
Pugh
about
19
minutes
to
complete
the
one-kilometer
swim
in
Antarctica
where
the
water
averaged
about
1.6
degrees
Celsius
.
He
says
that
his
body
can
only
tolerate
about
20
minutes
in
the
freezing
waters
before
it
starts
shutting
down.
As
he
swims,
his
body
temperature
steadily
drops,
which
in
turn
causes
his
muscle
control
to
drop,
slowing
him
down.
When
he
is
done
with
his
swim,
his
support
team
rushes
him
to
a
hot
shower
and
it
takes
almost
an
hour
for
his
body
temperature
to
return
to
normal.
Doctors
and
Pugh
caution
that
one
must
receive
months
of
training
to
swim
in
such
cold
waters.
Even
expert
swimmers
who
are
unused
to
freezing
water
can
drown
within
minutes
because
of
the
physical
shock
experienced
by
the
body.
Pugh
says
he
trained
for
six
months
before
this
swim.
This
is
not
the
first
time
that
Lewis
has
swum
in
dangerous
conditions.
In
2007,
he
swam
one
kilometer
in
the
North
Pole
to
draw
attention
to
the
melting
Arctic
ice
due
to
climate
change.
In
2015,
he
swam
in
the
Bay
of
Whales
in
Antarctica’s
Ross
Sea
as
part
of
his
successful
campaign
to
help
set
up
a
marine
reserve
there.

New

is
an
island
country
in
the
southwest
of
Pacific
Ocean.
The
country
geographically
comprises
two
main
lands—the
North
Island,
or
Te
Ika-a-Maui,
and
the
South
Island,
or
Te
Waipounamu,
and
numerous
smaller
islands.
New

is
situated
some
1,500
kilometers
east
of
Australia
across
the
Tasman
Sea
and
roughly
1,000
kilometers
south
of
the
Pacific
island
areas
of
New
Caledonia,
Fiji,
and
Tonga.
Because
of
its
remoteness,
it
was
one
of
the
last
lands
to
be
settled
by
humans.
The
country’s
varied
topography(地形)and
its
sharp
mountain
peaks,
such
as
the

owe
much
to
volcanic
eruptions.
New

the
city

somewhere
between
1250
and
1300
AD,
and
developed

culture.
In
1642,
Abel
Tasman,
a
Dutch
explorer
became
the
first
European

sight
New

in
1840.
Representatives
of
the
British
Crown(王室)
and
Maori

the
Treaty

making
New

a
British
colony.
Today,
the
majority
of
New

is
of
European
descent(血统),
and
the
indigenous(土著的)
Maori
are
the
largest
minority,
followed
by
Asians
and
Pacific
Islanders.
Reflecting
this,
New

culture
is
mainly
originated
from
Maori
and
early
British
settlers,
with
recent
broadening
arising
from
increased
immigration.

The
Indian
government
may
use
3D
paintings
as
virtual
speed-breakers
on
major
highways
and
roads,
in
an
attempt
to
check
speeding
and
careless
driving,and
eventually
make
its
deadly
roads
a
little
safer.
“We
are
trying
out
3D
paintings
used
as
virtual
speed
breakers
to
avoid
unnecessary
requirements
of
speed
breakers,”
India’s
transport
minister
Nitin
Gadkari
tweeted.
The
visual
illusions
(幻象)
are
supposed
to
encourage
drivers
to
slow
down
automatically.
Earlier
this
month,
India
had
ordered
the
removal
of
all
speed
breakers
from
highways,
which
are
considered
to
be
a
danger
to
safety
for
high-speed
vehicles.
India
has
the
highest
number
of
road
accident
deaths
in
the
world.
According
to
the
World
Health
Organization,
over
200,00
people
are
killed
by
road
accidents
due
to
poor
application
of
road
safety
laws.
This
is
considerably
higher
than
its
official
figures
of
141,526
for
2014.
The
use
of
visual
illusions
as
speed
breakers
was
first
pioneered
in
the
American
city
of
Philadelphia
in
2008,
as
part
of
a
campaign
against
speeding
motorists.
The
technique
has
also
been
tried
out
in
China
to
create
floating
3D
crossings.
In
India,
cities
such
as
Ahmedabad
and
Chennai
have
already
experimented
with
3D
zebra
crossings
in
the
last
one
year.
In
Ahmedabad
for
instance,
two
artists,
mother
and
daughter
have
painted
3D
crosswalks
in
the
first
few
months
of
this
year.
The
artists
say
their
motto
is
“to
increase
the
attention
of
drivers”,
and
that
the
concept
has
been
successfully
tested
in
zones
where
accidents
easily
occur
on
a
highway.
However,
critics
argue
that
once
drivers
know
that
these
speed
breakers
are
visual
illusions,
they
may
ignore
them.
Others
also
point
out
that
India’s
decision
does
not
consider
the
safety
of
a
large
number
of
walkers.
In
the
end,
the
new
policy
may
be
just
one
step
towards
improving
road
safety.

