Math
holidays
everyone
should
know
In
recent
years
mathematicians
and
scientists
have
begun
campaigns
to
mark
certain
dates
in
celebration
of
significant
principles
and
here
are
a
few
to
add
to
your
calendar
Mole
Day
Mole
Day
is
celebrated
yearly
on
Oct.
23
from
6:
02
a.m
to
6:
02
p.m..
The
idea
of
a
celebratory
day
was
put
forward
by
a
chemistry
teacher
in
1991
and
has
been
honored
every
year
since.
It
celebrates
Avogadro's
Number,
which
is
a
basic
measuring
unit
in
chemistry.
Each
Mole
Day
has
a
specific
theme.
Pi
Day
The
granddaddy
of
mathematical
and
scientific
holidays,
however,
falls
every
year
on
Mar.
14.
The
date,
3/14,
represents
the
first
three
numerals
in
the
calculation
of
pi,
so
the
date
is
known
annually
as
Pi
Day.
Pi
Day
was
founded
in
1988
by
a
physicist.
The
observations
spread
to
the
point
where
on
Mar.
12,
2009,
the
U.S.
House
of
Representatives
passed
a
resolution
declaring
Mar.
14
as
National
Pi
Day.
Fibonacci
Day
Nov.
23
marks
Fibonacci
Day,
a
special
day
that
celebrates
the
man
known
as
Fibonacci
who
developed
a
mathematical
idea
called
the
Fibonacci
Sequence,
in
which
every
number
is
the
sum
of
the
previous
two
numbers.
So,
for
example.
11/23
marks
the
day
because
1+1
equals
2,
and
then
1+2
equals
3(the
date
being
the
23rd).
Square
Root
Day
Square
Root
Day
is
a
holiday
that
heartily
honors
those
dates
where
the
combination
of
day
and
month
and
year
form
square
roots:
e.g.
2/2/04
and
3/3/09.
The
last
Square
Root
Day
was
4/4/16.
The
holiday
was
created
by
a
high
school
teacher
Ron
Gordon.
Square
Root
Day
has
its
own
website
where
celebrants
can
gather
before
the
next
holiday.
1.How
is
Mole
Day
similar
with
Pi
Day?
A.They
both
have
themes.
B.They
are
yearly
holidays.
C.They
fall
on
the
same
day.
D.They
are
created
by
a
teacher.
2.Which
holiday
is
to
honor
a
person?
A.Mole
Day.
B.Pi
Day.
C.Fibonacci
Day.
D.Square
Root
Day.
3.Which
day
might
be
celebrated
as
Square
Root
Day?
A.10/23/22.
B.11/23/23.
C.3/12/29.
D.5/5/25.
B
Fu
Cong,
a
Chinese-born
pianist,
died
on
Monday
at
a
hospital
in
London,
where
he
had
lived
for
many
years.
A
lover
of
classical
music
from
a
young
age,
Mr.
Fu
began
taking
piano
lessons
when
he
was
7.
He
made
his
first
stage
appearance
in
1952.
The
concert
caught
the
attention
of
officials
in
Beijing,
who
selected
him
to
compete
and
tour
in
Eastern
Europe.
Mr.
Fu
soon
moved
to
Poland,
where
he
studied
at
the
Warsaw
Conservatory
(音乐学校)
on
a
scholarship.
To
prepare
for
the
fifth
Chopin
Competition
in
Warsaw
in
1955,
he
practiced
so
hard
that
he
hurt
his
fingers
and
was
nearly
cut
from
the
first
round
of
the
competition.
Mr.
Fu
was
one
of
the
first
Chinese
pianists
to
achieve
global
fame
when
he
took
third
place
in
the
International
Chopin
Piano
Competition
in
Warsaw
in
1955.
He
also
won
a
special
prize
for
his
performance
of
Chopin's
mazurkas.
Almost
overnight,
he
became
a
national
hero.
To
China,
Mr.
Fu's
recognition
in
a
well-known
international
competition
was
evidence
that
the
country
could
stand
on
its
own
artistically
in
the
West.
Chinese
reporters
came
to
interview
Mr.
Fu,
while
many
others
went
to
his
father,
Fu
Lei,
for
advice
on
child-raising.
In
1981,
a
volume
of
letters
written
by
his
father,
was
published
in
China.
Full
of
advice,
encouragement,
life
teachings
and
strict
paternal
love,
the
book
Fu
Lei's
Family
Letters
became
a
best-seller
in
China.
Besides
influencing
a
generation
of
Chinese,
Mr.
Fu's
words
resonated
(引起共鸣)
long
after
his
death
with
the
person
for
whom
they
were
intended.
“My
father
had
a
saying
that
'First
you
must
be
a
person,
then
an
artist,
and
then
a
musician,
and
only
then
can
you
be
a
pianist,'"
Mr.
Fu
Cong
once
recalled
in
an
interview.
"Even
now,
I
believe
in
this
order-that
it
should
be
this
way
and
that
I
am
this
way.”
4.What
is

