一、教材分析
1. 单元及课文分析
本单元主要是围绕奥运会和世界纪录来展开话题,通过本单元的学习,使学生了解有关奥运会的发展历史和世界纪录的相关情况,乐于接触并了解异国文化。在学习过程中,应该让学生能够对自己感兴趣的人物或事件,勇敢地用英语表达自己的看法,感受奥运健儿和世界纪录的创造者那种努力拼搏、不断超越自己的精神。
Lesson 36 Jenny描述了自己班里的各种运动赛事,尤其是Danny设计的 “Jump over the Dinosaur”可以说是妙趣横生,让人忍俊不禁。通过学习本课内容,学生们将会设计自己的运动项目并举行课堂运动会,培养其竞争意识、合作精神。
2.教学目标
语言技能:掌握描述运动项目的相关词汇和语句,并自己设计运动项目,开展课堂运动会。
掌握词汇:rope, race, result, none, twentieth 接触词汇:sit-ups, push-ups
情感态度: 通过设计运动项目和开展课堂运动会,培养学生的竞争意识和合作精神。
3.教学重点:掌握描述运动项目的相关词汇和语句。
教学难点:根据所学知识,准确恰当地用英语描述一项体育运动。
4.学习策略:鼓励学生通过观察、模仿、体验、探究、展示等方式学习与合作学习。

三、教学步骤:
Step 1 Class Opening (About 5 minutes)
1) Doing sports can make us strong and healthy. Let’s learn some new sports today.
Show some pictures about sports---jump rope, sit-ups, push-ups and race.
Explain the new words in this lesson if necessary.

2) Discuss the Think About It questions as a class. ?
Do you want to be strong and healthy?
? What event can we have if we hold a classroom Olympics?
3) Divide the class into groups to discuss the second Think About It question and come up with a list of events they could do in the classroom. Then have the students share their lists with the class.

T: Good job! Now before we start our classroom Olympics, let’s look at these pictures about Danny. Can you guess what he is doing?

Step 2 Listen (About 6 minutes)
1) Ask the students to listen to the passage carefully and choose the best answer.

2)Listen to the passage again and write true (T) or false (F).

Step 3 Read (About 15 minutes)
1)Read Lesson 36 silently and try to find out the answers to the exercises.
1. How many events did Jenny’s classmates invent for the classroom Olympics? ( )

3. What things did they need to prepare for Danny’s event?
4. Who was the second of the race ? 5. How did Brian feel? Why?
2) After reading the passage, instruct the students to answer the questions with a partner.
3) Discuss the answers as a class.

Step 4. Practice(About 3 minutes)
Ask the students to fill in the blanks with the useful expresions in this lesson.

Step 5 Task (About 15 minutes) T:
We’ve known a lot about Jenny’s classroom Olympics. Now we will
design ours.
1) Divide the class into groups. Assign each group one event from the final class list of events you made at the start of class.
2) Each group designs the event assigned to them by describing the object of the event, making a list of rules and a list of materials that will be needed for that event. They should also include a diagram of the event. ( i.e. What will the event look like?)
3) Ask each group to present and demonstrate their event to the class if there’s enough time.

Step 5 Homework.
Write a composition about your event.
