"Make-A-Wish" is one of the world's most well-known charities( 慈善机构). It makes wishes come true for children who have serious illnesses. It gives them hope and joy and helps them forget about their health problems and have fun.
It started in 1980 in Phoenix, Arizona. Christopher was a 7-year-old boy who was very sick. He always dreamed of becoming a police officer. I wish to meet. Children sometimes want to meet their favourite actors, singers or players.
I wish to be. Some children wish to become actors, singers or police officers.
I wish to have. They often want to have a computer, a game, a bike or many other things.

Education is for everyone
In recent years, Chinese governments at all levels have put great efforts ( 努力) into improving education in underdeveloped areas. Let's take a look at how students across the country have benefited(得益于) from this.
Bringing better teaching resources(资源)
In order to bring better English education resources to rural areas, "dual-teacher classes" ( 双师课堂) were set up by China Daily. The foreign teachers have a good sense of humour and the classes are full of laughter. They make the students more interested in English.
The government has introduced livestreaming (直播) classes and online video courses to many rural (农村的) schools so that rural students can share education resources with urban(城市的) peers (同龄人). One successful case is in Chengdu. Livestreaming courses from Chengdu No. 7 High School have helped thousands of students from 248 rural schools enter college since 2016, China Daily reported.
Financial aid ( 经济援助)
In 2015, He Jiao from a remote (偏远的) county in Guizhou was admitted (招收) to Tsinghua University, but her poor family worried abouft the tuition fees (学费). Thanks to a project started by the local government, He Jiao received a scholarship, which allowed her to attend her dream university.
The Chinese government has set up different financial aid projects for students. College students can apply for scholarships or tuition fee exemptions (免除). In primary and middle schools, students don't need to pay for textbooks or tuition fees. Those from poor families can also receive living allowances (补贴).
Improving school facilities (设备)
In 2009, Yimin Primary School in Ewenki Autonomous Banner had only eight students. There was just one outdated computer, and the heating came from coal
boilers. Now, with the government's efforts, school facilities in the area are much better than before.
The Chinese government invested (投资) 542.6 billion yuan to build and renovate (翻新) school buildings from 2013 to 2018. More than 90 percent of primary and secondary schools across the country now have access (通道) to the Internet, China Daily reported.

I am Wu Li. I am a college student from Beijing. Last summer, I worked as a volunteer teacher in a primary school. It's in a mountain village in Gansu in northwestern China. I taught students English in Grade 4. With my help, the students' English was greatly improved. After school, I often told my students about the city life. It opened up a whole new world to them.
I think it's very meaningful to be a volunteer teacher because I can learn more about China's education and help improve local people's lives as well.
I hope to help more children in poor areas. I will be a teacher in western China after I finish college.
