Peter
Pan
is
one
of
the
best-loved
children's
books
of
all
time.
The
story
begins
with
“All
children
grow
up,
except
one”.
It
tells
the
story
of
Peter
Pan,
a
little
boy
who
never
grows
up
and
can
fly.
Wendy,
John
and
Michael
Darling
live
in
London
with
their
parents
and
their
nurse,
a
dog
called
Nana.
One
night
when
Mr.
and
Mrs.
Darling
went
out,
Peter
got
into
the
house
through
the
window
and
met
Wendy.
Peter
taught
the
darling
children
to
fly
and
took
them
away
to
Neverland,
an
island
which
people
could
reach
only
by
flying.
It
was
an
island
that
was
full
of
fun
and
happiness,
and
only
children
who
did
not
want
to
grow
up
could
live
there.
On
Neverland,
they
met
pirates,
fairies,
Indians
and
mermaids
and
had
lots
of
adventures.
On
the
island,
Wendy
became
a
mother
for
some
children
called
the
Lost
Boys.
They
lived
with
Peter
Pan
in
a
house
under
the
ground.
But
Captain
Hook,
an
evil
pirate
who
had
an
iron
hook(钩)
instead
of
a
right
hand,
caught
Wendy
and
the
boys.
Peter
went
to
the
pirate
ship
to
rescue
them
and
there
was
a
dramatic
sword
fight
between
him
and
the
captain.
The
fight
was
long
and
hard.
At
last,
Hook
failed
and
was
eaten
by
the
crocodile.
After
that,
the
children
flew
back
to
their
home
in
London.
Mrs.
Darling
agreed
to
adopt
all
the
Lost
Boys.
She
offered
to
adopt
Peter,
too,
but
he
didn't
want
to
grow
up
and
returned
to
Neverland.
Many
years
passed,
when
Peter
visited
Wendy
again,
she
had
a
daughter
of
her
own.
Peter
took
her
daughter
to
Neverland
for
a
visit,
and
then
years
later
he
took
her
daughter's
daughter.
Peter
Pan
has
become
the
symbol
of
“eternal(永恒的)
childhood”.
The
novel
praises
the
valuable
memories
in
childhood,
which
is
the
most
beautiful
music
of
life.
There
is
a
Peter
Pan
in
everyone's
mind
where
they
do
believe
fairy
tales.

Huck
is
my
name,
Huckleberry
Finn.
The
story
started
when
my
best
friend,
Tom
Sawyer,
and
I
found
$12,000
in
a
cave.
That
money
made
us
rich.
We
got
$6,000
each.
Judge
Thatcher,
an
important
man
in
St.
Petersburg,
put
it
in
the
bank,
and
now
we
get
a
dollar
a
day
as
interest(利息).
Then
a
kind
old
lady
called
Widow
Douglas
invited
me
to
live
with
her
because
I
haven't
got
a
family
or
a
home.
My
mother
died
a
long
time
ago,
then
my
dad,
Pap,
disappeared.
He
was
a
violent(狂暴的)
man,
especially
when
he
drank
a
lot,
which
was
most
of
the
time,
and
he
often
beat
me.
I
was
scared
of
him.
I
didn't
go
to
school
like
the
other
boys
of
my
age.
I
lived
on
the
streets
and
in
the
woods.
My
life
changed
after
I
lived
with
the
widow(寡妇).
She
gave
me
a
bed
to
sleep
in
and
bought
new
clothes
for
me.
She
read
stories
to
me
and
taught
me
how
to
eat
at
a
table.
But
then
her
sister
Miss
Watson
arrived.
She
brought
her
black
slave(奴隶)
Jim
with
her.
I
liked
Jim
but
I
didn't
like
Miss
Watson
very
much.
She
often
shouted
at
me.
Widow
Douglas
sent
me
to
school
every
day.
I
didn't
like
going
there
at
first
because
learning
was
very
difficult.
But
when
I
could
read
and
write
a
bit,
I
didn't
mind
going.
The
months
passed
and
winter
came.
The
weather
got
cold.
One
morning
I
woke
up
and
there
was
snow
on
the
ground.
On
my
way
to
school,
I
saw
some
footprints
outside
the
widow's
house.
There
was
a
cross
on
the
heel(脚后跟)
of
the
left
one.
My
heart
jumped.
Only
one
person
wore
boots
with
a
cross
on
the
left
heel!
Pap!
"He's
heard
about
my
money,
"I
thought.
"And
he
wants
it!"
That
night
I
went
to
see
Jim.
Jim
had
a
magic
ball
made
of
animal
hair.
There
was
a
spirit
inside
the
ball
that
could
answer
people's
questions
about
the
future.

