Dear
editor,
In
our
school
students
are
constantly
complaining
about
bad
food
in
the
dining
room.
It
serves
with
many
dishes
from
Cantonese
to
Sichuan
hotpot,
so
the
quality
isn’t
good.
Some
students
said
they
had
found
stones
or
died
pests
in
their
food.
The
popular
joke
is
that
you
are
really
luck
if
you
find
nothing
strange
or
smelly
in
the
food.
As
the
majority
of
student
have
no
choice
but
eat
in
the
dining
room,
money
can
still
be
made
if
the
dining
room
makes
a
effort
to
improve
the
quality
of
food.
The
dining
room
should
pay
attention
to
providing
better
services
and
tasted
food.
It
is
high
time
that
the
dining
room
should
change
their
idea
of
management.
We
were
looking
forward
to
the
day.

(Text1)
W:
I
wonder
what’s
happened.?It’s
already
9:30.
M:
That’s
strange!
The
play?should
have?started?twenty
minutes
ago
according
to
the
timetable.
(Text2)
M:?We
got
off
the
bus
too
early.
We
have
to
wait
for
the
next
bus,
or
take
a
taxi.
W:
Well,
the
bus
is
better.
(Text3)
W:
Can
we
discuss
the
details
of
the
lecture
this
afternoon?
M:
I
can’t
make
it
today.
I’ll
fly
to
New
York
on
business.
(Text4)
M:
I
really
believe
that
men
are
better
drivers
than
women

it’s
a
fact!
W:
That’s
absolute
rubbish!
Men
are
the
ones
who
drive
too
fast
and
cause
all
the
accidents.
Text5
W:
I
wonder
whether
it
will
be
easy
to
get
along
with
our
new
boss.
M:
We
have
to
know
his
hobby,
his
character,
and
so
on.
(Text
6)
M:
Hello.
I
just
checked
into
my
room,
904.
It
smells
like
smoke
in
here.
I
requested
a
non-smoking
room.
W:
I’m
so
sorry.
It
must
have
been
a
typing
mistake.
M:
Can
anything
be
done
about
that?
W:
Of
course,
sir.
I’ll
send
someone
up
right
away
to
collect
your
bags
and
we’ll
put
you
to
another
floor.
(Text
7)
W:
Mark,
come
here.
Do
you
see
that
customer?
I
think
she
might
be
trying
to
steal
some
food.
M:
Are
you
sure?
We
don’t
want
to
accuse
a
customer
of
something
they
aren’t
actually
doing.
W:
Just
watch
what
she
is
doing
for
a
while.
If
you
see
anything
strange,
let
me
know
and
I’ll
call
the
security
guards.
M:
All
right.
Hand
me
those
boxes.
I’ll
pretend?I’m
arranging
the
shelves.
(Text

M:
Lucy,
what
a
nice
surprise!
I
didn’t
expect
to
see
you
here.
W:
Hi,
Gabriel.
Actually?I?didn’t
think?I?would
be
able
to
come
here,
but
my
business
trip
has
been
canceled.
I’m
so
happy
that?I?can
make
it
to
our
ten-year
reunion.
Many
things
have
changed.
M:
Can
you
believe
it’s
been
ten
years
since
we
last
saw
each
other?
Remember
the
time
you
and?I?did
a
presentation
together
and
made
a
lot
of
mistakes?
But
Professor
Williams
gave
us
A
plus
anyway.
W:
How
can?I?forget!
That’s
one
of
my
best
memories
of
my
four
university
years.
(Text

W:
Hello,
Fred.?I’ve
just
received
a
letter
from
Mrs.
Lewis
here.
She
isn’t
happy
and?I?need
to
reply
as
soon
as
possible.
M:
Really?
What’s
the
problem?
W:
Well,
she’s
referring
to
a
computer
course
on
the
25th
of
April.
Two
people
from
her
company
were
on?the?course.
M:
I
think
you
mean
on
the
26th
actually.
The
25th
was
a
Sunday.
W:
OK.?Anyway,
you
know
about
it?
M:
Well,?I?wasn’t
here.
I
was
supposed
to
be
but
I
had
to
take
the
day
off
because
my
son
was
sick.
And
I
got
a
replacement
trainer.
The
trainer
was
a
little
late
that
day.
But
we
added
the
lost
time
on
to
the
end
of
class.
Is
that
what
they’re
not?satisfied?about?
W:
Well,
that’s
one
thing.?I?didn’t
know
you
added
the
time
back
on.
And
it’s
also
because
of
a
room
change.
M:
Well,?I?had
told
them
the
course
was
full
and
we
could
only
take
one
of
their
people,
but
their
company
still
sent
two.
So
rather
than
sending
one
of
them
home
we
were
able
to
switch
training
rooms
and
deal
with
it.
W:
So
that
sounds
like
their
fault.
OK.
That’s
all?I?need
to
know.
I’m
sure?I?can
sort
it
out.

