Joanne
was
stuck
in
a
traffic
jam
in
central
Birmingham
at
5:30,
and
at
6:30
she
was
expected
to
be
chairing
a
meeting
of
the
tennis
club.
At
last,
the
traffic
was
moving.
She
swung
quickly
racing
to
her
house.
As
she
opened
the
door,
she
nearly
tripped
over
Sheba.
“Hey,
Sheba,”
she
said,
“I’ve
got
no
time
for
you
now,
but
I’ll
take
you
out
as
soon
as
I
get
back
from
tennis
club.”
Then
she
noticed
Sheba
seemed
to
be
coughing
or
choking.
Obviously,
she
could
hardly
breathe.
Immediately,
Joanne
realized
she
would
have
to
take
her
to
the
vet
(兽医).
When
she
got
there,
the
vet
was
just
about
to
close
for
the
day.
Seeing
the
state
of
Sheba,
Dr.
Sterne
brought
her
quickly
into
his
office.
“Listen,
doctor,
I’m
really
in
a
rush
to
get
to
a
meeting
––
can
I
leave
her
with
you,
and
go
and
get
changed?
I’ll
be
back
in
ten
minutes
to
pick
her
up,
and
then
I’ll
take
her
on
to
the
meeting
with
me.
Is
that
OK?”
“Sure,”
said
the
doctor.
Joanne
made
the
quick
trip
back
to
her
house
in
a
couple
of
minutes.
As
she
was
once
more
entering
the
hallway,
the
phone
by
the
door
began
to
ring.
“This
is
Dr.
Sterne,”
said
an
anxious
voice.
“I
want
you
to
get
out
of
that
house
immediately,”
said
the
doctor’s
voice.
“I’m
coming
round
right
away,
and
the
police
will
be
there
any
time
now.
Wait
outside!”
At
that
moment,
a
police
car
screeched
to
a
stop
outside
the
house.
Two
policemen
got
out
and
ran
into
the
house.
Joanne
was
by
now
completely
confused
and
very
frightened.
Then
the
doctor
arrived.
“Where’s
Sheba?
Is
she
OK?”
shouted
Joanne.
“She’s
free,
Joanne.
I
took
out
the
thing
which
was
choking
her,
and
she’s
OK
now.”
Just
then,
the
two
policemen
reappeared
from
the
house,
half-carrying
a
white-faced
man,
who
could
hardly
walk.
There
was
blood
all
over
him.
“My
God,”
said
Joanne,
“how
did
he
get
in
there?
And
how
did
you
know
he
was
there?”
“I
think
he
must
be
a
burglar,”
said
the
doctor.
“I
knew
he
was
there
because
when
I
finally
removed
what
was
stuck
in
Sheba’s
throat;
it
turned
out
to
be
three
human
fingers.”
24.

Joanne

6:
30?

her
friends.
B.
To

a

C.
to
dress
up
for
the
meeting
D.
to
wait
for
her
dog
to
be
cured
26.
From
the
passage,
we
can
infer
that
____________.
A.
the
doctor
performed
a
difficult
operation
on
the
dog
B.
Joanne
had
planned
to
take
her
dog
to
the
meeting
C.
the
police
found
the
burglar
had

In
this

the
writer
intends
to
tell
us
that

dog
is
____________.
A.
devoted
B.

