B
A
few
weeks
ago,
I
called
an
Uber
to
take
me
to
the
Boston
airport
for
a
flight
home
for
the
holidays.
As
I
slid
into
the
back
seat
of
the
car,
the
warm
intonations(语调)
of
the
driver’s
accent
washed
over
me
in
a
familiar
way.
I
learned
that
he
was
a
recent
West
African
immigrant
with
a
few
young
children,
working
hard
to
provide
for
his
family.
I
could
relate:
I
am
the
daughter
of
two
Ethiopian
immigrants
who
made
their
share
of
sacrifices
to
ensure
my
success.
I
told
him
I
was
on
a
college
break
and
headed
home
to
visit
my
parents.
That’s
how
he
found
out
I
go
to
Harvard.
An
approving
eye
glinted
at
me
in
the
rearview
window,
and
quickly,
we
crossed
the
boundaries
of
rider
and
driver.
I
became
his
daughter,
all
grown
up
—
the
product
of
his
sacrifice.
And
then
came
the
fateful
question:
“What
do
you
study?”
I
answered
“history
and
literature”
and
the
pride
in
his
voice
faded,
as
I
knew
it
might.
I
didn’t
even
get
to
add
“and
African-American
studies”
before
he
cut
in,
his
voice
thick
with
disappointment,
“All
that
work
to
get
into
Harvard,
and
you
study
history?”
Here
I
was,
his
daughter,
squandering
the
biggest
opportunity
of
her
life.
He
went
on
to
deliver
the
age-old
lecture
that
all
immigrant
kids
know.
We
are
to
become
doctors
(or
lawyers,
if
our
parents
are
being
generous)
—
to
make
money
and
send
money
back
home.
The
unspoken
demand,
made
across
generations,
which
my
Uber
driver
laid
out
plainly,
is
simple:
Fulfill
your
role
in
the
narrative(故事)
of
upward
mobility
so
your
children
can
do
the
same.
I
used
to
feel
anxious
and
backed
into
a
corner
by
the
questioning,
but
now
as
a
junior
in
college,
I’m
grateful
for
their
support
more
than
anything.
This
holiday
season,
I’ve
promised
myself
I
won’t
huff
and
get
annoyed
at
their
inquiries.
I
won’t
defensively
respond
with
“but
I
plan
to
go
to
law
school!”
when
I
get
unrequested
advice.
I’ll
just
smile
and
nod,
and
enjoy
the
warmth
of
the
occasion.

They
have

D.
They
are
very
smart
in
general.
27.

questioning?
A.
Getting
upset.