On
the
whole
island,
there
were
only
three
small
huts,
and
one
of
these
was
empty
when
I
arrived.
There
were
holes
in
the
roof,
and
the
windows
were
broken,
but
I
had
them
mended
and
moved
in.
No
one
came
to
visit
me,
and
I
was
able
to
spend
my
days
working,
even
though
I
hated
what
I
was
doing,
and
there
were
days
when
I
could
not
continue.
However,
I
made
good
progress,
and
I
knew
that
soon
I
would
have
created
a
female.
The
monster
had
promised
that
if
I
made
a
female
for
him,
he
would
go
and
live
with
her
in
the
jungle
and
never
kill
again.
But
I
did
not
know
what
the
female
would
be
like.
It
was
possible
that
she
would
be
worse
than
the
monster
I
had
already
created.
There
was
also
the
possibility
that
she
would
hate
him.
Then
what
would
happen?
I
asked
myself.
Suddenly,
as
I
sat
thinking,
I
heard
a
noise
outside.
I
looked
out
of
the
window
and
saw
the
monster.
He
had
followed
me.
Looking
at
him,
I
knew
now
I
could
not.
I
knew
that
whatever
happened,
I
must
not
create
another
monster.
I
started
destroying
my
work.
Through
the
window,
the
monster
saw
me
do
this.
He
pushed
open
the
door.
“What
are
you
doing,
Victor?”
He
shouted
at
me.
“Why
have
you
broken
your
promise?
Why
are
you
now
destroying
all
my
hopes?
You
have
created
me,
but
I
am
your
master.
You
will
obey
me
and
keep
your
promise.”
“No,”
I
answered.
“I
will
not
create
another
monster.
Nothing
you
can
say
or
do
will
make
me
change
this
decision.
Now,
go.”
He
was
silent
for
a
moment.
Then
he
said,
“I
will
go
now,
but
I
shall
be
with
you
on
your
wedding
night.”
With
these
words
he
left
the
hut.
I
stood
at
the
door
of
my
hut,
knowing
it
was
useless
to
follow
him.
I
had
made
my
decision,
and
he
had
made
his.
“Would
that
be
the
end
of
his
anger?”
I
asked
myself.
“Or
would
he
kill
Elizabeth
also
if
I
married
her?”
I
passed
a
sleepless
night.

