Native American Indian Adventure
There are many different tribes that belong to the native American Indian group. On this trip you’ll visit a tribe in the centre of North America. They are known as the Plains Indians as they live in a flat area of land. The Plains Indians believe in the Great spirit who has power over all things including animals, trees, stones and clouds.
You will sleep in a special tent, called a teepee, wear clothes made from buffalo skin and a feather headdress. You will take part in the Sun Dance, which is a very important ceremony and you will also see natives smoking a peace pipe. There will be a bow and arrow competition, designed to retell how the Plains Indians used to hunt for food. Food will include buffalo that will be roasted over an open fire.

the feather headdress
The Plains Indians lived in the area from the
Mississippi River to the Rocky Mountains and
from Canada to Mexico.
The teepee opening always faces east.
The outside of the teepee is decorated
with paintings of animals, stars, or other objects.
They live in teepees
The Plains Indians believed in the Great Spirit. The Indians
believed the Great Spirit had power over all things including
animals, trees, stones, and clouds. The earth was believed
to be the mother of all spirits. The sun had great power also
because it gave the earth light and warmth.
The Sun Dance The Sun Dance was an important ceremony
among the Plains Indians. It lasted for several days.
Before the ceremony the Indians would fast. The camp
was set up in a circle of teepees. The men and women
danced, gazing at the sun, whistling through pipes.
