Interpretation of Lesson 6
Jenny抯 Diary
Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. It抯 my great honor and pleasure to be here sharing my lesson with you.
I have been ready to begin this representation with five parts: analysis of the teaching material, the teaching strategies, the learning methods, the teaching procedure and the blackboard design.
Part 1 Teaching Material
1. The position of the teaching material
The content of my lesson is Lesson 6 of Unit 1, Book2, New Junior English for China, published by Heibei Education Press. The topic of this lesson is Jenny抯 Diary. By studying this lesson, we know that Jenny抯 group had a wonderful trip along the Silk Road. They also experienced the long history and colorful culture of China. Their trip is nearly over , but we should love our motherland and try to make it more and more beautiful.
2. Teaching Aims
According to the new standard curriculum and the syllabus and after studying the teaching material, the teaching aims are as the following:
First, I抎 like to enable the students to master some words like few, hold, Olympics, thousand, etc. and help them understand the content of this lesson (That抯 my knowledge object.)
Second, I抎 like to guide the students to find out some detailed information about each place of interest. While doing this task, I aimed to train students reading ability and set up their effective studying strategies (This is my ability object)
As for the moral object, I抎 like to get the students to be proud of being Chinese and love our country deeply. Meanwhile, I抣l pay more attention to increasing the students interest in learning and speaking English well in order to make contributions to our motherland in the future.
3. The Important and Difficult Points
Based on the requirement of the syllabus, the important point that I抦 going to deal with is to guide the students to get the main idea of the whole lesson and learn to describe an object s age, length, etc. As for the difficult point, what I抦 going to do is to get the students to work in groups, flying their imagination and try to introduce some other places of China to foreign friends.
Part 2 Teaching strategies
As is known to us all, good teaching strategies require that the teacher should not only help the Ss develop good sense of the English language, but also create a good language atmosphere to stimulate the students interest in learning. For achieving these teaching goals, I will use the following strategies:
1. Communicative Approach
2. Task-based Language Teaching Approach
3. Group Cooperating Teaching Approach
Part 3 Learning methods
According to the new standard curriculum, I抎 like to creative a student- centered class and offer the students opportunities to participate in class in groups to share and exchange their ideas with the group members and learn to use English actively and creatively, which will make them experience and explore in the situation, and at the same time develop their sense of cooperation and competition.
Part 4 Teaching procedure
Step1 Pre-reading (Lead-in)
I抎 like to start a free talk in this way: 揇o you keep a diary? Jenny keeps a diary everyday. Can you guess what Jenny wrote yesterday?
The purpose of my lead-in is to attract the students attention for them to think more about what Jenny is going to say in her diary.
Step2. While-reading
Task 1: Skimming
Doing fast reading is a good way to train the students ability of reading comprehension, so the first thing I抎 like to do is to ask the students to look through the passage and find out where Jenny抯 group went yesterday.
Task 2: Scanning
In order to help the students understand the passages and master the language points better, I抎 like to get the students to read the passages again and find out the sentences used to describe objects length, age, width, etc. 揟ask-based teaching method is used here to develop the Ss ability of communication and also their ability of co-operation will be well trained.
Step3. Post-reading(Discussing)
As the students know the whole reading passage, I抎 like to get them to work in groups to have a discussion about some other places of China that they want to advise to Jenny and then give a report about their suggestions. After the students discussion, a representative from each group may present their report to the class. This is a good way to train the students ability of team work.
Step4. Summary
At the end of the class, I抎 like to give a summary that Jenny抯 group had a wonderful trip along the Silk Road and they really experienced the long history and colorful culture of China. Here I抎 like to say 揕et抯 study hard and work together to make our country more and more beautiful
Step5. Homework
My homework in this lesson is to get the students to write a short passage about their hometown. Homework is important and necessary for the students to master the knowledge they have learned. Also it is a good way to cultivate the students' comprehensive ability.
Part 5 Blackboard Design
While teaching, I will use a mind map to show the structure of the text so that the students may get a clue of the text and have a better understanding of the whole text.
In a word, as a teacher, what I should do in teaching is to act as a guider, an organizer and a director who play a role to help the students to become more independent and successful learners.
That is all for my interpretation about this lesson. Thank you for listening.