passage,

class.
39
Definitely.
One
of
the
most
exciting
aspects
of
college
life
is
that
it
introduces
you
to
new
subjects
and
arouses
new
passions.
However,
keep
this
in
mind
:
Every
major
has
necessary
coursework
.
If
you
change
your
major
late
in
the
game,
it
may
take
more
than
the
traditional
four
years
to
earn
a
degree.
What
are
minors
and
double
majors?
If
one
field
of
study
doesn't
satisfy
your
intellectual
appetite,
consider
a
minor.
A
minor
is
similar
to
a
major,
which
is
an
area
of
academic
concentration.
40
Double
majors
provide
you
with
an
understanding
of
two
academic
fields.
It
allows
you
to
become
familiar
with
two
sets
of
values
and
views
while
it
also
requires
you
to
fulfill
two
sets
of
requirements.
A.
Some
schools
may
give
you
one
year
or
more
to
decide.
B.
The
only
difference
is
that
it
doesn't
require
as
many
classes
as
major.
C.
It
is
your
specialized
area
of
study
in
college.
D.
Most
students
find
one
major
is
more
than
enough.
E.
Can
I
change
my
mind?
F.
Here's
what
you
need
to
know
about
college
majors
before
you
choose.
G.
Is
my
major
time-consuming?

英语知识运用(共两节,满分45分)
第一节
完形填空(共20小题,
每小题1.5分,
满分30分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的四个选项中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳答案。
Pam
Bales,an
experienced
hiker,stepped
onto
snow-covered
Jewell
Trail.
The
hike
up
the
lower
part
of
Jewell
was
41
.
But
less
than
an
hour
later,the
weather
was
showing
its
teeth.
Bales
began
to
42
calling
it
a
day.
Then
she
noticed
something:
a
single
set
of
43
in
the
snow
ahead
of
her.
She'd
been
44
unclear
tracks
all
day
and
hadn't
given
them
much
45
,because
so
many
people
climb
Jewell
Trail.
But
these,as
a
volunteer
of
the
Valley
Search
and
Rescue
Team,she
46
,had
been
made
by
a
pair
of
sneakers,which
was
surely
not
for
this
kind
of
trail.
Strong
wind
screamed,
and
47
was
just
hours
away.
48
Bales
continued
to
follow
the
tracks,she'd
add
49
to
the
journey.
But
the
tracks
ahead
meant
someone
might
be
50
.
She
could
not
let
this
go.
She
silently
scolded
the
absent
hiker
for
51
normal
safety
rules
and
struggled
to
walk
carefully
in
the
direction
of
the
tracks.
After
about
tracks
to
30
yards,
she
rounded
a
corner
and
saw
a
man
sitting
motionless.
He
wore
tennis
sneakers
and
a
light
jacket.
She
checked
him
for
any
sign
of
52
.
There
was
none.
Bales
had
been
trained
in
search
and
rescue
and
knew
that
he
was
hypothermic
(
体温过低的
)
and
would
53
soon
if
he
didn't
get
out
of
there.
The
man
said
he
had
lost
his
way
and
was
extremely
54
.
Bales
brought
a
pair
of
soft-shell
pants,
a
winter
hat,
and
a
jacket
from
her
pack.
She
helped
the
man
55
the
warm,
dry
layers
onto
his
body
and
offered
him
some
hot
cocoa.
56
he
stood.
She
offered
continuous
encouragement—“
Keep
going!
You're
doing
great."
Just
before
6
p.
m.,they
arrived
at
the
trailhead
very
57
.
Her
climb
up
to
the
spot
where
she
58
the
man
had
taken
about
four
hours.
Two
hours
had
passed
since
then.
A
week
later,
the
president
of
Bales'
rescue
group
received
a
letter
in
the
mail.
It
read:
“
On
Sunday
October
17,1
went
up
my
trail,Jewell.
Weather
was
to
be
bad.
But
without
thinking
too
much
I
was
dressed
to
go
quickly.
Next
thing
I
knew
this
lady
was
talking
to
me,changing
my
clothes,
making
me
warmer.
She
just
kept
59
me.
Finally,
I
learned
her
name
was
Pam.
The
entire
time
she
treated
me
with
compassion
(同情心),confidence,and
one