2
mainly
about?
A.Fu
Cong's
achievements
in
music.
B.Fu
Cong's
stage
performances.
C.Fu
Cong's
experiences
of
learning
music.
D.Fu
Cong’s
efforts
for
competitions.
5.Why
does
Fu
Cong's
global
recognition
mean
a
lot
to
China?
A.It
earns
Chinese
arts
a
place
in
the
West.
B.It
promotes
the
spread
of
Chinese
culture.
C.It
proves
Chinese
people's
love
for
music.
D.It
enables
Chinese
art
education
to
be
recognized.
6.What
does
the
underlined
word
“they”
in
paragraph
4
refer
to?
A.Fu
Lei's
Family
Letters.
B.Young
people
of
China.
C.Fu
Cong
and
his
family.
D.Readers
of
Fu
Lei's
Family
Letters.
7.Which
of
the
following
agrees
with
Fu
Lei's
ideas
in
the
last
paragraph?
A.It's
easy
to
be
an
artist.
B.It
requires
various
qualities
to
be
a
pianist.
C.Everyone
should
develop
an
interest
in
art.
D.Talent
is
of
greatest
importance
for
a
pianist.
C
Imagine
a
school
that
expected
its
students
to
become
literate
without
any
formal
instruction.
Most
parents
would
be
alarmed
by
such
an
approach,
which
would
leave
their
children
confused
and
with
gaps
in
their
understanding.
This,
however,
has
been
the
philosophy
on
character
development
in
many
of
our
schools.
Why
is
the
development
of
character
seen
as
somehow
different
from
the
other
skills
that
we
teach?
Of
course
there
will
always
be
learning
by
osmosis
(耳濡目染)
in
any
school,
but
as
a
teacher
and
primary
school
head
I
have
found
that
a
child’s
moral
literacy
is
strengthened
when
they
acquire
the
building
blocks
of
good
character
such
as
consideration,
courage
and
honor:
qualities
which
are
commonly
known
as
virtues.
I
personally
find
that
exploring
a
virtue
over
a
two-week
period
provides
a
simple
and
effective
program
that
allows
for
the
creative
input
of
both
teacher
and
student
and
a
chance
for
the
virtue
to
embed
(使融入)
itself.
Once
a
lesson
on
a
virtue
such
as
honesty
has
been
completed
we
need
to
allow
time
for
children
to
practice
this
concept
just
as
would
be
the
case
with
fractions
or
verbs.
Allowing
children
to
role
play
a
situation
such
as
making
up
excuses
to
cover
a
mistake
can
be
enormously
interesting,
and
the
drama
can
be
frozen
allowing
the
characters
to
be
questioned
about
their
feelings
and
motives.
It’s
also
a
safe
way
for
children
to
experience
for
themselves
how
a
lie
usually
goes
out
of
control.
Our
role
as
educators
is
also
to
look
for
opportunities
to
help
our
students
as
they
attempt
to
strengthen
their
characters.
When
something
goes
wrong
we
guide
the
young
person
to
the
virtue
that
will
prevent
it
from
happening
again.
For
instance,
when
a
student
thoughtlessly
disturbs
the
calm
atmosphere
of
the
library,
instead
of
a
response
such
as,
“that
was
really
disrespectful
and
selfish
of
you!”
we
draw
out
from
them
the
required
virtue:
“When
you’re
walking
through
the
library,
what
virtues
do
you
need
to
use?”
8.What
does
the
underlined
word
“philosophy”
in
the
first
paragraph
mean?
A.Viewpoint.
B.Subject.
C.Motto.
D.Study.
9.What
can
be
inferred
from
the
first
paragraph?
A.There
tends
to
be
disagreement
about
what
character
education
is.
B.Most
parents
are
not
satisfied
with
the
teaching
methods
adopted
in
schools.
C.The
approach
to
character
education
is
generally
considered
different
from
the
approaches
to
other
skills.
D.More
and
more
schools
are
adopting
strategies
to
improve
school
attendance.
10.Children’s
moral
literacy
get
improved
when
_________.
A.they
have
gradually
learnt
to
imitate
B.they
have
learnt
the
importance
of
role
play
C.they
have
learnt
specific
moral
qualities
one
by
one
D.they
are
given
enough
time
to
practice
11.Which
of
the
following
is
the
main
idea
of
this
passage?
A.Teaching
morals
and
values
has
been
a
frequently
discussed
topic
in
the
past
few
years.
B.The
author
advocates
putting
virtues
into
lessons
and
school
life
to
encourage
character
development
in
children.
C.Kids
throughout
the
population
face
the
same
needs,
the
same
challenges,
and
the
same
realities
in
their
lives.
D.Role
plays
are
an
excellent
way
of
getting
students
to
practice
their
English.
D
Is
there
anybody
out
there?
For
centuries
humans
have
wondered
although
the
ways
in
which
we
have
gone
about
this
have
varied.
As
we
have
gained
a
greater
understanding
of
the
universe,
our
searches
have
taken
on
more
concrete(具体的)
forms.
Questions
about
aliens(外星人)
have
become
a
subject
for
science
rather
than
science
fiction.
Now
new
cooperation
between
the
Very
Large
Array
(VLA)
observatory
in
New
Mexico
and
the
SETI
Institute
in
California
means
that
our
curiosity
about
whether
aliens
exist
can
be
closer
than
ever
before
to
being
satisfied.
Data
from
the
VLA’S
28
radio
telescopes,
used
to
scan
a
vast
area
of
sky,
will
be
fed
through
a
special
supercomputer
that
will
search
for
distant
signals.
How
likely
it
is
that
a
signal
will
be
found,
and
what
this
might
mean,
are
hard
questions
to
answer.
SETI’s
existing
projects
have
not
discovered
any
signals
from
other
planets
so
far.
But
recent
discoveries
in
space
and
Earth
sciences
have
provided
some
encouragement
for
those
who
are
enthusiastic
about
the
possibility,
however
remote,
of
detecting
other
civilizations.
Once
it
was
thought
that
our
solar
system
could
be
unique.
Since
the
discovery
of
the
first
exoplanet
(a
planet
beyond
the
solar
system)
in
the
1990s,
thousands
more
have
been
located.
Around
one
in
five
stars
is
now
thought
to
have
a
planet
in
their
orbit(运行轨道)
in
a
so-called
“habitable(适合居住的)
zone”—that
is,
at
a
distance
from
the
star
where
the
temperature
means
that
life
is
theoretically
possible.
Are
Earth’s
7.5
billion
humans,
along
with
billions
of
other
animals
and
plants
they
share
their
home
with,
on
their
own
in
the
universe?
If
there
is
another
life
form
somewhere,
could
it
be
as
intelligent
as
humans?
Or
could
it
threaten
them?
I
think
all
of
these
need
further
exploration.
As
explorations
of
Mars
continue,
and
a
new
set
of
observations
from
the
James
Webb
Space
Telescope
are
set
to
begin,
our
interest
in
the
possibility
of
alien
life
appears
as
much
as
before.
12.Why
does
the
VLA
work
with
SETI?
A.To
develop
new
radio
telescopes.
B.To
find
evidence
of
aliens’
existence.
C.To
build
a
special
supercomputer.
D.To
search
for
distant
signals.
13.What
is
the
encouraging
news
for
scientists
exploring
distant
civilizations?
A.Life
does
indeed
exist
on
exoplanets.
B.New
technologies
are
employed
to
find
aliens.
C.Some
exoplanets
may
have
habitable
zones.
D.Signals
have
been
discovered
from
other
planets.
14.What
is
the
author's
attitude
to
the
existence
of
aliens?
A.Uncertain.
B.Positive.
C.Unacceptable.
D.Worried.
15.What
might
be
the
best
title
for
the
text?
A.Space:
the
unknown
place
B.Finding
aliens:
possible
or
not?
C.Receiving
signals:
aliens
appear
again?
D.Exoplanets:
home
of
aliens
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
I
have
been
a
teacher
for
some
years.
In
my
opinion,
I
don’t
believe
Artificial
Intelligence
(AI)
could
replace
my
teaching
career.
I
have
always
been
interested
in
human
connection,
and
the
way
in
which
I
can
use
these
commotions
to
make
a
difference.
16
,
there
are
other
ways
where
AI
could
make
a
more
efficient
and
effective
difference
than
I
could
on
my
own.
My
teaching
experiences
over
the
past
several
years
have
been
creative
and
inspiring-
1
believe
that
the
job
of
educators
extends
beyond
simply
teaching
students
a
set
curriculum.
17
.
They
must
constantly
reflect
on
ways
to
better
their
teaching,
and
they
must
inspire
their
students
to
be
the
best
versions
of
themselves.
And
now
with
the
help
of
Al,
they
could
achieve
these
goals
much
easier.
18
.
First,
AI
can
be
used
to
promote
fundamental
skills,
such
as
mathematical
education
and
vocabulary
lessons.
Additionally,
I
see
AI
being
used
for
necessary
tasks
such
as
answering
questions
and
grading
assignments.
Thus
I
could
focus
my
attention
on
establishing
human
connection,
individualizing
lesson
plans
and
inspiring
my
students.
19
.
I
believe
AI
could
provide
a
strong
basis
for
educational
equality
around
the
world.
According
to
Todd
Leopold,
close
to
800
million
people
worldwide
are
functionally
illiterate
(不识字的).
Due
to
its
ability
to
efficiently
pass
knowledge
across
large
groups
of
people,
fewer
teachers
may
be
needed
in
some
schools.
20
.
A.Since
students
will
always
need
a
human
teacher
B.I
think
AI
is
a
powerful
assistant
to
my
future
classroom
C.The
benefit
AI
brings
is
far
beyond
my
own
classroom.
D.Although
human
connection
may
never
be
able
to
be
fully
replaced
by
AI
E.As
students
need
to
learn
how
to
use
AI
to
better
their
academic
performance
F.
They
must
observe
and
get
to
know
their
students
in
order
to
individualize
educational
plan
G.
This
could
be
an
opportunity
for
students
everywhere
to
receive
equal
education
第二部分
语言运用(共两节,满分
30分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。
Yesterday,
a
salesman
called
me
by
phone,
on
behalf
of
a
telecommunication
company,
to
sell
his
phone
plans.
I
was
at
work
and
while
I
usually
don't
like
spending
time
on
those
conversations,
I
21
myself
that
I
couldn't
talk
yet
and
22
that
he
call
me
back
one
hour
later,
at
6
pm.
That's
what
he
did.
So
we
23
about
15
minutes.
He
explained
to
me
his
different
phone
plans,
which
he
stated
to
be
better
than
my
24
one.
While
listening
to
him,
sometimes
I
was
lost
in
my
thoughts.
I
gave
several
“hmm
hmm”,
as
a
sign
of
agreement
and
to
25
that
I
was
still
there.
Sometimes,
I
felt
a
bit
26
,
especially
as
he
had
a
bit
of
difficulty
in
correctly
talking
in
French.
But
I
stayed
calm
and
27
until
the
end
of
the
discussion.
Finally,
he
expressed
his
28
to
me:
“Olivier,
you
are
the
first
person
in
a
long
time,
with
whom
I
had
a(n)
29
conversation.
Usually,
people
30
at
us
and
slam
down
the
phone.
Today,
since
10
a.m.
I
hadn't
had
31
without
an
offense.
I
know
you
had
a
long
day
at
work
and
you
could
have
32
in