In
the
days
that
followed,
dear
reader,
I
slowly
became
friendly
with
the
emperor
and
his
people.
They
did
their
best
to
make
me
feel
at
home
and
brought
me
food
and
drink.
I
learnt
that
the
name
of
their
country
was
Liliput.
The
emperor
of
Liliput
was
a
noble-looking
man.
He
wore
expensive
clothes
and
had
a
big
hat
decorated
with
feathers.
The
empress
was
also
very
elegant(优雅的).
Hundreds
of
the
little
people
worked
together
to
make
new
clothes
for
me
and
they
gathered
six
hundred
mattresses(床垫)
to
make
me
a
bed.
The
people
of
Liliput
called
me
“
Man
Mountain”
and
they
came
from
all
over
the
country
to
see
me.
People
had
to
pay
to
see
me
and
the
money
made
the
emperor
very
rich.
One
day
the
emperor
organised
a
parade
for
his
people.
He
asked
me
to
stand
and
his
army
walked
through
my
legs
to
entertain
everyone.
There
were
thousands
of
soldiers,
and
some
of
them
were
on
horses.
Everyone
was
happy.
The
emperor
and
his
people
always
treated
me
well
and
helped
me
in
many
ways.
They
organised
language
lessons
for
me.
So
gradually
I
began
to
understand
and
communicate
with
the
Liliputians
and
learn
more
about
their
lives.
But
I
was
still
a
prisoner
in
my
temple
home
and
every
day
I
asked
the
emperor
the
same
question:
“
▲
”
“You
must
be
patient,”
he
always
answered.
Then
one
day
the
emperor
gave
me
the
freedom
to
walk
about
Liliput.
This
made
a
big
difference
to
me.
I
was
able
to
explore
the
land.
I
was
careful
not
to
hurt
the
people
or
damage
their
houses
as
I
walked.
Everyone
stayed
inside
and
ran
to
their
windows
to
look
at
me.
I
enjoyed
looking
into
the
windows
of
the
emperor’s
beautiful
palace
to
see
how
he
lived.

Buck
did
not
read
the
newspapers.
So
he
did
not
know
that
there
was
trouble
ahead.
Trouble
for
every
dog
with
strong
muscles
and
warm
long
hair,
from
Seattle
to
southern
California.
Some
men
had
found
a
yellow
metal
in
the
Arctic
darkness,
and
thousands
of
other
men
were
rushing
there.
Those
men
wanted
dogs
that
were
heavy,
with
strong
muscles
for
working
hard
and
furry
coats
to
protect
them
from
the
cold.
Buck
lived
at
a
big
house
in
a
sunny
valley
in
California
which
was
owned
by
Judge
Miller.
And
Buck
ruled
over
it
all.
He
was
born
there,
and
had
lived
there
for
the
four
years
of
his
life.
There
were
many
other
dogs,
but
they
lived
together
in
the
kennels
(狗窝),
or
inside
the
house.
But
Buck
was
neither
a
house
dog
nor
a
kennel
dog.
The
whole
of
Judge
Miller's
lands
was
his.
Buck
was
king—king
over
all
the
crawling,
flying
things
of
Judge
Miller's
lands,
humans
included.
His
father,
Elmo,
a
huge
St
Bernard,
had
been
the
judge's
inseparable
(不可分离的)companion.
And
when
he
died,
Buck
took
his
father's
place.
He
was
not
so
large—
he
weighed
only
sixty
kilograms—for
his
mother,
Shen,
had
been
a
Scottish
sheepdog.
He
had
had
a
good
life
and
he
was
proud
of
himself,
for
he
had
not
become
a
house
dog.
Hunting
and
other
outdoor
activities
had
hardened
his
muscles,
and
swimming
had
made
him
healthy.
This
was
Buck
in
the
autumn
of
1897,
when
the
discovery
of
gold
in
the
Klondike
brought
men
from
everywhere
to
the
frozen
north.
But
Buck
did
not
read
the
newspapers.
And
he
did
not
know
that
Manuel,
one
of
the
gardener's
helpers,
was
not
a
good
guy.
Manuel
gambled
(赌博)
and
wasted
the
little
money
he
had.
And
one
time
when
the
judge
was
away
on
business,
and
his
sons
were
busy
with
an
athletics
(竞技)
club,
Manuel
did
something
terrible.
No
one
saw
him
and
Buck
go
off
on
what
Buck
thought
was
a
walk.
No
one
saw
them
arrive
at
the

dangerously.
And

more.