About

W:
How
do
you
know?
M:
Well,
I
came
out
for
the
same
reason.
I
wanted
to
watch
the
football

while
Ann
wanted
to
watch
a

W:
Ann

lucky.
At

Text10
This
is
Johnson,
a
reporter
from
CNN.
I’m
bringing
you
a
special
news
report.
A
six-year-old
boy
has
been
found
alive
after
spending
almost
10
hours
in
a
refrigerator
that
was
buried
under
tons
of
ruins
in
the
big
earthquake
that
took
place
early
on
the
morning
of
Wednesday
last
week.
The
boy,
Tom,
was
found
early
yesterday
in
the
village
of
Sem
as
people
were
working
to
pull
his
father
out
of
the
ruins
of
their
home.
Hearing
a
faint
cry
of
“
get
me
out,
get
me
out”,
some
men
dug
down
another
1.5meters
and
found
the
boy
in
the
refrigerator.
He
was
described
in
good
condition,
suffering
only
four
or
five
minor
wounds.
Tom’s
eight
brothers
and
sisters
died
in
the
earthquake.
Officials
say
that
there
may
have
killed
as
many
as
5000
people.
By
yesterday
afternoon,
foreign
doctors
were
leaving
the
earthquake
area,
as
the
hope
of
finding
more
survivors
had
lost.

a
copy
of
the
book.”(参加一个赢取这本书的机会)可推知The
Adventures
of
Amilya
Rose:
The
Lie这本书有可能免费获得。故选D。
22.细节理解题。根据Ocean
Meets
Sky部分“Finn’s
grandfather
has
gone
but
Finn
knows
the
perfect
way
to
honor
him.”(Finn的祖父已经去世了,但Finn知道纪念他的最佳方式)可知Ocean
Meets
Sky这本书是关于失去亲人的。故选C。
23.细节理解题。根据Invisible
Emmie部分“The
novel
tells
the
story
of
two
totally
different
little
girls
in
a
class
—
quiet,
shy
and
artistic
Emmie
and
popular,
outgoing,
athletic
Katie
—
and
how
their
lives
unexpectedly
connected
one
day,
when
an
embarrassing
note
falls
into
the
wrong
hands.
Emmie
eventually
learns
to
speak
up
for
herself,
realizing
that
being
social
isn’t
as
impossible
as
she
thought.”(小说讲述了两个完全不同的小女孩在一个班里的故事——安静、害羞、有艺术天赋的Emmie和受欢迎、外向、有运动天赋的Katie——她们的生活如何在某一天意外地联系在一起,当一张令人尴尬的纸条落入了错误的人手中。Emmie最终学会了为自己说话,意识到社交并不像她想的那样不可能)可知这个故事是写同学关系的。再根据By
Terri
Libenson,
published
in
2017可知作者是Terri
Libenon。故选B。
【答案】24.
D
25.
C
26.
B
27.
D
【解析】这是一篇记叙文。主要讲述了Lewis
Pugh为了呼吁政府采取措施保护海洋而在南极海洋水温很低的情况下,不穿防寒泳衣游泳的勇敢事迹。
24.细节理解题。根据第二段的I
ask
world
leaders
to
do
everything
they
can
to
protect
our