读后续写(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的词数应为150左右。
“If
mum
finds
out
that
I'm
going
to
the
beach,
I'll
be
in
big
trouble.”
I
said
to
myself
softly
in
a
low
voice.
I
went
downstairs
slowly
and
tried
to
walk
casually
into
the
kitchen.
As
I
was
walking
towards
the
back
door,
mum
asked
without
looking
up
from
her
dish-washing,
“Where
are
you
going?”
I
answered
back
without
hesitation,
“I
am
going
to
the
garden
to
play.”
After
I
got
out
of
the
kitchen,
I
breathed
a
sign
of
relief.
My
plan
had
worked
out
fine
so
far.
I
climbed
the
fence
and
jumped
onto
the
muddy
field
next
to
my
house
and
started
running
towards
the
bus
stop
at
top
speed.
After
half
an
hour
I
was
at
the
beach
scanning
the
crowd
for
my
friends,
Jimmy
and
Bobby.
Two
young
men
were
racing
in
the
canoes
(独木舟).
After
a
while,
I
saw
them
near
a
coconut
tree.
I
ran
towards
them
and
got
into
my
swimming
trunk
(游泳裤).
For
about
an
hour,
we
played
volleyball
happily.
Suddenly,
Bobby
hit
the
ball
too
hard
and
the
ball
fell
into
the
sea.
Just
as
Bobby
was
going
to
pick
up
the
ball,
the
tide
came
in
and
carried
the
ball
further
and
further
away
from
the
shore.
I
wanted
to
show
off
my
swimming
skills
so
I
declared
to
help
get
the
ball
for
him.
I
dived
into
the
water
and
started
swimming
at
a
steady
pace.
After
swimming
for
about
ten
minutes,
I
became
tired
but
when
I
saw
that
the
ball
was
only
a
few
feet
away
from
me,
I
put
in
an
extra
burst
of
speed.
However,
just
as
I
was
going
to
get
the
ball,
a
very
strong
current
swept
the
ball
further
away
from
me.
At
that
moment,
a
string
of
weed
(海草)
tangled
(缠绕)
up
with
my
feet
and
I
could
not
swim
properly.
I
struggled
to
keep
afloat
but
it
was
no
use.
“If
I
had
listened
to
my
parents,
this
would
never
have
happened,”
I
thought
silently.

