A brave young man!
Zhang Hua is 25 years old. He helped his neighbour
out of fire.
On 10th May, Zhang Hua was at home alone.
Suddenly, he heard someone shouting ‘Fire! Fire!’ He ran
outside. He saw a lot of smoke from next door. He went
in and saw his neighbour, the 79-year-old Mrs Sun, in the
kitchen. She could not get out because she hurt her leg.
Anything could happen to her at that moment.
Zhang Hua quickly ran back to his flat and poured
water over his jacket. Then he rushed into Mrs Sun’s
kitchen to save her. There was a lot of smoke and the fire
was very hot. He was not afraid. He put out the
fire with a blanket and helped Mrs Sun out.
The fire burnt Zhang Hua’s neck, arms and
face. He was in hospital for two months. Many
people visited him and brought him flowers and
presents. ‘What a brave young man!’ they
said.
Zhang Hua was glad that he helped Mrs
Sun. ‘We should help each other,’ he said.
Zhang Hua also said, ‘Fire can be very
dangerous. It is important to be careful with
fire.’
Zhang Hua helped his grandma out of a
fire.

Pre-task preparation:
1. Review an English poem: Water
2. A dialogue about the knowledge of water given by the students on duty.

Ask students to name as much ways of using water as they can.
Have a group competition.
4. Ask the students to think about the following question, “What will
happen if there is no water ” Show a set of pictures of water shortage and
ask them to identify them. Encourage them to say more .

Main task
1 To describe different materials and items of clothing.

Background information
Students will have opportunities to describe clothes and accessories. This section focuses on a fashion brochure for girls, which makes it necessary to bring in magazine pictures of boys’ fashions for mixed classes.
Bring in authentic brochures to show students the style of this kind of writing. Talk to students about the purpose of writing a brochure. Elicit from students as much information as possible :

3 How do you make your brochure look interesting to the reader
Teaching procedures
1 Before doing the task, ask students who the audience is and emphasize the context in the Student’s Book of creating a ‘Fashion Wall’.
2 Enable students to describe themselves or their classmates by using the keywords above.
3 Ask students to read the model article on page 102. And tell them to use the model article and complete the sentences with word from Part A on page 101.
4 Check the answers and encourage students to express their opinions about the model article.
5 Tell students to choose one fashion item and make them aware of what kind of things . Their readers might like to read about . And tell students to create their own words to write a rough draft using the given model.
6 Let students read, check and correct their partner’s drafts in pairs and give them suggestions about the improvements in the use of words, spelling and structures and provide help while monitoring .
7 Make students rewrite their articles on a separate sheet of paper and add illustrations, particularly pictures of popular fashion items. Ask them to stick their work on the noticeboard and encourage them to read each other’s poster.
Sample writing
First, I designed a cotton T-shirt. It is bright red and has a V-neck. It goes well with a pair of jeans. The jeans have wide legs. There are lots of big pockets at the front and back. I also designed a cotton shirt with long sleeves and buttons in the front.
Then I designed a pair of trainers to go with the jeans and T-shirt. They are very comfortable and made of white leather. They do not have laces, so they are easy to put on. The jacket I designed is blue with white sleeves.

V. Text-learning
Then let’s come to our text. First, listen to the text, don’t look at your
books. Then try to answer some questions about the text . So listen
carefully.

VI. Consolidation
From the text , we know Kitty and Ben love Sam very much. They take good
care of him. They are so kind to animals. But nowadays, a lot of people
are cruel to animals. A large number of animals are killed by people. Even
some rare animals have disappeared from the earth. It is a sad story. So
we must protect animals and protect environment .

VII. Summary and assignment
In this class, we learn Sam’s story and we know animals are our good

Comments after class
English is a useful language. It’s a useful tool. We would like our
students to use this language flexibly rather than only remembering some phrases.
According to this aim,in this lesson, my design is firstly moving from old
knowledge to new knowledge,from previous lesson to the next one.
My topic is “Our animal friends”, and children like animals. So at the
beginning of the lesson, I invite students to introduce their favourite
animals. They could take their pets to the class and they showed great
interest. Next I transferred to the sentence pattern:
“ Which one do you like ”
“ I prefer….”
By asking “ Which animals do you like ”
I let students use all kinds of things they have learned to practise this
sentence pattern.
Then I came to the text-learning. I taught them new words by showing them
pictures. After that, I asked students to listen and understand the
general meaning of the text, read and imitate the pronunciation and
intonation of the tape of the text .
At last, I have the students imagine different kinds of stories, concerned
the situation nowadays that a lot of rare animals have been destroyed by
some unkind people. Let the students know we should protect animals and
natural environment .
All above is my outline of the whole class. I think students can learn
something not only inside class but also outside class. Maybe I should
continue to improve the situational teaching method .

A Simple past tense
Task-based Teaching Aims:
1. Cognitive Development
Make sure students can recognize the tense freely.
2. Proficiency Level
To develop their integrated skills through listening, reading, speaking and writing. They can use the tense to make up sentences and dialogues freely after learning. They can also recognize and use adverbs to order events.

Step 4 Teach them how to use the simple past tense to make positive and negative sentences, ask and answer questions. Have them complete the conversation. Check answers and clarify any misunderstandings.

B Sequencing events
Step 1 To recognize and use adverbs to order events. Tell them to pay attention to the simple past tense. We use these adverbs to show the order in which things happen. We put the adverbs at the beginning of a sentence as they connect the sentences. We often use them to clarify a process or a particular sequence of events.

Step 2 Ask students to do a presentation about their own day using the adverbs they have learned. Encourage them to include more information. Help them choose a title. Remind them to use the simple past tense.
B1 Briefly review the adverbs, using the picturesfor support.
Ask students to write the letters in the boxes in Ppart B1 individually. Students check each other’s sequence of sentences. Monitor the class as you walk around.
B2 Set the context by reminding students about the fashion show described earlier in the unit before asking students to do B2. Link Simon’s experience to any other events your students may have been involved in. introduce the idea of woriting a picture story as a narrative using adverbs and the simple past tense to order events.

Memory
If you do not use your arms or your legs for some time, they will become weak, when you start using them again, they slowly become strong again. Everybody knows that. Yet many people do not seem to know that memory(记忆)works in the same way. When someone says that he has a good memory, he really means that he keeps his memory in practice by using it.