W:
Good
afternoon.
In
this
class
we’re
talking
about
Coober
Pedy,
the
Australian
desert
town.
It
lies
860
kilometres
north
of
Adelaide
and
690
south
of
Alice
Springs.
The
extreme
climate
and
lack
of
water
made
it
a
highly
unlikely
place
for
humans
to
live,
but
that
all
started
to
change
in
1915
with
the
discovery
of
the
precious
stones.
Settlements
were?founded
following
the
First
World
War,
when
Australian
soldiers
returning
from
the
battlefields
of
France
brought
with
them
the
techniques
of
living
below
ground.
During
the?period?of
the
1920s
and
30s,
the
town
was
so
poor
that
many
explorers
left.
But
the
town
became
active
again
in
the
late
1940s.
Some
people
from
Europe
arrived
in
large
numbers
after
the
Second
World
War.
It
must
be
remembered
how
tough
conditions
were.
Daytime
summer
temperatures
reached
well
over
50
degrees
Centigrade,
and
winter
nights
were
bitterly
cold.
So
more
and
more
people
began
living
in
underground
houses,
where
the
temperature
remains
at
a
comfortable
25
degrees
all
year
round.
As
years
go?by,
the
homes
have
become
bigger.
There
are
now
also
some
hotels
for
tourists.
They
come
from
all
over
the
world
just
to
see
this
unusual
town.
Coober
Pedy
is
probably
best
known
for
its
unique
style
of
underground
living.树德中学高2020级高一下期5月阶段性测试英语试题

You
are
not
going
to
meet
many
people
with
the
surname
“Go-to-bed”.
The
first
recorded
person
to
have
this
surname
was
John
Gotobedde
of
Cambridge
in
1269.
Professor
Reaney,
an
authority
on
English
surnames,
explains
the
surname
originated
from
people
who
had
a
bed,
which
was
rare
back
in
the
12th
century.
People
were
proud
that
they
could
afford
to
have
a
bed,
thus
adding
it
to
their
name.
Strange
but
true!
Onions
This
surname,
which
was
first
popular
in
France
and
Ireland
before
coming
over
to
the
UK,
dates
back
to
l279
and
identified(显示)a
person’s
job.
He
was
either
a
seller
or
a
grower
of
the
vegetable.
Nutter
Nutter
means
a
crazy
or
silly
person
in
spoken
English.
You
wouldn’t
usually
call
yourself
a
nutter,
but
it’s
genuinely
a
surname
that
originates
from
Yorkshire
and
Lancashire.
It’s
a
variation
of
the
old
English
surnames
“Notere”,
which
means
a
clerk,
and
“Nothard”,
which
means
a
person
that
keeps
oxen.
Hardmeat
You
might
have
guessed
that
“Hardmeat”
must
have
something
to
do
with
a
family
of
butchers.
In
fact,
it
might
just
have
been
a
misspelling
of
the
village
that
the
name
came
from,
which
was
“Hardmead”
in
England.
Wish
they
had
a
spellchecker
back
then!
21.Which
of
the
following
surnames
can
tell
a
family’s
wealth?
A.
Nutter.
B.
Onions.
C.
Gotobed.
D.
Hardmeat.
22.What
do
Onions
and
Nutter
have
in
common?
A.
They
originated
in
the
UK.
B.
They
mean
silly
people.
C.
They
date
from
the
l3th
century.
D.
They
show
the
occupations.
23.Where
does
the
surname
of
Hardmeat
come
from?
A.
An
incorrectly-spelt
village
name.
B.
A
place
famous
for
hard
meat.
C.
A
village
without
a
spellchecker.
D.
A
family
of
butchers.
B
For
a
while,
I
wrote
a
“Tuesday
tip”
on
my
blog
.
It
was
about
easy
week-night
dinners,
organizing
parties
or
perhaps
finding
time
out
for
friends.
About
a
year
ago,
I
ran
out
of
tips.
The
truth?
As
a
busy
working
mom
with
five
busy
kids,
I
probably
do
have
a
few
tips
to
share.
But
honestly,
the
bar
is
set
pretty
low---on
a
recent
day
when
I
was
walking
our
dog,
a
stranger
who
knew
I
had
five
kids
said,
“Wow!
You
have
a
dog,
too?!
And
it
even
looks
like
you
showered
today!”
Yes,
it’s
true,
I
shower.
Not
every
day,
but
most
days.
See,
I’m
telling
the
truth.
Honestly,
in
this
cold
winter,
I’m
probably
taking
a
shower
more
to
warm
up
than
to
clean
up.
Other
funny
truths?
I’m
tired.
In
fact,
for
the
past
year,
I’ve
been
too
tired
to
type
up
any
update
on
our
life
here
in
Lyons
Den.
It’s
hard
to
arrange
a
career
with
all
these
kids.
Although
folks
just
believe
that
it
must
be
so
much
easier
now
since
all
the
kids
are
in
school,
I’m
here
to
tell
you,
it’s
not.
It’s
really
not.
When
I
get
home
from
work,
I’m
often
tearfully
greeted
by
five
kids
and
five
homework
folders
filled
with
math
facts,
invitations,
notices
and
artwork.
All
those
happy
smiling
faces
I
share
on
Facebook
are
real.
We
are
a
happy
family---thank
God
for
that!
But
we’re
not
always
smiling,
and
even
in
those
rare
best
times
when
I
can
get
all
five
kids
looking
at
the
camera,
the
odds
would
be
that
one
of
them
isn’t
wearing
underwear,
one
is
pinching
(捏)
someone
behind
the
scenes
and
one
is
just
perfectly
pronouncing
“Damn!”
So,
less
perfectly-posed
pictures,
but
more
telling
the
truth.
Even
if
only
on
Tuesday.
It