C.
frightening
D.
clever
C
White
sand
beaches
of
the
Cocos
Islands,
which
are
known
as
a
gorgeous
tourist
destination
surrounded
by
greenish
blue
water,
have
now
been
filled
with
plastic
wastes
like
abandoned
plastic
water
bottles,
toothbrushes,
and
cigarette
lighters.
Jennifer
Lavers,
a
marine
scientist,
went
to
these
tropical
islands
with
her
research
team.
Knowing
that
lots
of
beaches
were
polluted
by
plastic
wastes,
the
team
conducted
a
careful
scientific
examination
on
the
coast,
only
to
find
the
problem
caused
by
pieces
of
trash
humans
left
was
worse
than
expected.
Not
all
plastics
are
to
blame.
They
are
necessary
in
places
like
hospitals
and
airplanes,
and
make
our
vehicles
lighter
and
more
efficient.
However,
other
plastics,
especially
disposable
plastics,
account
for
the
growing
mess
on
the
beaches.
Islands
all
over
the
world
are
jammed
with
plastics.
And
the
Cocos
Islands
are
no
exception.
It
requires
the
greatest
effort
of
all
time
to
control
plastic
pollution
in
modern
society.
No
matter
how
tall
the
hurdles(栏架)
are,
something
has
to
be
done.
Apparently,
demand
for
disposable
plastics
must
be
reduced
greatly.
“Why
don’t
we
carry
around
bags
that
we
can
use
over
and
over
again?”
asked
Richard
Gross,
a
chemist
who
researches
innovative
ways
to
make
more
sustainable
plastics.
“Let’s
carry
around
reusable
lunch
boxes.
We
should
understand
how
serious
the
situation
is.”
Although
it
is
important
for
individuals
to
make
an
effort
to
avoid
using
disposable
plastics,
it
is
also
generally
believed
that
only
with
international
rules
can
such
a
deep-rooted,
common,
and
worldwide
scourge(灾害)
be
tackled.
However,
the
U.N.,
which
engages
in
dealing
with
accelerating
climate
change
and
public
health
crises,
obviously
isn’t
paying
enough
attention
to
calling
for
international
action
on
plastic
pollution.
As
a
result,
billions
of
plastic
products
will
still
be
produced
every
year,
many
of
which
will
end
up
in
the
ocean.
Nowadays,
fish
are
eating
plenty
of
plastics,
and
people
eat
those
fish.
It
remains
unrevealed
how
it
will
affect
human
health,
but
clearly
the
amount
of
plastics
used
has
increased
many
times
in
the
last
several
decades,
and
if
this
tendency
goes
on,
by
2050
an
enormous
amount
of
carbon
will
be
released
into
the
already
carbon-saturated(碳饱和的)
skies.

As
a

a

platform
in
China
has
launched
a
new

to
put
the

alone

sing
with

they

singing
with
the
original

but
they

2020,
the
company
developed
cooperation
with
an
American
music

to
1.3

It
is
the
large

expanding
song

that
benefits
the
new
app’s
users
incredibly.
By
taking
advantage
of
it,
they
can
either
perform
the
latest
pop
hits
or
reinterpret
classic
songs.
In

the
new

.
Active
listening
is
a
deliberate
attempt
to
not
only
hear
what
someone
is
saying,
but
to
understand
it.
This
sounds
simple
enough,
but
many
people
will
nod(点头)to
give
the
impression
of
listening,
but
will
actually
just
be
waiting
to
reply
or
ignore
the
other
person
altogether.
Those
with
low
EQ
will
impulsively
start
talking
about
themselves
every
chance
they
get,
no
matter
what
the
topic
is.
For
active
listening,
try
to
build
a
conversation,
which
can
promote
mutual
understanding.