Bertie
was
sad
for
weeks,
months
after
the
lion
died.
There
was
nothing
I
could
do
to
cheer
him
or
even
console(安慰)
him.
He
would
sit
for
hours
in
his
room,
or
go
off
on
long
walks
all
on
his
own.
He
seemed
so
shut
away
inside
himself,
so
distant.
Try
as
I
did,
I
could
not
reach
him.
Then
one
day
I
was
in
the
kitchen
here,
when
I
saw
him
hurrying
down
the
hill,
waving
his
stick
and
shouting
for
me.
“I’ve
got
it,”
he
cried,
as
he
came
in,
“I’ve
got
it
at
last.”
He
showed
me
the
end
of
his
stick.
It
was
white.
“Chalk!
It’s
chalk
underneath,
isn’t
it?”
“So?”
I
said.
“You
know
the
famous
White
Horse
on
the
hillside
at
Uffington,
the
one
they
carved
out
of
the
chalk
a
thousand
years
ago?
That
horse
never
died,
did
it?
It’s
still
alive,
isn’t
it?
Well,
that’s
what
we’re
going
to
do,
so
he
will
never
be
forgotten.
We’ll
carve
The
White
Prince
out
on
the
hillside—he’ll
be
there
forever,
and
he’ll
be
white
forever
too.
”
“It’ll
take
a
bit
of
time,
won’t
it?”
I
said.
“We’ve
got
plenty,
haven’t
we?”
he
replied,
with
the
same
smile
he
had
smiled
at
me
when
he
was
a
ten-year-old
boy
asking
me
if
he
could
come
back
and
mend
my
kite
for
me.
Every
spare
hour
we
had,
we
were
up
there
scraping
(刨土)
away
with
spades
(铲子),
and
we
had
buckets
(桶)
to
carry
away
the
earth.
It
was
hard,
back-breaking
work,
but
it
was
a
labour
of
love.
We
did
it,
Bertie
and
I,
we
did
it
together—paws,
claws,
tail,
mane,
until
he
was
complete
and
perfect
in
every
detail.
It
was
just
after
we’d
finished
that
the
butterflies
first
came.
We
noticed
that
when
the
sun
comes
out
after
the
rain
in
the
summer,
the
butterflies—Adonis
Blues,
they
are,
I
looked
them
up—come
out
to
drink
on
the
chalk
face.
Then
The
White
Prince
becomes
a
Butterfly
Lion,
and
breathes
again
like
a
living
creature.
So
now
you
know
how
Bertie’s
white
lion
became
The
White
Prince
and
how
The
White
Prince
became
our
Butterfly
Lion.

When
Oliver
arrived
in
this
hard
world,
it
was
very
doubtful
whether
he
would
live
beyond
the
first
three
minutes.
He
lay
on
a
hard
little
bed
and
struggled(斗争)
to
start
breathing.
Oliver
fought
his
first
battle
without
much
help
from
the
two
people
present
at
his
birth.
One
was
an
old
woman,
who
was
nearly
always
drunk,
and
the
other
was
a
busy
local
doctor,
who
was
not
paid
enough
to
be
very
interested
in
Oliver’s
survival.
However,
Oliver
managed
to
draw
his
first
breath,
and
then
announced
his
arrival
by
crying
loudly.
His
mother
raised
her
pale
young
face
and
whispered,
“Let
me
see
it.”
The
doctor
turned
away
from
the
fire,
where
he
had
been
warming
his
hands.
He
gave
her
the
child.
Lovingly,
she
kissed
the
baby
with
her
cold
white
lips,
then
stared
wildly
around
the
room,
fell
back
—
and
died.
The
doctor
began
to
put
on
his
coat.
“The
mother
was
a
good-looking
girl.
Where
did
she
come
from?”
“She
was
brought
here
last
night,”
replied
the
old
woman.
“She
was
found
lying
in
the
street.
Where
she
came
from,
or
what
her
name
was,
nobody
knows.”
The
doctor
lifted
the
girl’s
left
hand.
“The
old
story,”
he
shook
his
head.
“No
wedding
ring,
I
see.
Ah!
Good
night.”
And
so
Oliver
was
left
with
only
the
drunken
nurse.
He
was
then
sent
to
a
special
“baby
farm”
nearby.
There,
he
and
thirty
other
children
rolled(翻滚)
around
the
floor
all
day,
without
the
inconvenience(不便)
of
too
much
food
or
too
much
clothing.
Mrs.
Mann,
who
“looked
after”
them,
was
very
experienced.
She
knew
what
was
good
for
children.
She
also
knew
what
was
good
for
herself,
so
she
kept
for
her
own
use
the
money
that
she
was
given
for
the
children’s
food.
The
board(董事会)
responsible(负责的)
for
the
orphans(孤儿)
sometimes
checked
on
the
health
of
the
children,
but
they
always
sent
Mr.
Bumble,
a
kind
local
policeman,
to
announce
their
visit
the
day
before.
So
whenever
the
board
arrived,
of
course,
the
children
were
always
neat(整洁的)
and
clean.
On
Oliver’s
ninth
birthday,
Mr.
Bumble,
came
to
see
Mrs.
Mann.
Through
the
front
window
Mrs.
Mann
saw
him
at
the
gate,
and
turned
quickly
to
the
girl
who
worked
with
her.
“Quick!
Take
Oliver
and
those
others
upstairs
to
be
washed!”
she
said.
Then
she
ran
out
to
unlock
the
gate
which
was
always
kept
locked.

