If our kids don’t fall, they don’t learn to get up. I still remember the day in high school that my mom forgot to pick me up from school. I抦 the oldest of four children, and no doubt she抎 had a long day with the other kids and it抎 slipped her mind. After waiting at school for an hour, I walked the three miles home, and when I got to my house, I shut our front door with anger, stormed into the kitchen and screamed in my mom抯 face that she抎 forgotten me.
Later that night, my dad told me I no longer had a ride to school the next day. I figured my mom would still take me, but when the morning came, she refused. It was midterm, and as a straight-A student ready to start college applications, being late wasn抰 an option. In my mind, missing these tests would have been the end of my academic career. I begged my mom. I told her she was ruining my future and everything I抎 worked for. But she held her ground, and that day, I walked to school. And I missed my tests.
My mom didn抰 rescue me from failure. She let me suffer from it. She let me figure it out. She let me learn. Now, as a mom myself, I抳e realized that I want my kids to experience failure because failure is how we grow, learn and think outside of ourselves. It抯 how we self-educate to learn what抯 right and respectable, and what抯 not. It抯 how we become responsible and enthusiastic. Falling down makes us better because we learn how to get up.
24.What is one of the reasons that the author got angry that day?
A.She was tired. B.She failed in a test.
C.She was late for school. D.She had to walk home by herself.

26.The underlined phrase “held her ground” in Paragraph 2 probably means “________”.
A.gave in to me B.said yes to me
C.stayed in the place D.kept to her idea
27.What is the best title for the text?
A.My Way of Growing B.The Value of Failure
C.My Love for Mother D.Failure in My Life

Your house may have an effect on your figure. Experts say the way you design your home could play a role in whether you pack on the pounds or keep them off. You can make your environment work for you instead of against you. Here are some ways to turn your home into part of your diet plan.
Open the curtains and turn up the lights. Dark environments are more likely to encourage overeating, for people are often less self璫onscious when they抮e in poorly lit places梐nd so more likely to eat lots of food. If your home doesn抰 have enough window light, get more lights and flood the place with brightness.
Mind the colors. Research suggests warm colors fuel our appetites. In one study, people who ate meals in a blue room consumed 33 percent less than those in a yellow or red room. Warm colors like yellow make food appear more appetizing, while cold colors make us feel less hungry. So when it抯 time to repaint, go blue.
Don抰 forget the clock梠r the radio. People who eat slowly tend to consume about 70 fewer calories(卡路里) per meal than those who rush through their meals. Begin keeping track of the time, and try to make dinner last at least 30 minutes. And while you’re at it, actually sit down to eat. If you need some help slowing down, turn on relaxing music. It makes you less likely to rush through a meal.
Downsize the dishes. Big serving bowls and plates can easily make us fat. We eat about 22 percent more when using a 12?inch plate instead of a 10?inch plate. When we choose a large spoon over a smaller one, total intake (摄入) jumps by 14 percent. And we’ll pour about 30 percent more liquid into a short, wide glass than a tall, skinny glass.
28.The text is especially helpful for those who care about ____________.
A. their home comforts B. their body shape
C. house buying D. healthy diets
29.A home environment in blue can help people ______________.
A. digest food better B. reduce food intake.
C. burn more calories D. regain their appetites
30.What are people advised to do at mealtimes?
A. Eat quickly. B.Play fast music.
C. Use smaller spoons. D. Turn down the lights.
31.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Is Your House Making You Fat? B. Ways of Serving Dinner.
C. Ways of eating. D. Is Your Home Environment Relaxing?

D
Getting rid of dirt, in the opinion of most people, is a good thing. However, there is nothing fixed about attitudes to dirt.
In the early 16th century, people thought that dirt on the skin was a means to block out disease, as medical opinion had it that washing off dirt with hot water could open up the skin and let ills in. A particular danger was thought to lie in public baths. By 1538, the French king had closed the bath houses in his kingdom. So did the king of England in 1546. Thus began a long time when the rich and the poor in Europe lived with dirt in a friendly way. Henry IV, king of France, was famously dirty. Upon learning that a man had taken a bath, the king ordered that, to avoid the attack of disease, the man should not go out.
Though the belief in the merit(优点) of dirt was long-lived, dirt has no longer been regarded as a nice neighbor ever since the 18th century. Scientifically speaking, cleaning away dirt is good to health. Clean water supply and hand washing are practical means of preventing disease. Yet, it seems that standards of cleanliness have moved beyond science since World War II. Advertisements repeatedly sell the idea: clothes need to be whiter than white, cloths ever softer, surfaces to shine. Has the hate for dirt, however, gone too far?
Attitudes to dirt still differ hugely nowadays. Many first-time parents nervously try to warn their children off touching dirt, which might be responsible for the spread of disease. On the contrary, Mary Ruebush, an American immunologist(免疫学家), encourages children to play in the dirt to build up a strong immune system. And the latter position is gaining some ground.
32.The kings of France and England in the 16th century closed bath houses because _________ .
A. they lived healthily in a dirty environment.
B. they thought bath houses were too dirty to stay in.
C. they considered bathing as cause of skin disease.
D. They believed disease could be spread in public baths.
33.Which of the following best describes Henry IV抯 attitude to bathing?
A. Curious B. Afraid C . Approving D.Uninterested
34.How does the passage mainly develop?
A. By following the order of time. B. By making comparison.
C. By providing examples D. By following the order of importance.
35.What is the author’s purpose in writing the passages?
A. To call attention to the danger of dirt.
B. To introduce the history of dirt.
C. To show the change of views on dirt.
D. To stress the role of dirt.