_____.
A.
tiring

is
to
search
for
signs
of
ancient
microbial
(微生
物)
life
on
Mars.
Landing
on
Mars
is
extremely
tricky.
The
Red
Planet’s
gravitational
pull
causes
approaching
spacecraft
to
go
faster
to
high
speeds,
while
its
thin
atmosphere---just
1
percent
that
of
Earth’s---does
little
to
help
slow
it
down
as
it
approaches
the
surface.
The
scientists
had
to
reduce
Percy’s
12,000
mph
speed
to
a
safe
landing
speed
of
less
than
five
mph---in
just
six
and
a
half
minutes.
The
target
entry
angle
also
had
to
be
a
precise
12
degrees---any
steeper,
and
the
spacecraft
would
burn
up;
any
flatter,
and
it
would
get
lost
in
space.
It
is
no
wonder
that
the
final
approach
is
often
referred
to
as
the
"seven
minutes
of
terror."
Upon
attaining
a
manageable
speed,
Percy
briefly
flew
over
the
Martian
surface
to
seek
out
the
perfect
landing
spot.
Its
complex
map-reading
system
rapidly
scanned
the
area
and
matched
it
with
maps
in
its
database
to
find
the
best
location.
The
NASA
scientists
will
spend
the
next
two
months
testing
Percy’s
scientific
instruments.
Once
ready,
the
rover
will
begin
to
carry
out
its
mission.
"Perseverance
is
the
smartest
robot
ever
made,
but
confirming
that
microbial
life
once
existed
carries
an
unusually
large
burden
of
proof,"
said
Lori
Glaze,
director
of
NASA’s
Planetary
Science
Division.
"While
we’ll
learn
a
lot
with
the
great
instruments
we
have
aboard
the
rover,
it
may
very
well
require
the
far
more
well-equipped
laboratories
and
delicate
instruments
back
here
on
Earth
to
tell
us
whether
our
samples
(样本)
carry
evidence
that
Mars
once
harbored
life."
What
is
the
extraordinary
challenge
for
the
rover
to
land
on
Mars?

While
the
arts
can'
t
stop
the
COVID-19
virus
or
the
social
unrest
we
see
in
the
world
today,
they
can
give
us
insight
into
the
choices
we
make
when
moving
through
crises
and
chaos.
The
arts
invite
everyone
to
think
in
new
ways.
We
often
experience
works
of
art
as
something
that's
pleasing
to
our
senses
without
a
full
understanding
of
the
creative
effort.
Great
art
often
shows
us
contradictions
and
crises,
and
we
can
learn
a
great
deal
from
their
resolutions(解决).
Through
our
understanding
of
art,
we
can
gain
a
deeper
understanding
of
how
we
might
overcome
our
own
challenges.
In
understanding
extremes
of
contrast,
we
can
see
the
beauty
in
art
with
themes
that
are
not
simply
pleasing
for
their
magnificent
features
or
qualities.
Beethoven
offers
a
wonderful
example
of
moving
artfully
through
crises
and
chaos.
He
composed
his
Symphony
No.
9
as
his
hearing
loss
became
more
and
more
obvious.
The
opening
of
the
symphony
seems
to
come
out
of
nowhere,
from
near
silence
in
the
opening
to
a
full
expression
of
what
many
consider
to
be
the
joy
of
freedom
and
universal
brotherhood
with
Schiller’s
Ode
to
joy(欢乐颂).
Beethoven
appears
to
have
created
a
work
of
art
that
not
only
freed
him
from
his
personal
struggles,
but
one
that
also
speaks
to
the
joy
of
living
together
in
peace
and
harmony.
Have
a
dialogue
between
the
two
opposing
parts
and
you
will
find
that
they
always
start
out
fighting
each
other
until
we
come
to
an
appreciation
of
difference—a
oneness
of
the
two
opposing
forces.
The
arts
offer
many
lessons
that
can
help
us
gain
the
knowledge
we
need
to
move
more
confidently
in
today’
s
competitive
and
uncertain
environment.
An
openness
to
arts-based
solutions
will
give
you
more
control
over
your
future.
What
value
does
art
have
beyond
pleasing
people's
senses?
A.
It
brings
people
inner
peace.
B.
It
contributes
to
problem-solving.
C.
It
reduces
the
possibility
of
crises.
D.
It
deepens
understanding
of
music.
What
can
we
learn
about
Beethoven's
Symphony
No.