a
school
that
expected
its
students
to
become
literate
without
any
formal
instruction.
Most
parents
would
be
alarmed
by
such
an
approach,
which
would
leave
their
children
confused
and
with
gaps
in
their
understanding.
(想象一下,一所学校期望学生在没有任何正规教育的情况下识字,大多数家长会对这种做法感到震惊,因为这种做法会让他们的孩子感到困惑,并且在理解上存在偏差)”和“This,
however,
has
been
the
philosophy
on
character
development
in
many
of
our
schools.
(然而,这一直是我们许多学校关于性格发展的philosophy)
”可知此处的philosophy是指大家对一所学校期望学生在没有任何正规教育的情况下识字并发展性格这件事的看法/观点。故选A项。
9.推理判断题。由第一段的最后一句“Why
is
the
development
of
character
seen
as
somehow
different
from
the
other
skills
that
we
teach?
(为什么性格的发展被认为与我们教的其他技能有些不同?)”可知,性格的发展与我们所教的其他技能有所不同,可以推理出性格教育的方法通常被认为不同于其他技能的方法。故选C项。
10.细节理解题。由第二段“Of
course
there
will
always
be
learning
by
osmosis
(耳濡目染)
in
any
school,
but
as
a
teacher
and
primary
school
head
I
have
found
that
a
child’s
moral
literacy
is
strengthened
when
they
acquire
the
building