读后续写(满分15分)
读后续写??阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
As
Lia
Bentley
walked
home
from
school
on
a
cold
October
afternoon,
she
saw
symmetry
(对称)
all
around
her:
in
the
faces
of
people
and
the
clothes
they
wore,
in
the
buildings
she
passed
and
in
the
cars
that
went
by.
the
birds
in
the
sky
were
symmetrical,
even
the
autumn
leaves
that
covered
the
sidewalk.
All
the
month,
Lia’s
class
had
been
studying
different
forms
of
symmetry,
and
Lia
was
very
interested.
Mr.
Ferris,
their
science
teacher,
had
given
them
their
final
task:
to
find
the
most
beautiful
example
of
symmetry
and
give
a
report
to
the
class
on
it.
Lia
looked
at
the
task
in
her
notebook.
The
most
beautiful
example
of
symmetry,
she
thought.
What
on
earth
could
that
be?
Halfway
through
the
school
year,
she’d
been
given
a
microscope
(显微镜)
for
her
birthday.
Now
she
realized
that
she
could
use
it
to
study
symmetry.
She
set
up
what
she
called
“laboratory”
in
the
small
wooden
house.
The
microscope
stood
on
a
table.
She
hoped
to
find
an
example
of
symmetry
that
would
stand
out
from
all
the
others.
Lia
spent
hours
on
the
examination
of
cells
and
drops
of
pond
water
full
of
strange
symmetrical
life.
Although
she
was
surprised
by
what
she
saw,
it
troubled
her
that
none
of
it
was
truly
beautiful.
Lia
stayed
in
the
wooden
house
until
her
father
called
her
inside.
“Come
on,
Lia.
It’s
getting
cold
out.
The
weather
forecast
says
it’s
going
to
snow.”
Lia
suddenly
felt
sad.
Snow
meant
winter
was
on
its
way.
The
cold
weather
would
mean
fewer
things
to
look
at
under
the
microscope.
Snow
would
often
cover
the
area
like
a
blanket,
hiding
everything
from
sight.
“Come
inside!”
her
father
called
again.
“Be
there
in
a
minute,
Dad!”
Lia
called
back.
Just
then,
the
door
of
the
wooden
house
was
blown
open
by
s
short
strong
wind.
As
she
turned
her
head
against
the
wind,
she
caught
sight
of
a
single
snowflake
(雪花)
that
had
blown
into
the
wooden
house
and
onto
the
stage
(载物台)
of
her
microscope.
注意:
1.
续写词数应在150左右;
2.
请按如下格式在相应位置作答。
Lia
looked
through

she

have

of
rocks.
At
one
point
I
thought
I
wasn’t
going
to
win.
I
was
ahead
and
then
I
had
to
slow
down
because
a
photographer
jumped
out
from
behind
a
tree.
M:What
do
you
think
is
the
most
important
before
a
race?
W:Well,there’s
much
to
do.
Take
plenty
of
exercise
to
keep
fit.
Check
the
route
in
advance.
And
the
most
important
I
think
is
that
you
must
make
sure
everything’s
working
on
the
bike.
If
there’s
anything
wrong
with
the
bike,I’ll
be
in
trouble.
And
the
clothes
shouldn’t
slow
you
down
so
they
need
to
be
tight.They
might
feel
a
bit
uncomfortable
when
you
first
put
them
on,but
you
will
soon
get
used
to
it.I’m
not
bothered
about
not
looking
pretty—I
just
want
to
win.

W:Hello,this
is
Greenhill
Studies
College.
I’m
leaving
this
message
in
answer
to
your
questions
about
the
Business
Studies
course.
Firstly,you
asked
when
the
course
starts.
It
begins
on
the
12th
of
June,and
finishes
on
the
11th
of
July.
At
the
beginning
of
the
course,there
are
no
lectures
because
we
spend
time
watching
business
videos.
So
you
won’t
need
to
bring
anything
for
the
class,as
everything
is
provided.
Don’t
forget,however,that
although
you
can
bring
your
own
notebook
computer
if
you
wish,mobile
phones
are
not
allowed
in
the
classroom.
I’m
afraid
these
can
disturb
the
classes.
You
said
you’re
coming
by
car.
Well,as
it’s
only
a
short
course,you
can
use
the
visitor’s
car
park
which
is
just
beside
the
main
entrance.
We’re
only
a
short
walk
away.
Just
turn
right
after
the
Science
Center,cross
the
staff
car
park,and
you’ll
see
the
door
to
the
Business
Studies
Department
in
front
of
you.
Finally,you
also
wanted
to
know
if
it’s
possible
to
attend
a
language
course
while
you
are
here.
Well,the
answer
is
yes,but
we
only
have
room
on
our
Italian
classes.
Oh,no,actually...there’s
one
place
on
the
Spanish
course
too.We
usually
offer
French,Chinese,German
and
Japanese
as
well,but
there
aren’t
enough
students
for
those
classes
this
summer.
If
you
want
to
apply
for
the
course,please
sign
up
before
the
5th
of
June.
Thank
you.
