My grandfather Andy Anderson is 99.His life story is one for the big screen — he met my grandmother on a Saturday, and they married on the following Saturday. They stayed together until my grandma died 67 years later.
Without going to college, Andy worked his way to the top.He became the manager of the dairy department of Safeway. He earned the nickname Mr Cheese, which eventually turned into Grandpa Cheese among the family. He has taught me a lot and here's what he has learned in his 99 years.
Always maintain a good sense of humor.Find something humorous in every single situation.Never be too good to start at the bottom.Exercise every day, even when you don't feel like it.Don't spend more money than you make.Save your money now and spend it later.
You must be able to forgive, even if it's difficult to do.Love is not always easy; sometimes you have to work at it.Your family is the most precious thing you will ever have in life.
If you're faced with a problem, don't delay trying to figure it out.But if there's no way to figure it out, you have to forget about it.Make sure you're doing what you love; don't be afraid to follow those dreams you have for yourself.
School education is important, but not necessary.Life can be an education in itself.Explore your world and stay curious.Having a bad job is better than having no job at all.Try not to take yourself so seriously.Don't ever be afraid to be your true self.Your life is delicate, and if you fail to take care of yourself properly, you'll spoil.
Life is a gift that you must unwrap (打开).It's up to you to determine if what's inside will lead you to happiness or dismay (沮丧).You have the power to make that decision for yourself.
All of above come from Grandpa Cheese. If you're wondering what Grandpa Cheese is up to these days, he's riding his motorized scooter (踏板车) around Benicia, CA, and “planning on what I'm going to do when I start to get old,” he says.

Researchers have created a backpack that has a computer and medicines in it that can help even untrained soldiers save the lives of wounded troops.Wounded soldiers have a better chance of survival if they get help soon after being hurt and are quickly taken to a hospital or clinic. But soldiers who do not have medical training may not know how to help their injured friends.
Doctors and engineers have developed what they call an 搃ntelligent backpack. It has a computer and electronic measuring devices. The backpack also has robotic instruments and medicines ready to be given to the injured troops.

Ron Poropatich leads the project. He is a retired army surgeon. He says the backpack will help soldiers care for those who are injured. The devices included in the backpack can monitor a person's heart rate and blood pressure. The robotic instruments can even tell whether the soldier has a collapsed lung.
The intelligent backpack's computer can compare information gathered about the injured soldier with thousands of similar cases, and quickly tell the best methods to save the soldier's life.
Sometimes, it is not always possible to quickly remove the injured soldier from the battlefield. So, Dr Poropatich says, the researchers hope to create a backpack that will have devices that can keep a soldier alive for a long time.DrPoropatich hopes the backpack and its instruments will be ready for testing on animals in about three years.

Feel tired and want to have a break? People have many different ways to relax during break time at work or school.Smartphones are probably the number one choice for a quick mental vacation.
Although it might seem like a good time, looking at your cell phone may damage your mental power, according to a recent psychological study from RutgersUniversity in the United States.
For the study, more than 400 students were asked to finish a set of 20 word puzzles.Halfway through the task, the students were divided into three groups. One group was allowed to take a break and use cell phones to buy things online. The second group was asked to have a rest and buy things using a computer. The last group didn't take any break at all.
Interestingly, the group that used their cell phones during the break went back to work feeling the most tired and least motivated to continue. They also had the hardest time solving the remaining word puzzles.
The cell phone group took 19 percent longer to finish the rest of the task, and solved 22 percent fewer problems than those in the other break conditions combined.
Terri Kurtzberg, coauthor of the study, explained that they assumed looking at cell phones during a break would be no different from any other break but instead, the phone may cause increasing levels of distraction that make it difficult to return focused attention to work tasks.
揅ell phones may have this effect because even just seeing your phone activates thoughts of checking messages, connecting with people, access to everrefilling information and more, in ways that are different than how we use other screens like computers, and laptops,”Kurtzberg told ScienceDaily.
This is echoed (呼应) by a 2017 study from the US University of Chicago. It found that even if cell phones are turned off or turned face down, their mere presence reduces a person's cognitive capacity (认知能力).
So, during your next break, try putting your smartphone away.Go out for a walk, get to know your classmates or even take a nap (小憩).You may be surprised by the result.
32. What did the study find about using cellphones during breaks?
A.It could make people more motivated at work.
B.It could reduce one's ability to solve problems.
C.It could be beneficial both physically and mentally.
D.It could affect one's relationships with others.
33.What does the underlined word “activate” probably mean in Paragraph 7?
A.motivate B.associate C.appreciate D.imitate
34.What can we learn about cell phones from Kurtzberg's words?
A.They may influence people in the same way as computers do.
B.They may make it hard for people to concentrate on work.
C.Their negative influence is almost impossible to avoid.
D.They have become a necessary part of people's lives.
35.What does the author suggest people do during break time?
A.Turn off their cell phones. B.Keep their cell phones face down.
C.Replace cell phones with laptops. D.Keep their cell phones out of sight.