He
wanted
three
months
in
a
nice,
warm
prison,
with
food
and
good
friends.
This
was
how
he
usually
spent
his
winters.
And
now
it
was
time,
because,
at
night
on
his
seat
in
the
square,
three
newspapers
did
not
keep
out
the
cold.
So
Soapy
decided
to
go
to
prison,
and
at
once
began
to
try
his
first
plan.
It
was
usually
easy.
He
ate
dinner
in
an
expensive
restaurant.
Then
he
told
them
he
had
no
money
and
they
called
a
policeman.
Nice
and
easy,
with
no
trouble.
So
Soapy
left
his
seat,
and
walked
slowly
along
the
street.
Soon
he
came
to
a
bright
restaurant
on
Broadway.
Ah!
This
was
all
right.
He
just
had
to
get
to
a
table
in
the
restaurant
and
sat
down.
That
was
all,
because,
when
he
sat
down,
people
could
only
see
his
coat
and
his
shirt,
which
were
not
very
old.
Nobody
could
see
his
trousers.
He
thought
about
the
meal—not
too
expensive,
but
good.
But
when
Soapy
went
into
the
restaurant,
the
waiter
saw
Soapy’s
dirty
old
trousers
and
terrible
shoes.
Strong
hands
turned
him
round
and
helped
him
out
into
the
street
again.
So
now
he
had
to
think
of
something
different.
Soapy
walked
away
from
Broadway
and
soon
he
found
himself
on
Six
Avenue.
He
stopped
in
front
of
a
shop
window
and
looked
at
it.
It
was
nice
and
bright,
and
everybody
in
the
street
could
see
him.
Slowly
and
carefully
he
picked
up
a
stone
and
threw
it
at
the
window.
The
glass
broke
with
a
loud
noise.
Soapy
didn’t
move
and
smiled.
“I’ll
be
in
prison
now.”
he
thought.
The
policeman
came
up
to
Soapy,
“Who
did
that?”
he
asked.
“Perhaps
I
did,”
Soapy
replied.
But
the
policeman
knew
that
people
who
broke
windows
did
not
stop
to
talk
to
the
policeman.
They
ran
away.
And
just
then
the
policeman
saw
another
man,
who
was
running
to
catch
a
bus.
So
the
policeman
ran
after
him.
Soapy
watched
for
a
minute.
Then
he
walked
away.
No
luck
again!
He
began
to
feel
cross
(愤怒的).

