(1)But one year ago ,she couldn’t do it at all .但是在一年前，她根本不会做。
①ago意为“（某段时间）以前，应放在表示一段时间的短语之后。如：half an hour ago 半小时前。
②could 是can的过去式，其否定式是couldn’t .如：Han Mei could swim when he was eight .韩梅八岁的时候就会游泳了。I couldn’t ride a bike when I was ten .我十岁时不会骑自行车。
[注意] 问句中当表示请求许可时，用could 比can 更委婉，更客气。此时could 没有过去的意思，只是使语气更加委婉。而回答时，仍用can 回答。如：—Could I ask you some questions —Of course you can .我能问你一些问题吗？当然能。
（2）But when she was five ,she could dance just a little .但是当她五岁时 ，她仅会跳一点舞。
When意为“当……时候“，此处为连接副词，引导时间状语从句，放主句前时，用逗号语主句分开；放在主句后时，不用逗号与主句隔开。如：She could dance just a little when she was five .