Everyone wants to be nice to their own pets! Here are a few tips.

First of all,I quite understand how you feel now. I want to say failure is the mother of success. So never give up though you failed this time. The next is to build up confidence, for it is the deciding factor to ideal grade.
I am sure by doing this your test results will be improved next time and gradually your confidence will also come back. Hope everything goes well with you and looking forward to your reply.
根据TikTok中“With over 111.9 million downloads, TikTok has seen a huge growth in 2020, twice more than what it got in 2019. (2020年,TikTok的下载量超过1.119亿次,大幅增长,是2019年的两倍。)”可知,TikTok的下载量比2019年翻了一番。故选D项。
22.细节理解题。根据Zoom中“With nearly 94. 6 million installs, Zoom is the most used app for online meetings and virtual classrooms.可知,Zoom应用软件最适合在线教育。故选B项。
23.推理判断题。根据Facebook中“Facebook is the world’s most popular social networking application. Facebook builds technologies that give people the power to connect with friends and family, find communities and grow businesses. 故选A项。
根据第一段中“After waiting at school for an hour, I walked the three miles home, and when I got to my house, I shut our front door with anger, stormed into the kitchen and screamed in my mom’s face that she’d forgotten me.”
根据第三段中“My mom didn’t rescue me from failure. She let me suffer from it. She let me figure it out. She let me learn. Now, as a mom myself, I’ve realized that I want my kids to experience failure because failure is how we grow, learn and think outside of ourselves. (我妈妈没有把我从失败中拯救出来。她让我受苦。她让我自己想办法。她让我学习。现在,作为一个母亲,我意识到我想让我的孩子经历失败,因为失败是我们成长、学习和思考的方式。)”可知,作者认为她童年的经历是有意义的。故选B项。
26.词句猜测题。根据第二段中“But she held her ground, and that day, I walked to school. And I missed my tests. (但她_______________,那天,我步行去学校。我错过了考试。)”由那天作者自己步行去学校,可知,作者的妈妈坚持没有送作者去学校的立场,因此猜测划线短语held her ground意为“坚持她自己的看法/立场”。故选D项。
27.主旨大意题。根据第一段中“If our kids don’t fall, they don’t learn to get up. (如果我们的孩子没有摔倒,他们就无法学会爬起来。)”和第三段中“Now, as a mom myself, I’ve realized that I want my kids to experience failure because failure is how we grow, learn and think outside of ourselves. It’s how we self-educate to learn what’s right and respectable, and what’s not. It’s how we become responsible and enthusiastic. Falling down makes us better because we learn how to get up. 可知,作者通过自己童年的亲身经历讲述了让孩子经历失败具有重大的价值,因此本文的最佳标题选项B“失败的价值”符合题意。故选B项。
C篇阅读理解
【分析】
试题分析:想要减肥,除了少吃外,还和房间有关系。建议有4条:1.房间要明亮;2.用冷色系会减少食欲;3.放一些舒缓的音乐就餐;4. 用小的碗碟。
28.B 推理判断题。根据全文第一段Here are some ways to turn your home into part of your diet plan.
Here are some ways to turn your home into part of your diet plan.
36.根据上文“Clean their food and drink bowls at least once a day.?(每天至少一次清洗他们的食物和饮料碗。)”和下文“You wouldn’t eat off the same plate for one whole week or drink out of the same glass for a month! 可知此处内容与宠物在使用餐具方面和人一样有关,因此选项B“It’s the same with us. (和我们一样)”符合题意。故选B。
37.根据下文“Pets want as much of your attention as possible, dogs especially.?(宠物想要得到你尽可能多的关注,尤其是狗。)”
38.根据上文“Most dogs don’t like to be kept in a house all day long. (大多数狗不喜欢整天被关在屋里。)”可知此处与上文形成因果关系,内容与狗喜欢外出有关,下文“They can also meet other dogs this way. (它们也可以通过这种方式遇见其他的狗。)”可知,this way指的是选项E的内容,因此选项E“They like to get out and enjoy the flesh air. (他们喜欢出去享受新鲜空气。)”符合题意。故选E。
39.根据上文“Your pet may not like it. (你的宠物可能不喜欢。)”可知此处与下文形成转折关系,内容与带宠物去看兽医的好处有关,选项G中的连词But是转折,因此选项G“But it’s better to cause a little discomfort now than to find out later that it has a disease. (但现在先引起一点不适总比后来才发现它有病强。)”符合题意。故选G。
40.根据上文“If you had to take your dog to the hospital, he might be afraid of riding in cars. (如果你不得不带你的狗去医院,它可能害怕坐车。)”可知选项F中In that case指的就是上文这种情况,此处内容与可以坐很短的车程去一个令人愉快的地方改善狗害怕坐车的情况有关,故选F。