D.
Appreciating
his

C
Being
stuck
behind
crowds
of
slow
walkers
when
you’re
in
a
hurry
is
one
of
the
most
annoying
things.
But
now,
Lakeside
Shopping
Centre
in
Essex,
one
of
the
UK’s
largest
shopping
malls,
has
introduced
its
very
own
fast
lane(通道)
for
shoppers
in
a
hurry,
aiming
to
help
impatient
shoppers
avoid
slow
walkers
and
the
anger
that
goes
with
them.
The
Lakeside
Shopping
Center
in
Essex
has
introduced
a
720-foot
“fast
lane”
reserved
for
fast
walkers
only,
just
in
time
for
the
Christmas
rush.
The
center’s
management
team
said:
“the
lane
will
help
the
shoppers
who
know
where
they
want
to
go
quickly
and
don’t
want
to
get
caught
in
behind
unhurried
shoppers
at
the
busiest
time
of
the
year.”
The
fast
lane
was
introduced
after
a
MasterCard
survey
found
that
80
percent
of
consumers
found
slow
walkers
their
biggest
annoyance
while
shopping.
The
research
also
found
that
the
average
walking
speed
slowed
down
by
21
percent
during
the
Christmas
shopping
period,
as
most
shoppers
spent
more
time
window
shopping
during
this
period.
Gary
Mortimer,
an
expert
from
the
Queensland
University
of
Technology,
said
he
wasn’t
surprised
by
the
promotion
about
the
launch
of
the
fast
lane,
and
thought
the
concept
would
appeal
to
shoppers
all
over
the
world.
“Crowded
parking
lots
and
busy
shopping
centers
tend
to
be
two
of
the
biggest
complaints
of
shoppers
over
the
festive
season,”
he
said.
“I
think
the
fast
lanes
are
a
new
approach.
However,
I
suspect
it
will
be
a
bit
like
fast
lanes
on
the
highway,
so
it
might
end
up
being
more
trouble
than
its
worth.”
The
MasterCard
survey
also
identified
the
four
most
common
types
of
shoppers.
They
include
“Skaters”-the
31
percent
of
shoppers
who
try
and
make
their
way
through
crowds
politely,
“Dodgers”-the
51
percent
of
customers
who
move
down
the
paths
to
avoid
slow
walkers,
“Bulldozers”-the
11
percent
who
push
their
way
through
crowds,
and
“Tutters”-the
l5
percent
who
express
their
frustrations
to
slow
walkers.
28.
The
fast
lane
is
intended
for
the
shoppers
who
.
A.
can’t
move
quickly
because
of
physical
disabilities
B.
buy
things
on
their
shopping
lists
quickly
C.
take
their
time
to
do
window
shopping
D.
want
to
leave
the
mall
quickly
29.
What
is
Gary
Mortimer’s
attitude
to
the
fast
lane?
A.
Supportive.
B.
Indifferent.
C.
Critical.
D.
Objective.
30.
Who
patiently
moves
behind
a
slow
crowd?
A.
Skaters.
B.
Dodgers.
C.
Bulldozers.
D.
Tutters.
31.
What
is
the
main
idea
of
this
passage?
A.
Shopping
can
be
annoying
sometimes.
B.
How
to
avoid
“slow
walkers”
when
shopping.
C.
The
problems
that
shopping
centers
face
during
busy
holidays.
D.
The
shopping
mall
creates
the
fast
lane
to
avoid
“slow
walkers”.

Studying
the
DNA
of
300
mice
has
flagged
up
genes
which
have
been
linked
to
hereditary(遗传的)
sight
loss
for
the
first
time.
Researchers
say
because
mice’s
genes
are
so
similar
to
humans’,
their
findings
could
lead
to
the
treatment
of
more
genetic
diseases.
Scientists
at
the
University
of
California,
Davis
studied
information
from
a
data
bank
of
mice’s
genetic
material.
They
found
347
genes
linked
to
eye
problems,
with
just
86
of
them
having
been
studied
in
the
past.
Only
around
50
to
75
percent
of
hereditary
eye
diseases
in
human
can
be
explained
with
present
science.
The
researchers
believe
these
hundreds
of
new
genes
found
in
mice
could
be
a
key
to
explaining—and
therefore
being
able
to
treat
the
other
25-50
percent.
“This
is
extremely
valuable
for
people
with
hereditary
eye
disease,”
said
researcher
Professor
Ala
Moshiri.
“All
researchers
are
going
to
start
using
these
data.
In
the
past,
we
knew
the
problem
was
there
but
we
didn’t
know
where
to
look.
Now
eye
centers
can
call
back
patients
and
screen
them
for
these
new
genes.
We
expected
that
more
and
more
of
these
genetic
diseases
will
be
treatable.”
Also,
the
fact
is
that
more
than
60
percent
of
eye
problems
at
birth
are
ones
resulting
from
the
baby’s
parents!
Thanks
to
data
from
the
International
Mouse
Phenotyping
Consortium
(IMPC),
which
is
trying
to
work
out
what
every
single
gene
in
a
mouse
is
responsible
for,
with
the
aim
of
translating
it
to
humans,
scientists
are
moving
closer
to
figuring
out
all
genetic
causes
of
blindness.
To
do
this,
scientists
separate
a
single
gene
from
other
ones
at
a
time
and
then
observe
what
effect
it
has
on
the
mouse
for
a
long
time.
This
has
so
far
been
done
more
than
7,000
times
and
has
achieved
great
success.
Researchers
are
now
working
alongside
eye
care
centers
in
Texas
and
Iowa
in
order
to
compare
the
mice’s
genes
to
those
of
patients.
32.
How
many
hereditary-sight-loss-related
genes
were
newly
found?
A.
86.
B.
261.
C.
300.
D.
347.
33.
Why
is
the
percentage
of
genetic
eye
problems
mentioned
in
paragraph
3?
A.
To
show
the
significance
of
studying
mice’s
genes.
B.
To
prove
mice’s
genes
are
similar
to
humans’.
C.
To
warn
the
high
risk
level
of
suffering
them.
D.
To
explain
how
common
they
are
among
people.
34.
What
should
scientists
do
first
to
unlock
secrets
of
genetic
blindness?
A.
Compare
humans’
genes
with
mice’s.
B.
Recognize
each
gene’s
role
of
humans.
C.
Set
apart
a
gene
of
a
mouse
each
time.
D.
Figure
out
each
gene’s
function
of
a
mouse.