When
Sara

the
schoolroom
the

wide,
interested
eyes.
By

every
pupil—from

to
Lottie
Legh,
who
was
just
four

heard
a
great
deal
about
her.
They
knew
very
certainly
that
she
was
Miss
Minchin's
show
pupil
and
was
considered
a
credit
to
the
school(为校争光的人).
One

two
of
them

Lavinia
had
managed
to
pass
Sara's
room
when
the
door
was
open,
and
had
seen
Mariette
opening
a
box
which
had
arrived
late
from
some
shops.
“It
was
full
of
beautiful
dresses,”
she
whispered
to
her
friend
Jessie.
“I
saw
her
shaking
them
out.
I
heard
Miss
Minchin
say
to
Miss

that
her

My
mamma

She

I
saw
it
when
she

“She
isn't
pretty
as
other
pretty
people
are,”
said
Jessie,
stealing
a
glance
across
the
room,
“but
she
makes
you
want
to
look
at
her
again.
She
has
very
long
eyelashes,
but
her
eyes
are
almost
green.”
Sara
was
sitting
quietly
in
her
seat,
waiting
to
be
told
what
to
do.
She
had
been
placed
near
Miss
Minchin's
desk.
She
was
not
shy
or
nervous
at
all
by
the
many
pairs
of
eyes
watching
her.
She
was
interested
and
looked
back
quietly
at
the
children
who
looked
at
her.
She
wondered
what
they
were
thinking
of,
and
if
they
liked
Miss
Minchin,
and
if
they
cared
for
their
lessons,
and
if
any
of
them
had
a
papa
at
all
like
her
own.
She
had
had
a
long
talk
with
Emily
about
her
papa
that
morning.
“He
is
on
the
sea
now,
Emily,”
she
had
said.
“We
must
be
very
great
friends
to
each
other
and
tell
each
other
things.
Emily,
look
at
me.
You
have
the
nicest
eyes
I
ever
saw—but
I
wish
you
could
speak.”
She
was
a
child
full
of
imagination,
and
one
of
her
thoughts
was
that
making
herself
believe
that
Emily
was
alive
and
really
heard
and
understood.

He
was
the
only
gray
cub(狼崽)
of
the
she-wolf.
The
other
cubs
had
red
in
their
hair.
He
was
gray
like
his
father.
He
was
the
strongest
cub.
He
showed
more
anger
than
his
brothers
and
sisters.
He
made
more
noises.
He
was
a
carnivorous
animal.
He
came
of
a
breed
of
meat-killers
and
meat-eaters.
His
father
and
mother
lived
wholly
upon
meat.
In
his
first
month
of
life,
he
lived
on
mother’s
milk,
which
was
transformed
directly
from
meat.
And
now,
at
a
month
old,
when
his
eyes
had
been
open
for
but
a
week,
he
was
beginning
himself
to
eat
meat.
There
came
a
time
when
there
was
no
meat.
For
many
days
the
cubs
did
not
eat.
They
were
too
weak
and
tired
to
play.
One-Eye,
the
cub’s
father,
was
killed
in
the
fight
over
food.
Even
the
she-wolf
left
the
cave
to
find
meat,
but
there
was
nothing.
One
by
one,
the
cubs
died.
Only
the
she-wolf
and
the
gray
cub
were
left.
One
day
the
gray
cub
ran
out
of
the
cave
to
hunt
for
his
own
food.
He
met
a
weasel(黄鼠狼)of
his
size.
The
rat-like
animal
ran
at
him
and
bit
his
throat.
He
was
nearly
dead
when
the
she-wolf
arrived
just
in
time
to
kill
and
eat
it.
The
gray
cub
was
not
good
at
hunting
yet,
and
still
needed
food
from
his
mother.
One
day,
the
she-wolf
brought
him
a
lynx(猞猁)kitten.
While
eating,
he
heard
great
noise.
The
kitten’s
mother
had
followed
the
she-wolf
here.
The
she-wolf
and
the
she-lynx
started
to
fight,
and
they
would
fight
to
the
death.
__________
The
bite
was
enough
to
give
the
she-wolf
the
chance
she
needed.
The
lynx
was
dead,
but
the
she-wolf
was
badly
hurt.
For
a
week,
she
did
not
move.
The
gray
cub
had
to
find
food
for
both
of
them.
Without
his
mother
to
take
care
of
him,
he
learnt
what
life
was
about.
Without
meat
there
was
no
life.
Animals
had
to
eat
other
animals
to
survive.
The
law
was:
EAT
OR
BE
EATEN.
