七、Teaching procedure：
Step 1. Lead in
Ask ： In 2008, China hosted the 29th Olympic Games. What do you know about the 29th Olympics ?
Step 2. Presentation
1. Show some pictures about Modern Olympics. Let the students watch the pictures and learn some words and phrases about Olympics. Ask questions about the pictures and help the students answer.
2. Teach the new words and help the students talk about the pictures with the new words. Make sure the Ss can read it correctly.
Step 3. Reading
1. Read the text and think about main ideas of each paragraph, then match each paragraph with its main idea.
2. Students read the text again. Discuss: In the modern Olympics, what things stay the same and what things have changed. Look at the items below. Read the lesson and write S for 搒ame or 擠 for 揹ifferent.
Step 4. Reading in ditails
Read the passage and answer the following questions:
1. What抯 the Olympic motto ?
2. Is the Olympic slogan created by the host city?
3. What does the Olympic symbol mean?
4. What does the torch mean?
5. What has always been the same?
At last, the teacher explains the text in English, make sure the Ss can understand the meaning of text.

Divide the class into groups. Give each group a piece of paper, Let each group design a poster to introduce the Modern Olympics on the paper, including the following points:

Get the students to finish the exercises in class and check the answers.