of
good
character
such
as
consideration,
courage
and
honor:
qualities
which
are
commonly
known
as
virtues.
(当然,任何一所学校都会有耳濡目染式的学习,但作为一名教师和小学校长,我发现,当一个孩子获得了体贴、勇气和荣誉等良好品质的基石时,他们的道德素养就会得到加强,而这些品质通常被称为美德)”可知,孩子们获得诸如体贴、勇气和荣誉等具体道德品质时,也就是他们学到了一个接一个的具体的道德品质,道德素养就会得到加强。故选C项。
11.主旨大意题。由上题分析可知,学生可以在学校耳濡目染学习一个又一个的具体的道德品质,道德素养就会加强。再第三段中“Once
a
lesson
on
a
virtue
such
as
honesty
has
been
completed
we
need
to
allow
time
for
children
to
practice
this
concept
just
as
would
be
the
case
with
fractions
or
verbs.
(一旦关于诚实等美德的课程结束,我们就需要给孩子们时间去实践这个概念,就像分数或动词那样)”和最后一段“Our
role
as
educators
is
also
to
look
for
opportunities
to
help
our
students
as
they
attempt
to
strengthen
their
characters.

humans,
along
with
billions
of
other
animals
and
plants
they
share
their

16.空后“there
are
other
ways
where
AI
could
make
a
more
efficient
and
effective
difference
than
I
could

17.上文“I
believe
that
the
job
of
educators
extends
beyond
simply
teaching
students
a
set
curriculum.