A.
It
celebrates
freedom
and
unity.
B.
It
aims
to
show
crises
and

C.
It
opens
with
Schiller's
Ode
to

D.
It
is
unfinished
due
to

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
It’s
natural
to
greet
friends
with
a
smile
and
a
wave.
36
But
what
happens
if
your
face
and
body
send
mixed
messages?
Would
someone
be
more
likely
to
believe
the
look
on
your
face
or
the
way
you
hold
your
body?
Scientists
have
recently
tackled
these
questions.
They
found
that
when
a
person
is
looking
at
your
face,
she
might
not
believe
what
she
sees
if
your
body
language
doesn’t
match
the
feeling
that
your
face
shows.
37
Previously,
they
had
found
that
the
tone
of
a
person’s
voice
can
be
more
important
than
the
words
that
are
spoken.
For
example,
most
people
tend
not
to
believe
a
person
who
says
in
a
flat
voice,
“I’m
so
excited.”
When
it
came
to
emotions
conveyed
by
facial
expressions
and
body
language,
most
scientists
suspected
that
the
face
was
more
important.
To
test
if
this
was
true,
psychologists
from
the
Netherlands
and
Boston
showed
people
a
number
of
pictures
of
isolated(孤立的)faces
and
isolated
bodies
(with
faces
blurred
out(模糊的))
that
showed
anger
or
fear.
38
An
angry
face
had
low
eyebrows
and
tight
lips.
A
scared
face
had
high
eyebrow
and
a
slightly
open
mouth.
39
A
scared
body
had
arms
forward
and
shoulders
square,
as
if
ready
to
defend.
These
results
told
the
researchers
that
mixed
signals
can
confuse
people.
Even
when
people
pay
attention
to
the
face,
body
language
subtly(微妙地)
influences
which
emotion
they
read.
If
you
want
to
be
understood,
it
helps
to
avoid
sending
mixed
messages.
Studying
such
mixed
messages
is
nothing
new
for
scientists.
So,
your
body
language
is
important
for
telling
people
how
you
feel.
Scientists
feel
new
to
study
the
mixed
message
that
confuses
people.
An
angry
body
had
arms
back
and
shoulders
at
an
angle,
as
if
ready
to
fight.
Body
language
can
sometimes
be
misunderstood
in
different
culture
backgrounds.
When
you
do
this,
your
face
and
body
work
together
to
show
your
friends
that
you’re
happy
to
see
them.
They
also
showed
pictures
in
which
angry
or
scared
faces
were
paired
with
angry
or
scared
bodies.

I

I

“No,”

I

Is

Not
for
the
British
Education
Secretary
Michael

But,
as
my

me,
it's

Researchers
argue
that
people
have
too
high
expectations
of
the
power
of
saying
sorry.
Some
psychologists
said
in
a
study
that
64

apologies

Dear
editor,
In
our
school
students
are
constantly
complaining
about
bad
food
in
the
dining
room.
It
serves
with
many
dishes
from
Cantonese
to
Sichuan
hotpot,
so
the
quality
isn’t
good.
Some
students
said
they
had
found
stones
or
died
pests
in
their
food.
The
popular
joke
is
that
you
are
really
luck
if
you
find
nothing
strange
or
smelly
in
the
food.
As
the
majority
of
student
have
no
choice
but
eat
in
the
dining
room,
money
can
still
be
made
if
the
dining
room
makes
a
effort
to
improve
the
quality
of
food.
The
dining
room
should
pay
attention
to
providing
better
services
and
tasted
food.
It
is
high
time
that
the
dining
room
should
change
their
idea
of
management.
We
were
looking
forward
to
the
day.