to
be
times
when
the
negative
emotions
are
just
temporary.
37.
However,
if
it
happens
on
a
frequent
basis,
your
mind
is
trying
to
tell
you
something
and
you
need
to
handle
it.
●38.
Once
you
recognize
the
negative
emotion
you
are
feeling,
you
need
to
understand
just
what
is
behind
it.
The
trouble
is
that
often
the
cause
of
your
bad
feelings
might
be
hard
to
see.
Is
it
your
home
life,
work,
friends,
unrealized
dreams
or
various
other
frustrations?
Take
your
time
figuring
it
out
and
get
to
the
root
of
what
is
causing
the
negative
emotion.
●
Take
correct
action.
In
some
cases,
it
might
be
easy.
If
someone
consistently
makes
you
angry,
you
can
just
avoid
them.
In
many
other
cases,
you
might
need
to
take
even
bolder(大胆的)
action.
39.
Hopefully
you
have
a
different
opinion
on
negative
emotions
now.
They
are
not
things
designed
to
only
make
your
life
miserable.
40.
A.
Understand
the
causes.
B.
Action
is
the
real
cause
of
pain.
C.
Acknowledge
your
true
feelings.
D.
They
are
to
be
avoided
at
all
costs.
E.
What
they
really
are
is
a
signal
for
change.
F.
Everyone
feels
a
little
down
every
once
in
a
while.
G.
An
example
of
that
would
be
ending
a
failing
marriage
or
quitting
your
job.

same

Monday
at
work.(1)

M:

Mom

Get

I'd

to

you

cars
on
Thanksgiving.(3)
(Text
4)
M:
Did
you
have
a
good
weekend,
Anna?
W:Yes,
it
was
fantastic.
We
visited
my
uncle’
s
farm.
He
used
to
run
a
small
hotel,
but
he
recently
decided
to
raise
sheep
instead.

M:
Sheep?
I
would
think
that
would
be
hard
with
such
a
low

of
rain.

5)
W:
Mark,
I
remember
you
saying
that
small
spaces
made
you
feel
uncomfortable,
Should
we
take
the
stairs
instead?(5)
M:
No.
I
should
be
OK.
I
live
on
the
four-teenth
floor
in
my

so
I'm

W:
That
sounds
interesting.
So,
you'd
like
to

all
these
out?

Yes,
for
a

at

W:
No

Could
you

M:
I'm
sorry.
I
don't

M:
I’m

I'm

through
all
these
papers.
Do
you
need
it
right
now?
W:
I
don't,
but
Mr.
Steadman
will
be
asking
about
it
soon.
You
know
he
always
starts
to
get
anxious
about
the
weekly
report
about
this
time
of
the
day.
M:
But
it's
only
Thursday
morning.
We
have
a
day
and
a
half
left
before
he
needs
it.
(9)
And
what
if
something
big
happens
today?
W:
I
know.
The
report
should
include
everything
from
the
week.
But
he
just
likes
to
know
that
we're
not
finishing
it
off
at
the
last
minute.
M:
When
have
I
ever
done
that?
W:
Of
course
you
never
would,
but
last
month,
we
had
a
lot
of
trouble
getting
the
reports
in
on
time.
M:
Well,
good
thing
he
hired
me!
(Text

