I
don't
know
if
I
will
ever
be
able
to
finish
them
all
as
they
are

but
I

I
would

had
a
wonderful

for
a
business
adventure.
We
decided
we
would
sell
raffle
tickets
for
charity,
and
that
charity
was
us!
A
Wisconsin
man
made
international
headlines
this
week
after
a
dog
lick
(舔)led
to
a
rare
infection
resulting
in
the
loss
of
part
of
his
legs
and
arms.
Greg
Manteufel,
48,
was
diagnosed(诊断)with
a
blood
infection
from
capnocytophaga
canimorsus(?咬?氧化碳嗜纤维菌
),a
bacterium
found
in
dog
and
cat
mouths.
Doctors
believe
Manteufel
became
infected
after
his
body
was
touched
by
a
dog's
tongue.
Manteufel's
case
was
serious.
So
one
afternoon,
we
told
our
mother
we
were
going
to
play
in
the
park
with
our
cousins
as
we
did
most
days
after
school.
But
instead,
we
walked
around
the
streets
armed
with
a
raffle
book,
a
pen
and
a
large
cloth
bag
to
carry
the
money.
We'd
accompanied
our
mother
many
times
when
she
sold
tickets,
so
people
were
familiar
with
us
when
we
appeared
at
their
doors.
Despite
the
blank
looks
they
received
when
asking
about
the
prizes
on
offer,
they
were
very
generous.Although
there
were
no
actual
prizes,
our
mother's
previous
track
record
enabled
us
to
sell
nearly
the
whole
book
of
raffle
tickets.
Capnocytophaga
is
a
bacterium
found
in
the
mouths
of
dogs,
cats
and
even
humans,
and
is
considered
normal,
according
to
the
CDC.
Up
to
74
percent
of
dogs
and
57
percent
of
cats
have
some
form
of
capnocytophaga
in
their
mouths.
There
are
many
species
of
capnocytophaga.
One
of
those
species
--capnocytophaga
canimorsus,
commonly
found
in
dog
and
cat
mouths--can
potentially
cause
serious
infection
when
passed
on
to
humans.
Like
a
little
pair
of
lottery(彩票)winners,
we
walked
home
and
proudly
showed
off
our
takings.
But
our
enjoyment
of
this
sudden
wealth
was
short-lived,
and
our
plans
for
spending
it
quickly
failed.
Our
angry
mother
took
us
back
to
every
ticket
buyer,
making
us
apologise
and
give
the
money
back.
Thankfully,
our
sweet
neighbours
didn'
t
make
a
big
deal
of
our
"clever"
misbehavior
and
thus
my
mother's
fundraising
career
could
continue
safely.
We
were
taught
a
good
lesson
by
our
mother
that
day.Also
I
remember
my
sister's
entrepreneurial(企业家的)spirit
dried
up
a
bit
after
that.
It's
possible
to
test
pets
for
the
presence
of
the
bacteria,
but
an
animal
might
have
the
bacteria
one
day
but
not
have
it
the
next,
according
to
the
CDC.
And
it's
not
practical
to
treat
animals
with
medicine
to
get
rid
of
the
bacteria
because
it's
a
normal
part
of
their
biology.
People
are
typically
infected
with
capnocytophaga
canimorsus
from
an
animal
bite,
usually
a
dog
bite.
Some
people,
like
Manteufel,
become
infected
without
a
bite,
if
an
animal
carrying
the
bacteria
licks
them
and
the
saliva(唾液)touches
an
open
area
on
the
skin,
like
a
cut.
24.What
did
the
author's
father
do?
A.
He
got
prizes
ready.
B.
He
sold
handmade
items.
The
bacterium
is
common,
but
becoming
seriously
ill
from
an
infection
is
not.
"It's
just
really,
really,
really
rare,"
said
Scott
Weese,
a
professor
at
Ontario
Veterinary
College's
Centre
for
Public
Health
and
Zoonoses.
"The
risk
caused
by
a
dog
is
really
low.
Most
dogs
are
carrying
this
bacterium
in
their
mouth,
but
few
people
get
sick."
Experts
don't
know
exactly
how
many
people
get
infected
with
capnocytophaga
annually
because
there's
no
centralized
record
of
cases.
But
all
agree
that
serious
infections
happen
once
in
a
blue
moon.

He
