B
As
a
teenager
in
the
1990s,
Melissa
Blake
was
interested
in
fashion.
Unfortunately,
fashion
wasn't
much
interested
in
her.
Blake,
who
has
a
bone
and
muscle
disorder
and
stands
a
little
under
four
feet
tall,
couldn't
find
jeans
or
dresses
in
her
size.
Looking
through
some
fashion
magazines,
she
didn't
see
a
single
person
who
looked
like
her.
“That
would
have
been
a
game
changer
for
me,"
says
Blake,
who
had
26
surgeries
before
age
17.
“When
you're
a
teenager
-
disabled
or
not
-
you
deal
with
issues
of
self-esteem
(自尊)
Blake,
39,
has
spent
her
adult
life
trying
to
make
up
for
that.
She
is
a
disability-rights
activist
as
well
as
a
writer,
but
she
gained
a
national
following
after
fighting
back
ugly
comments
about
her
online.
She
answered,
"people
said
I
should
be
stopped
from
posting
photos
of
myself
because
I'm
too
ugly.
So
I'd
just
like
to
share
these
three
selfies
(自拍照)
Her
fans
went
wild,
calling
Blake
a
powerful
woman.
“I
feel
like
every
time
I
post
a
selfie
or
share
something
about
my
life
as
a
disabled
woman,
that
is
to
fight
back,"
Blake
said.
Among
her
fans
is
Mindy
Scheier,
CEO
of
Runway
of
Dreams.
Last
fall,
Scheier
asked
Blake
to
be
one
of
the
event's
24
models.
“Being
able
to
put
Melissa
in
the
fashion
event
of
the
year
just
shows
how
important
it
is
to
expand
the
consumers
in
the
fashion
industry,
or
what
we're
really
representing,"
Scheier
says.
“It
was
a
little
scary,"
Blake
says
of
modeling.
But
she's
glad
she
took
the
challenge.
“When
disabled
people
are
included,
it
sends
a
message
that
we
deserve
a
seat
at
the
table
in
all
aspects
of
life."

surgeries
before

respond
to
ugly
online
comments?

turning
to
Scheier
for
help.

By
participating
in
some
shows.
C.
By
arguing
in
fashion
magazines.
D.
By
posting
selfies
or
sharing
her
life.
26.
Why
did
Scheier
ask
Blake
to
be
one
of
the
event's
models?
A.
Because
Scheier
appreciated
her
talents
in
modeling.
B.
Because
Scheier
took
pity
on
her
unfortunate
experiences.
C.
Because
the
disabled
should
have
a
place
in
the
fashion
industry.
D.
Because
the
disabled
should
have
rights
to
express
themselves
online.
27.

is
the
author's
main
purpose
of
writing
the
passage?
A.
To
promote
a
fashion
show.

To
introduce
a

inequality.

online
comments.
C
If
you
want
to
lose
weight,
you
should
choose
your
lunch
companions
wisely.
A
study
found
that
co-workers
who
ate
together
tended
to
pick
similarly
healthy
foods.
The
researchers
said
their
findings
offered
policymakers
new
strategies
against
fatness.
"We
found
individuals
tend
to
mirror
the
food
choices
of
others
in
their
social
circles,
said
Dr.
Levy,
lead
author
of
the
research.
"People
may
change
their
behaviour
to
strengthen
the
relationship
in
their
social
circle."
Co-workers
may
give
each
other
permission
to
pick
unhealthy
foods,
the
researchers
said,
or
place
pressure
to
make
a
healthier
choice.
Levy
added,
"The
effect
was
a
bit
stronger
for
healthy
foods."
Employees
at
a
hospital
could
pay
using
ID
cards,
allowing
the
researchers
to
collect
data
on
what,
when
and
where
to
buy.
They
worked
out
social
relationships
by
looking
at
how
long
apart
two
people
bought
food,
how
often
they
ate
and
whether
they
visited
a
different
cafe
at
the
same
time.
They
surveyed
over
1,000
employees
to
ask
them
about
the
names
of
dining
partners.
"Considering
other
shared
characteristics,
co-workers
were
influencing
each
other's
habits,
rather
than
friendships
formed
between
people
with
similar
lifestyles,"
Levy
said.
The
researchers
said
their
findings
could
be
widely
used
for
public
health
interventions
(干
预).It
showed
that
interventions
to
improve
healthy
eating
in
a
particular
group
may
have
a
wider
impact
in
individuals
with
social
connections
to
that
group.
Levy
said,
“To
work
out
whether
people
with
similar
lifestyles
and
food
preferences
were
more
likely
to
become
friends
and
eat
together,
we
controlled
common
characteristics
and
analyzed
the
data
from
different
angles,
consistently
finding
the
results
were
the
same."