M:
I
want
to
book
a
bus
tour
for
the
middle
of
June.
(10)
W:
Well.
we
have
red
and
blue
routes.
The
main
attractions
on
the
red
route
are
the
White
House.
the
Lincoln
Memorial,
and
the
Smithsonian
Museum.
(I1)
M:How
do
I
book
the
tickets?
W:
Well,
you
could
do
that
by
phone
with
one
of
our
operators.
Or
you
can
book
through
our
website.
Of
course,
you
could
just
show
up
and
buy
a
ticket
the
day
you
want
to
take
the
tour.
M:
All
right.
I'll
just
book
it
online
once
I
know
our
travel
dates.(12)
W:
OK.
Well,
just
remember
that
it
can
get
very
busy
over
the
three
months
from
June
to
August,
so
it's
probably
best
to
book
at
least
a
week
before
you
come.
But
you
still
have
about
six
weeks,
so
you
have
plenty
of
time
to
think
about
it.
M:
OK,
thanks.
You've
been
a
great
help.
(Text
9)
M:
I
have
noticed
that
a
lot
of
people
around
here
are
very
healthy
and
hard-working.
I
thought
all
Americans
just
ate
hamburgers
and
pizza
and
sat
in
front
of
the
TV
all
day
long.(13)
W:
Ha-ha.
Well,
our
culture
and
society
has
become
a
lot
more
health-conscious
than
it
was
ten
years
ago.
M:
I
have
heard
a
lot
of
people
talking
about
organic
foods,
and
even
growing
their
own
vegetables!(14)
W:
Yes,
things
are
different
now.(14)
I
think
most
people
are
just
more
aware
than
before,
whether
it
is
about
themselves
or
the
world.
There
is
so
much
information
out
there.
People
are
less
ignorant
than
they
were
before.
(15)
M:
Mo
attention
has
been
drawn
toward
protecting
the
environment.
W:I
agree.
But
there
are
also
many
problems
that
we
still
need
to
overcome.
Let's
not
get
into
that.
M:
Focus
on
the
positive,
right?
So,
what
do
you
do
to
play
your
part
in
a
healthy
society?
W:
I
try
to
avoid
driving
my
car
as
much
as
possible.(16)
M:
Good
for
you.
I
wish
more
people
had
the
same
attitude
as
you.

In
the
past
two
months,
there
have
been
several
shark
attacks
at
Atlantic
Beach
and
Outer
Banks
Beach
in
North
Carolina(17)
For
this
reason,
we
have
decided
to
close
down
both
beaches
until
further
notice.(20)
These
sharks
are
great
white
sharks
and
extremely
dangerous.
We
are
asking
but
not
requiring
-owners
of
small
boats
and
fishermen
to
avoid
activities
in
these
areas.
This
month,
a
study
from
the
Florida
Museum
of
Natural
History
showed
that
the
rise
in
shark
attacks
was
caused
by
many
factors,
some
of
which
can
be
avoided.
Sharks
are
said
to
follow
warm
ocean
currents
from
the
Gulf
of
Mexico.
Graham
Schwartz.

to
limit
splashing
in
the
water,
and
to
avoid
wearing
shiny
material
that

(18)(19)
Although
shark

are
still
extremely
rare,
and
are
mostly
a
case
of
being
in

at
the
wrong

we
take
this
problem
very
seriously
at
the

26.
推理判断题。根据文章倒数第二段“Fulfill
your

its
worth.”我认为快车道是一种新颖的方法。但是,我怀疑它会有点像高速公路上的快车道,所以它可能最终比设计初衷更麻烦。可见他对于fast
lane的评价是客观的,既说出它的优点也指出了它可能存在的问题,所以答案选D。
30.

include
‘Skaters’—the
31
percent

help
impatient
shoppers
avoid
slow
walkers—and
the
rage

problems,
with
just
86
of
them
having
been
studied
in
the
past.”他们发现347个基因与眼睛问题有关,其中只有86个基因在过去被研究过。即新发现与遗传性失明相关的基因有:347-86=261个,故选B。
33.
细节理解题。第三段最后一句“The
researchers
believe
these
hundreds

could
be
a
key
to
explaining—and
therefore
being

this,
scientists
separate
a
single
gene
from
other
ones
at
a
time
and
then
observe
what
effect

for
a
long
time.”科学家们一次将一个基因从其他基因中分离出来,然后观察它在很长一段时间内对老鼠有什么影响。即为了解开遗传性失明的秘密,科学家首先应该每次从老鼠身上分离出一个基因。故选C。
35.
主旨大意题。根据文章主要内容:科学家在小白鼠身上发现的数百种新基因可能是解释人类遗传性眼部疾病的关键。故选B选项。[]
