国际奥比斯组织 (Project Orbis -- ORBIS) 是一个致力于为世界各国盲人和眼疾患者恢复光明的国际性慈善机构,它的宗旨是“使全球失明者重见光明”。
这个组织的国际奥比斯眼科飞行医院是世界第一所飞机眼科医院。该院于1982年3月在美国休思敦正式建立,它是由一架DC—8型飞机改装而成,内部设有预检室、检查室、微型手术室、护理室等手术设备,既可施行手术又可从事示范教学、并通过双向通讯设备,直接与示范医生进行问答。奥比斯组织总部设在纽约。在休斯敦、伦敦、加拿大和香港设有办事处,并配备了从美国及其他地区选出的一批拥有高级技术的医生、护士、工程师、机师、影视制作人员等为随机人员。
自1982年成立以来,来自29个国家的600多位世界一流的眼科专家,先后访问了四大洲70多个国家和地区,使2万名眼疾患者在专机上进行手术治疗,使他们重见光明,并有3万多名各国眼科医生、护士参与了它的训练计划,使之成为推行防盲、治盲的骨干。
国际奥比斯组织(ORBIS)是一个中立的、非盈利的国际人道主义发展组织。迄今为止,已环绕地球四次,在八十余个国家完成了超过500项防盲治盲医疗活动,将最新的防盲技术传授给五万多名眼科医生和护士。
此部分以采访的形式向学生介绍了奥比斯医生的工作。学生能进一步学习采访记录这一文体,同时也能了解慈善组织奥比斯的工作。

一、英语中的语态
⒈英语动词有两种语态:主动语态和被动语态。
主动语态表示主语是动作的执行者,被动语态表示主语是动作的承受者。
如:Many people speak English. (主动) →English is spoken by many people. (被动)
⒉汉语中常用“被”、“给”、“由”、“受”等词用来表示被动,而英语用“助动词be+及物动词的过去分词构成”,其中助动词be有人称、数和时态的变化。
二、被动语态的用法
⒈当句子的主语是动作的执行者时,谓语的形式是主动语态。
当句子的主语是动作的承受者时,谓语要用被动语态。被动语态由助动词be+过去分词构成,时态通过动词be表现出来。
⒉被动语态的基本用法
⑴不知道或没有必要说明动作的执行者是谁。
①Some windows were broken last night.
②This book was published in 2005.
=This book came out in 2005. come out 是Vi短语,不能用于被动语态。
注意:不及物动词或不及物动词短语无被动语态,如:appear, happen, take place等。
⑵只强调动作的承受者,而不强调动作的执行者。
①Educational CD-ROMs are sold in many countries.
②Rice was first grown in China.
③English is learned all over the world.

三、被动语态的基本结构
⒈“动作的承受者+be+过去分词+其他+by+动作的执行者”。
⒉主动语态变为被动语态的步骤:
将主动语态的宾语变为被动语态的主语,
将主动谓语变为被动谓语(be+过去分词),
将主动语态的主语变为by短语(在被动句中用作状语
按照上述句式改写:承受者 +be+过去分词+其他+by+执行者
⒊常用的被动语态结构

一般将来时 will/shall be+p.p.
am/is/are going to be+p.p.

注意:
情态动词的被动语态结构为:情态动词+be+过去分词
其时态及句型的变化仅由情态动词完成,"be+过去分词"部分不变。如:
Tables can be made of stone.桌子可由石头制造。
Can tables be made of stone? 桌子能用石头制造吗?(疑问句)
⒋主动改为被动语态的例子:主动语态基本结构为主、谓、宾。
⑴His brother washes dishes every day. → Dishes are washed every day by his brother.

⒈主谓+双宾:这类短语含有介词to或for。如:give, send, show, buy, make…

主动:Amy gave me some nice stickers.
=Amy gave some nice stickers to me.
被动:I was given some nice stickers by Amy.
或Some nice stickers were given to me by Amy.
⑵主动:A fairy gave the princess a magic wand.
=A fairy gave a magic wand to Princess Laura.
被动:The princess was given a magic wand by a fairy.
或A magic wand was given to the princess.
→含有双宾语的动词短语变为被动语态的规则:
可以把任何一个宾语作为被动语态的主语;
如果把直接宾语(即物体)作为主语,动词和直接宾语之间要添加相应的介词to或for。主动语态中无论使用give sb sth 还是give sth to sb,一律按照上述句子改写,即:
give sb sth 或give sth to sb → sb be given sth或sth be given to sb,这类含有介词to或for的短语见下表:

使役动词、感官动词变为被动语态时,原来省略的to一定要加上。
常见短语:
make sb do sth →sb be made to do sth (主动语态不含to,被动语态必须带to)
hear sb do sth →sb be heard to do sth
see sb do sth →sb be seen to do sth
have sb do sth →sb be had to do sth
*特殊:let sb do sth →sb be let do sth (主动语态和被动语态都不含to)
e.g. He made the workers work 12 hours a day. → The workers were made to work 12 hours a day.

※ 主动形式表示被动意义:
有些不及物动词(其主语大都指物)的主动语态可以表示被动意义。
⒈某些表示感觉或变化的连系动词。这些动词有feel,look, taste, smell, sound, prove, turn, get等。
①The coffee smells delicious.
②The story proved quite false.
⒉某些可与well, easily, quickl,smoothly等副词连用的不及物动词catch, close, lock, open, read, sell, wash, wear, write等。
①This kind of bikes sells well.
②This kind of rice cooks more quickly than that kind.
③The cloth washes easily. 这种布容易洗。
④The pen writes fluently. 这支笔写起来流利。
3.动名词在be worth doing句型中的主动形式表示被动含义。
①His novels are so well worth reading that I want one.
②These stamps are worth collecting.
4.动名词在need, want, require等动词后,主动形式表示被动含义。need doing=need to be done ①The problem requires dealing with immediately.
②Her bike needed repairing.
③The flowers want watering.

5.动词不定式的主动形式在too…to…句型中表示被动含义。
The box is too heavy to carry.

6.有些形容词后的动词不定式有被动含义。这些形容词有easy, difficult, heavy, nice, funny, good, pleasant, important, useful, dangerous等。

Adopting Animals(领养动物)
Would you like to adopt an animal? Although this sounds very unusual, some children have done just this. The Natural Zoo has given people the chance to adopt animals by paying for all of its food for one year. One of the animals that needed parents was a young tiger named Brocky. The people at the zoo said that it would cost about $900 a year for the food for Brocky.
Not many boys and girls have $900 to spend. That is why several hundred children and grown-ups each have sent a little money to the zoo to help pay for Brocky’s food. Some children sent in only a quarter because that was all the money they had. Other children sent in more money than that.
Since so many people sent money to the zoo to help pay for Brocky’s food, he now will be able to eat as much as he wants. Brocky surely must be a happy tiger to know that he has so many adopted parents. Many children must also be happy to know that they have helped to feed him. 1.在写作前,让学生看课本第105页C部分的图画,梳理故事的条理:

Mandeep used to get up at 5a.m.every morning. She worked on the farm all day. Planting rice in the hot sun.Her family was very poor ,so Mandeep did not go to school and she was unable to read and write.