Japan's
government
is
facing
criticism
(批评)for
pressing
its
plans
to
hold
the
Tokyo
Olympics
even
as
the
country
deals
with
COVID-19.
More
than
300,000
people
have
signed
a
petition
(请愿书)calling
for
not
holding
the
Games,
which
are
set
to
open
on
July
23.
An
advertisement
said
people
were
in
danger
of
being
“killed
by
politics”.
Prime
Minister
Yoshihide
Suga
has
repeatedly
stated
that
the
government
is
continuing
with
plans,
promising
the
games
will
happen
safely.
Some
Japanese
lawmakers
have
questioned
those
statements
as
some
hospitals
still
struggle
to
find
beds
for
those
sick
with
COVID-19.
Last
month,
Suga
declared
a
third
state
of
emergency
in
Osaka,
as
well
as
in
Tokyo
and
two
other
areas.
That
lasted
through
May
31,
2020.
On
Wednesday,
two
more
areas
were
placed
under
emergency
measures.
It
is
estimated
that
only
1
percent
of
the
public
has
so
far
been
fully
vaccinated
although
millions
of
vaccines
(疫苗)sit
unused
in
very
low
temperature
storage.
Suga
and
his
government
have
faced
criticism
for
being
too
slow
and
soft
on
virus
measures.
Japan
has
been
able
to
keep
its
number
of
virus
cases
and
deaths
below
those
in
the
U.S.
and
Europe
without
restrictive
measures.
But
the
results
are
worse
than
in
some
other
parts
of
Asia.
Japan
has
also
fallen
far
behind
in
vaccinations.
Though
officials
blame
a
lack
of
supplies
from
Europe,
progress
has
been
slowed
because
of
staff
shortages.
About
7.6
million
vaccines
remain
unused
in
freezers.
The
president
of
the
Tokyo
Olympic
organizing
committee,
Seiko
Hashimoto,
said
that
Japanese
athletes
were
likely
to
get
vaccines
before
the
games
began.
"In
Japan,
the
vaccination
of
the
citizens
isn't
going
very
well,"
she
said,
adding
that
the
public
saw
giving
the
athletes
vaccinations
as
a
special
treatment,
so
this
gives
rise
to
dissatisfaction
among
the
citizens
toward
the
games.
32.
What
does
the
underlined
part
in
Paragraph
1
mean?
A.
The
government
is
to
kill
the
people
who
caught
the
virus.
B.
People
are
in
danger
for
not
supporting
the
Tokyo
Olympics.
C.
People
are
angry
that
the
government
only
cared
about
politics.
D.
The
government
doesn't
provide
enough
vaccines
for
the
public.
33.
What
does
Paragraph
3
mainly
talk
about?
A.
The
vaccines
are
in
short
supply.
B.
The
situation
of
COVID-19
is
still
serious.
C.
The
citizens
are
unwilling
to
get
vaccinated.
D.
Enough
measures
are
taken
against
COVID-19.
34.
What
can
we
infer
from
the
passage?
A.
Lawmakers
are
in
favor
of
Suga's
statements.
B.
Japanese
measures
are
the
most
effective
in
Asia.
C.
Japanese
athletes
are
likely
to
get
vaccines
soon.
D.
Lack
of
vaccines
isn't
to
blame
for
slow
vaccinations.
35.

the
citizens'
attitude
towards
the
Tokyo
Olympics
to
be
held
as
planned?

