I love collecting old paving bricks(铺路砖). It's my favorite hobby. I started it last year when I needed to help our teacher to hold a fair display(露天展览)for our school. A few years earlier, I read a passage about paving bricks in a magazine. I found it was very interesting, so I decided to do the display on the bricks. However, we didn't have so many bricks for a good display. Then I decided to go out and look for them.
Now I have collected hundreds of bricks. Most of them are from Ohio(俄亥俄州). Actually, there are more than 1, 000 different kinds of bricks in Ohio. Sometimes, I bought some old but special bricks on the Internet. The price is from $ 5 to $ 10 for one brick.
Sometimes, people can't understand why I buy bricks. I must say that it's my favorite hobby.

American people like to say “Thank you” when others help them or say something kind to them. People of many countries do so, too. It is a very good habit.
You should say “Thank you” when someone passes you the salt on the table, when someone walking ahead of you keeps the door open for you, when someone says you have done your work well, or you have bought a nice thing, or your city is very beautiful. “Thank you” is used not only between friends, but also between parents and children, brothers and sisters.
“Excuse me” is another short sentence they use. When you hear someone say “Excuse me” behind you, you know that somebody wants to walk past you without touching you. If you want to ask someone to tell you the way, you should say “Excuse me”first. And it’s not polite to break others when they are talking. It is easier to go down a hill than up it, so it is easier to fall into bad habits than into good ones.
Bad habits do not come suddenly. They come quietly and slowly, they come little by little while people do not notice their danger. Some schoolboys first pick up bad habits in schools and on the streets. When they cannot finish their lessons, they copy from their classmates. Then they don’t do homework by themselves. Then they fail in the exams. And they lose their interests in their studies. If they see other boys smoking, they also want to learn to smoke. When they get older, the habits become so strong that they can never get rid of them. And smoking is harmful to their health.
How necessary it is that we get rid of a bad habit at the very beginning!