must
constantly
reflect
on
ways
to
better
their
teaching,
and
they
must
inspire
their
students
to
be
the
best
versions
of
themselves.
(他们必须不断地思考改进教学的方法,必须激励学生成为最好的自己)”是教育工作者工作的一方面,选项F“他们必须观察和了解自己的学生,以便制定个性化的教育
计划
”承接上文,介绍了教育工作者的工作,与空后内容并列,且句式上相似,故选F。
18.下文“First,
AI
can
be
used
to
promote
fundamental
skills,
such
as
mathematical
education
and
vocabulary
lessons.
Additionally,
I
see
AI
being
used
for
necessary
tasks
such
as
answering
questions
and
grading
assignments.”提到的是人工智能在教学方面的作用,所以选项B“我认为人工智能是我未来课堂的有力助手”,放在段首,符合本段中心思想,故选B。
19.根据上题分析可知,上段主要描述人工智能在教学课堂的作用。后文从更广的范围角度,描述人工智能的作用,所以选项C“人工智能带来的好处远远超出了我自己的课堂”放在句首,承接了上文,也能引出下文,符合语境,故选C。
20.上文“I
believe
AI
could
provide
a
strong
basis
for
educational
equality
around
the
world.”以及“Due
to
its
ability
to
efficiently
pass
knowledge

large
groups
of
people,
fewer
teachers
may
be
needed
in
some
schools.”,选项G“这可能是各地学生接受平等教育的机会”对应了上文中人工智能所带来的益处,故选G。

【答案】
36.taking
37.with
38.that
39.comfortably
40.was
designed
41.fashionable
42.popularity
43.Although/Though/While
44.to
enjoy
45.being
asked
【解析】
36.考查非谓语动词。take在这里作than的宾语,表示“喝下午茶”这一行为,要用动名词形式。故填taking。
37.考查with复合结构。分析句子可知,空白处所在句应该作为插入语,其中的动作是伴随着主句的动作一起进行的,且cups与drunk之间应该是动宾关系,符合“with
+
名词
(或代词)
+
过去分词”的with复合结构用法。故填with。
38.考查强调句。从句中去掉it
was和空白处,句子的成分是完整的,这里是对主语进行了强调,强调句的基本结构是“it
is/was+被强调部分+that”。故填that。
39.考查副词。该空在这里修饰动词drinking,要用副词形式。故填comfortably。
40.考查被动语态。这里使用了定语从句,which指代的就是afternoon
tea,与design之间应该是被动关系,构成be
designed
as,描述发生在过去的事情,用一般过去时。故填was
designed。
41.考查形容词。fashion在这里作定语修饰social
occasion,要用形容词形式。故填fashionable。
42.考查名词。这里its是形容词性物主代词,其后要接名词,需将popular变为popularity表示“流行,受欢迎”。故填popularity。
43.考查连词。分析前后句逻辑关系可知,有典型的“欲扬先抑”——可以在家,但最好在咖啡馆。前句应该是让步状语从句,要用although、though或while引导,表示“尽管,虽然”。故填Although/Though/While。
44.考查非谓语动词。这里enjoy作目的状语,要用不定式形式。故填to
enjoy。
45.考查非谓语动词。avoid
doing
sth.意为“避免做某事”,其后要接动词-ing形式。“你”和“要求离开”之间是被动关系,用动名词的被动形式,故填being
asked。

Finally,
after
struggling
for
a
minute
or
two,
I
still
got
pulled
underwater.
I
told
myself
I
should
never
give
up.
Then
I
pulled
the
weed
again
with
great
efforts.
The
weed
finally
broke.
I
swam
back
to
the
surface
to
take
a
deep
breath.
I
saw
two
young
men
in
the
canoes,
racing
each
other.
I
was
exhausted
and
shouted
for
help.
The
two
men
saw
me
and
raced
towards
me.
By
the
time
they
reached
me,
I
had
been
already
unconscious.
When
I
woke
up,
I
was
in
an
empty
room
lying
on
a
bed.
It
was
not
until
a
doctor
came
into
the
room
that
I
realized
that
I
was
in
the
hospital.
Jimmy
and
Bobby
told
me
the
two
young
men
brought
me
to
the
shore
and
sent
me
to
the
hospital.
After
a
few
minutes,
my
parents
with
half
angry
and
half
worried
faces
walked
in.
My
parents
scolded
me
for
running
out
of
the
house
secretly
but
were
also
glad
that
I
was
not
seriously
injured.
I
will
never
forget
that
terrifying
experience.
Neither
will
I
ever
want
to
show
off
again.