多余选项。
We're
told
that
an
ordinary
life
is
a
boring
life.
To
live
life
fully,
we
need
to
do
something
different,
something
special.
36
If
we
all
did
something
extraordinary,
it
wouldn't
be
extraordinary
any
more.
Therefore,
most
of
us
have
to
live
ordinary
lives.
Why
should
we
stop
trying
to
be
extraordinary?
●
Ordinary
doesn't
have
to
be
boring
Even
the
daily
routine
(常规)doesn’t
have
to
be
boring.
Sometimes
the
ordinary
things
can
make
us
happy.
Finding
meaningful
work
or
improving
our
skills
can
create
a
deeply
full
life,
even
if
it
isn't
"special”.37
.
●
An
extraordinary
life
doesn't
stay
extraordinary
for
long
If
we
try
to
have
an
extraordinary
life,
how
do
we
keep
it
extraordinary?
38
And
it
works
against
us
when
we
seek
something
new.
Even
the
most
exciting
adventures
soon
become
the
new
normal.
●
39
.
Many
of
us
feel
that
a
meaningful
life
has
to
be
an
extraordinary
life.
However,
meaning
and
ordinary
are
not
quite
opposite
to
each
other.
We
need
to
feel
that
we
are
making
a
difference,
but
that
difference
doesn't
matter.
●
We
don't
need
to
be
the
best
Closely
linked
to
our
desire
to
be
special
is
our
desire
to
be
the
best.
We
feel
that
we
won't
be
noticed
or
appreciated
unless
we
are
better
than
everyone
else.
40
The
truth
is
that
we
don't
need
to
be
the
best
anything.
We
just
need
to
always
be
getting
better.
A.
We
don't
need
to
be
special
to
find
meaning.
B.
A
meaningful
life
can't
be
easily
found
in

At

Holly

huge
car.
It

It

And
it

pollution.
“You

it,

Holly
said.
"It's

“Actually,
I'm

“That's

“At
the

Holly

the
sentence.
Her
face

anger.
Holly's

It's

Holly
was
so
upset.
She

this

What
could
she
do?
They
were
going

her

She
walked
out
into
the
garden.
The
sun

the

tree
was

and

against

She
climbed
up
the

ladder
and
disappeared
among
the
leaves
and
branches.
Now
she
was
inside
her
old

house.
It
was
her
favourite
place

the
world,
her
secret
place.
There
were
holes
in
its
roof
and
there
were
old
birds'
nests
in
the
comers.
But
there
was
a
little
chair,
some
broken
toys
and
some
blankets.
She
sat
down
and
looked
out
at
the
garden
and
the
sky.
She
could
see
the

She
could

She

Holly

when
her

“You

Wouldn’t
a
glass

under
the

look
cool?”
Pointing
to
her
drawing
of
the
intended
glass
office,
Holly
highlights
the
splendid
view
of
nature
as
well
as
perfect
shades
of
the
tree.
“Sounds
great.
I’ll
think
about
it
carefully.”
Her
father
patted
her
on
the
head.
Hearing
his
promise,
Holly
smiled
and
gave
him
a
big
hug.

Can
you

me
about
your
early

M:
My
first
serious
acting
job
was
when
I
was
20.
Before
that
I
had
been
in
some
musical
comedies
--
singing

things

that

but

I

M:
Of

I’ve

haven’t
I?
You
don’t

much

Shakespeare.
Yes,
I
do
serious
things
in
the
theatre
in
the
evenings
and
I
do
films
during
the
day
to
make
some
money.
W:
And
do
you
still
sing
and
dance?
M:
Only
in
my
own
home!
I
haven’t
sung
in
the
theatre
for
about
50
years.
W:
Do
you
have
any
plans
to
stop
working?
M:
No,
I
don’t.
I
want
to
keep
working
for
as
long
as
possible
--
I
love
it
and
it
keeps
me

If
I

and
watched

Hello,
everyone.
Today
my
speech
is
aimed
at
people
who
are
interested
in
science.
The
rise
of
modern
science
may
be
considered
to
date
as
far
back
as
the
time
of
Roger
Bacon
who
lived
between
the
years
1214
and
1292.
He
was
probably
the
first
in
the
middle
ages
to
believe
that
we
must
learn
science
by
experimenting
on
the
things
around
us.
Galileo,
however,
who
lived
more
than
300
years
later,
was
the
greatest
of
several
great
men.
In
Italy,
France,
Germany,
or
England,
they
began
to
show
how
many
important
truths
could
be
discovered
by
experiment.
Before
the
time
of
Galileo,
learned
men
believed
that
large
bodies
fall
more
rapidly
towards
the
earth
than
small
ones,
because
Aristotle
said
so.
But
Galileo,
going
to
the
top
of
the
Leaning
Tower
of
Pisa
in
Italy,
let
fall
two
unequal
stones
and
proved
Aristotle
was
wrong.
It
is
Galileo’s
spirit
of
going
direct
to
Nature,
and
proving
our
opinions
and
theories
by
experiment,
that
has
led
to
all
the
great
discoveries
of
modern
science.