Sometimes
the
steps
they
need
to
take
are
difficult
and
unpopular.
If
I’m
asking
them
to
be
courageous,
I
must
also
be.
Swimming
in
a
wetsuit
would
not
send
the
right
message.可知,他不穿防寒泳衣的原因是展示他的勇敢,故选D。
25.词义猜测题。此题要结合上文语境He
says
that
his
body
can
only
tolerate
about
20
minutes
in
the
freezing
waters
before可知他在冰水里游泳身体只能忍受20分钟,下文中提到他游泳时体温在慢慢下降,肌肉控制力也在下降,可推测出此处的it指的是his
body,故选C。
26.细节理解题。根据第四段的Doctors
and
Pugh
caution
that
one
must
receive
months
of
training
to
swim
in
such
cold
waters.可知,一个人要想在冰冷的水里游泳必须得训练很长时间才可以,即要做足准备工作才行,故选B。
27.主旨大意题。文章主要讲述的是Pugh为保护海洋而在极寒的水里游泳,他用行动去展示他保护海洋的决心和勇气,由此可知D项是最佳标题。
【答案】28.A

【解析】这是一篇说明文,作者主要介绍了科学家关于人类味觉的新研究成果:有的人有“苦味基因”,有的人则没有,这些人对食物的感觉不尽相同。现代人们通过多种方法使蔬菜食物更为可口。
61.考查定语从句用法,句意:那些拥有
“苦味”基因的人…。who在此处引导定语从句修饰those并代替those作从句中的主语,故填who。
62.考查非谓语动词,该空前已有谓语动词are
并且根据be
likely
后接不定式的结构,故此处填to
eat。
63.考查冠词,首次提到的单个人或物的前面常用冠词修饰,又因为expert是元音音素开头的单词,故填an。
64.考查名词,some
of
之后要接可数名词的复数形式,故填differences。
65.考查介词及固定搭配,根据be
sensitive
to…结构得知填介词to。
66.考查谓语动词,根据文章的时态判断此处应用一般现在时,根据句意“另外百分之二十五的人被称之为”味盲者“可知此处还要使用被动语态,而且主语是复数意义,故此用are
called。

tired,表示程度,故填extremely。

改错:
【答案】
71.第二句:get→got
72.第三句:that→which
73.第四句:call→called
74.第五句:such→so
75.第六句:in→on
76.第七句:they→
we
77.第七句:spot→spots
78.第八句:late→later
79.第九句:去掉but
80.第十句:unforgettable前加an
【解析】这是一篇记叙文。文章讲述了作者和家人暑假去一个海滨城市度假的故事。
71.考查一般过去时。句意:我们乘飞机到达那里。全文用的都是一般过去时,所以这句话也应使用一般过去时。故将get改为got。
72.考查非限制性定语从句。句意:这是一个非常美丽又现代的城市,给我们留下了深刻的印象。这是一个非限制性定语从句,从句缺少主语,且先行词应该为前边整句话,所以关系词应用which。故将that改为which。
73.考查过去分词作定语。句意:第一天,我们乘公共汽车去了一个叫海洋公园的地方。根据句意,这里的a
place被叫作“Sea
Park”,因此应该使用过去分词作定语。故将call改为called。
74.考查副词。句意:这儿有如此多不同种类的鱼以至于我不能相信自己的眼睛。在so…that和such…that句型中,名词前有many,
much,
few,
little修饰时只能用
so...that,不能用
such
...that。故将such改为so。
75.考查介词。句意:在第二天。具体到某一天要用介词on,
故将in改为on。
76.考查代词。句意:我们去了一些旅游景点。整篇文章都在将我和家人度假的情况,不是他们,故把they改成we。
77.考查名词的数。句意:接下来的两天内,我们去了一些旅游景点,购物,拍照片。spot是可数名词,其前面有some修饰,故应用spot的复数形式。故将spot改为spots。
78.考查副词。句意:几天后,我们离开了那座城市。late表示“迟的;晚的”;later常与一个表示具体时间的名词连用,指从过去或将来某一时间算起的“……后”“过了……”。根据句意,故将late改为later。
79.考查连词。句意:虽然在回家的路上我们感觉累,但是我们对假期感觉很开心。所以although引导让步状语从句,所以逗号后的句子是主句,故要去掉but。
80.考查不定冠词。句意:多么难忘的经历。分析句子结构可知,这是一个感叹句。experience是作“经历”讲时,是可数名词,
所以这里应加上定冠词,unforgettable是元音音素开头,故要用an。故在unforgettable前加an。
